Also the sex scenes are too gross.

@feepiva The sex scenes are supposed to be appalling & nasty. She's literally being taken advantage of and is not in her right mind. Its not supposed to be sensual or good. The show is portraying it in a very negative light. IDK why people are not getting its meant to be gross.
Also yes The Weekend sucks - legit just an embarrassment
Once again, Joe puts on a cap and immediately thinks he is invisible.
Is it just me or or is this whole thing with Nadia really dumb? The way she discovers the cage by seeing a pic of Joe holding that bag from the Indian restaurant, going there and just entering this random abandoned building ... that was really the best that they could do? It just seems so lazy. Also, Nadia is just so annoying and unlikable as a character.
Name a more iconic duo than Joe and his cage
This Joe/Kate romance feels very forced. There is zero chemistry, it's boring and not at all engaging.
I am a bit disappointed by this twist, but i think it'll grow on me.

I came here for this comment. It was so dumb. She broke into Joe's house on a weird feeling and without enough motive. She immediately found the key. At the same moment, she received a bunch of random photos, and again immediately she figured out that she needs to go to that restaurant. There wasn't enough effort on this, and it was enough to ruin this (and the next) episode for me.

- Why is no one discussing the fact that Burak definitely had an accomplice? The first clue should have been the way the door was closed when they reached the room where the victims were kidnapped. After Burak went in, someone obviously locked the door and put all those things behind it.
- I loved how everyone came to help our trio but I felt sad that Pars didn’t have any family member present during that moment
- Eren and Pars on the beach is my favorite scene!

01x03 - The Fog: 8.2/10 (Great)
To put it mildly, “1899” has my brain working overtime, haha. Given Maura’s background as a brain specialist and the episode’s focus on electrical impulses, I couldn’t help but wonder whether it adds credence to the simulation theory. The initial sequence always being a dream followed by an abrupt “Wake Up,” surely hinting at an external force having some control? The show has used this formula for the last three episodes. Do I hear Maura’s voice saying, “Wake up!”? The voice sounds just like her, and because she’s a doctor, the message must have some significance. Later in the episode, though, a few additional details are introduced that might throw a wrench into the whole simulation theory: why is Maura listed as a passenger on the # Prometheus, and why is Eyk Larsen the ship’s captain? Parallel timelines? Is this the “afterlife” after they’ve died? In the episode’s climax, Daniel makes the Kerberos vanish, proving that he and the first mate, Sebastian, have some control over this reality. Don’t know what the hell’s going on, but I’m here for it.

@suitability Oh, I completely missed it had "E. Larsen" as the captain. Had to watch that again. This show has me totally baffled, and I love it.
I really have no idea why I keep watching this show! It gets on my nerves so much, at this point I am just angry!!
I hate Sancar's personality with all my heart! I can't believe the writers who wrote Gediz's character are the same ones who wrote Sancar's. If the show is supposed to have a happy ending for Sancar and Nare, then this is really ridiculous! For the first time, I really can't get behind the "supposed" couple nor root for them to get together.
That being said, I really hope they do not ruin Gediz's character in the upcoming episodes.
One more thing, they really made Menekşe an evil wife just so people wouldn't support her, however regardless whether she is a good person or not, you DO NOT bring the woman you love to live under the same roof as your wife!
P.S: I am not even gonna comment on the fact that Nare was so successful in removing the bullet & that Sancar's "pain" kept coming and going :unamused:

