John is good man. Like, the best part of this great movie is just watching him act so well. Don't worry, I won't give anything away. All I want to say is to go watch this one for sure. The tension is so high and stays with you the whole time. I saw it in IMAX, and they cranked the volume up to the point of me becoming deaf, but I think it was worth it.
Oh, and one of the first shots of this film happened to be of a bottle of scotch. That would bump it up half a star for me if it was needed. 5.5 out of 5 then?
Messed me up in the best ways. Unreal film, needs to be watched with zero spoilers to have full impact.
I have never been swept up by a movie before. While learning how they lived and Jack's perception of the world, I was enthralled. I was scared during get both the build up to, and the actual escape. The tears started flowing when Jack first saw the world and there was very little time after that where I wasn't crying.
I fell in love with both the characters and the portrayal of their story. Score: 9.5/10. Loses half a star for not showing more of the amazing female police officer who helped him when found.
The plot of this remarkable film suggests it has been ripped from recent headlines, detailing a young woman's captivity in a shed. This all suggests a deeply unpleasant experience, but the filmmakers make a crucial choice to tell the story from the point of view of the woman's 5 year old son who knows no other world other than the room they are held in. Essentially a two-hander for much of the film between mother and son, it is deeply moving and uplifting despite the nature of the plot, as film portrays their daily existence, the young boy's attempts to make sense of the world around him and his mother's efforts to protect him. Both actors give remarkable performances, with Larson fully deserving the critical praise being thrown her way, yet the film is equally dependent on a wonderfully natural performance from the young Jacob Tremblay. Never exploitative, the film can be quite unsettling and tense at times, but as the story gives way to the aftermath, the focus on the bond between parent and child throughout make for a film that is powerfully affecting.
Let me just start off by saying that Brie Larson was amazing and should/will win best actress. Jacob Tremblay did a fantastic job, but I found his character very annoying. I understand that this is part of his character given his trauma, but I had a hard time empathizing with him when he pissed me off half the movie. I get that this probably isn't a valid criticism but I don't know how else to put it. The story is fantastic and incredibly moving, and once again Brie Larson is amazing. I feel the first act is more moving, but the second act is more important as it's themes apply to everyone.
this is one of those movies that makes you forget that you are actually watching the movie and not part of the events taking place. from the continuous shot to the real time action you will only realize it was 2:15 hours when it's over.

The film is just perfect! Never a dull moment. But there is a clear division into two main themes. In the first part, we have the comedy we expect for and we laugh tons. In the second part, it becomes more sober and dramatic, but that's what make the film so special.
I was expecting this movie to be cute and funny and feel-good but it was a lot more than that and I am so happy! It was very touching and I spent a lot of it quietly weeping hahaha and it has such a good message <3 I wouldn't change any bit of it...except for her staying with the guy at the end - what was up with that?! But all in all it was sooo good and I highly recommend it.
Exciting, beautifully shot and entertaining for the most part, but it fails to reach it's full potential because of a wasted villain, forced romance and messy plot which culminates in a terrible third act.
Of course, I had to check out Spielberg's new film to see where his skills have gone. Luckily, I was able to watch a pretty excellent addition to his filmography. Tom Hanks is as great as he always is in here, but the actor I really loved in this was Mark Rylance who plays the USSR spy. He was just so engaging in every scene he's in, even though he's incredibly subtle in what he does. The whole opening sequence with him keeps you locked in despite a lack of dialogue.
Pretty much everything about the movie is done well, but I do have just a bit of an issue with the length being pretty long. It kind of feels like there could have been two separate films from this, or that it would have been perfect for a two parter TV film or something. No biggie though, because everything packed in there is certainly worth your extra time.
The combination of Spielberg's direction, Hanks' performance and the Coen Brothers' script makes for an awesome film.
Everything about this movie looked terrible to me before seeing it. I assumed it was just a lame, dumb comedy that would have nothing unique or interesting at all.
I was very wrong about this assumption. Turns out this is a really good comedy using genre staples very well. Probably the biggest upside is that they created a strong lead female character. The jokes aren't really about how she's a terrible choice for an agent. Instead, it is often showing her as very good at her job, just in unconventional ways. That is a big plus, the fact that they don't take a sexist route was the biggest surprise for me.
Compelling plot and likeable character create an amazing and entertaining, albeit harsh and heavy, film. Brilliant acting by of course Jean Reno but also Natalie Portman! Somehow I always manage to forget what an amazing actress she is. Love this film and it will surely be a movie I remember for many years to come.
One of the greatest! The movie defines friendship and brotherhood.
This is the best movie ever
All in all, it was alright but the urge to buy a Mercedes has never been higher.
Claire running around in her high heels and out running a T-REX is the most ridiculous thing I ever saw in a movie. Almost killed all illusion of disbelief...
The great thing about this movie is that it knows what it is, a mindless destruction flick, and rarely tries to be something more. Most of the effect are great, and the Rock... Is the Rock.
Absolutely recommended if you want to shut down your brain and have a lot of fun.
Just a good destruction movie. Great CGI and no plot. Just sit back with pop corn and enjoy
This movie is just another disaster movie. The characters are very shallow with at times very very bad acting. If you like a simple plain disaster movie you should watch it. If you look for good acting then skip this movie.
A franchise that gets better with each installment, this was great, the set pieces were brilliant, and the team know exactly what works now, The Cruiser for me is the Postman, he always delivers!!! Thoroughly enjoyed this
Ok... The thing is this: Just forget the stupid story with the dog. No... Forget ANY story - it simply has none. BUT this movie is a piece of art in the category of action movies. Think of Kill Bill without any story and add even more coolness. ;)
Keanu Reeves is more mad than ever...but looks absolutely the same as always. His career can be summed up by his facials expression throughout the movie. In all seriousness...great film. Decent, but overplayed storyline. But, revenge for the dog though? That kept me watching to the end. Thumbs up Keanu, you're not as much of a goner than I thought.
Wickedly fun, and gloriously action packed, Kingsman is a delightful bit of parody spy action film that thrives on stupidity, which of course can be it's downfall (particularly the villain's uninteresting premise which is baffling considering he's played by one of the most attention demanding actors, Samuel L. Jackson) but for the most part Kingsman is a blast of good, glorious violence as well as containing the church scene which will go down as one of the best action sequences in recent memory
Very good perspective on an old western movie.
Gory but seriously awesome a must watch video absolutely hilarious that's comen from a gal by the way
