From the comments here I think people are missing out the idea I think is behind the movie and it's actually a good one.
The level below doesn't exist. I think Goreng died at the bottom and threw the Panna Cotta because the rules of not keeping the food should still apply but didn't, as part of his illusion. The little girl couldn't survive the last level and was too clean for the place, also an illusion.
I think she's the Panna Cotta, which found it's way up and we see it in one of the earlier scenes, where the head chef tried to find whose hair is on the dish.
Goreng thought that his message doesn't need a messenger, that it will be clear - but it was missed. The administration, which I think is a analogy to God which is mentioned a few times in the movie and at every level the question of belief is asked, misses the whole point of it and is clueless to the pain and the suffering of the people below (Imoguiri worked for them, didn't know what the people really go through and thought there are only 250 levels).
They make everyone their favorite food of the highest quality and they probably think it's enough for everyone because each one should get his. The people being people, take more than they should or have to and as a result there's only enough food for the first 50 levels and the familiar hierarchy (the rich take most of the food that can be enough for everyone).
Amazing acting, great action scenes, good movie, but I didn't like the protagonist, he was no antihero, only a villain. This movie was fun to watch but definitely not a masterpiece despite it being a classic in the film industry. I found the character Tony Montana to be a complete idiot, yes, he has courage but his decisions make no sense. I know this movie isn't trying to be realistic but an idiot like Tony Montana would never get as up in the world in real life. He has none of the characteristics that make a great leader except for scaring the hell out of everyone around him. In the end I can only give this a 7/10.
This show is one hell of a contraceptive.
Lovecraftian horror, with a little bit of Clive Barker thrown in, this isn't a bad film, just a little messy at times. In a world of cookie-cutter horror, this is trying to be something a little bit different. With a little more fleshing out of the mythos at the core, this would have been a better film.
Nothing comforts anxiety like a little nostalgia.
If anything, Hollywood has boiled that concept down to a science over the past few years, as this film is basically a summary of everything that’s wrong with the industry in a neat, 148 minute package.
It thinks it’s meta and self-aware by pointing out how cynical and cheap franchise filmmaking is.
That might sound similar set-up as 22 Jump Street, but this film proceeds to be cheap and cynical itself without saying anything substantial beyond its own set up, so it embraces what it’s trying to criticize.
Everything in this movie is structured as an excuse to show stuff you’ve seen before, there are little to no original concepts or ideas that push the franchise in an interesting direction.
It’s mostly a rehash of the first film (mixed with some stuff from Reloaded and Revolutions in the second half), except the action isn’t nearly as good, it’s more predictable and convenient, the performances are nowhere near as memorable (that’s what you get from replacing your 2 best actors), it looks uglier and more synthetic, the pacing isn’t as tight, and it’s a lot more dull because of how much it overexplains itself.
It also ditches the cyberpunk aesthetic, and replaces it with something a lot more bland and boring, stripping the franchise from a lot of its personality.
It’s honestly quite an accomplishment when you think about it: the original is one of the best, most successful, big budget films ever made that still maintained a strong artistic and alternative impulse.
This, on the other hand, couldn’t be any more lowest common denominator if it tried to.
It’s a parody of itself and modern blockbuster filmmaking.
I suppose that was Lana Wachowski’s goal to some extent, but it isn’t very compelling to watch.
3/10
For someone who was born in 2001 and not being able to watch Matrix in theaters this movie has a special meaning to me.
Edit: Never mind this was film was a piece of crap
Oh hi trakt
So for 3 hours of film, we get no more than 10 minutes of sci-fi and everything else is just stupid, boring, annoying human drama with silence and stares into nothingness. This show is not about aliens, it's about cheating husbands, lesbians, school bullies, soldiers far from home, and religious morons. It is so suitable for this network. They did the same thing with "Foundation". A good plot with a big budget, a good cast, and a big pile of rotting crap beneath all of it. It's just like an Apple product.
More of a thriller than horror but it's great. Elisabeth Moss is really good at playing an unstable woman. The action is awesome and shot well. The plot has a few shocking moments.
Cool concept but terrible, terrible writing.