Aww that fruit shenanigan between Cole and Zanab. A textbook example of how different viewpoints, expectations, and levels of self-esteem can distort any conversation, each of them believing different things about what was being said. That is why communication is the key in a relationship...
Based on the discussions with the Lacheys and the other constestants, I wonder whether it's Zanab who has been making things up about Cole, or if Cole is lying. But after watching the fruit conversation, maybe neither of them is lying, but understood things differently, and without a retrospective talk, both Zanab and Cole believe they are in the right. They would definitely need some closure to their relationship and talk it through, maybe even with a therapist regardless of whether they want to pursue a romantic relationship yet again.
loading replies
@sophiaso I would say they should never ever even consider a relationship again, but you're so spot on about everything you said here. Watching that last scene was honestly so sad, because he meant it in such a loving "save room" type of way and she took it in a "you're saying I'm fat" context and actually lead others to hate him for it. They were such a bad match, but you really wanted to see it succeed somehow.
The episode was good although I have issues with some of the plots:
- First of all, I am not a fan of the secret child trope. I understand Eda got hurt by Serkan but even if she has no intentions of ever reconciling with him, he has the right to know about his daughter. Eda’s decision to hide Kiraz for all that time feels weird especially since she was very adamant on Selin telling Serkan about his “child” back then and was willing to even leave Serkan for the sake of the kid
- I am very disappointed that they decided to continue with Aydan hiding her relationship with Kemal. It has been 5 years!!! And although I enjoy Kemal and Seifi’s moments, this feels very juvenile and Aydan should have told Serkan a long time ago!
- Speaking of Aydan, it is also sad to see that her relationship with Ayfer is back to square zero
I have to say the flashbacks were heartbreaking and well acted and I hope we get more of those to really understand each person’s point of view. It was announced that this season might be a short one and I hope that is the case and we get solid episodes. Although I don’t have very high hopes since I feel they might go with having Serkan believe Kiraz is Burak’s daughter, but we’ll see…

@tago1987 Exactly, let's see - Dude sounds like just you and me who rated this episode xD
I loved it bc of how it depicted adult love. More honest, understanding, not arguing over everything, not breaking up 20 times in 6 episodes. I didn't roll my eyes even once I think. The leads had chemistry and it was refreshing to see a couple who wanted but really didn't have to stand for eachother. They managed their problems by themselves although knowing the other is by their side no matter what, they give eachother time to grief or else. It was really amazing to watch and be shocked by it on every turn.
I don't think this stuff with them knowing themselves as children was necessary. From there it was more and more cliche which I didn't really like (which I previously loved that this drama wasnt cliche). I didn't really watch that many dramas and most of them had the motive of leads knowing themselves previously and slowly remembering it.
I only wished for Shi An to know Deok Mi is Shi An is My Life T.T That would be comical.
loading replies
Indeed, knowing each other as children really seemed like an unnecessary addition to re-play having guilt on her parents. While it helped provide an explanation of why Shi-An's mother was separated and thus resolved her from being a bad mother. Instead of leaving it at, recovering from a car crash and the memory being a social working say "I am not your mother", they instead re-played the whole situation with Deok-M's mother and then needed another reason explain her behaviour.
The idolising was really skipped over towards the end of the series (small scene at the coffee shop and then trying to purchase tickets soon as they went on sale was it).
I had hoped Shi-An would have made the connection from the family photos that Deok-Mi took in the gallery.
Last season's finale set up quite a few intriguing scenarios that to see them skip those and revert back feels somewhat deflating, even if the cast's chemistry remains as good as ever. Plus Baby Colin is such a wonderfully uncanny-valley creation.
loading replies
@pongpeng the finale was exciting because it shook things up but it's business as usual from the first minute. So disappointing...
- The opening scene was a bit confusing… I thought this would be a flash forward to the finale and the party where the crime will occur but it was just a random party. I forgot how the Cayetana/Phillipe special ended, were they friends again? Because their interaction in that opening segment was weird!
- I don’t like the trajectory they decided to follow regarding Phillipe. Why did the school decide to keep him after Elodie’s confession? And why are Samuel and Cayetana empathetic towards him? I mean, yeah we have killers among the main cast and we sort of get over it because it is always some act of self defense, but standing by a rapist? Really?
- I am curious about Iván although it still baffles me how parents decide to send their kids to a school where a murder gets committed every year?! I just hope this new guy gets some decent plot and not end up just there for the sex scenes the way it happened with Patrick’s character
- I thought Isadora was going to be a new comer along with Iván, however everyone is treating her as if she existed all along so now we have a character parachuted into the series with no introduction or any background whatsoever…
- The tension between Samuel & Omar feels forced. What happened to cause this? It feels just like a plot to move some things forward…
loading replies
@tago1987 adding to this, it feels weird the relationship between Patrick, Mencía and their father in this episode after the Short Stories about Patrick, it's like everything that happened in the special was completely disregarded or something, the other stories had plots that don't affect the main story but that one does...
Give Annaleigh Ashford the Best Supporting Actress Emmy for tonight. WOW.

