I knew that quite a few people had complained about the realism in this movie even though it hold high ratings on most movie sites. I was hoping that the complaints were mostly nitpicking like wrong model of Sherman tank and such like. Well, I am afraid that it was a bit more than that. I would say that this movie is clearly written by some Hollywood writer sitting in his comfy chair and never ever having been close to any military activities, not to mention live action, in his life.
I can live with a movie being inaccurate or somewhat unrealistic if the rest of the movie is good but I have to say that I did not really like the movie even after trying to filter out the unrealistic nonsense.
The movie is very dark and gritty and there are really no likeable characters in it whatsoever. Well, the clerk that got thrown in as a tank machinegun gunner was perhaps somewhat likable but then him getting assigned as a tank machinegun gunner in the first place was one of those nonsensical bits. In this movie the “heroes” are not really any better than the Nazis. The scene where “Wardaddy” forces previously mentioned clerk to shoot an unarmed POW is just disgusting. I am sure this is not too far from reality in some cases during the war but I’ll be damned if I am watching a movie to be entertained by it.
Having said that I must also say that the movie was very well done in terms of acting and cinematography with one exception. The ridiculous overuse of tracer bullet effects. Tracer bullets do not look like you are in a Star Wars movie and yes I have been using tracer bullets during my military service, obviously unlike the producer and consultants (if they had any) of this movie.
The pacing of the movie was somewhat uneven. Some of it was fairly fast paced but then some parts, like the part in the apartment of the two German women was quite slow and somewhat dull.
The “last stand” at the end was just silly and nonsensical. It started pretty much right away when the poor clerk spots the arriving German infantry just using his eyes. Then it just takes forever until they actually arrive so our “heroes” have all the time in the world to prepare. There would of course be no way for a lone Sherman to hold off an assault like that and the Germans would of course not be charging around shooting useless fine caliber weaponry against said Sherman. Also when they had all this time to prepare why the f… did they leave some of the ammo outside the tank? Obviously because some dumb scriptwriter thought it would make for a good scene. And do not get me started on the fact that the Germans apparently just stops in their tracks every time the director thinks it is time for some slow scene inside the tank.
The ending? Well I do not like bad endings and this one certainly did not give me any feeling of reward for having suffered through over two hours of this movie. Needless to say I am a tad disappointed.
This movie was a huge disappointment! The only positive thing I can say about it is that the special effects where not half bad. The movie itself was childish, unfunny, unintelligent and generally really bad.
Some reviews giving this movie 9 or 10 stars (which is just ludicrous) are saying that people cannot handle the feminism in the movie. What feminism? Replacing the original actors with women is not feminism as far as I am concerned and anyway, if you care about such things should it not have been two women and two men to be politically correct? Also, the supposedly intelligent women in this movie behave in a typical old-fashioned Hollywood stereotype of women way. They are mostly downright silly. If I were a feminist I would actually have been insulted by this movie.
Then we have the male clerk that is dummer than a piece of rock. If someone had stacked four supposedly intelligent men and a single blond bimbo that is totally devoid of any trace of intelligence together in a movie the social justice warriors would have cried foul so loud that you could hear it across the planet. But since it is four women and a stupid male it is okay (not really). It is even feminism according to some people. What a load of bollocks.
There is actually a story in the movie although it is well hidden under the silly jokes and silly behavior. It is paper thin and rather silly in itself but it could have worked if the rest of the movie was up to snuff but sadly it is not.
As I wrote above the only good thing about this movie is the special effects. The few scenes that I actually enjoyed was during the big shoot out at the end which had some cool moments. I especially liked when Jillian pulls a pair of pistols out of her Ghostbuster suit and goes on a ghost killing spray.
Apart from that this movie is best forgotten
I can't believe most comments are people whining, ... Who cares, It was a Sci-Fi Movie people, get a grip.
If you don't like that particular type of Genre, Then why have you bothered watching it for ?.
(I guess Curiosity isn't your strong point)
Personally, I'm most certainly a Space Cadet, I live for the Stars and what's out there!... I Thought this Film was a Great piece, It's best Watched it with an Ambient lighting and 3D.
As long as I'm still alive by the first Manned Mars Landing, I'll be happy to leave this Earth, Though It's not always the same sharing moments when single.
I guess I've got my work cut out for me!
Visuals: 10/10
Story: 8/10
Soundtrack: 8/10
Overall: 8/10
If you have any experience in IT don't watch this movie. It's on the level of Independence Day ending.
Horrible show. I've watched 6 episodes and I found the show to be very shallow. It's just Brian under NZT solving cases and people being amazed because he can do everything.
This was, by far, the most annoying episode in this show. But I mean it in a positive way - the emotions they created were so easily to relate to.
An incredible movie on an emotional plan, but flat and uninteresting concerning the storyline (superficials characters,...), although great actors.
Un film incroyable sur le plan émotionnel, mais plat et inintéressant sur le plan de l'histoire (personnages superficiels,...) malgré de bons acteurs.
A very original fairy tale. The unique animation might be off-putting for some, but it is something that makes the movie all the more magical. This is a lovely work of art for both young and old.
If this were a book, it would go in the Did Not Finish pile.
My favorite episode so far. Yes, I'm one of those strange people who considered "Fly" to be the best episode of Breaking Bad!
I'm impressed by how much story telling and character development they manage to pack into each hour.
