This is just a mix of the most predictable Hollywood clichés ever. Don't waste your time.
Total waste of time. complete garbage. He watched movies that were and still are very good at the time, but he stole them without understanding anything. He said he would put on some cool scenes. the editing sucks. The scenes have nothing to do with each other. Motivations are meaningless. The audience has no idea what's happening and why. Suddenly they got excited and set off. Since all the scenes are stolen from other movies, they have no connection with each other and look ridiculous. The acting is also extremely bad. The lead character plays extremely cheesy. The action scenes are also garbage. No matter how you hold it, it stays in your hand. I give 1 point. And that's because some images look good.
Star Wars + The Seven Samurai + just a dash of Warhammer 40k = this derivative waste of time and money. Snyder should never be allowed to write another script ever.
a movie made only for Zack Snyder cult followers
Zack Snyder's latest foray into creating his own cinematic universe presents itself as an ambitious attempt to amalgamate elements of Vikings, fantasy, mythology, Native Americans and science fiction. However, this cinematic approach is marred by a number of challenges that hinder its enjoyment.
From the outset, the film struggles to hold the viewer's attention, stretching out footage that can feel like triple time. The narrative seems disjointed, as if it is a series of disparate ideas thrown together without a clear thread. This contributes to the experience feeling fragmented and disjointed, as if we are witnessing a series of disconnected scenes rather than a coherent plot.
The lack of cohesion is also reflected in the obvious references to other franchises, such as Star Wars, Warhammer and Firefly, which seem to be integrated without the necessary care to make them their own. Instead of bringing originality, these influences sometimes leave a sense of a pastiche that fails to find its own narrative voice.
The decaffeinated treatment of violence and the insistence on avoiding the appearance of blood for the sake of an age rating may have deprived the film of the intensity and realism it could have brought. This decision may be perceived as an effort to appeal to a wider audience, but it leaves the story feeling lacking in risk and depth.
The CGI, which in Snyder's previous films has been a prominent element, disappoints in Rebel Moon. The computer-generated imagery lacks the same striking quality we have come to expect from the director, sometimes resulting in visual effects that fail to integrate convincingly into the world he is trying to create.
The fight choreography is also disappointing, offering sequences that lack the expected fluidity and impact. This crucial aspect of an action film is overshadowed by directorial choices that fail to convey the intensity and emotion that they should.
In addition, the overuse of slow motion becomes an element that exhausts the viewer. Its constant appearance, for every action and event, contributes to slowing down the pace of the film and can come to feel like an exhausting visual resource rather than an effective means of highlighting key moments.
I'm not going to lie, I wasn't able to finish watching it. Snyder's worst in a long time.
A really, really terrible Movie. It seems as if an AI wrote the script and mixed all the successful films of every genre.
Then there are the terrible sets, effects from the 90s and the usual idiosyncratic Netflix look.
This is not SciFi, not fantasy and not action. A new genre like “cheap AI” is needed.
I will never watch the second part and recommend that everyone not watch this part either.
Heartless Waste of time
CGI 7/10
Acting 4/10
Story 2/10
I was very disappointed
Visually was not good. Right from the beginning you get the feeling that the plot is just "inspired" by other popular franchises without bringing anything original to the table at all.
I'm just glad i didn't know this was directed by snyder until afterwards. its a personal confirmation that his movies are just bad and i'm not just being biased...
Zero original ideas, hideous characters, unspiring action scenes. A complete Star Wars ripoff written on a toilette paper sheet.
How in the hell did they think this is a movie worth filming and publishing :joy: This looked like a parody of every fantasy/ sci-fi movie smush together :joy:
I could write a lot about why this film is awful but I can't be bothered to waste my breath after sitting through this
Worst film of 2023.
Derivative, brainless, and soulless. The only redeeming quality of the movie is that it won't kill your dog
It’s like Netflix approached Zack Snyder to make his own “Everything Everywhere All At Once (2023), so he wrote down “every thing, every great scene, from every where, every great movie, and make it all happen at once”.