@peggyhill I've had my eye on her ever since Masters of Sex.
- This is probably my favorite episode of the season. There were so many emotional moments, I teared up at various scenes such as Anthony’s talk with his mom and with Gregory, Kate and Mary’s scene, and Penelope and Eloise’s confrontation
- Anthony’s love confession was perfect! Jonathan Bailey did a really good job portraying this character. I liked how we saw smiling so much more once Kate was his. Unfortunately I just couldn't feel anything towards Anthony and Kate as a couple. And I think this is mostly due to Simone Ashley’s portrayal of Kate. The actress is absolutely gorgeous but the chemistry was not there and her acting was very stiff.
- The scene with them kissing with all those people around felt very misplaced. In the previous episode they had sex in public but it was in a secluded section of the garden so I can let that slide, but here you can easily see the people behind them!
- I loved the relationship between the Queen and Edwina and how the Queen got them out of this scandal
- Benedict and Eloise’s relationship remains the strongest between the siblings and it just warms my heart!
- Book Spoiler - I am viewing this adaptation as a separate entity from the books so I am not very picky when it comes to changes but one change that I am absolutely mad about is that scene where Penelope overhears Colin talking about her! This is probably one of the most iconic scenes in the books and it wasn’t supposed to happen this way!! BUT at the same time, in the show, I am not sure how the Colin/Penelope relationship will be established after what she did regarding both Marina and Eloise. How will they redeem her character in Colin’s eyes once he finds out the truth and will he be able to forgive her?
loading replies
@tago1987 it's funny how subjective chemistry is. I thought Johnny and Simone had it in heaps and I absolutely loved her as Kate. But then again I haven't read the books, so I suppose I had no expectations as to what I wanted her character to be. Are the books worth reading? I don't care about Daphne and Simon much, but for Kanthony I might consider it.

@balazs955 They both just wanted atonement. And both lost reason to live. I personally never read it as somebody have to stay behind or sacrifice themselves. That just how they wanted to go out, as heroes.
So many deaths. Connie and Jean killing people they know is somehow especially hard to watch. Annie breakdown at the end. She doesn't want to kill Eren. Even after knowing what he started.
SnK always excelled at showing cost of taking human life from a different perspective. Flipping heroes and enemies once again. Allowing Yeagerists to take a role of horrified soldiers that fight "for what is right and their families" against ruthless enemies. I love reference to Opening of season 2, with Mikasa instead of Armin, for that reason specifically. But also Armin simultaneously has the highest killcount as a titan and lowest as a human, huh. There are a couple of plotpoints that feel better like Shadis's sacrifice and the whole plan weirdly enough. Falco's form not so much... I never got used to it in the manga and it still looking freaking weird. Mappa almost made me sympathetic towards Floch's demise in a body of bloody water. Almost.

