@kizz-n-tell The hair pushed back!!
- The opening scene was a bit confusing… I thought this would be a flash forward to the finale and the party where the crime will occur but it was just a random party. I forgot how the Cayetana/Phillipe special ended, were they friends again? Because their interaction in that opening segment was weird!
- I don’t like the trajectory they decided to follow regarding Phillipe. Why did the school decide to keep him after Elodie’s confession? And why are Samuel and Cayetana empathetic towards him? I mean, yeah we have killers among the main cast and we sort of get over it because it is always some act of self defense, but standing by a rapist? Really?
- I am curious about Iván although it still baffles me how parents decide to send their kids to a school where a murder gets committed every year?! I just hope this new guy gets some decent plot and not end up just there for the sex scenes the way it happened with Patrick’s character
- I thought Isadora was going to be a new comer along with Iván, however everyone is treating her as if she existed all along so now we have a character parachuted into the series with no introduction or any background whatsoever…
- The tension between Samuel & Omar feels forced. What happened to cause this? It feels just like a plot to move some things forward…

@2ls1t Yeah true, that is the main reason behind it. But when watching, I felt that we were thrown into it with the tension already reaching its peak...
So many tears in this episode...I'm so happy for Amelia I was worried for her ..nice to see all the flashbacks too
loading replies
@juedan2011 I was doing fine until Chasing Cars started playing and with those flashbacks at the end I just couldn't stop the tears...
- This is probably my favorite episode of the season. There were so many emotional moments, I teared up at various scenes such as Anthony’s talk with his mom and with Gregory, Kate and Mary’s scene, and Penelope and Eloise’s confrontation
- Anthony’s love confession was perfect! Jonathan Bailey did a really good job portraying this character. I liked how we saw smiling so much more once Kate was his. Unfortunately I just couldn't feel anything towards Anthony and Kate as a couple. And I think this is mostly due to Simone Ashley’s portrayal of Kate. The actress is absolutely gorgeous but the chemistry was not there and her acting was very stiff.
- The scene with them kissing with all those people around felt very misplaced. In the previous episode they had sex in public but it was in a secluded section of the garden so I can let that slide, but here you can easily see the people behind them!
- I loved the relationship between the Queen and Edwina and how the Queen got them out of this scandal
- Benedict and Eloise’s relationship remains the strongest between the siblings and it just warms my heart!
- Book Spoiler - I am viewing this adaptation as a separate entity from the books so I am not very picky when it comes to changes but one change that I am absolutely mad about is that scene where Penelope overhears Colin talking about her! This is probably one of the most iconic scenes in the books and it wasn’t supposed to happen this way!! BUT at the same time, in the show, I am not sure how the Colin/Penelope relationship will be established after what she did regarding both Marina and Eloise. How will they redeem her character in Colin’s eyes once he finds out the truth and will he be able to forgive her?

@aniela-krajewska I really like the books, some more than others but all of them apart from Daphne and Simon's book (don't care about them either) are enjoyable reads. The family dynamics are more present, you can see how close the siblings are to each other which makes for great passages. My favorite book is Hyacinth's so I really hope we get enough seasons to see her story!

I do love that they left in Yelena addressing Levi's issues. Would have been even nicer if anime-watchers knew how exactly Levi tried to push Historia into a role of the Queen, for comparison in ch. 56. And for more complete picture of Levi's complicated character.

