Little Monsters you can't stay
I don't want to see your little claws
I don't want to hear you little roars
Little Monsters go away
Come back and see me in the day
We can have a little party
and eat cake and tea and play
But we all must get a proper sleep
So, little monsters, please go away!
What a dumb fun and heart-warming zombie flick! You just can't shake it off.:guitar: It's up there with the likes of Shaun of the Dead, Fido, Zombieland, and Warm Bodies. Oh, and Left 4 Dead 2 makes an appearance. :zombie::heartpulse:
We have a good Annie Wilkes here. Her daughter, Joy, is reminding me that I need to stop slacking and do my Inktober drawings, hah. :pen_ballpoint: I'm pretty glad that there's a character like Joy for the Misery story this season. With the dark, there needs to be a bright side to balance it out.
Only one episode in, there's already some visual references to Salem's Lot and Shawshank Redemption and of course the show's title, Castle Rock. The hospital scenes were actually filmed in a town away from where I'm located IRL too.
I'm already making predictions now, and I hope that Joy survives this story and somehow escapes her mother by the end of the season. I'm not yet convinced that she's her biological mother either which would add to reasons to why Joy should run. We'll see how it goes.
This is a decent web series based on existing properties. It reminds of the Mortal Kombat web series and some of the shows that would air on Fox and WB back in the 90s in the afternoon like Mortal Kombat: Conquest, Hercules, and Xena. The costume designs are pretty cool, and choreography is pretty good, sprinkle a little comedy bits in there. Jason David Frank as Bloodshot was probably the highlight for me in the first three episodes. I hope they do a season two and feature the other character in the Valient universe, Rai.
I like the takes on Stranger Things and The Shape of Water for this year's Treehouse of Horror XXX; quite fitting to do The Omen with this being the 666th episode too. Though I think "Danger Things" should be done episodically based on each season of Stranger Things
Raise your arms up
Together like a triangle
Out like an offering
Fly like a plane
Hoo man, that tea scene though! :tea:
I also noticed the daughter was wearing a shirt that had the word Rose on it, which once you've seen this film, you'll know what it refers to.
Wounds is a very slow film about spirits trying to invade the human world through our wounds with use of technology but it mostly focused on drama rather than the horror. In ways, it reminded me a lot of the Japanese film, Kairo (2001) which got remade to Pulse (2006). The effects for the bugs are pretty cool though, and there was a glimpse of Bulletstorm (2011 video game). It was neat to see Zazie Beetz in this after just seeing her appear in Joker and a recent episode of The Twilight Zone. Dakota Johnson I also saw in the new Suspiria and the 50 Shades films. I would definitely recommend Kairo more.
I'm really glad that McKenna wound up back with Trey now. They're so cute together. :two_hearts:
I should've commented about the Jennie sooner, but it was quite strange that they showed flashbacks of Jennie so late in the show that I totally blanked out on Jennie and only vaguely remember her existence like a Mandella Effect or something.
Overall, an okay show in the typical CW style complete with cuties and mediocre acting hah. If they do make a season three, it's gonna be tough sale for me to get back on board this show. I mostly enjoyed seeing the actresses for McKenna/Jennie (Liana Liberato) because she reminds me of someone I really like, and Violet (Haley Ramm). I hope to see more of them in future films/projects. I could see Haley Ramm playing a young Jodie Foster in a prequel to The Silent of the Lambs.
Good to see new relationships with what's happening with Alex. It also happens to be International Lesbian Day today too!
As for old relationships, dang it Trey, why! I feel so sorry for McKenna :broken_heart:
In a situation like that, I would've waited until she was comfortable telling me or until I discover the problem myself. Perhaps she's not being open and honest because she wants to protect him, but they've all been through this before which is the puzzling part. Oh well, that's teen drama for ya.