@tago1987 One day I would be able to respond without wall of text... One day.
Levi, Historia and Dimo Yes, Reeves plotline were so much better and that damn scene on the wall alone should sue anime for butchering so many amazing character driven scenes with them. And the funny thing is - it didn't even make Uprising Arc more straightforward for the audience! Instead it added so many "to be continued..." type of cuts where were none previously. That's why I'm team Mappa. At least those guys didn't cut the story/characters to that unrecognisable degree. Yet.
I hate it. It ruined the flow of Historia growth for no reason. In the beginning of the arc, the good guys literally pushed her into her next role, with a heavy silence from the main cast and resentment towards Levi... behind his back. Than we have Dimo, outsider and half-criminal, jokingly prompting spaced out Historia to punch that good fella for good measure (not surprisingly only Eren found the idea funny). And here comes the bad guy... her "understanding and caring" Father that doesn't want to push her into that role, he just "doesn't have another choice", seemingly. That contrast alone should give audience understanding why she was willing to go along. And later she has this badass moment of actually fighting back and facing Levi and Erwin. Demanding to play by her own rules!
And what do we get in anime? Weird moment of stopping character progression abruptly. Having Levi only now drop completely forgotten order on her in the most gentle way possible, without even verbal pressure... and for some reason the main cast reacts to Levi's words in the way like they just read how he treated Historia in the manga. And now we have a scene where everyone spelling out to Levi how f*cked up the mere suggestion is. Like he is a kid and not their suppirior officer that just delivered Erwin's order! And what Historia does? She just agrees with the order without any inner turmoil!!! But that apparently not enough, so we have Mikasa The girl that was the first one to follow and don't question Levi's order to murder people out of all of them?! suggesting, in all seriousness, to punch Levi for his inhumane treatment of Historia here... Who wrote it?! Oh, and that stupid punch made no sense anymore of course. That was left for pure Levi fanservice. I would honestly prefer a scene of Sasha stitching up shirtless Levi to this bs. At least that fanservice wouldn't require everyone acting out of character.
If I didn't rewatched previous seasons before "final" part I wouldn't remember who Daz was either lol

As for episode itself. It was amazing! All my expectations were blown away. Grisha's voice actor did a fantastic job.
Not slamming Eren and Zeke voice actors, I'm just used to them doing fenomenal job every single time. It's a given at this point.Eren's character and his consistency
I don't know would it be as divisive as it was with the manga. But I feel like this episode reception would be hinge upon willingness to embrace a new titan's power and what this episode did to Eren's characterisation.
I started to actually like Eren back in the Chapel, when he realised what a horrible thing his father did. How he doomed them all. And Eren was ready to sacrifice himself for the good of everyone else. It changed his worldview. Before, Eren was fine with the sacrifice in his name, because he was a chosen one. He was Humanity's last hope.
Now, realising that he would be the one to push Grisha to do those horrible things. He still went through with that. Seemingly not having such a difficult time convincing Grisha and himself (if he need it at all) that this is the only way forward. And I think the episode/chapter delivered a final blow to his past. Recontextualized his actions. Eren had a normal loving family, he wasn't brainwashed. He didn't grow up in the Underground. Neither he was raised by Kenny, mind you. And yet, his first reaction was not only to find and kill the kidnappers. But think how to go about it. He even prepared improvised weapons and didn't hesitated to use them. At 9-year-old! He didn't felt remorse at the action itself, he wasn't shaking by what happened. Grisha was more horrified that he ever was. And we knew that, we saw it, we didn't question it much. Because he is the main character and they were the monsters.

TL;DR And now Eren is back into believing that he is the chosen one and if he ever stops "Their Deaths" would be in vain. And he is the main character and the world does wants to annialate them. Situation didn't changed. And Eren sure as hell didn't. To me this character progression or deliberate stagnation felt earned. I know that, sadly, so many couldn't move past this development in the story. And felt like it was a badly executed drastic change that ruined his character. New titan's power worked as well as decision to give protagonist the power of hatred enemy, Coordinate power first use, basement reveal etc - I always thought that they were underwhelming and predictable. But the way they were excellent executed never failed to change my mind and see them as a better options for the story progression, overall.