None of the characters behaves in a believable way, it all feels staged (you know those lines that just happen in movies but just don't feel right in real life? Like "there's no time to explain, just follow me" or "we've got company"), even at the beginning at the resort, before the supernatural part kicks in, like a series of scenes almost unrelated one to the other and patched together, each with the precise purpose to stimulate a feeling in the audience or to get the plot ahead. Characters falling as flies like in predictable horror movies.
Some unexplicable sloppy screenplay moments:
The ending was the best and more naturally progressing part of the movie
They should have made one episode out of the first three with less family melodrama and maybe it would have been less of a snoozefest.
Be warned Midsommar is not a horror movie, it's an art film covered in a thin veneer of gore. It is not scary, it's not frightening, just long with a few gross-out gore scenes sprinkled in.
The movie spends most of its run time showing you scenes of people eating, drinking or singing. These are really pretty scenes mind you, the cinematography is on point, but they are also excruciatingly long. The movie could easily be trimmed by 30 minutes without affecting the barebones plot at all.
The horror element is supposed to be the cult rituals but most of them were so absurd that I and the rest of the (few) people in the theater laughed instead. There was especially one scene with a bunch of nude older women that was downright hilarious, although I very much doubt that was the intent.
If singing Swedish people frightens you then this is a must watch, otherwise don't bother.
The real curse is having to watch this show.
Visually impressive. Nothing else is though.
Tries hard to be deeper than it is.
I was excited they finally released the Season 3 of Master of None but after watching 2 full episodes and starting the 3rd I'll just stop.
This ain't Master of None. WTH?! Bring Aziz back! Very disappointed with this one.
This was actually a lot more interesting than I thought it would be. I enjoyed it enough to not feel it was a waste of time and the jump scares got me good. Also, I love it when the moral of the story is "even if you don't believe in the paranormal, don't be disrespectful about it you dumb b*tch" because that's an important message.
Any more pretentious and it would have an art degree.
I meeean...
It was unsettling and gross. But scary? There's nothing scary about this movie. Mainly, the only creepy thing is the dissonant string music. I like horror movies, but more of the subtle, psychological kind. This one was too artsy and pretentious for me.
I guess the takeaway is don't consume weird shit strangers give you. Also, stay away from cults.
Don't waste your time
This is the worst season of True Detective. First two were 10 out of 10 for me, but this one...
I can say only 1 thing: if you have trouble sleeping - this season (any episode) will resolve it immediately.
Just watch first episode and last one, you won't miss a thing.
Cool Concept, too bad the show kinda sucks.
Genuinely good! And considering the limited technology used, this was very unnerving. I haven't seen a good horror movie in a long time, but this changed that. I shall not be using Zoom in the near future!
A big piece of shit, if it had a negative note I would give it.
Pretty damn good for what it is. Jump scares were a nice mix of actual scares versus misdirection scares.
Another great show is going down. Season 4 feels extremely off and it's not just because of the voice of Korvo. I have nothing against Dan Stevens, but this is not his role. I feel disconnected from the character, and everything just sounds wrong. Even if we set aside the voice change, the whole show feels like something completely different from the previous seasons. The script, the acting, the dialog, the jokes, everything is missing in this season. I'm on the fifth episode and not only that I didn't laugh once, but I didn't even smirk or something. The once-engaging storyline is now gone. I'm very disappointed and sad. The very promising future of the show hangs in the balance. I really hope this is just a small misstep in the show's development and they will get back on track next season. If they don't, it's better to cancel the show and not lose all of their fans. I hope the absence of Justin Roiland doesn't ruin Rick and Morty too. I still can't wrap my head around the discission of kicking someone off just because there are allegations against him/her. At least wait for a final result and then take action.
Edit:
Well, I watched the whole thing and I'm even more disappointed. Usually, I'm advocating for profanity in movies, but this is just ridiculous. I feel like they put swear words every minute just so the script is longer. It is never smart. It sounds moronic. And the last episode was absolute garbage.
It's a horrible film. Please don't watch it unless you like horror cult movies that just suck the happiness from you. Not worth the watch. Watch better movies instead.
Liked how they went about introducing it but the actual new voice is not really working for me
If you went to the bargain bin of a roadside truckstop in the middle of nowhere and found a cheap knockoff sci-fi DVD called "I can't believe it isn't Armageddon" this is exactly the movie I'd expect to find on there. Chinese money in a The Asylum style production that make Syfy TV movies look good. Good for a one time watch provided you leave any actual science outside.
