Donnie Darko

In zero days, zero hours, zero minutes and a few seconds, there will be spoilers..

Donnie Darko. What the hell kind of name is that? It's like some sort of superhero or something," Gretchen teases Donnie as they walk home from school. "What makes you think I'm not?" he replies. Donnie Darko is a subtle superhero story, but make no mistake, it is a superhero movie.

Nocturnal Animals

Susan's face harden once more into a mask of sadness. She finally understands the book as an elaborate act of revenge, and that dedicating it to her wasn't a compliment. She knows now that he'll never forgive her, and the book is a pointed message about just how thoroughly she devastated him.

Vengeance as justice, art as revenge.

The First Slam Dunk

The BEST use of 3D I've ever seen in my life.

The CGI in this movie is by far the best I've seen in any anime, it's not distractingly 60fps smooth, but it's not trying to be a choppy 2D anime either, it strikes a perfect balance and actually enhances the experience.

I rarely comment on soundtracks simply because I just never really notice it unless it's crazy good, and this movie forced me to notice it, it was just banger after banger and really helped carry the countless hype moments this movie had.

This movie's absolutely phenomenal, and you do not need to be a basketball fan to enjoy it fully. Even at pure face value, the quality of animation this film flaunts is amazing. You might have genuine issues distinguishing this film from reality. It's just that well animated.

The final sequence is one of best sequence I've ever watched in my entire life. I'm an official Slam Dunk fan now.

Slam Dunk/10

Primer

I have a very proud record of understanding every movie that includes time travel... until I watched Primer.

Although I managed to figure it out the second time. It's one of those films that rewards careful attention and analysis.

Aattam

Aattam is undoubtedly important and shouldn't be over looked. Men who abuse, rape, or misbehave are not the only ones at fault, but also those who remain silent or show solidarity with them. Every man should fear this. It is likely to trigger many people & should be that way. A remarkable contribution from Malayalam cinema. Solid politics.

A unique style of narration. It's not easy to create a gripping screenplay for filming because half of the movie involves conversations between team members.

To me "This is Cinema".

Whiplash

What does it mean to be great? I enjoyed "Whiplash" because Damien Chazelle shows how the blood, sweat, and tears that come along to one's craft, even when no one's cheering you on, can lead to success.

It all ends on a triumphantly upbeat note that has the intensity to completely dominate every annoyance and dubious direction that came before it.

One of the best movie endings I've ever seen.

Dune: Part Two

I just saw Dune 2 and it is now my entire personality.

Dune: Part Two, like its predecessor but dialed up to eleven, is a spectacle that engages both head and heart, never allowing your eyes a moment's rest. It demands much from its audience but rewards us generously for joining its journey. My advice: don’t just watch it, experience it on the largest screen possible and immerse yourself. Villeneuve showcases the magic of cinema—a magic often spoken of but rarely truly felt nowadays. This is nothing short of a beautiful, bizarre sci-fi masterpiece overflowing with big ideas and even grander visual wonders. Absolute cinema.

It’s a story about colonialism, religion, power structures, fate, destiny, free will, choice, the existential threat posed by hero worship and mythology, and the way that these sorts of mythic structures entrap those who wield them as readily as those who follow them.

Villeneuve's Dune: Part Two is a striking look at the manipulative power of religion, and despite a familiar setting of a fantasy narrative, the audience is engagingly sucked into how power is ambiguously created through myths leading blind faith to be invested in for control over the masses.

Sunshine

The movie completely blew me away with everything it has: the plot, cast, soundtrack, visuals, and more. It's from 2007 and severely underrated.

I couldn't believe I hadn't even heard of it or seen a preview. It's still one of the most awe-inspiring and beautiful sci-fi films ever, with a heartwrenching soundtrack.

At the end of time, a moment will come when just one man remains. Then, the moment will pass. The man will be gone, and there will be nothing to show that we were here but stardust.

Poor Things

I didn't like the movie. It looked and sounded great with beautiful costumes and settings, and the story and characters were interesting. But the plot was boring, like other stories about someone discovering society. It talked about socialism and worker unions, but not in detail. Even when it talked about prostitution, it didn't say much. Overall, it felt like the writers didn't try hard enough. It's not worth watching because it doesn't say anything meaningful about the topics it brings up.

Star Wars: Andor

It was satisfying for me because it’s sort of Star Wars for grown-ups – it’s a more realistic and complicated society that they’re living in and the claustrophobia of the fascist regime is palpable. I think we have a good season ahead of us"

Reservoir Dogs

Well, they never actually carry out the planned diamond heist on screen, focusing instead on the aftermath and the relationships between the criminals. This unique storytelling approach not only saved on budget but also set Quentin Tarantino apart as a visionary filmmaker, paving the way for his illustrious career!

