I am incredibly grateful to Game of Thrones for this adventure I have found myself sucked into for some years now. I am grateful for all the emotions it brought me since day one, bitter and sweet alike. I am grateful for all the laughs, all the tears, all the jokes and gags, every single bit of it, I really am grateful and appreciative of it all. It's been just... wonderful.
That said, I am feeling robbed and betrayed right about now. This ending is arguably one of the worst series finales in the history of television and trust me I realize how bold of a statement that is. The terrible violations the characters have suffered this season, the lack of proper resolution to many of the plots and narratives developed over seasons worth of buildup, the seeking of shock value at the expense of quality writing... that and much much more solidified this as an absolute disappointment of a finale, as opposed to the marvel wrap it could've given this cultural phenomenon.
This episode does have its positives, as always the score, acting and cinematography are perfectly performed but I just do not think it's nearly enough to compensate for how lackluster the writing has been, as much as I wish they did. Oh well, sad as it may be, I'll just hold on to the good stuff and hope that GRRM's book, once finished, will tackle the ending in a more coherent, more respectful and more meaningful way. It's been real y'all...
P.S: I'll leave this here lest some people jump me again. This comment is a representation of my own personal opinion, I am entitled to one just as all of you are. If you enjoyed this season and felt this finale delivered what you were looking for then more power to you mate, but that doesn't nullify my opinion nor does it make yours any valid. If you want to discuss or challenge my views, I'd be more than happy to engage you on that basis but if all you have to offer are petty remarks then please keep them to yourself.
Bran: I can never be Lord of Winterfell, I can never be Lord of anything, I'm the Three-eyed Raven.
Also Bran: I'm the King.
Thank goodness for McWidow. And common ground. And empathy. And for Bailey getting her head out of her ass and doing the wrong thing for the right reasons. I like her again. Those are the only bright spots right now.
The thing with Amelia and the baby is spinning out of control. It went from a drama triangle to a square to a pentagon (?) in a second flat. What the heck are the writers even doing at this point? This is gonna end badly any way they spin it. I can already see the crappy, half baked, half-hearted resolution coming and I'm preemptively cringing.
And the whole Alex thing epically sucks. Why did Justin have to quit out of the blue? Why couldn't he stay a few more episodes so that they could give Alex a proper send off after all these years. Having to destroy a well liked character, who's been there from the start just because of the actors' whims is heartbreaking. What an a-hole.
That junkie bitch Trish, god I hate her so much in this season. Annoying little rat. I hope to god she doesn’t get super powers cuz then we won’t hear the end of her self righteous shit.
I've kept watching in anticipation for comic plot-lines, but this latest death ruins all hopes I have that this show will live up to what it once was. Fuck Scott Gimple. Fuck AMC. I'm out.
And I thought this show couldn't get any worse before this episode. This one is the straw...
You know all those great shows where you don't know a characters' true intentions because the writers have woven a complex web of motivations and character traits. Well this show has that, but without any discernible reason due to character or motivation.
You know all those great shows where favorite characters are put in precarious situations and the intensity comes from wondering how they'll escape, well this show has that except it happens off screen and in this case totally stupid stuff happens off-screen (again), because it is patently unjustifiable in the context of the story, an experienced ZA survivor gets bitten in the stomach of all places, and is now doomed.
You know all those great shows where you're rooting for the villain to get his comeuppance but he always just escapes because of ingenuity, smarts or just that bit of luck, well this show has that except the villain escapes because the heroes are dumbasses. Freakin' Negan escapes death again, when all Rick has to do is hit him hard with the bat, instead of that love-tap, or just jump up and shoot him through the window instead of running away.
You know all those great shows where the action is intense and yet still easy to follow because of amazing direction, well this show has that, except the exact opposite (hard to follow and no intensity because of convoluted story-telling).
You know all those great shows...yeah, I'm just going to watch those...instead.
I'm done with you TWD.
Side plots of characters I'm so not interested in...Also Teddy is bi? I just don't see it.
After treating Karev like crap, now it’s the turn of DeLuca who’s getting completely destroyed. I can’t believe that Schmitt became the only somewhat interesting character in this show - despite the fact that all his “gay” storylines are stereotypical.
Can Grey’s Anatomy hires writers who do not despise male characters?
Chaotic bisexual "twins" from different universes is exactly the kind of time shenanigans I never knew I needed in my life.
What a mess of an episode. It was all over the place.
Hee Kyung stealing the show with only three scenes!
Buck definitely needed that closure and in some way Abby did too. That train wreck though was pretty gruesome, but at least none of the main characters died or anything.
I wonder what May talked with Maddie in the party, it seemed very important and Athena must have no idea. Maybe May is asking Maddie to talk to Athena about the assault and how to handle it as Maddie has gone through with something similar in the past.
So happy for soon to be parents, Maddie and Chimney!!
Can't wait for season 4, although this ending had some loose ends it definitely seemed like a series finale than a season finale.
Oh well, all is well that ends well.
Apparently, not knowing that a particular condition is more likely for some races than for others is racist.
I appreciate that the show wants to dramatize racial issues and how they come up in medicine. Racial biases and unconscious bias in particular are very serious issues each one of us needs to grapple with.
But this was forced, and logically, beyond even a stretch. It's so ridiculous that I think it undermines the goal: the people who most urgently need to be reached, as well as those on the fence and those still forming their views, will throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Not knowing things is a part of life. There is no such thing as omniscience. If, instead of being met with kindness and compassion, someone is condemned as a racist, I can easily imagine an internal monologue along the lines of Why bother? What's the point? There's no winning., and that is definitely not what we (or at least the show's writers) want.
Doctors miss things all the time. It's understandable. They're not omniscient. They're not infallible. If the reason a doctor missed something were based on racism or unconscious bias, that would be one thing. But merely not knowing a particular medical fact about how a particular medical condition is more or less likely an explanation for a particular symptom for a particular racial group? Calling that racism or attributing it to racism undermines the cause of fighting against actual racism.
Of course he was right. Of course.
If you didn't see that coming from 10 miles away, you're not paying close enough attention. It was very clear from the very beginning the "crazy" guy was actually gonna turn out to be right about the human trafficking thing. So, so predictable. And predictable is boring. You need to try harder, writers.
