This show is amazing! I can't believe i've missed it all these years until trakt came along.
I love how Doctor House always talks sarcastically against his team and how he always plays pranks on the people he cares about. He is brilliant doctor in how he always finds an answer to problems other doctors cannot analyze.
Over the seasons we see more and more of the characters and get to know the people behind the white doctor clothes. Every one of them has their own story to tell that in the end makes them as real as anyone who watches this show.
Season 1 - Quality action adventure from Amazon Prime. Well written. Tight tension. Great international feel. Good performances (John Krasinski is a good dramatic actor). Great chemistry between Jack and Cathy. More nudity than I expected, sometimes gratuitous/salacious. The interplay between Jack and Greer made a great buddy pairing. I give this season an 8 (great) out of 10.
Season 2 - Eveything just fell below the standard set by the first season. The plot was fragmented. The story didn't rise to thrilling (except, maybe, the London segment). The multiple story lines watered down the action. There were too many leaps of credibility. I give the second season a 6.5 (not good enough) out of 10. Fortunately, the seasons do not depend on each other, just as some shows are "crime of the week", this is "espionage of the season". Each has its own story arc that stands alone. Even though this season fell flat for me, there is always the next one. [Action Adventure Spy/Terrorist Thriller]
I just finished watching the first season a little while ago. And despite the fact that my ratings on every episode weren't all 10/10, I'll give the show itself a 10/10. Plus, I have no doubt that the second season will be even better than the first.
Who would have thought that a show I knew nothing about would be so entertaining, full of properly made and timely political and cultural exploration and accurate portrayal of most if not all of its aspects? It's such a gem in a time of boring yet popular series like Arrow or The Walking Dead. Looking forward to more of this!
Absolutely brilliant job of modernizing characters created 30 years ago. Superb story, well-written, big budget, and once you get past the first episode, nail-biting suspense. Tom Clancy's stories have always been superb, and politically ahead of times, and it's nice to see the heart of his stories and political insights persisting here. I love this show, because it really feels like a Tom Clancy story, and really I hate having to wait a year to get the next installment!
To really appreciate the awesomeness of this series, pick up some Jack Ryan Tom Clancy novels - start with "The Hunt for Red October".
Now let's give Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt some TV love :)
Otherwise, fun to see reviews from people who've never picked up a book...
stunningly good series. It's a totally new interpretation of Jack Ryan and his road to fame within the CIA, loosely based on the original novels and unrelated to any movie or whatever. I enjoyed season 1 a lot. It's graphical and definitely worth a R rating for all that can lead to it. Looking forward to season 2 and 3 (season 3 has already been confirmed before season 2 finished shooting)
Season 3 was great but the show takes a nose dive after episode 7...too much focus on mental health. Not really sure what that has to do with the show...ruined the season with the side story line which became the main focus of the show. I don’t know why the writers feel this type of direction is good.
I quite enjoy Josh Thomas's stand up and this series came to me highly recommended.
However, this show lacks the energy of a stand up routine so with long slow periods between jokes that aren't worth the wait. This is not a comedy. It is first and foremost a drama, but it's hard when there's no sense of direction. The story moments just seem to happen without appearing to fit within any story or character arcs.
For example, the series starts with the end of Josh's last heterosexual relationship. Is the story arc about how he finds a new relationship? Nope. Next story beat he gets a boyfriend. Is the story arc about how he (and the people around him) cope with the realisation that he's gay? Nope. A couple quick jokes and everyone (Josh included) immediately accepts his homosexuality. Every time it appears like an interesting arc is being set up, it immediately fizzles out.
It lost my interest half way through the first episode, and although I endured watching until the end of the second episode, I was not rewarded for my persistence.
Starts slow but gets some nice trktion towards the end. Some familiar faces appear, I would recommend this for every fan.
if it has the first name as star trek it means great, as an 38 year age man I will not see more of space SyFi, cause the time is not with us, it would please me to watch this type of TV shows in my time line, I hope to the humanity to reach the potential of peace and explore the space.
It seems like the writers copy and past posts from infidelity subreddits. there is no depth, mediocre conversations, and bad acting. So what we get? The answer is an awful movie and a bad mini-series.
Set in a dystopian future, a woman is forced to live as a concubine under a theonomic dictatorship. A TV adaptation of Margaret Atwood's novel. INTJ Keywords: Drama, Fantasy, Science Fiction, Dystopian, Apocalypse, Futuristic, Political.
While slow at points this series speaks to me as a bisexual male in a mlm relationship in ways that no other show has and normalises a lot of things previously foreign to me and for that this show is amazing. Definitely interested in seeing Josh Thomas live at some point in the future
I can only describe this show as 'perfectly awkward'. I adore how it skips across the balance beam of comedy and drama, depicting some incredibly realistic situations and life events that range from hilarious to depressing, without wallowing in either of them. This is not a tearjerker about depression, or a rofl-comedy, but that perfect sardonic middle where all characters are both likeable and flawed.
Showrunner, writer, and lead Josh Thomas has said it is based on his own life. Although his unique voice was a bit of a hurdle at first, I quickly warmed to his, and other characters. Give it a few episodes at least :)
Greek freakin' tragedy. Well worth the watch. Very well done show.
When I first started watching this I thought yeah it's ok but the more and more episodes I've gone through the better it has got. top stuff.
This is adorable. A must watch for Princess Bride fans. :thumbsup_tone2::heart:
A charming retelling of The Princess Bride at this time of Covid 19. Famous actors recreate the entire movie scene by scene, and somehow it works. Although I think it helps that The Princess Bride is one of my favorite movies.
