Is this based on the Hugh Howey (Wool/Silo) novel?
loading replies
@bubbalou Yes, this is based on Hugh Howeys novel which is also titled 'Beacon 23'.
It's series like these that makes me wonder, DID THEY AIM TO MAKE IT HORRIBLE OR WAS IT AN ACCIDENT? Where to start? Aweful casting appearance wise. Those are the faces of unpaid extras not protagonists. Not to mention acting irself is a foreign concept. It seems like they are in a school play for extra credit. It's goofy, awkward and uncomfortable. Too many characters, non of them remotely interesting. I couldn't care less if they found the treasure or be eaten bu sharks. Especially that chuby pirate lady seems like she's in a hurry to go eat. I wonder, who's her father that got her that role. ZERO TALENT! The obligatory woke bullshit is there obviously, but that's not even the worst thing.
I had zero expectations cuz let's face it Netflix is long dead but this was exceptionally abysmal. I just hope ppl didn't pay to see it. RATE 2/10loading replies
Just curious, where exactly was the "woke" bs you mentioned and why would you think that Netflix is dead when it absolutely dominates the streaming charts?

@dariodp Having never watched the anime version, I am okay with the casting and from the wiki it says "Nojiko is an average-sized young woman with light blue hair and eyes, and tanned skin." ..... so, nailed it? Heh heh seriously though I fully understand why fans of the original would prefer someone closer to the image of the character that has been portrayed for many episodes.
This isn't Black Mirror.

@katebishop black mirror is about society changes/problems - i'm assuming you are referring to the lack of technology in this season.
Another episode that doesn't fit in the "Black Mirror" series. Not even remotely anything to do with tech or dystopia. The "immigrant hate" angle went nowhere. Was there any hidden meaning / point to the story, or was it just a meaningless story?

@vicky_buddy the xenophobia went nowhere? It gave her motivation to pick her last kill!
I see why the creator gets so frustrated with viewers that want the show to follow a strict formula.
Amazon Prime making Stranger Things, but different enough to avoid a lawsuit.

@rasungod0 the comic is from 2015. Stranger Things is from 2016.

@rasungod0 It's based on a comic released before the show tho.
I loved the whole season, similar to The Eric Andre Show & Nathan For You.

VIP3The action sequences were solid, particularly the martial arts, and the casting and acting were also fine but the script is a mess, the pacing is off, and the second half feels goofy and disjointed from the first half. The second half action was difficult to follow and felt like a DC cluster f--- aimed at the Chinese market. HOWEVER, I am looking forward to seeing Shang-Chi utilized in the future films.

@dreadlockuni How are you reviewing a movie that hasn't been released yet?
I stopped when the two girls where having a conversation and one was wearing noise cancelling headphones.

@talwinder You've seen this guy 10 times and you don't know who it is? SMH.
White conservatives will hate it but this episode is true to the spirit of the original series. Tense with a message relevant to our times.

@the_argentiniant I agree this EPISODE is lit
Definitely the series has already lost its original humor, it only focuses on parody the current events putting Cartman and Randy as the main characters of the story, see Kenny, Stan and Kyle involved in the development of the episodes of the last seasons at the same time on screen is now very irregular. Matt and Trey just keep doing the series only for sucking money from Comedy Central.

@johniixx I'm sorry, but being a parody of the current events is so much the South Park thing: it's built, written, produced, directed, recorded, promoted as exactly that. Just look at how this season is tagged #cancelSouthPark, or even better watch "6 Days To Air".
The writing was also quite good to me, so... could it possibly be that you got, dare I say, offended by it?

@johniixx "focuses on parody the current events" is kinda south parks thing
The Movie is great, but it seems like the only actor who gave a really good performance was Jack Nicholson.

@philrivers I completely agree. I don't understand why so many people say her performance is bad when I find it excellent and completely realistic to the situation Wendy is in.
I enjoyed this, I heard about it on the Doug Loves Movies podcast where a guest said to watch it but don't look up anything about it and I think that does make the experience better.
For those that have seen it, is it really based on true events?

@philrivers Doug Love Movies also brought this to my attention. It was enjoyable. I’m also curious about your question.
Finally had a chance to see this... it's been two years since it's premiere at TIFF and some evil mastermind deceided to move the release date further up ;(. Thankfully it did not disappoint.
It's pretty much a crowd pleaser so I would recommend to watch it in the cinema. Barrett's script puts it well above the regular horror fare we get this days and Wingard does a good job directing. It's of course not without flaws; the shaky cam in the beginning is a bit much and the usual horror logic applies. That said: it doesn't really matter. Your dark soul will have plenty of fun with it.loading replies
The blender scene was just awesome. That's how you pander to horror fans :)!
Probably the worst movie I've ever seen.

I love it. Masked killers who don't know who they're messing with; for once.
With all the great reviews I suspected a hidden jewel, and it kinda was. However it annoyed me a lot.
Especially the dialog was extremely hectic and kind of retarded in the first 30 minutes. It got a bit better after that, but never really good. The actions and decisions were of people that just did not think, something that doesn't fit in a movie with a smart setting like multiverses. imho it only fits with comedy and some exceptions here and there, but that's just me.
One of the flaws that showed itself a couple of times was the time flow. Time is not really consequent throughout the whole movie. In 1 scene someone drinks up a bottle of wine within a minute, and on a few occasions people were gone for a longer period of time (10-20min) while in the house itself no more than 5 minutes were passed at best. This could be explained by the major plot twist in the end, but it would be nice if there were made 1 or 2 remarks about it if that was the case.
The movie is also not giving the viewer time to make their own construction of the situation but making a few emotional scenes right after an info-dump and repeating this process.
And when the characters finally start to understand how complex the situation could be, they decide to pop open the alcohol and get wasted.... seriously?
It brings the movie to a dramatic impasse that is completely unnecessarily and just slows down the mystery.Luckily the movie manages to get some points in after that. More focusing on story development, having some very interesting plot twists and using the mystery to its benefit in stead of for the drama.
Those last 15 minutes are a good home run, and the movie sets up a completely other pace and setting. Suddenly moving from a group of people with no clue what's going on, to one main character with an objective.
Maybe they should've done this from the beginning to make it more interesting. The girl (Emily?) who took on this role was from the beginning one of the few actors I did not have many complains about, and was doing a good job.Usually I am a big fan of the 'quantum multiverse' theory worked into a movie, and the concept in this one is very nicely done. But even though they tried (and to be fair the creators have a good grasp on the subject) it kinda failed with the overly dramatic setting and insulting the viewer by letting characters make dumb decisions.
Since it is a low budget movie, I decided not to be too harsh on the rating itself (it really is a movie that can match itself with the high budget ones) and I definitely would upvote for a remake with some better scriptwriting for dialog and some actions. Because I think that this flick could be even better.

Dude, you obviously did not understand this movie. Your being vague in your comments and simply I don't believe this is your type of movie.
So season one of Legion has finished. Easily the best (non anime/comic) tv show currently running. Can't wait for more!

@philrivers it's based on a comic but it's not animated is what I'm trying to say
I saw this movie in an early screening and I must say it was one of, if not the best movie marvel has ever made.