@gloom8 After reading the manga, I was surprised that they have cut this scene and barely included the otherwise elaborate plan with the Reeves company. The whole coup d'etat arc in the manga is much more intriguing than what we got in the anime. One thing that has always bothered me when I watched it, was Mikasa telling Historia to hit Levi after she is crowned queen, it seemed so out of the blue because as anime watchers we had no idea what had already occurred, it felt weird that they kept that part in!
I thought we knew the name Daz from somewhere but I couldn't place him!!
As for episode itself. It was amazing! All my expectations were blown away. Grisha's voice actor did a fantastic job.
Not slamming Eren and Zeke voice actors, I'm just used to them doing fenomenal job every single time. It's a given at this point.Eren's character and his consistency
I don't know would it be as divisive as it was with the manga. But I feel like this episode reception would be hinge upon willingness to embrace a new titan's power and what this episode did to Eren's characterisation.
I started to actually like Eren back in the Chapel, when he realised what a horrible thing his father did. How he doomed them all. And Eren was ready to sacrifice himself for the good of everyone else. It changed his worldview. Before, Eren was fine with the sacrifice in his name, because he was a chosen one. He was Humanity's last hope.
Now, realising that he would be the one to push Grisha to do those horrible things. He still went through with that. Seemingly not having such a difficult time convincing Grisha and himself (if he need it at all) that this is the only way forward. And I think the episode/chapter delivered a final blow to his past. Recontextualized his actions. Eren had a normal loving family, he wasn't brainwashed. He didn't grow up in the Underground. Neither he was raised by Kenny, mind you. And yet, his first reaction was not only to find and kill the kidnappers. But think how to go about it. He even prepared improvised weapons and didn't hesitated to use them. At 9-year-old! He didn't felt remorse at the action itself, he wasn't shaking by what happened. Grisha was more horrified that he ever was. And we knew that, we saw it, we didn't question it much. Because he is the main character and they were the monsters.

TL;DR And now Eren is back into believing that he is the chosen one and if he ever stops "Their Deaths" would be in vain. And he is the main character and the world does wants to annialate them. Situation didn't changed. And Eren sure as hell didn't. To me this character progression or deliberate stagnation felt earned. I know that, sadly, so many couldn't move past this development in the story. And felt like it was a badly executed drastic change that ruined his character. New titan's power worked as well as decision to give protagonist the power of hatred enemy, Coordinate power first use, basement reveal etc - I always thought that they were underwhelming and predictable. But the way they were excellent executed never failed to change my mind and see them as a better options for the story progression, overall.

@gloom8 I love this analysis of Eren's character and I must say I haven't read anyone looking at it this way. I really appreciate what Isayama is doing with his character and Eren's dialog to Zeke about him being different ever since he was born. I remember in one of the previous episodes in part 1, Mikasa gets a headache and we see a flashback to what happened with her and Eren as kids and I wondered at the time whether the purpose of it was to accentuate Eren's violent side, and although it wasn't the case, it was the first time I actually thought of that scene through that lense and how we accepted what happened as a heroic action on Eren's part.
As for the events with Grisha, I loved how Eren recalled the same lines once spoken by the Owl when he told Grisha "Even if we die, even after we die, you began this story didn't you?"... I mean we have always thought that the line about Mikasa and Armin back then pointed out to some sort of cycle or shared memories but NOTHING could have prepared us for this!
And yes Grisha's voice actor owned his scenes. That part where he broke down yelling "Are you happy now?" Oof!!
Anime-onlys, are you alright guys?) We been there it's confusing, but kinda awesome.
Just in case, if anybody actually confused with how exactly Grisha saw Zeke. Grisha simultaneously saw the scene in the basement through Eren's eyes and his own. That's why he saw only Zeke and not Eren. He couldn't see Eren in the person. He could see himself through Eren's eyes. That's why Eren was always behind Grisha, in the moments when Grisha did looked at Zeke. Like with Frieda in the mirror back in season 3 or ch. 53
https://official-complete-2.eorzea.us/manga/Shingeki-No-Kyojin/0053-020.pngAnd yes, incredibly enough in the 1st episode of season 1 or in ch.1 Grisha wasn't looking at young Eren when he talked about the basement. This small detail was already there all this years ago, back in 2009!!!
https://official-complete-2.eorzea.us/manga/Shingeki-No-Kyojin/0001-040.pngSo, neither Zeke nor Eren were physically* there.
They couldn't change the past either. It's more like self-fulfilling prophecy. Like Terminator's plot (first one) if you will. They couldn't say or do anything that would have gave them a different outcome. Or else they wouldn't be there in the first place. Or alternatively they only were there, because this specific plotline happened and that specific plotline happened this way, because they were there at the time. Chicken or the egg - type of situation.*Nobody freaking knows how the hell hug worked... I guess they both hugged air or old excuse of "paths working in the mysterious ways". Hell, maybe anime would give us a more concrete answer... in the future?

