This time the people working for NASA and the crew, unlike most of sci-fi out there, are almost competent people, unlucky for the sake of the drama, but not stupid on purpose.
Most of the drama on the technical side revolves around one single water recycle system that was built with an useless backup system.
I feel that they could improve on that, giving the crew more variety of problems, with more clever and creative way to resolve them.
The worst part of the story is how much those people are emotionally and psychologically unfit for a mission like that.
They are overburdened by past traumas, unresolved conflits, family problems, internal struggles and professional jealousy.
Away is a perfect example of why i love the odd-man hypotesis introduced in The Andromeda Strain so much.
If you skip trough all the unnecessary sentimental stuff is still watchable.
A brilliant lateral exploration of the heritage of consequences, left by the beige of this world. The thieves are so utterly average, this is the point of entertainment.
I don't know what is slower.. this show or the FBI's "investigation" that took TEN years - even though they knew the party in charge!!! The FBI guys said it was crazy with information coming in from all over the place at an incredible pace where they were working 24/7... for 10 years -really?? At the pace these guys were working before moving in for the arrest we'd still be waiting for Watergate to conclude. I'll watch it to the end to find out what happened, but it could have been wrapped up in 3 or 4 episodes.
i went in hoping it wouldnt be like discovery, and it seemed to at least manage that. Admittedly, i was hoping to see more like TNG, but with Patrick Stewarts career, i suppose it had to at least attempt to be big.
It wasnt all I was hoping for, but it was watchable all the same (compared to Discovery, I could never finish season 1 of Discovery).
if I was to try and describe Picard, I feel like this fits in line with the TNG movies, which were also different than the tv shows, as they had to fit shorter story arcs into a movie. Picard felt like those movies, glossy movie style production, more space action sequences, while also still exploring that age old scifi discussion about what it means to have sentience.
Great Show, but definitely not to watch by drops and should be binge watched.... It's more a movie split in chapters than a TV show... Episodes are just a part and not a whole history... Should be release all at once... Wait until all are launch to watch.
I have always liked Patricks acting and his voice. Working on stage produced amazing ability to project his voice. However, as it does for all - age is catching up and I feel that has changed him allot but still great to watch. Just wonder does anyone else recognize this?
I sat through the first three episodes on pure adrenaline. I mean... Picard is back! The following three episodes I sat through of out loyalty. And now from the seventh episode and forward I just sit with big smile on my face with so much love for this show.
Wow. Those were some of the best 5 seasons of television I've ever seen. Was originally worried about the DirecTV change but nope, that season was great and the final season was even better.
Fantastic show, highly recommended and jesus christ I wish they'd release this all on blu ray..
THE GOOD DOCTOR is back for its third season and all we like about it is still there: Shaun Murphy is still figuring out how to handle the "out of his control" aspects of his life; a great cast is still giving great performances; there are episodic medical dilemmas and season long character arcs. My rating remains unchanged, I give this series an 8 (great) out of 10. [Medical Drama]
Addictive
Yet another masterpiece with Cranston. This show is just amazing.
I have to mention that the writing seems a bit off, and I'm not gonna ignore that Cranston is actually carrying the show. But he's doing it so well though.
###Originality: 9/10
###Progression:8/10
###Agility:8/10
###Characters:9/10
###Acting and directing: 8/10
This show is shaping up to be a goodie, a must-watch.
Absolutely brilliant. An absolute MUST for any Princess Bride fan, and the casting of Miracle Max could not have been more perfect.
The Brits* conquer the west! Such a good limited series. My only expectation, as I began watching this series, was that it was a western and a friend had recommended it. All the movie posters were iconic silhouettes of the genre. But, my expectations (delight and appreciation) raised exponentially as the casting revealed itself, beginning with Sam Waterston (as the Marshal), then Michelle Dockery* (Alice), Tantoo Cardinal (Iyavl), Jack O'Connell* (Roy), Thomas Brodie-Sangster* (Whitey), Jeff Daniels (Frank) and finally Kim Coates sealed the deal. All the acting felt very authentic and appropriate and the imported* talent did well to speak American (although, I'm told, the Americans speaking Norwegian? Not so good). The storytelling was well executed, the production values high, the direction was solid (except someone forgot to do a body count in the last episode - of the 30 men at least 50 of them were shot dead) . I give this series an appreciative 9 (superb) out of 10. [Western] (In case you didn't catch it the * behind a name indicated British actors.)
The first two episodes were really good. I hope they are able to keep the momentum up. I'll withhold judgement until the season finale.