And superb acting by "Homer".
Well, the first thing I want to say is I that I’ve seen „Infernal Affairs” before this movie, so I will draw comparisons.
American remakes of international cinema hits are often a disaster, so I have to credit to Scorsese. The cast is very strong (Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin,..), the acting is definitely one of the movies strong points.
The story is more or less the same as in „Infernal Affairs”. You still have your undercover cop and your undercover gangster and the game of cat-and-mouse. It just takes place in Boston instead of Hong Kong.
My biggest issue with “The Departed” is its length. “Infernal Affairs” is a tighter movie, you’ll see the credits after 101 minutes. “The Departed” needs 151 minutes, nearly an hour longer.
What does the additional 50 minutes get you? An irrelevant love triangle (Damon’s GF and DiCaprio’s therapist are two different characters in IA), an inferior ending (the bad must be punished..) and unnecessary new characters (Alec Baldwin e.g.).
In IA Chan (the equivalent to DiCaprio character) is undercover for 3 years, in TD only for one. The whole concept with his therapist is a lot more believable. The two main characters meet very early, without knowing about each other. They’re both present in the same location more often, which helps to get the view more involved.
TD wastes too much time for little things. The gangsters are just evil, they’re brutal and harass women, so everyone understands who the bad guys are. And I don’t remember seeing so much blood in the original movie. IA concentrated on the matter and is not distracted by such things.
You’ve probably guessed by now that I like IA quite a lot more. It’s more compact, the characters are better and the visuals are better.
I gave IA 9/10 and will give TD a 6/10. It’s an enjoyable movie (probably even more if you haven’t seen the original), but if you’re not afraid of Asian cinema, do yourself the favour and what IA instead or at least before TD.
By the way, IA is a trilogy. Infernal Affairs II is a prequel and develops the characters back story even further. The third one is half prequel, half sequel and gives closure to the whole story.
Oliver himself maintains that bashing Trump is easy, but what he did with fervor, in a remarkably thinking way, was to delve into how Trump does not think, where he gets information from, and what he does with it. Very Chomsky.
Just finished watching... I'm honestly so sad
Seriously scary stuff...
Not for the faint of heart
The story and its secrets aren't anything special by all means. But the performances from Strahovski and Brody are. She certainly is ripe to play lead characters in greater movies.
My grandparents were children living in Berlin, Germany during World War 2 and remembered the air raids vividly, as well as the terror that accompanied cowering in the basement and feeling the earth rumble, fearing for their lifes, while houses right down the street where bombed to bits.
When I told them about this movie in 2004, they had to go see it and I was eager to hear what they thought. They are usually jovial and upbeat, but they felt great sorrow and despair when they saw this movie. They cried in the movie theater. It was not just a movie to them, they travelled back in time to a long forgotten and repressed time.
I thought this movie was very well made and Bruno Ganz acts frighteningly well as Adolf Hitler, but seeing how my grandparents reacted, I think this movie is also a beacon to let people remember the terror that came with war, and those that were not born yet, to get a small glimpse into that reality.
9/10 - Edge-of-the-seat atmosphere, combined with a tour de force by Bruno Ganz makes this one a winner
The least terrible, of the three Winnetou remakes. Still a lackluster experience, with several loopholes in the story and as unrealistic about the native Americans, as the movies from the 60s. Oh, and it has pretty much nothing to do with Karl May's novels.
As far as romantic comedies go, The Longest Ride is above average. Yes, it still delivers the cliche story in a predictable manner with a lust-less ending and a boring climax, but it maintains enough integrity to be seen without regret.
His best film yet. Is it exaggerated and manipulative? Yes, it's Michael Moore. What did you expect. However, he always does this to make a point that most Americans are too dense (or blinded by the idea of American exceptionalism) to get. We were once exceptional and he makes that point too. These ideas were originally American ideas. Yes, Europe has a better quality of life and we could too. As someone who has lived both places, but is American, I want us to have a better quality of life. I came back to America because I believed in this country. It's clear from this film that Moore does too.
I not surprised she hated it - Dick van Dyke's "cockernee" accent was horrendous!
Intense. But the ending seems a bit disconnected.
The only movie which I'd want to rate with more than 10 points.
Terrible show you want so badly to be good. The writing is so lazy and cheap. Cliffhanger tactics to keep people watching.
If this is anything like The Good Wife then we are in for a hell of a series, can't wait!
I loved the first 3 Bourne movies, so I was inclined to see this new series. It wasn't bad, the action was great in some parts; the plot, while confusing at first, made sense later and was intriguing; the acting was believable. But it just wasn't the same Bourne. Still a good watch though.
I had no idea what a great movie this would be. Or how good Anton Yelchin actually (already) was, as an actor.
This is the best romantic movie that I've seen in several years, with incredible dialogues. It is so rich, in so many ways, combining wisdom, life experience and humor. Nothing but love for this one.
Characters that didn't have any logic. Annoying rebellious acts for no apparent reasons. "Wise" elder characters who bicker and are useless. Story line was inexcusably weak, character development was pathetic, and it was altogether a bad show. Original Airbender was good, this was not. Teen drama crap.
I was honestly underwhelmed. I love history, Japan and the anthology film format. So Millennium Actress should be perfect for me, logically. In reality nothing about Millennium Actress managed to convince me.
Please don't suck, please don't suck, please don't suck...