Mappa, we know that time and budget is less than ideal, but please stop with 2 min repeat of previous episodes. Now is not the time.
The ending would need all the breathing room it could get and pacing issues would probably require to shift stuff around. Not padding for time! Not only Gabi finally saw the light, but also Falco finally felt like a human being. Nice imagery with the cages.
For manga readers only. Either hindsight is 20/20 or it was better conveyed in the anime. Wow, Armin just realised Eren's actual plan!
I don't remember him doing that back than. Almost gives a different vibe to his next steps.loading replies
@gloom8 How about all of the above?! No but really, I don't see Armin going through all that length just to prove Eren wrong and at the same time you are right in it being out of character for him to have no hesitation whatsoever but then again who knows? Honestly, I would gravitate more towards your last point of it being just a foreshadowing...

@gloom8 Regarding your manga comment, you are talking about the flashback to the sea right? If that is the case, then it was definitely better conveyed in the anime. I have a note from reading that chapter about not understanding the significance of that panel!

@gloom8 Hello!!! Manga reader now... I cave in and read the entire thing last year after part 1 ended
Oh god! I hate things related to the eyes. Had to skip that scene altogether!
So what is the secret related to Buck? My first thought is that he is adopted. However, the fact that Maddie told her mom that Buck was seeing a therapist (which is something he explicitly did not want to do) makes me think there is something more serious going on.
Now for the crossover event, I am usually not a big fan of crossovers especially when I am not watching one of the shows but this one really worked. The 9-1-1 Lone Star episode was great and their team seem like solid characters, I actually enjoyed that one much more than the 9-1-1 episode. I loved the pairing, like-minded people put together. I wouldn’t watch Lone Star (9-1-1 is enough for now) but I wouldn’t mind another crossover when done well.
loading replies
@thenightwolf Yes the story continues in 9-1-1 Lonestar S02E03 "Hold the Line"
- That first scene was so weird with the titan opening up its stomach and putting Zeke inside
- Armin getting all emotional after hearing Yelena’s plan was a bit much. Was he faking it?
- Yelena killing Griez caught me by surprise! I figured she wouldn’t condone what he was saying but I didn’t think she would just shoot him like that
- I don’t know how Gabi hasn’t lost her mind completely by now
- That last scene was epic! And of course, they would cut at that exact moment…
I was putting off reading the manga until this season was over (which was initially after this episode) mainly because I wanted to be surprised by the anime. But now that we are getting a part 2 and the fact that it will be in 2022, that is such a long wait so I guess I will be starting the manga and hopefully can make myself stop before reaching the end (and avoid spoilers) just to leave some suspense for the anime.
loading replies
@gloom8 Yeah that panel of Yelena actually shooting the guy wasn’t shown in the anime..
Regarding spoilers, I did manage to not get any spoilers last week when Episode 14 was postponed, I unfollowed everything related to anime or AOT on all platforms and I downloaded an extension on FB to hide all suggested posts which is where usually I might stumble on spoilers, so I might be fine BUT I would be pretty pissed if something get spoiled so I guess it is safer to just go ahead and start reading the manga. And I would start from Chapter 1, I can’t do it otherwise
Wow. They actually ended it on the last panel of ch. 116!!! They basically didn't show you guys anything, yet. Damn, that's just brutal.
But also hilarious. I was sure that in order to put all the important info from 2 chapters they would have to cut some small stuff for good. But nope! Not even the smallest thing was cut from the manga... except for the panels revealing what happened to Levi and Zeke afterwards. Which I assume everyone wanted to see the most)
Brilliant move. Instead of 1 cliffhanger this way they got 3 cliffhangers for anime fans.
I freaking loved the Passing. And to be fair they archived it thanks to cutting two major plot points from the manga.
They probably gonna start Part 2 with Levi and Zeke scenes. There is just no way around it. They have to show it eventually.. Oh and the dialogues this episode all hitted the right noteexcept for infodump between Pixies and Yelena.
I can't believe that Porco was shown in the manga too before Jaw appears and I didn't notice him back then. Too be fair it wasn't as in your face as in the anime. But still https://official-complete-2.eorzea.us/manga/Shingeki-No-Kyojin/0116-027.pngEren vs Pieck - their whole interaction couldn't have been done better.
"Show us. Where's the enemy? There. - I was waiting for this scene. It was perfect.
https://official-complete-2.eorzea.us/manga/Shingeki-No-Kyojin/0116-034.pngAnime fans in week or two manga will officially end. So spoilers would be everywhere. Be careful. And goodluck!
To summarize part 1 of Season 4:
Blessing in disguise. Characters, their mindset and themes were handled right. Marley's arc in particular. Manga had more gradual reveal of some plot points, but I'm not sure that in the end Zeke's plan suffered from it for example. Cuts and rearrangements worked most of the times. Especially in episodes like Children of the Forest as well done set up. Hell, Gabi and Falco focused chapter was almost unbearable to read through. But with some small tweaks to timeline and pushed around storylines Gabi and Falco focused episode was actually enjoyable in the anime. They managed to get passing under control and let scenes breath after 4 or so episode.
Action did suffered. Well, Levi action scenes suffered alot in my opinion the rest was decent to good.
Certainly not worst than Eren vs Reiner in season 3I'm not a fan of soft retcon with the Ackermans. Purpose of it just seems unclear in regards to the future storyline changes. Oh and there is definitely moments where animation felt way off. Not even season 3 had this many derp faces)Ok, so Part 1 covered 25 chapters in 16 episodes. Only 22 chapters left. Here's hoping that it would give us at least 14 episodes. That would be ideal passing. Apparently Part 2 would came out around January 2022.
p.s. I can't believe that final chapter will drop in like a week. Hope, it won't dissapoint.