If only Grisha knew what a story he started)
https://official-complete-2.eorzea.us/manga/Shingeki-No-Kyojin/0010-034.png
Yes, "Are you happy now" was as powerful as Eren's breakdown "You're still as useless as you ever were"
Really?! It's basically a combo of pretty common manga scenes;
https://official-complete-2.eorzea.us/manga/Shingeki-No-Kyojin/0068-012.png

https://official-complete-2.eorzea.us/manga/Shingeki-No-Kyojin/0123-031.png
Isayama interviews; and my inability to move past the trial scene, that convinced me that what Eren did at 9-year-old wasn't treated as a natural part of their cruel world by others. It something extraordinary. The moment Mikasa pointed out that Eren killed so many civilians (in Liberio) and his passive look as a non-response, I knew author would have to comeback to Eren's first murder and re-examine it.
To be fair it never was romanticized by author, sure was by Mikasa (and us somewhat).
https://official-complete-2.eorzea.us/manga/Shingeki-No-Kyojin/0006-015.png
https://official-complete-2.eorzea.us/manga/Shingeki-No-Kyojin/0006-016.png
https://official-complete-2.eorzea.us/manga/Shingeki-No-Kyojin/0109-023.png
So, I do think we were meant to question Eren's actions along with Mikasa here. But I also believe that it was overcorrection on her part where she remembers him being only a monster, that was literally blinded by rage. I mean he was depicted like Ymir in her slave state, it would be a weird coincidence if it wasn't intentional.
Eren's mindset is the last "basement" of this series. And my understanding of him changed over time. I think I downplayed his obsession with freedom at first. To me it felt like non-answer. I can't find original post, but someone did, honest to god, analyse on fake preview series. You probably remember Isayama's High School AU:
https://official-complete-2.eorzea.us/manga/Shingeki-No-Kyojin/0122-039.png
And suddenly everything falls into place. In a true free world, Eren's character wants to be special, live in "fight or die" situation and fight with a simple minded enemy with a clear goal/victory for the good guys. He would rather become a threat to humanity himself than continuing to live like ordinary nobody. And in the manga, Eren (again) hates humanity behind the walls for complicating his victory and making freedom unachievable for him and his people in his short lifespan. He would rather wipe slate clean, but see that uncomplicated "scenery" and winning no matter the price, than compromise his vision of a freedom.
Here Isayama's interview that was constantly brought up regarding Eren's nature. It came out before the attack on Liberio, at the start of Marley arc.
"Ultimately, I don’t think the series passes judgment on what is “right” or “wrong.” For example, when I read Furuya Minoru’s “Himeanole,” I knew society would consider the serial killer in the story unforgivable under social norms. But when I took into account his life and background I still wondered, “If this was his nature, then who is to blame…?” I even thought, “Is it merely coincidence that I wasn’t born as a murderer?” We justify what we absolutely cannot accomplish as “a flaw due to lack of effort,” and there is bitterness within that. On the other hand, for a perpetrator, having the mindset of “It’s not because I lack effort that I became like this” is a form of solace. We cannot deny that under such circumstances, the victims’ feelings are very important. But considering the root of the issue, rather than evaluating “what is right”…to be influenced by various other works and their philosophies, and to truthfully illustrate my exact feelings during those moments - I think that’s what Shingeki no Kyojin’s ending will resemble."
Anime-onlys, are you alright guys?) We been there it's confusing, but kinda awesome.
Just in case, if anybody actually confused with how exactly Grisha saw Zeke. Grisha simultaneously saw the scene in the basement through Eren's eyes and his own. That's why he saw only Zeke and not Eren. He couldn't see Eren in the person. He could see himself through Eren's eyes. That's why Eren was always behind Grisha, in the moments when Grisha did looked at Zeke. Like with Frieda in the mirror back in season 3 or ch. 53
https://official-complete-2.eorzea.us/manga/Shingeki-No-Kyojin/0053-020.pngAnd yes, incredibly enough in the 1st episode of season 1 or in ch.1 Grisha wasn't looking at young Eren when he talked about the basement. This small detail was already there all this years ago, back in 2009!!!
https://official-complete-2.eorzea.us/manga/Shingeki-No-Kyojin/0001-040.pngSo, neither Zeke nor Eren were physically* there.
They couldn't change the past either. It's more like self-fulfilling prophecy. Like Terminator's plot (first one) if you will. They couldn't say or do anything that would have gave them a different outcome. Or else they wouldn't be there in the first place. Or alternatively they only were there, because this specific plotline happened and that specific plotline happened this way, because they were there at the time. Chicken or the egg - type of situation.*Nobody freaking knows how the hell hug worked... I guess they both hugged air or old excuse of "paths working in the mysterious ways". Hell, maybe anime would give us a more concrete answer... in the future?