"Sure, it's an uphill battle but.. Stranger Things have happened"
(Not to go off on a tangent, but was that a reference to that other show that's coming out with a season four where the main cast of kids saving the world would be grown up soon?)
Good to see McKenna and Trey still together :two_hearts:
dang it, I was hoping they'd find some wild Pokemon, maybe a rupee or two..
Pretty wild art style with sketchy outlines which gives the film a unique look; starts off typically with the main character being late for school (like Serena/Usagi from Sailor Moon in the first episode/manga), toast in mouth and all, but this time gets into an accident and finds her way to hell (This part reminded me of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time series which the animated version was also from the Madhouse label). She meets some unusual characters down there in the underworld and finds her origin. There's even a talking cat (at least I think it looks like a cat). I burst out laughing a few times 'cause of the dialogue coming out of the headmaster named Helvis (whose design is basically a devil version of Elvis). It's not for children due to a couple of scenes with brief nudity, but there's a good message about love and positivity within though. Also, this reminds me that I need to watch To Hell And Back.
Oh man, the b-girl dance scene was so good! Even the choice of jams were poppin' ("Situation" is one of my favorites from Yazoo, and the other one "It's Like That" by Run DMC is a classic!) :notes:
And NERDS! those Nerds candies :yum:
I have a really good feeling about this season of The Terror. I'm mostly interested by the bakemono aspect of the story as well as the time it's taking place in. So far, I'm having flashbacks to Takashi Miike's Imprint for the Masters of Horrors anthology series which I still own the DVD of, except the other way around where this time it's the Japanese that go to America. I can't wait to see more! :ghost:
Rocko, we can't live in the past. We can be grateful for it, but life isn't permanent, and if we don't embrace what's now, we miss out on a lot of the important stuff.
Man.. some wise words from Mr. Bighead :sob:
Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling is great! It's as if it never lost touch in the humor and quirkiness of the original show which I used to watch a lot of as a kid as it aired on Nickelodeon in the summer time and even played the video game (rented from Blockbuster)! I wore my Rocko themed shirt as I watched this and giggled along. It's fun to see the characters adapt to the 21s century and advances in technology and trends. A lot of the characters and gags struck my nostalgia bone hard as I'd go "Hey, I remember that!", even the music cues that would sound as a ringtone set off from a character's phone (or O-Phone as they call it in O-Town). The way they handled Ralph (The Bigheads' child) was very well done, and I applaud the team for that. I even caught a smear frame in one point of the film. You don't really see many of these in animation these days, but I guess it depends on the style of animation, and I love that! I hope they make more Rocko in the near future!
haha I like how Huntara (who is voiced by Geena Davis) calls Adora "Blondie" here; mostly because I know someone who goes by the name "Blondie", who is gonna be delighted when she gets to this episode. Now thanks to Huntara, I can't think of anyone else but her when I watch this show..
If only there was a way we could see each other again.. like every day for instance.
hmm maybe in ten years time.. on a Zombie Island perhaps. I watched iZombie since the day it premiered. Much feels in this series finale and nice closure. Looking forward to what Rob Thomas comes up with next!
Thanks for the brains, later zomberinos! :brain: :zombie::zombie: :brain:
What an explosive season! :boom:
I knew something was not quite right when I heard that line in the limerick. It was just a matter of who at that point for me.. But now I'm just left with this sinking sadness :sob::broken_heart:
Thanks Rob Thomas and crew for bringing the show back!
I was surprised by the amount of guest stars and cameos in this episode. Also, quite a coincidence watching this episode today to see Wesley Snipes as news of the new live-action Blade show is just being announced and talked about during SDCC 2019 this week.
