Ok so this episode turned the show 180 degrees. I feel no sorry or empathy for the guy, he is mentally ill and sexually depraved. And to know that HE is the actual real man it make this show very very sick.
The narration is way to much after the first episode.
I saw the movie before when I was still very young and found it extremely funny from start to finish. Not so long ago I showed it to my girlfriend and we both had to laugh a lot.
Hardly any of my friends know this movie, which in my opinion is far too underrated. It was an insider tip of my father at the time.
Definitely value to be watched.
Anyone get the feeling that this is what preceded the events in the Expanse?
The movie is way too unrealistic. No one plugs in a USB cable on the first try.
Nice to see Timothy Olyphant in anything StarWars. I never realized I needed that. Then again Olyphant, should be in everything.
Awesome episode, one of the best.
That was the weakest episode of this season so far.
And I still don't understand why they needed to name a "random recurring character" James Kirk for no apparent reason, since it's obviously not Kirk (they could have called him Jim Carrey).
Coming back from cinema and all i have to say is that is one of the best sequels i have ever watched. It was a unique experience watching this in cinema because everything worked in a perfect way from great directing to a well made script. It will probably make you feel emotional during it's time and you are going for sure to feel the nostalgy.Sorry for my bad English i am not in a perfect level but don't miss this one it's a little bit of a masterpiece.

Having been around for the 1st top gun I was afraid about this one. But it did not disappoint I heard people say it's better than the original... Well it definitely is!! The casting of Rooster is amazing. Also seeing Val Kilmer again brought a tear to my eye. What a movie and the music of Hans Zimmer is epic as always!!
What a great movie! What movies should be like. This needs to be viewed in theaters! Highly recommend.
Now I have seen 2 episodes it's clear that this show is what many Trekkies have been looking for : mystery of the week with some food for thought, camaraderie, some humor and (if it's not to much of a bother) some pew pew flying stuff in space.
Mount, Peck and Romijn hit the ground running in their own spin-off but Gooding as Uhura is amazing. Can't wait for an episode focused on the medical team. Of course I can't help but like Ortegas and La'an, although I see some similarities with a certain Naomi Nagata & Camina Drummer, but I'm certainly not complaining about that.
The special effects are amazing and the writers do an excellent job with giving known characters more depth while still respecting what other writers have done. The way they get Pike's command style smack dab in the middle of Archer and T Kirk is very impressive. Strong characters but with flaws. This is a crew I would actually like to be part of, something that hasn't happened since Enterprise ( Team Trip Tucker all the way )
If they can keep this up I say : "6 seasons and a movie"
excellent series and these writers did a superb job !! they should be doing the writing on the discovery series because the writers doing it now suck.
thank you for an excellent scifi adventure! you all did a great job!!!
Denis Villeneuve is the man!
There’s only one word that came into my mind after watching it: finally.
Finally, a blockbuster that isn’t afraid to be primarily driven by drama and tension, and doesn’t undercut its own tone by throwing in a joke every 30 seconds.
Finally, a blockbuster that puts actual effort in its cinematography, and doesn’t have a bland or calculated colour palette.
Finally, a blockbuster with a story that has actual substance and themes, and doesn’t rely on intertextual references or nostalgia to create a fake sheen of depth.
Finally, a blockbuster that doesn’t pander to China by having big, loud and overblown action sequences, but relies on practical and grounded spectacle instead (it has big sand worms, you really don’t need to throw anything at the screen besides that).
Finally, a blockbuster that actually feels big, because it isn’t primarily shot in close ups, or on a sound stage.
And of course: finally, a blockbuster that isn’t a fucking prequel, sequel, or connected to an already established IP somehow.
(Yeah, I know Tenet did those things as well, but I couldn’t get into that because the characters were so flat and uninteresting).
This just checks all the boxes. An engaging story with subtext, very well set up characters, great acting (like James Gunn, Villeneuve's great at accentuating the strengths of limited actors like Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa), spectecular visuals and art design (desaturated but not in an ugly washed out way), pacing (slow but it never drags), directing, one of Hans Zimmer’s best scores: it’s all here.
I only have one real criticism: there’s too much exposition, especially in the first half.
It can occasionally hold your hand by referencing things that have already been established previously, and some scenes of characters explaining stuff to each other could’ve been conveyed more visually.
Other than that, it’s easily one of the best films of the year.
I’ve seen some people critiquing it for being incomplete, which is true, but this isn’t just a set up for a future film.
It feels like a whole meal, there are pay offs in this, and the characters progress (even if, yes, their arcs are still incomplete).

Hey Fenkins - this is a story already written many years ago by Stephen King. It’s a book. They are doing that because that’s the book. Good vs Evil. Heaven VS Hell. Literally the whole point of the story. You must feel silly.
I do like the show, but it's not Star Trek. If this was just a new sci-fi show that existed in its own universe, it would be incredible. However, the fact that they've tried to pass this off as Star Trek when it's clearly not sullies the experience.
