I REALLY don't get why most people didn't like it. In my opinion it really worked quite neatly
It was everything they said it would be and then some! Supreme spectacle with otherworldly intensity. Fan first was an experience I’ll never forget. A film for the ages. Long live the fighters!
Total awesome. My heart was in my throat continuously watching this. Great visual style, Awesome soundtrack, and one of the best movie openings I've seen in a while. The chemistry between Gosling and Mulligan is palpable. One suggestion when you watch it - turn the lights down and the sound up - it is a movie that requires your undivided attention...
Ouch.
The visuals are breathtaking, as already shown by the trailers.
ScarJo is trying, you can tell that she wants this to be her new franchise.
It's edited quite nicely, it's got a (simple) story, and it's coherent.
So where did it go wrong?
One of the problems is that it takes away all of the philosophical depth from the original.
Well, that means you can still enjoy it from a simple action flick perspective, right?
Good luck with that.
This film has such a ridiculous amount of exposition, that it badly hurts the enjoyment of the film.
Many sequences consist of characters just talking to each other, and explaining the plot.
Things are definitely shown, but then the filmmakers don't think we're able to put two and two together, and hence add another explanatory scene.
As a result of that, the film doesn't take its time to develop the characters, meaning you won't care about them.
Top it off with an awful performance from Juliette Binoche, and you have your modern style over substance film.
3.5/10
As someone who actually lives in Mexico, and has a 12-men strong Policias Federales group parked just outside my office with machine guns and a freaking tank (yes, a small tank with 2 50mm turrets), and my fair amount of dead bodies seen around in Tamaulipas, Nuevo Leon and Sonora, many kidnapped (and lost forever) friends, this movie is one of the best I've ever seen about the War On Drugs. The third act is too constrained, but understandable as this is a movie made for an American audience. I wonder if you guys can tell the difference between Mexico City (where most of the Mexican scenes were shot) and Ciudad Juarez or Nogales, because you can't film there at all. The situation here is worst than anybody can imagine, and I just have to look outside my window. I'm looking forward for the next movie with Del Toro's character.
except for the kinda shitty trailer, this movie really suprised me. it got everything right, had much pleasure watching it and cant wait to see more of this fantastic universe come to cinema!
that's genius! nowadays there will never be movies like this again
This has to go down as an expensive misfire. Sequels have already been announced, but unless they want to call the next film Dull, they need to lay down a better story. There wasn't a lot of room for imaginative world building here, and there were too many bullets over the magic. Clunky dialogue threatened to sink it, but a few bright moments lifted the film from the surprisingly mundane setting.
This was one hell of a ride, fun, fast, smart, good story despite what some people said, nice black comedy with action... and stuff. Great performances and great chemistry between Gosling and Crowe they were very funny and the girl, well, I loved all her scenes, was cute and funny, she was great. Very good movie, my favorite from this year.
Loved it!! Even though it had a run way around the world.. It had enough action to keep me satisfied and the return of letty always nice..
Epicness defined. The movie is everything a comics fan would want. Yes, it is the first comic book movie that was actually made for the fans of the comics. Eisenberg's take on Luthor is spot on, Affleck as Batman is plainly brutal, and awesome. Gadot's little development was enough for us to see the Amazonian Warrior in it's full glory. Cavill delivered an amazing performance as a real conflicted Superman.
They made a 2 hour movie from a 90 min story.
To long and gets boring pretty fast.
The 2nd part of this movie is phenomenal. The 1st part however, although ok, could've been a lot better.
I finished the book recently and when I was watching this movie I thught I was reading the book again. This is one of the best adaption of a book I've ever seen. The acting was great. Leonardo DiCaprio did a marvelous work, as always. I also love Toby McGuire performance. The worst is the music, too modern for that age.
Thank you for making porn for all of my senses, and for taking me on an emotional rollercoaster.
And for making me fall in love with Gal Gadot.
And for awakening the part of me I thought I had lost.
All in all, critics are too simple minded to understand the epic scale of this movie and all hidden elements in it.
Cinematography, acting, music, effects, plot, and easter eggs are incredibly well done and I will see it at least 2 more times in cinema.
For those concerned with critics' opinions - don't be. Just go to the theatre, forget about everything and let the movie consume you completely.
One of the best Lovecraft's interpretations to date.
'Re-Animator' is a classy 80's body horror that manages to balance comedy so well. There will never be anything like this again. Many will try, but those will be known "attempts".
I never thought a movie with only 12 men in 1 room with no action could be so thrilling, so engaging, so thought-provoking, so emotional so... PERFECT!
Well that was a messed up film of weirdness and I liked it. Good performance from James woods. Some good effects.
Uncomfortable but compulsive viewing, gave a brutal insight into the hellish world of the drug cartel and morally ambiguous attempts at controlling it. I liked the way Emily Blunt was set up as the heroine of the piece but was soon found to be hopelessly out of her depth and Ill equipped to deal with the harsh reality of her situation... When you think about it, she was chewed up and spat out and gave a great performance to depict that. Del Toro was monstrous and awesome! I'd rather Walter White come knocking than him!!
Like it for what it is. This isn't some happy go lucky shiny Marvel film with RDJ quipping his way through and appeasing the masses. This is classic DC darkness. It shows the side of both our heroes that needed to be aired. We finally saw the weight that Superman has to carry on his shoulders. Despite my initial reservations, Affleck did a fantastic job in this role and Gadot's Wonder Woman was also a pleasure to watch. She wasn't the wispy sex symbol I feared but instead a true force to be reckoned with including a hint of layers yet to be revealed.
Cannot wait for the directors cut.
One of the best films I've seen this year. Is dark, tense, interesting since the beginning, Del Toro's character was excellent since the moment he appears, and all the mystery around this character is well working. Blunt was superb too, I think all the cast was, and I really like the story, we might think it's about revenge but Matt made it clear it's not just that, they just take advantage of what the hitman wanted, I don't know, it's a must see movie and it was great.
This movie was quite amazing. The tension from the music and directional pacing was superbly executed. This movie is most comparable to a military movie on special forces with the dark rhythmic music and understated action. It was the small things that counted, without all the flair of action movies this movie creates so much tension and excitement of an action flick without the explosives and over the top fighter jets and tanks.
Ryan Gosling saying:"Jesus!" haha
In this movie, Spider-man, with great malice and forethought, deliberately murders Electro, despite knowing he was a decent person with a compromised mental state by way of his powers. He kills a redeemable guy. On purpose.
Fuck this movie.
A tense, complex thriller that doesn't stint on the emotional fallout of the war on drugs.
I loved it! The disco-themed setting is awesome and the Russel Crowe/Ryan Gosling combo really does work better then I expected!