- Wow, the writers don’t even want to mention the name Fiona at all!
- Gallavich and Frank’s scenes were the only good parts of the episode. Although since we only have a couple of episodes left, I would have liked to see more of Frank’s interactions with his kids and the aftermath of his diagnosis
- It seems the writers are determined on making Kevin dumber as the season goes. Since when he was a bad father that couldn’t take care of his daughters??

Zeke’s plan is fully explained, although given that there is only one episode left, I thought we would see more of the current storyline. Nevertheless, these background episodes are always so well done and this was no exception.
As for the final scene, the animation was beautiful! But Levi is not dead, right? RIGHT? RIGHT???
One episode left, how they are going to wrap up the story in 24 mins??
- We still did not see the Warriors on the island (Reiner, Pieck, & Galliard)
- In the 1st episode, Falco had visions of flying around with a sword, which indicates that he had someone else’s memories so he must become a Titan at some point and specifically a titan that had used the 3D maneuver gear. So will he inherit Reiner’s titan? Eren’s??
- The Owl once told Grisha that the same history shouldn’t be repeated in order for him to save Mikasa, Armin, and everyone else. What does that mean? Are we just stuck in a cycle? Is Zeke/Erin’s plan something new or are they repeating a previous mistake?
- What about the rumbling? Is that still gonna happen?
- And what about Annie? Is she gonna wake up at some point??
loading replies
@gloom8 Yeah I remember we saw a glimpse of Pieck in a previous episode but I mean we did not see them in action, we just know they are there...
When it comes to Annie, I always thought she would suddenly wake up once the warriors initiate their attack on the island, now I am not so sure how much time will be dedicated to this, with everything else happening. I think we might have seen the last of Annie when it comes to this part of the season and I would say I am 80% sure the rumbling is gonna happen.
Perfect set up for the next episode.
"That's all you ever talk about, huh? Kill, kill, kill... You remind me of a certain someone..."
Hell yeah! Can't wait for "the talk" scene.I was surprised where they chose to cut Levi's storyline. But oh well, I can wait a week)