@tago1987 AoT does set up and pay off like no other series/film. I do wonder, however, how much of the story was laid out years in advance and what was seamless later addition.
I remember being so frustrated with the author for "wasting" dialogue between Ymir and Reiner in the forest. "Characters were vague just for the sake of being vague!" After Ymir's letter and the basement, I reread it... and just wow it's crazy how much they actually said to one another! Lifespan. Warriors. Real enemy. Hell, the reason why Eren doesn't know what "ape" means had a big implication. Those two freaking panels:

That's one hell of foreshadowing for one scene)
The story had like 6 layers of paint pealed off and we still 2-3 layers away from seeing the whole picture. Crazy!
Mappa, we know that time and budget is less than ideal, but please stop with 2 min repeat of previous episodes. Now is not the time.
The ending would need all the breathing room it could get and pacing issues would probably require to shift stuff around. Not padding for time! Not only Gabi finally saw the light, but also Falco finally felt like a human being. Nice imagery with the cages.
For manga readers only. Either hindsight is 20/20 or it was better conveyed in the anime. Wow, Armin just realised Eren's actual plan!

- Olivia keeps breaking my heart
- Such a clever twist! I mean, the things he did which he now claims “do not make sense” really don’t make sense unless you are a sociopath who takes credit in what he did. He is playing his part to perfection and now I am convinced that he is faking the amnesia
- That closeup on Paul's feet & specifically his toenails in the shower! Talk about killing the actor's sex appeal

@tago1987 Actually, I really liked that closeup! I mean, it's so realistic, he's been on the run, arrested, then in the hospital, when would he clip his nails? :)
Wow. They actually ended it on the last panel of ch. 116!!! They basically didn't show you guys anything, yet. Damn, that's just brutal.
But also hilarious. I was sure that in order to put all the important info from 2 chapters they would have to cut some small stuff for good. But nope! Not even the smallest thing was cut from the manga... except for the panels revealing what happened to Levi and Zeke afterwards. Which I assume everyone wanted to see the most)
Brilliant move. Instead of 1 cliffhanger this way they got 3 cliffhangers for anime fans.
I freaking loved the Passing. And to be fair they archived it thanks to cutting two major plot points from the manga.
They probably gonna start Part 2 with Levi and Zeke scenes. There is just no way around it. They have to show it eventually.. Oh and the dialogues this episode all hitted the right noteexcept for infodump between Pixies and Yelena.
I can't believe that Porco was shown in the manga too before Jaw appears and I didn't notice him back then. Too be fair it wasn't as in your face as in the anime. But still https://official-complete-2.eorzea.us/manga/Shingeki-No-Kyojin/0116-027.pngEren vs Pieck - their whole interaction couldn't have been done better.
"Show us. Where's the enemy? There. - I was waiting for this scene. It was perfect.
https://official-complete-2.eorzea.us/manga/Shingeki-No-Kyojin/0116-034.pngAnime fans in week or two manga will officially end. So spoilers would be everywhere. Be careful. And goodluck!
To summarize part 1 of Season 4:
Blessing in disguise. Characters, their mindset and themes were handled right. Marley's arc in particular. Manga had more gradual reveal of some plot points, but I'm not sure that in the end Zeke's plan suffered from it for example. Cuts and rearrangements worked most of the times. Especially in episodes like Children of the Forest as well done set up. Hell, Gabi and Falco focused chapter was almost unbearable to read through. But with some small tweaks to timeline and pushed around storylines Gabi and Falco focused episode was actually enjoyable in the anime. They managed to get passing under control and let scenes breath after 4 or so episode.
Action did suffered. Well, Levi action scenes suffered alot in my opinion the rest was decent to good.
Certainly not worst than Eren vs Reiner in season 3I'm not a fan of soft retcon with the Ackermans. Purpose of it just seems unclear in regards to the future storyline changes. Oh and there is definitely moments where animation felt way off. Not even season 3 had this many derp faces)Ok, so Part 1 covered 25 chapters in 16 episodes. Only 22 chapters left. Here's hoping that it would give us at least 14 episodes. That would be ideal passing. Apparently Part 2 would came out around January 2022.
p.s. I can't believe that final chapter will drop in like a week. Hope, it won't dissapoint.