I don't tip.

2001: A Space Odyssey

"2001: A Space Odyssey" is a sci-fi epic that takes viewers on a mind-bending journey through time and space. It explores humanity's evolution, from our ape-like ancestors to the possibility of transcending our physical limitations. The film is divided into distinct chapters, each marked by the appearance of a mysterious black monolith that acts as a catalyst for change.

The first chapter depicts the dawn of humanity, showing how the monolith empowers early hominids to use tools and weapons. Millions of years later, in the year 2001, another monolith is discovered on the moon, leading to a mission to Jupiter to investigate its origins. Onboard the spacecraft Discovery, a sentient computer named HAL 9000 takes control, posing a threat to the astronauts. The film's climax is a psychedelic and enigmatic sequence that leaves viewers to interpret its meaning.

"2001: A Space Odyssey" is more than just a sci-fi film; it's a philosophical exploration of humanity's place in the universe, the nature of intelligence, and the potential for our future evolution.

Robot Dreams

After watching Robot Dreams, I feel really sick. The movie hit me hard, especially at the end, where it overwhelmed me and tore my heart apart.

This animated film is unlike any other. It's beautiful, celebratory, sad, and touching, all without needing words. It's straightforward yet packs a powerful punch, exploring life, feelings, and connections in a profound way.

I loved Robot Dreams. It's a beautifully delicate look into friendship, love, and loneliness. It speaks volumes without saying a word. I saw pieces of myself in both of these characters, which hurt me. urge everyone to watch this.

American Fiction

Potential is what people see when what's in front of them isn't good enough.

"It is an absolute blast. Not only is it a cleverly written dark satire, but it also delves into emotional themes of self-discovery and acceptance that complement the satire in a satisfying manner.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the scene where they are picking the winner and what one group of voters says to the other... It was the perfect way to get the point of the whole movie.

Ferrari

The movie says society is like a dangerous place ruled by bad people, and even things like sports and art make it look better than it is. It talks about how businesses act like they're honest but really aren't, and how personal history is part of it too. It's a film about how people create a fake image of being respectable. Mann, the creator, really admires the main guy and the stories around him, making the movie strong.

Viduthalai: Part I

Vetri Maaran’s Viduthalai falls in similar lines of James Cameron’s Avatar. A coming-of-age tale about an outsider who moves to a conflict-prone location, and discovers, through his journey, the line that separates those who are actually exploiting others from those who are being exploited. Vetri Maaran engages us with the world through both technical and emotional means. The complete macroscopic vision of what is heading our way is provided to us in the opening one-take sequence — from extracting a lifetime best performance from a comedian to using the Rashomon technique in writing style, Vetri Maaran delivers not only one of the finest movies of the year but also a masterclass in both writing and direction.

Jigarthanda DoubleX

I watched this yesterday, and it has some of the best cinematography in recent times. It truly makes you fall in love with every aspect of what cinema represents. The '90s color grading is spot on, and Kartik, the director, drawing inspiration from Quentin Tarantino's works and incorporating some of his elements as a fanboy, is very well executed.

The film delves into the inhumane practices of colonialism, employing cinema and violence within a fully thought-out narrative and structured character arcs. Powerful cinema.

Sapta Sagaradaache Ello – Side A

Somewhere Beyond the Seven Seas

"Sapta Sagaradaache Ello - Side A" is a truly well-made film. The characters grow on you, and it's cringe-free with subtle expressions. The music and acting are on point.

I really love this kind of slow, emotional, poetic movie, but the second part tested my patience. However, it's worth it; it's slow but immersive. The realism pleasantly caught me off guard. There are no song and dance sequences, no flashbacks of how they met or how he wooed her—just their present dilemma matters.

The camerawork at the climax is top-notch; every shot feels like a painting. The last 10 minutes' glimpse of Side B left me with shivers.

Gran Turismo

"Gran Turismo" executed a familiar story exceptionally well. While this may seem like a backhanded compliment, I genuinely mean it as praise. Injecting originality and tension into a well-worn plot is challenging, but this movie successfully achieves it. It's a classic popcorn blockbuster with few flaws. David Harbour stands out, making it a recommendation for anyone who was hesitant before.

The Creator

It's been a while since I watched a good sci-fi in theaters that screamed to me that it's worth paying. I am not saying this will blow your mind away, but this will make you feel why you, me and everyone else love movies and why we catch on that seat in the cinema hall every now and then hoping to feel something New from cinema.

It's been beautifully crafted that takes us right into the dystopian world. This movie has released at time where AI is growing and questions are asked about the safety of humans and this one exactly addresses that.

It's packed with some pretty great music by Hans Zimmer, and amazin VFX which transports you right into the characters life and their flaws. All said go watch this movie if you've a good time.