Oh man, the last few episodes have been intense and action-packed. I was giggling because the Terminator figure dude tracking the kids down, and the blob monster (The Blob, Back to the Future references run amok) running through the city. My sister and I were cracking up when Dustin and the other kids started singing one of the best 80s karaoke songs ever LOL totally the best season by far! :exploding_head::fireworks:
I finished Stranger Things 3 over the weekend and I have to say, season three is by far the best, and well worth bingeing towards for anyone who is still on the fence about the show. You can do season one and maybe skip season two (aside from the opening and closing episodes), but three is where it all goes down.. especially for the last part in 3 :exploding_head::fireworks:
Rocketeer in the comic book shop, Depeche Mode, a Dune book, and Fright Night poster are just some of the neat touches of 80s in this episode. Though I'm not quite convinced about the Voltron talk. How could they have possibly known about the origin of the Voltron show in that time if their only source of news would just be the television (which you don't see them watching much of), maybe magazines, and/or word of mouth? Kids in the 80s would only briefly chat about how cool a show like Voltron was, how it looked and style, but on average, wouldn't actually know that it was cut from Japanese animated shows. And with that, it would be boys that would talk about that show. I'm not trying to be misogynistic, but that's what a lot of animated shows were like back then, or how we the audience believed to be. Not to mention they're teenagers, which around that age, tend to be interested in more mature things other than cartoons. On another look, the characters seem to talk about what was of that time, but how about older long-running IPs like Godzilla or James Bond. Give it a little more "spacial environment" of the sort of things the characters could be into.
 I, for one, love all the trippy sequences in any film or piece of media. This one is very reminiscent of Terry Gilliam's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998), Enter the Void (2009), and episodes of The Simpsons and Mr. Robot. It has the summer road trip, Las Vegas, drugs, hillucination, and casino scenes. I love the abstract animation segments that's integrated in each of the episodes of the show too. They're what make this show stand out.
We can't change reality. But we can change the way we feel about it.
haha total throwbacks to Risky Business (1983), The Breakfast Club (1985), and Rad (1986), but now we're starting to feel for some of the characters :-(
I saw the Deadly Class trailer back in May of 2018 which screamed Battle Royale so much that I had to check it out back to back with The Umbrella Academy. The soundtrack is singed with 80s rock tunes from the likes of The Cure, Depeche Mode, and New Order to set the gritty tone and era of the show. Personally, I prefer they use the 80s songs more meaningfully and cleverly than just for the sake of them being there. Otherwise, ambient scores fit better for me. Even a cassette player, boombox, and VHS tape of Faces of Death make an appearance. Though some of the dialogue, fashion, and architectural/set design are a little try-hard even for the year 1987. A bunch of bad kids from different backgrounds are recruited to an elite academy that teaches about violence and survival. We follow Marcus, a homeless orphan, fighting his way through life, not really getting along with many of the gangs and bullies at school. I can bet that he'll become friends with some of them later on like what's happening with him and Willie. The two even had a little argument over comic books such as X-Men and Dark Phoenix, haha. After all, Deadly Class is in fact based on a comic book series, so of course they had to throw that reference in there. I really like the pacing so far, at least for this first episode. I hope that continues with the rest the series.
Strike three, monkey fighter!
Did he really say "monkey fighter"? LOL
Diggin' the typical 80s party here; even the episode title seems to be a reference to Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986). Then it's back to murdering and mystery. I remember the Asian girl in the Hulu show, Light As A Feather (2018).
Oh man, this city is just crawling with vampires and werewolves haha, and of so many types! The magic hat gave new dimension to the Lazslo character. I also need to find out the song they used at the end there; really like that kind of melodic pop.
LOL I already love the new characters in this. I take it that Guillermo was created and named after the del Toro the director. The "Energy vampire" is an amusing concept. I recognize one of the LARPing college kids who previously starred in Edge of Seventeen (2016).
The glitter scene(s) were the best! I hope that later we'll get to see cameos of the characters from the movie.
Only three episodes in and so far this show has all the main elements I expect for Swamp Thing. Also, there's a The Lost Boys (1987) poster in a later scene here; look out for it. ;-)
Hopefully they find a way to make more episodes 'cause I sure would love to see more.