- It is so ironic that the girl helping Gabi is the same one who was saved by Sasha and she did so to live up to Sasha’s legacy. It took me a minute to make the connection when she started telling her story and I totally missed that those were Sasha’s parents at the beginning (even though we saw them just a couple of episodes ago).
- That whole talk with the girl demanding to know what her mother did to deserve such a death was so well done. Gabi kept repeating the one thing that she is constantly being fed by Marley which is that they are responsible for their ancestors’ sins and hence no Eldian is really innocent. I wonder at what point - if any - will her narrative start to change?
- Marley preparing to wage war when there is a big imbalance in power. They have 3 titans, one of which is not in his best state (Reiner) while Paradis has the Beast, the Colossal, and Eren’s 3-in-1, in addition to the scouts themselves.
- What was the purpose of Mikasa’s flashback? It seems to accentuate Eren’s violent side?
loading replies
@gloom8 From the past episodes, it seems Mikasa is the only one that is still backing up Eren even if she doesn’t totally agree with his actions.
As for Armin, it is clear that the Marley attack took a huge toll on him, especially the destruction caused by his Colossal (although in his talk with Annie, he acknowledged that it had to be done). Regarding him being decisive about Eren’s future: well he originally suggested that him and Mikasa go and speak with Eren alone to know his goal and he only mentioned the plan to have someone they trust inherit Eren’s titan after Jean said that Eren’s goals may be aligned with Zeke’s. So I don’t think his mind is fully made up yet.
- I loved that they addressed the issues of Paul standing outside the vehicle in the forest and him and Anderson not wearing any bullet proof vests. It kind of bugged me in the season finale how convenient this was, but it is good to see that it was being purposely done for the review plot that followed
- I believe Paul and don't think he is faking it. However, what is the law concerning convicting someone with a memory loss? I mean he still committed the act but does it present a loophole the defense can use?
- Since he is a murder suspect, it is weird that he is not handcuffed to the bed and there is no officer directly in front of his door

VIP7So it is confirmed that Frank has dementia. Frank is such a horrible character, he has done so many inexcusable things throughout the years but I am sure I will be in complete tears as the story progresses. William H. Macy does one hell of a job portraying this character.
Another highlight of the episode was Mickey and his conflict when it comes to his father. I love the way this was handled and how he dealt with it in the end.
I miss old Lip and him actually making smart decisions! And now he wants to sell the house where his siblings live? Even if they each get a cut, why would they want to add “paying rent” to their problems? And what about Liam? Who will he end up with?
It is ironic how Debbie was the one to point out that Carl was actually raped. I hope this means she now understands the gravity of what she did to

@niquarl Yeah if the writers are trying to show her as a decent person then they are really doing a bad job at it. She is quite an unlikeable character and a bad mother as well!
- Historia was on board for becoming a titan however the fact that she went and got pregnant means that Eren probably convinced her of another way to save Paradis (maybe he let her in on the secret plan)
- The scene of them riding into the sunset arguing about inheriting the titan was such a wholesome moment, which makes their current situation even sadder with them being torn between the Eren they knew back then and the current Eren
- Levi annoyed at everyone getting so big :joy:

Another point I missed above was that suspicious wine bottle that Nicolo gave to the Marleyan guy to serve the military... At first, I thought maybe it is something to put them to sleep but didn't catch the reason behind it HOWEVER I was just rewatching the scene of Mikasa and the others discussing the behavior of Eren, and Mikasa says that "the military has Titan serum" and then we cut to the guards drinking the wine while watching Zeke so could Nicolo have put Titan serum in the bottle? So Zeke can know use his scream to turn them into titans in order for him to escape???
Review by Gloom8
Once again feels like they are rushing. There are small improvements through. Like for example showing flashback first felt way more natural. Comparatively to manga where Mikasa basically stopped their debate in the middle by pretty much saying: "Hey, guys, lets all remember that important flashback from a year ago? Don't worry we would get back to our arguing in 20 or so pages".
On the other hand the reveal about Mikasa's past is a bit more awkward and clumsy now. At least we got this scene as a buffer:
https://official-complete-2.eorzea.us/manga/Shingeki-No-Kyojin/0107-010.png
Anyway it's too deep of a cut, so many peoplehell fans evenforgot about the scene between Mikasa and her mother. It would have felt out of blue regardless, I guess. But the lore! I feel like speculation and theorizing is
the most importantfun part of the series. And boy does anime continues to keep you guys on a strict diet. I mean sure some info turn out to be not important, some was red herring, some lead to dead end, but some contained important details for the future or past.If anyone curious to see