@reiko_lj random, but ok. Is there a limit? Should I comment according to your style - only on half of episodes this season?)
Oh god! I hate things related to the eyes. Had to skip that scene altogether!
So what is the secret related to Buck? My first thought is that he is adopted. However, the fact that Maddie told her mom that Buck was seeing a therapist (which is something he explicitly did not want to do) makes me think there is something more serious going on.
Now for the crossover event, I am usually not a big fan of crossovers especially when I am not watching one of the shows but this one really worked. The 9-1-1 Lone Star episode was great and their team seem like solid characters, I actually enjoyed that one much more than the 9-1-1 episode. I loved the pairing, like-minded people put together. I wouldn’t watch Lone Star (9-1-1 is enough for now) but I wouldn’t mind another crossover when done well.

For the people who say this season is good, I hope you saw the animation difference in this episode as it had a mix of the new and old

@xtremebrah When season 2 came out people complained about use of CGI.
When season 3 came out people complained about new characters designs, oversimplification of animation in static scenes and CGI. But amazingly done Levi vs Kenny and Levi vs Beast scenes overshadowed overall impression I guess.
When season 4... yeah.
I would say this season is great so far! Because I personally watch it for characters, themes and story. And anime usually adds amazing voice-acting (Armored and Colossal titans reveal), beatifully executed fight scenes, music. So I didn't care for use of stills or godawful CGI colossal titans back in the WIT's days, nore do I care about those stuff in season 4.
Cause WIT made god-awful amount of changes to Uprising Arc, which in away was just a taste-sample for current storyline and themes.
They were afraid to show main characters from let's call it unpleasant sides (Levi, Hanji), sinister side (Armin). All conflicts and their resolutions were oversimplified. Dialogues were cut left and right. Main characters operated in vacuum, where in the manga there were pissed off towns folk, social and economic tension, addition of a great character like Dimo Reeves. Yeah, that guy that was killed by Kenny and in anime-storyline no longer had any purpose, but was left in by WIT just for the action scene... If you want to see real difference watch episode 2 and than read chapter 54.
BTW, if you want to see the animation difference also go watch season 3 episode 2 and compare it to any episode this season. Now scenes actually have movement in them, characters not look like stills even when they stand and just talk. Oh and space that character occupies looked bare in season 3 (even in comparison to manga) and this season backgrounds
were enriched, there are even added dialogues for bystanders(!) In short if it isn't action scenes WIT would rarely improve on it, this especially become apparent in season 3 (the weakest one animation-wise).
So on one hand I can only imagine how many anime-original cool over-the-top actions scenes we would have gotten this season (characters Levi injuries be damned).
On the other hand I got the most humanized version of introduction to Marleyan warriors candidates with anime-original scenes included; haunting Armin overlooking aftermath of his actions. Willy's character. Willy's play if it was WIT that would have been done entirely in stills and only with panels from manga, without additional scenes Hell even addition of small suicide scene. And this whole episode to be honest. No important characters interactions was cut, yet! And bonus, Mikasa might just not get any more questionable anime-original scenes. Which might come in handy this season, just saying.
Action-wise Mappa animates it pretty close to the manga with rarely if at all new imaginative action-scenes.
WIT, even now, would run circles around Mappa. Animation quality overall? Mappa is better. Why?
Because we wouldn't have gotten season 1 or even season 2 quality from WIT, especially with that schedule. And season 3 looked worse than current one. Seriously rewatch it and compare.
For me it's a small price compared to benefits for characters and story. So yeah, so far, it's a great season.