Say what the hell you want. This A-Capella show is one helluva entertaining show. Glad they resurrected it. Awesomeness all around.
I've read the book series. This first season does a really good job adapting the first book. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the special effects are. And they did a great job with the casting, the actor Hewei Yu completely transforms into the cop Shi Qiang.
Having read the trilogy, I have small runts regarding the adherence to the book (from what I've seen so far it tracks the first book of the series, or part of it). Seen around 7 episodes, so here goes nothing:
Basically, I'm being let down by certain cinematic selections:
Actors seem to act in this theatrical way. From what I've seen in the last 10 years, in Chinese movies (also Korean and Japanese) this is some sort of de facto way to play on screen. Personally, it alienates me. Would love to see those people talking/acting like actual people. The hardened cop in the book becomes almost a comic relief element. FFS, there is no need to insert to a sci-fi story with a huge drama element these shots of witless humor.
The books are gloomy. The music fails to reproduce this, having even happy sing-along songs about the end of the world as we know it. Most of the episode duration is dressed with some sort of anxiety-raising beat. Seriously, silence can speak volumes
Finally there's a lot of scene repeats. Pretty useful for thick-heads like me, since I totally forget what I've seen some episodes ago, but the level of repetition is too much.
I hate this damn show. Started pretty well. First season had me hook and then the usual happen. The show turns into a circus. The story is unrealistic. Jack is a brute. The plot in all seasons are identical. You can predict what's going to happen in the next 10 episodes in a each season after watching the first 6. The show is prejudice and racist. I swear if I was from the middle of east I would of sued the producer and writer. Jack don't obey the law. He obeys no one. He follows no rules but he gets away with it. He kills and torture people and get away with it. He never lost a fight. He fights soldiers like himself and always win. Like don't they all got the same training you got lol. Like come on. You can ways count on him to save the day. I particular hate stupid plots like this. I am an American and I hate this crap about American shows. The white hero always saving the fucking day business. How about a black or Hispanic or Middle East guy saving the world for once. And stop making people more stupid with his computer geniuses in these shows who seems to know how to do it all. If that was so true than a lot of people who are engineers like myself in the IT field would of been unemployed. No you can not copy an entire data center to a bloody thumb drive. I see these none sense in two many shows. 24, Nikita, alias, etc...they all have this one guy who can do it all. I can believe this crap is coming back.
i loooove the interaction between Tyler Labine and Anupam Kher. It is hillarious.
Wow, what a trainwreck. Didn't even realize this should have been NBC's next "big one", before reading some comments and reviews. At first I thought they might be cross-promoting something from Comcast's basic cable channels, like USA. But no, those shows tend to have far better casting and acting; and partially even writing. But good news for all Millennials: now you can join the NYPD, even if you're unqualified and unmotivated. My highlight is Daryl Edwards' portrayal of the smirky, resignated actor - um, sorry meant to write NSA Director - who perfectly delivers a very deep message in each scene, without even speaking: "Oh man, in what kind of a silly production have I ended up? I really need to speak with my agent... or consider a new representation. No, Daryl, no, don't start laughing hysterically mid-scene, 13 episodes still pay the mortgage, with a back-nine, you're really good."
In fact, this might be the single most important aspect of the whole production: Crew & Cast will make a few bucks off, of it. Otherwise it's extremely unoriginal, dull, generally very slow paced (don't explain intention before and after each scene), and almost painfully boring, thanks to acting and writing (sorry, you can't fix "everything" in post-production). Good luck, folks
Denny Crane ;)
One of the best out there at the moment in relation to hospital drama
There are so many things to like about this series. The writing has depth. A superb cast. It puts the spotlight on the medical issues of our day. The personal dramas keep us rooted in the series. It's optimistic tone is a drink of cold water in a parched desert. I give this series an 8 (great) out of 10. [Medical Drama]
A series with a bland cast that leaves no memorable characters and such unrealistic understandings of science you'd think the characters were magicians. Can't take scientific inaccuracies and plot-holes? I suspect you won't like it. If you just want to see smart nerds solve stuff and you can roll with the bad science, bland cast, sub-standard plot, you'll like it.
I both love and hate this show. I LOVE the whole idea/concept of it. It makes me laugh when smart people try to say it's a biography. It's entertainment - a story that was created, then manipulated by the network to try and get the highest amount of ratings to fill the Board's pockets with million dollar incentives for showing up once a month at a board meeting. I hate that the network is either trying to dumb it down for a bigger audience or the actual script words aren't well created. The ideas and concepts are good. Sometimes it feels like the people who make the words in between are in a hurry and really don't care. Big Bang Theory has GREAT scripts and all the words count. I feel with all the great acting talent they have in this show, the quality of words to tell the story needs to come up a bit. The whole "will they or won't they" thing with Walter and Paige has also gotten way too old. Every one of the main story lines they're creating have great merit and would be fine with a little positive sprinkle of Walter and Paige coming together. All the "yes they can, no they can't" is the oldest, most boring plot mechanic in serial TV. I frequently think writers in Hollywood are incapable of writing relationships. Doing the cheap "will they, won't they" just seems lazy. Enough please. Pull up your big boy pants and let Walter and Paige slowly get into a relationship they can both learn to accept and become a role model of relationships for Paige's son. Stop making it about when they're going to jump in bed. This show has a cast well worthy of excellent words and deserves the opportunity to prove how great the show can be.
This show is just awesome. I was shocked to see that Jason Bateman could really act. He is perfect in this role. (And no I'm not related to him LOL) Can't wait for the next season to see what kind of badass Wendy becomes, and what kind of trouble Marty and Ruth can get into next