I have never seen anything so unoriginal. That steals so blatantly all the great scenes and great shots from every great movie. Based around the plot from 7 Samurai, one of the greatest movie plots. And all of it was done so terribly it’s just beyond difficult to watch.
Within the first few minutes the main character is doing a really awkward and long monologue to explain plot points. Then later on in the movie she does an even longer one but at least this longer one later on is done over visuals of the events.
The acting is terrible from everyone. The script writing is terrible. The direction & production couldn’t be worse.
And there’s apparently an R rated version coming plus a part 2? Pass. I don’t hate myself that much.
“Directed by Zack Snyder” is now a massive warning sign.
I didn't believe the reviews that it's crap and had hopes that maybe there is a new interesting sci-fi franchise being born (finally, right?). But my oh my! It is a pile of crap indeed, unfortunately.
The story itself is very "second hand", fights are weak and not believable, ears of the Star Wars & Dune are sticking out from everywhere, and - oh my freaking god - so much pathos in slow-mo it's unbearable. I don't know how they didn't eat soup in slow-mo too.
Oh yeah, and don't worry he didn't forget woke agenda too. The main protagonist is a very strong female lead, the party is very inclusive and all the bad guys are white men. We're good on that side.
Can't wait for the second part! (nope)
A movie with significant potential, it could have been something extraordinary, but ended up being nothing more than a colossal mess. The story is scattered, and as a result, the movie struggles to establish its identity. I mean, what is the genre? Sci-Fi? Action? Drama? Western? Fantasy? Historical? Each of these genres demands a different style of storytelling, making it challenging to blend them seamlessly, let alone execute it well.
In terms of acting, Sofia Boutella did her best given the circumstances and the limited opportunities the story provided. However, even with well-executed visuals, some poorly written movies can be salvaged. Unfortunately, this one fails miserably in that aspect as well. The CGI is subpar, appearing cheap and blatantly obvious. Certain old Syfy shows have done a far superior job in this regard.
Oh, and before watching this movie, I was always conflicted when deciding what is worse during an action scene: the overuse of slow motion or too many cuts. Now I know. Using slow motion in EVERY action scene just ruins the dynamic of the mostly well-performed acts.
30 minutes are enough, won't be able to go for more, such a collection clichés, be they for characters or plot. And visually so so cheap. If it's the new star wars we're doomed!
That was really, really bad. It felt like it was written by a kid.
Also, can I ask... when Nemesis is fighting the spider thing, why is everyone standing around twiddling their thumbs for what felt like forever... they had guns
It's good that the streaming services exist. I would be ashamed to physically own a movie like this.
People are starved for good movies and are putting their hopes in the skills of some bellow mediocre directors. And here we have the results.
There is a reason why this was dropped even by Disney Star Wars.
The whole movie is a meh. I could sleep through segments of it, and it wouldn't affect the story one bit.
Sadly, got through it all wide awake.
About at half of the movie, I started to force myself to power through to the end,
but not one unpredictable thing happened during the entire runtime.
The real problem begins when you try to deconstruct it scene by scene.
If you begin finding all that is wrong with it, you cannot stop, and it takes a review longer that the script of the movie...
From bad script (felt like patchwork), stiff dialog, lousy characters, bad acting, bad accents, predictable tropes and stereotypes,
to the terrible by-the-book directing with fight slow-mos and quick cuts.
The CGI ranges from OK to terrible, but even practical effects are bad and look cheap, not to mention the costumes that look so anachronistic and out of touch.
If you have free time to spend, dont watch this, instead watch again the original source movies.
Bottom line, and the biggest problem with this movie is that there was nothing good that caught my eye.
It is one of those movies that you watch maybe once and never again.
