Generic build up in the first half, lacklustre escalation afterwards.
And the villains are just clowns, you couldn't possibly take them serious. Resulting in a movie that you can't take serious.

Nominated for 10 Oscars, winner of 5, this is a motion picture classic, that I was surprised to find, I'd never seen before. A wonderful combination of comedy and bleak humanity, all in a wonderful romance. Jack Lemmon is a master of comedic timing and delivery, but when the plot demands it, he can turn on a dime to dramatic perfection. Shirley MacLean, ever mercurial, convincingly draws us into her character and predicament. Great writing, unexpectedly provocative subject matter, well-developed project. Billy Wilder is a genius. I give this film a 9.5 (splendid) out of 10.

It could not be more predictable, but it works as it is. It is precisely fair.
Holy bejesus, I was not expecting this movie to turn out how it did! I went into it having only read a short plex description and thought this sounds cool.. guy finds uniform.. others start following.. cool.. Then it just went so dark and twisted, my mouth was literally stuck wide open at what unfolded in the camp and afterwards. Then the movie unleashed the best end credits ever.. And then.. i learnt the freaking movie is based off a true story! What!

I'll say right up front that I am not "burdened" (that doesn't feel like the right word) by having an intimate knowledge of the book so my review is not affected positively or negatively by the director's interpretation of the original work. That said.... I really loved it. While the jumping between timelines seemed somewhat arbitrary at first towards the end of the movie it all started to come together. It doesn't always work but when it does (Godfather Two, Once Upon a Time In America, Blue Valentine) the film can take on the feel of an epic. I think this technique gave us the best view of the complex character of Jo, and in the final scenes the struggles of her complex character resulted in a beautiful bloom. While I thought Lady Bird was terribly overrated I thought that Gerwig did a masterful job with this film. It was at different parts funny, touching, sad and hopeful. And as you might expect, the acting is phenomenal.
It's in my top 5 for the year.

Likeable characters, good acting.
But oh my, the US justice system is a complete joke. Pretty much nothing that they debated at court was about the actual case aka deal/handshake.
The movie just keeps digging out unrelated cases of racism on both sides and the end result is an absurd amount of money, that has nothing to do with the damages caused to the plaintiff.

Vince Vaughn is great. Something very different than what he is use to. This movie really slow and it gets us to care for Bradley. Not the action I was expecting in a prison movie. Some really bad practical effects. Seriously they are terrible. You can see they had a small budget. I'm not sure why they even tried to show them, it would of been better to just leave it to our imagination. Overall worth a watch to see Vince Vaughn.
Lots of action. Lots of blown up body parts. Cheesy quips. And nothing else. No purpose. No plausible relationships or motivation. No mystery in how it will end. Not my cup of tea. I give this film a 3 (bad) out of 10. [Expensive Mind-numbing Action]
One of the best racing documentaries I've ever seen.
It does paper over the cracks that he was a sore loser and didn't think twice about taking out an opponent - most notably his turning sharp left or right at the green flag when he was on the front row to block opponents getting past him.
He without a doubt the best F1 driver ever and when he was racing I hated him almost as much as loved him and his fantastic skills. It is great to see the other side of him outside of the media frenzy.
Reading between the lines in the Mick interview, Michael is obviously not very aware or conversational and that's a real pity, I'm sure he's be proud of Mick's rise through the racing landscape to get to the top. 10/10

Yes, there are some (few) relevant changes. But none of them makes this an essentially better movie. Far too many flaws and issues remain.
And most of all, it still doesn't provide much joy or entertainment, especially considering its extreme length now.
The final 15-20 minutes even managed to make this a worse experience. The value of all these tiny bits of previews and introductions didn't surpass generic trailers.
The final minutes managed to appease me, for the most parts of the movie I'd have given a rating of 5 or even 4/10. It's just too often too absurd, wasting time without providing much or anything.
The real question is why the hell did the guy charge money for snacks at the white house?
It was at the point after Eloise enters the first dream sequence, and Sandie descends the mirror lined stairs and dances that I thought "This is so good, I don't even care what happens next!"
Turns out, I did care. It's such a shame to see a movie that could be so brilliant suffer from such a poor and incoherent narrative.
This is a really special movie. It honours the originals and serves as a direct sequel, expanding the lore of their universe and creating new characters that are fun to follow. It feels like an old-style adventure movie of the likes of "The Goonies", "The Sandlot" or "E.T."
The people are so stupid in this film it's amazing, 10/10 for realism

I really adore this movie. I don't really care if it's predictable or not. I laughed and I had a great time.
This is essentially the plot of “The Bélier Family”. Another instance of the time-honored practice of taking a foreign film and making an American version.
Any movie that basically has 1 actor had better be damn compelling... and this was. Clara Ruggard gave an outstanding performance as 'Daughter', raised from an embryo by the maternal robot 'Mother' in a secure bunker, time noted as 'post human extinction'. All is going well with Daughter raised in all manner of STEAM by Mother, becoming a well-rounded young woman on the verge of her 18th birthday. Then Swank as 'Woman' comes a-knockin' and shenanigans ensue. For nerds like me, I enjoyed learning that the robot was NOT CGI, but a carefully custom tailored body suit that gave more dimensionality to an otherwise lifeless form. The plot may be slightly cliche (is this robot truly benevolent? Is the Earth really devoid of all human life?), but still held my attention. Then I sat as the credits rolled and wondered what I just watched (the plot twist take a bit of thought). That's a good sign to me.

I actually disagree with others that knock this; I think it is a feature and not a bug.
The story and plot is very straightforward, familiar, and even overused or seen 100 times before. In her first feature debut, Chloe Okuno takes all of that in stride and makes something great here.
The tension building comes from someone who has been doing this for a long time, score, the lighting, location, camera, etc are all top-notch. Maika Monroe in the leading role does a phenomenal job here and just lets her face and expression tell the whole story.
If you're a fan of atmospheric, thoughtful, and physiological thriller you should really give this a spin! Just remember that flower, sugar, and butter may make a cake, but not all cakes are the same.

You know that feeling when you see a new movie and you feel you have seen everything before?!?
Well...The Secret Life of Pets gives me that feeling in spades. It's not that it looks or sounds bad, it's not that characters aren't funny, but everything feels so damn uninspired...
The voices are the worst offender. Everything sounds the same, and you get the feeling the voice actors were very bored when doing this movie.
The animation gets a pass as it's not bad, but there's a whole lot of movies out there at the moment that does things better.
The story isn't all that good, but at least it wasn't all that boring. I actually laughed out loud at a couple of gags. The thing is...I've seen most of the gags in other movies.
I can't really recommend this one, but if you have someone around you that wants to see it, you won't die from watching it...
Not as funny as it could have been perhaps, and the script needed a little work in parts. Still, Ferrell brings his all to the part, and so does McAdams as his sist...singing partner. I had a smile on my face most of the way through, so I happily recommend it to fans of Ferrell and the actual Eurovision contest alike.
