Guy Ritchie's The Covenant

Lots of action but kind of out of place in a world where he could have just said the word asylum and he would have been in the US in a couple of days

@drow13f He has to reach USA first in order to request that, doesnt work from abroad in his own country

If you're looking for an action and "turn brain off now" film, just don't watch it and spare us the 6-7 hearts review.

I for one, am very tired from 500$m crap like Indi Day and Marvel's poop. So I was very excited to watch this one.

This one is more like Spielberg's Encounters from the Third Kind. It's more about the characters in the film and the amazing journey they go through. It's mostly about the human behavior that will make you think.

While it's not an End of the World aliens movie like Battle: Los Angeles, it still offers great amount of military presence and plenty of stuff that's going on.

So if you actually want to care about an intelligent movie and use your head - go. Otherwise, go watch an X men.

Highly recommended for some audience 10/10.

2-feb-2017 edit: Just came out on Bluray and I saw it again. Definitely keeping my rating.
Watching again at July-2023, excited towards Dune II : Excellent. Excellent film. So called plot-holes listed here are negligible when the overall product is really thoughtful and masterfully crafted.

The laziness of the writers really shines through in this episode. All of a sudden Sen Paley is a counter Intel expert, despite not even realizing he has been a Russian stooge the past 3 months. And of course the little Hacker in Sol's 'secret' group is allowed to chill out in his mums basement leading to a convenient chat with Paley's assistant. So then Paley decides he may as well aid the Russians in their efforts to bring down the Presidency.

Fuck me that is some lazy ass writing.

[9.0/10[ An incredibly tense hour of television. What's so impressive is that Better Call Saul accomplished this despite us knowing that, of course, Jimmy and Gus both survive. It comes down to such fantastic performances from everyone involved. You immediately buy how shaken and terrified Jimmy and Kim are, and how frightened even the normally steady Gus is at the point of Lalo's gun. Vince Gilligan's direction is outstanding, with a Hitchcockian flair for light and shadow that sets the foreboding mood of all these set pieces. And the score does the rest, helping the audience to feel the emotion of these scenes even if we rationally know the fates of several of those at the most risk.

My only mild beef is that Gus' survival feels like a bit of a cheat. It's still not clear to me why he did the gun in the superlab, and the dialogue kind of shrugs at the idea. Even in the dark, it seems like Lalo would have done better against Fring than he did. But details like Fring seeming to make one last desperate ploy to survive, still suffering wounds despite his body armor, and admitting he was over his skiis with this whole thing in the end helps make it passable. On a moment-to-moment basis, the scenes absolutely work, which covers for a lot.

What struck me the most is that closing image -- Howard and Lalo, two very different men, sharing the same fate and the same grave. It's a sign that the barrier between Jimmy's legal life and Saul's criminal life has been firmly shattered. Both lives, both worlds, are bound up in these deaths now, with the psychic weight hanging over Jimmy and Kim for the last five episodes. This never happened, but they, and Mike, will all still have to live with it. I can't wait to see how.

EDIT: If you'd like to read my usual, longer review of the episode, you can find it here -- https://thespool.net/reviews/tv-recap-better-call-saul-season-6-episode-8/

@reborn12008 Hi I never meant to be offensive and i'm sorry if some1 was offended. When i (used to) watch movies like X-men/Transformers etc, that to my opinion just throw shit in my face in form of $$$$ CGI with no story, I feel very underestimated from the film creators.

In this movie I felt like the production is appealing to my intellect and imagination, giving me something to actually think and talk about, imagine what if, or to try and sympathize (or not) with the character's feelings.

If on the other hand, you or anybody else like the gfx and explosions and good ol' good guys killing the bad guys - go right ahead and love X men. You would not love this movie so no point watching it (Like i won't watch x men anymore).
Thats why u gave it 5 . Has nothing to do with smart or dumb.

This is a good movie for me, and I love sci-fi, therefore this one is a 10 by my book.

@mokins there is plenty of information about the movie in its description. I don't want to add anything that will ruin the movie or create false expectations. Therefore, by comparing it to other experiences, people who know the movies I compared it to can relate or unrelate to my review and together with my 3rd paragraph can come to their own best conclusion.