More garbage from Zaddy, this is a modern blueprint for what not to do when you’re making operatic sci-fi/fantasy. You could point at the obvious issues, such as the worldbuilding and story ripping off every other property in existence without putting much of its own spin on it (Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Dune, Harry Potter, Mad Max, Excalibur, Seven Samurai, The Matrix to only name a few), but that doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of what’s wrong here. Snyder’s often praised for being this great visual stylist, but with Rebel Moon he might just deliver his most poorly directed film. Multiple shots are out of focus, the score is really manipulative and overblown, the staging of the action feels amateurish, there’s often a lack of proper depth of field (it kinda feels like those Star Wars shows on D+ due to the poor use of the volume stages) and he’s generally wanking off way too much with all the slo-mo here. Moreover, this has one of the worst scripts of the year due to all of the cheesy, overwitten dialogue and ridiculous amounts of exposition. It’s very hard to find a scene in this where the presentation and writing are somewhat organic or manage to create meaning in a way that feels artistically instinctual. Instead, it’s this lifeless mismatch of stale ideas. Add to that the fact that Snyder doesn’t know how to emphasize the strengths of the limited performers he’s working with here (besides Hounsou and Hopkins, who can handle themselves regardless of the director), and you can only conclude that Disney made the right decision by rejecting this.
1.5/10
Verification that incredible creativity, great sets, a bucket list of famous people and great actors doesn't always make a great movie. You still need a good story to tell
Archetypal in everything. It doesn't bring a single novelty
nooooooooo nononono! no.
Reminiscent of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, this is all eye-candy & no substance.
I can see where it had potential, but utterly fails to land it.
Feels a little like a.... "Asian cargo-cult flick"(?) : blockbuster made in Asia with an eye on a what they think would appeal to western audience, and utterly failing either.
Would be easy to blame it on the bad dub, but even that does not account for the inability to make any sort of connection to any of the shallowly stereotypical archetype characters.
If they actually die in the end in an act of heroic sacrifice, that would've at least have been some redemptive conclusion - without a hope for a sequel.
I think there could be something interesting still buried in there; maybe in a fan-edit.
If I was stoned out of my gord, maybe in the background.
For a better time, watch Space Truckers.
Good candidate for a Razzie
Other than decent CGI, this movie lacks in every other aspect. Convoluted plot, check. TERRIBLE acting, check. Unlikeable main characters, check. Non-existent soundtrack, check. Lame bad guy with even lamer downfall, check. Humorless, check. Stupid ending, check. Predictable plot-twists, check. Overly dramatic acting, check.
This might be awesome in Korea, but for a mainstream movie in the US, it's total 'space' garbage.
One of the most heart wrenching movies I've ever seen. The fact that this is based on real life saddens me to my core. Humans can be so fucking cruel sometimes. My heart goes out to the families who suffered from this horrible tragedy. As a human being we Must see this to realize how awfully privileged we are. That last video recording broke me. Please watch this tremendous movie.
[Netflix] Adam McKay takes advantage of the apocalyptic genre to craft a satire more focused on political criticism of the United States. A one-way vision that comes from an original idea by Bernie Sanders 'speechwriter in the 2020 campaign. But the cartoonish trend brings this movie closer to "Hot shots" (1991) and all those goofy parodies produced in 90's that to a more clever satire on the imbecility of humanity.
Was looking forward to this seeing who was starring.
Excellent idea for a film but turned into a farcical tale.
Avoid.
American comedy at its worse.
Everything is a joke, even this movie.
The satire is hit and miss, and the hits are not really saying anything profound. Who knew social media is trash? Thanks. The first half was adequate in some ways but also unfunny. In fact I didn't didn't laugh once at the whole movie.
Second half looked better until the political commentary. It was very obvious who the bad guys would be. Yes it's the gun and money loving deniers who wear hats. Enter Perlman's character who's ''out of touch'' and says bad things. That's the level of comedy in this. Add Jonah doing his usual pathetic character and Lawrence with a snarky edgy woman. The good? Dicaprio. And considering the different elements of the movie (disaster and comedy) the tone worked.
It wasn't reasoned at all. Near the end of the movie why don't certain characters spend their time elsewhere instead of having dinner with non family? Do they have nobody else? Is Peter Isherwell's character based on Jordan Peterson? Where were the UN (isn't this a global crisis?) The days of USA saving the world in movies needs to end...
The irony is that it attacks sheep yet is for another set of sheep. It also adds to the modern era of useless social media political fighting, as people take sides. I'd like a satire to rise above this.