@gloom8 I totally forgot about the scene between Mikasa and her mother. When it was mentioned in this episode, I thought it was something that happened off screen and I also never noticed Mikasa’s bandage. Was it there all along?
So I'm guessing Maddie's brother died and the family adopted Buck afterwards which is why he has no memory of that kid. Because why would you hide a sibling's death from your child? They had so many years to tell him...

@catherinneduarte Oh that would be very interesting
Do you think that Trooper is faking it?????

@betty45 Yes he definitely is!!
- Armin looking at the destruction his Colossal Titan caused and thinking how Bertholt must have felt the same way! I love these small moments, same thing when Mikasa mentioned the dead children in the last episode. This whole war is tragic to say the least, but we can’t fault the Paradis Scouts for fighting for survival. And while Eldians on Marley’s side are under the impression that they too are fighting for survival against these “demons”, Marley’s only aim is to obtain the Founding Titan to reinstate itself above all other nations.
- The new 3D maneuver gear is amazing! The whole attack sequence was crazy!
- Levi Ackerman!! :star_struck::star_struck:
- Zeke’s fall was brilliantly done! Everyone’s focus is elsewhere (including us, the viewers) and then we see him going down!
- Eren using the Jaw Titan to eat the War Hammer Titan was both brilliant and brutal! And now he has 3 Titans!!
- Poor Reiner! The guy can’t even die in peace
- One thing that is confusing me though is what did Zeke mean when he told Levi that he was running out of time? We then see Levi looking at the watch, I am assuming Levi was waiting for Armin to attack but how would Zeke know that?? Which makes me think where was Zeke all this time? Back in Episode 5 when Pieck and Galliard were being escorted by Armin, Zeke was sent elsewhere. Why? What is the meaning of all this?? I feel there is a twist somewhere and I am not ready!! @gloom8 :eyes:

@barghest Oh it is not? So it is character that we don't know? And where did Pieck recognize her from then?
The episode feels rushed, many characters are introduced but nothing really fully explored. I haven't read the books so I am not sure how much more details it has but for example, the alchemist scene was very quick and I failed to really understand it. How/what caused the snake to come alive?
I am glad Diana got accepted into the witches' covent, it would be interesting to see her full abilities. As for Sato, how do we know she is also special? Was it something specific that was shown in the previous season?
On the other hand, while everything seems to be working for Diana, it is not the case for Matthew who came back a different man and is having trouble fitting into his old role.

@aniela-krajewska Thanks for the clarification... Interesting so I am guessing Satu will have a bigger role in the future!

@gloom8 Hmmm both translations regarding the passing of time seem to be holding some hidden meaning... I wish they kept Zeke's lines as in the manga especially "Eren Jaeger is not my enemy", it's quite different than "Eren Jaeger is no match for me" but again as you said it's probably the difference in translations
Ysabeau felt a powerful presence near Sept Tours but only the least reliable person (Marcus) got out to check it. The chateau is filled with daemons, witches, and vampires. They are already aware of the danger lurking around them however they still have no preparations whatsoever. They are basically just sitting idly waiting for Matthew and Diana to come back.
I didn’t like Diana going behind Matthew’s back and giving her blood to Hubbard when Matthew explicitly told her not to! This is bound to make troubles and we see the first glimpse of that when Benjamin Fuchs comes questioning Hubbard. Speaking of Fuchs, is the Oxford blood rage vampire related to him in any way? We got a reveal of the face but it is not someone we recognize, at least I don’t. Are we supposed to have an idea by now who it is?
What is the point of Marcus’ girlfriend? She feels very forced into the story…

@balian Oh really? I will have to check it again! That's interesting...