If it wasn't already apparent, Paramount and CBS have no idea what made Star Trek great, and don't care either. The simple explanation is that the world of Star Trek is supposed to be optimistic; this is pessimistic. And I do enjoy pessimistic sci-fi, but there's so much of it, and to see one of the few optimistic sci-fi worlds turned into something pessimistic is a shame.
Fortunately, we now have The Orville, which is doing Star Trek better than anything has since Voyager ended in 2001.
The show is supposed to take place between Enterprise and TOS, but the technology is very different. For example, there are holograms everywhere. Why try to do a prequel again? Why not set this after Voyager? That would make a lot more sense, and they'd be able to add whatever technology they like, and not be constrained by existing continuity. Fortunately, it's not too late for the showrunners to say "hey, we made a mistake, this actually takes place X years after Voyager".
Last, they fucked up the Klingons. For almost 25 years, they had the look of the Klingons figured out perfectly. They're iconic. But this show (and the reboot movies) messed them up and made them look like generic sci-fi bad guys. What happened to their hair and beards? Also, the costumes are ridiculous, and their ship interiors look like they're made of coral. I do like the idea of having an albino Klingon though.
And I applaud their desire to use the Klingon language on the show, but it's pretty annoying having every Klingon scene subtitled. The previous shows used a common sci-fi conceit: the actors speak a language that the audience understands, but it's accepted that they're really speaking a different language. The viewer effectively has a universal translator so they can understand what's being said.
Also, it looks nothing like Star Trek. Once again, The Orville got that right, and this didn't.
All of that said, I do like the show. The characters are interesting (especially Doug Jones), I've enjoyed each episode, and I think the storyline is pretty interesting. But goddamn it, why did they have to try to make this Star Trek when it's not?
Is it really nescessary they put all this crap in the show? Can't they just make it the way it used to be? About science, anomalies, real space adventure with tons of mindblowing enigmas and riddles and problems to solve...instead of this soap drama. This season is so bad. What is this shit.
Sorry for the language.
Man, there's too much drama in every single episode, everybody is constantly crying for every minor thing, it's exhausting.
The “almost showing the detective” thing is getting old!
Who watched this after the Coronavirus?
Now this is entertainment!! - If you love mystery, sci-fi, and non stop action, then this is the show for you. Parts remind me of Blade Runner and Total Recall. If you like this sort of thing then check you 'Expanse' also. I binged watched this, and can't want for a second season.
I've had an amazing experience watching the movie premiere in Venice, I've been waiting for this movie for a long time and I was not disappointed in the slightest.
It's a gorgeous movie, it's disturbing but moving at the same time, violent at times, but also subtle. It's a different and fresh spin on the character and on the cinecomic genre as a whole and Phoenix delivers an amazing performance portraying a version of the Joker we've never seen before, he's not the villain of someone else's story, he is the hero and villain of HIS own story, and the audience can be orrified by him, but we can't help but feel for him at times.
Without giving anything away I would recommend to go and see the movie not expecting to go and see an action packed, but gritty cinecomic, I suggest going in and watch it pretending that it's not even about a famous comic villain, but simply a movie, I think that people will appreciate it more in that way, not comparing it to the cinecomics we've seen before, but thinking of it as a normal movie.
P.S.: People will of course compare Phoenix to Ledger, I don't think it's possible, they give a totally different percormance because they portray totally different versions of the character, and I think it's going to be hard to compare them, you either prefere Ledger's version or Phoenix's but only based on the character, the actor's performances cannot be judged by comparison, they're both great. Just enjoy the movie
What an experience! It was magnificent and really powerful. Brilliant lead actor.
Astonishing performance. It’s a really good movie and worth watching if you are both a fan and a movie lover.
The Chernobyl disaster is something that has always been of interest to me. Even though this is a dramatization not a documentary, it seems to be striving for accuracy and realism in its depiction of the event. I watch a lot of Horror and I'm probably desensitized by that frequency. But this episode had my heart thumping as the plant workers and firefighters fought the disastrous explosion. It's scarier than any Horror film that I've seen in a long time.
This episode did a great job of recreating '80s Soviet Union Pripyat. The architecture and styles looked accurate. The most stunning recreation was the stifling bureaucracy and buck-passing that was no doubt present in the Soviet socialist state. So many layers of supervision. So many organizations and titles. This episode appears to accurately portray the dismal, incentive-sucking grind that citizens of a communist society experienced.
When Episode VIII is released, the Star Wars franchise will have spanned a period of forty years. I'm glad that the Star Trek motion picture franchise was compressed in comparison, though the Star Trek universe has already existed for fifty years. Aside from both being set in space, there really is no comparison except for my love of both with Star Trek being responsible for my career choice in computer technology. I also remember standing in the long line to see Star Wars in 1977 and again in 1979 for Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Space, the final frontier...A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
Haha, LOL. never had so much fun this movie GOTTA SEE! i mean Will is amazing. must see.
Eddie Murphy at its peak. "I I I I I I WANT THE KNIFE". Charles Dance is the bad again and I still entertaining
