3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Nope’:
I kept waiting, and waiting, for this film to get good. For the moment when things kick into high gear and it earns that price of admission. For me, it never got there. It always teetered on the edge of something fun and edge-of-your-seat… but it remained uneventful despite its seemingly-momentous scenes.
The pacing was all sorts of wonky. It felt like there were a lot of disconnects here, a lot of questions. Scenes that went on too long. Unrealistic character reactions and decisions. My scalp is sore from all the head scratching. I just wish this were a more structured story with all the ideas it contained.
Great cast, but the character of OJ was incredibly bland and emotionally flat. A more compelling lead character may have risen this film above all its flaws.
Bonus Thought: What was the significance of the mysterious balancing shoe?
starring Sebastian Stan as Armie Hammer
"Hey Siri, Call 911" Boom. Problem solved.
that would never happen to me i don't visit even friends who live a subway station away
While the story, characters and acting leaves much to be desired, Hellraiser's use of prosthetics and special effects are still amazingly impressive to this day. As a new watcher this year, I was astounded by some of the effects work on show here, which really stands the test of time over it's CG counterparts. Not sure I'll watch the others in the series, but as a stand alone entry it's an impressive 90 minutes.

I really wanted to love this movie, but it just didn't do it for me. There are a few great moments here, and the performances are undoubtedly very good. Lots of great shots, and I like the idea of what Eggers was going for. But in the end, it just felt... lacking. I liked the brutality and the often historically accurate feel of the movie at times, but even the best of the action sequences just didn't really do it for me. I feel as though the movie could easily have been 20 minutes shorter - I say this as someone who loves long movies, and I'm always more than happy to sit through even longer films than this one, but The Northman simply felt as though it was lacking in substance to justify the runtime. It certainly wasn't a bad movie, but no matter how much I tried to love it, I couldn't. If I had watched it on a small screen at home, I'd probably be giving it an even lower rating, but as it stands, I did think it was a decent cinema experience, and it certainly wasn't a bad way to spend an afternoon.
I've never wanted to beat a child in a movie more than I wanted to beat the son, and oh boy is the daughter just as dumb.
Channing Tatum has officially reached that stage of his career.
that last scene with the train was a little too much. I would have liked it more if doc brown and his family stayed in 1885, otherwise still a great movie!
There are so many things that I loved about this movie. I loved how clean the whole setup is - it only took about twenty minutes to give the viewer an excellent glimpse into where the movie was going and what the main conflicts are. While the girl was at the center of the story the movie really had nothing to do with the girl. The acting by everyone in the movie is absolutely top notch, especially Florence Pugh (she very much reminds me of a young Kate Winslet). Once the story was set up I was extremely curious as to how they were going to wrap it up - the resolution was amazing and did not disappoint.
I do have one last note on this movie. I am a man that embraces science and discounts religion. On the surface it seems as though this movie be a movie about science vs. religion but I think the exchange between the nurse and the nun at the end of the movie shows that the issue was not necessarily religion but fanaticism.

I love Jordan Peele...I was so looking forward to this...and was let down tremendously. The entire Gordy storyline merely seemed like filler and detracted from the rest of the movie. Could've been a lot better imho.
You are all going to thank me! DO NOT WATCH! You are most welcome!!!
3 Thoughts After Re-Watching ‘The Purge’:
I really like this film because it’s such an intriguing and horrifying concept. It’s a quick watch, but it’s super original. It birthed a whole franchise (albeit somewhat underwhelming) and eerie visuals that inspired a slew of Halloween masks I now see every single year.
There were missed opportunities here. And that’s always frustrating when an idea is so great. During this rewatch, I realized that much of this movie is spent walking through a dark house with a flashlight. With such a short runtime, we should’ve spent more moments getting to know these characters, especially the über-creepy leader dude who died way too quickly/easily. Very anticlimactic.
I could watch that scene where Lena Headey bashes her neighbor’s head into the table a hundred times lol. Immensely satisfying.
It feels weird grading something like this based on entertainment value. The story is really interesting (and terribly sad, of course) but this doc starts to lose steam towards the end.
I’m all for metaphorical films but this is just lazy. A history teacher spots himself in a film which his colleague recommends. It's all normal until he and his look-alike finally meet. I think I understand the message it's trying to say but the experience is very tedious and empty and this film ends up saying nothing. I find this film to care more about being artsy then being enjoyable. It has zero entertainment value. This film tries to accomplish classic twin story, same characters with contrasting personality, but I don't think it succeeds at that. Their behaviours feels very forced, their motivations are unreasonable and the conflict between them just doesn't seem realistic to me. The strange imagery is just another attempt to make the film more interesting, sadly it doesn't work. The characters beside the twins are pretty much lifeless, like they don't want to be there in the first place. Also I'm not a fan of the color palette and some stylistic choices used in this film. It looks like piss. The score is the only thing they really put effort into. I won't recommend this film to anyone.
Not an easy watch and not as good as I thought it would be. It had plenty of memorable moments, but I found it too long and unsatisfying for me. 6/10
A disappointing follow-up. It primarily lacked any kind of suspense. Go watch/re-watch the first Sinister instead.
A stupid movie for children. The plot is weak and not original. Why should the witches kill children? Why do they hate them?
Good movie. The makers tried something different and it sort of worked. With all the crap 2024 is producing, this is one of the best horror movies of 2024.
Watch if you want your heart ripped out of your chest and stomped on.
6.75/10: It accomplished what it set out to do without a lot of frills. You get 70s stranger danger, jump scares, and even some laughs. It's a good movie and worth a theater watch. The mask helped Ethan Hawke be brilliantly terrifying. Great sibling and other children connections to make everything count. The sister, Gwen, was hilarious and Madeleine McGraw's star will continue to rise.
Perhaps too cynical but kept waiting for the trick or the trap. I thought more was incoming or maybe I wanted to know more than it was willing the give. Somewhat conflicted but not in a terrible way with the ending. Like I'm glad he won and got out, but it seemed it ended too happy for it to have been a horror movie, lol, if that makes sense. Like, guess too used to everyone having a vibe at the end like they know they'll be in therapy.
"I've been talking to you for five minutes and you've offered to suck my dick to kill you."
Truly a work of modern art.
I stuck it out for Clint but I was not rewarded. meh.
one of the best sci fi movie...even after 23 years it doesn't look old and story is very interesting :sign_horns:
My favorite Sagan book just became one of my favorite movies in life. I've been deliberately postponing my time with "Contact" just because I was so fucking afraid it would do some kind of dirt with the masterpiece romance but damn... I was so wrong.
It's brilliant! Terrific, astonishing, deep, incredible - everything I could possibly love in a movie.
I thought this was pretty entertaining. It's stupid humor, like the first, but it still has its moments. I liked that Mel Gibson was basically just a shit disturber.
With this and A Bad Moms Christmas coming out so close they felt very similar. Both are funny but I think I liked this one a little more.
I kinda want to see Missile Tow now.
If you're an anxious wreck like me looking for something to distract you from the current pandemic, you may want to skip this one.
I agree with the comments that said that this movie is too foreseeable but there are a lot of sub elements that, even having an idea of how the movie will ends, the development is very interesting.
The cinematography is very beautiful and the sounds are very well recreated. The acting of the three main characters are glorious and, even if you think that you know what is going on, the viewer has to pay attention of the different keys that happens because not always something is what we think/believe it will go.
