Interesting. Felt like the movie was a story being told by Martin. I might be tripping, but the only emotions I noticed throughout the movie were very displayatory(if that's a word lol) - haha means funny, tears mean sadness - something a person like Martin can easily replicate and actually understand, unlike other more subtle ones we are used to. Having actors that are known to be "good actors" play so dead pushes this point further for me. But maybe dead actors are just for a part of creepy atmosphere, because the rest of the movie doesn't seem that deep.
I felt the story falls apart about 2/3 in, right after we get the main gist -when the mother started listening to an obviously insane 16 year old, taking everything as absolute truth and playing along with almost the same level of insanity. I get why the little kids get this hysteria, but why the parents who are both doctors think it's all some fucking curse that only affected their kids is beyond me. Use WebMD if you are that bad at your profession ffs. So, is the epilogue painting the whole family insane of just plain dumb? Or is the curse real and just happens to have the same effects as you get when not moving and not eating for a week(which would be kind of a dumb curse)? Either way the last 40+ minutes were pure cringe for me - like screaming at a character of a slasher to not go into the woods without a flashlight but about curses -, which is too bad for a movie that for the first half felt like the best horror I would have seen.