Ryan Eggold needs a good show right now. So i'm rootin' for him.
I'm not usually into musical type of shows but I cant get enough of this one.
Really amazing show, love all the songs.
The diversity in this cast just works. I did not think I would like it because I was not a fan of Ryan Eggold but I love him in this role.
This series was uneven. I had a bit of a love hate relationship with it. I was annoyed with how it was written to be Canada but the writers obviously knew nothing about Canada, Canadians or our societal norms, which in turn put the premise, the relationships, the pivotable conflict with "big oil" and pretty much everything at risk. So my first struggle was to suspend disbelief and pretend it to be some foreign country that has all the physical majesty of Canada but is only coincidentally called Canada. The acting is tremendous. The pace is patchy and it's telling of episodes back to front drags things out and we can see the "twists" coming a mile away. The last episode of season 1 is absolutely redemptive. So, there you go, overall the episodes are 7 (good) and 6 (fair) but the last episode of season 1 is a 9 (superb), so I will settle my rating for the whole season being an 7.3 (great moments) out of 10. It has earned the second season a trial, at least. [Cop/Crime Drama]
Stop watching this show, it is racist two references tonight on this show against whites and I am offended. If white people said what the blacks say in this show the blacks would be up in arms. Stop the racism on shows !!!!!!
What an absolute amazing series this was. The acting was stellar, it wasnt glorified, it didnt have that Hollywood exaggeration to it at all. The story, I know, is based on real events but felt real, it felt plausible. It was immersive, scary, and really exposes the human condition our current world is suffering from...once again... greed, self-importance, and power mongering.
One of the most creative, fun, smart and original shows to have graced our TV (or computer) screens this year. In a time of dreadful sequels, prequels and remakes, this fine collection of 13 exquisite episodes was as refreshing as it can get.
I recommend this show to:
- bored sci-fi nerds
- Democrats
- Democrats in the company of their Republican buddies
- sakura enthusiasts
- members of The MEW's Gams Appreciation Society
This show did a very, very good job at evenly depicting character progression. From Jack Ryan himself, to the antagonist and his family, to someone even as simple as the drone pilot. Well developed, written and portrayed storyline. Easy to watch, hard to stop.
After its podcast mega hit The Daily, The Weekly is an attempt by the NYT to expand its media portfolio.
While The Daily has an emphasis on significant news stories, The Weekly takes a 25 minute look at a piece of investigative journalism by letting reporters take us behind the story.
I'm not entirely sure the show achieves that "behind the scenes" feeling that the podcast hits. The Weekly looks at pretty significant stories but the tone of its episodes ranges from the opinion piece to the factual story. They're also pretty unequal in their quality.
Overall, I see the show as a good way to approach stories you might have missed, and gauge your interest in researching them further.
I just don't do medical dramas at all.
Or at least I didn't until now.
Great acting and great but diverse characters.
This is an outstanding show. I haven't been so engrossed in a show straight from the pilot in a long time.
Hospital dramas aren't my usual forte, I picked it up after a recommendation from my daughter and from following Ryan Eggold in The Blacklist and loved it.
The whole cast is excellent - all very different and highly complex.
This show is great if you take it as seriously as the writers of the show do. It's stupid and it's supposed to be. It ends up being hysterical and a lot of fun to watch. We don't have too many silly shows airing now that are enjoyable to watch, but this is one.
The first five episodes are useless, boring, soapy, unrealistic drama about the life of each crew’s member of the first mission to Mars. To make things worse they even allow real time communication at millions of kilometres of distance, keeping the useless, boring, soapy, unrealistic drama, not considering the lag caused by the speed of light, the maximum achievable.
On the second half of the season it switches completely. Suddenly (literally) it isn’t possible to have interactive communications. The lag, which would have always been there, increasing from seconds to minutes, has been turned on. And thanks to this the focus has been finally moved principally to the mission and we can watch a decent SciFi show, although not brilliant.
I’d suggest to skip the first 5 episodes altogether, if it wasn’t unreasonable. Just swallow them and enjoy the second half.
just finished binging 2 seasons and wow i have no words to describe how amazing, funny, accurate, relatable and at the same time awkward as hell this show is. 12/10 please give it a shot, dont let it rot in your watchlist
Why even write something about it?
Those who hate it, too, will probably agree, those who like it may call me a disgruntled Trekkie. What the heck, I've been called worse.
I've endured the Abramsverse, Discovery, and Picard but this is where Star Trek dies.
