I’m glad Kirk only lasted one season. Possibly the most unlikeable character in any sitcom and that includes Seinfeld.
An embarrassment episode so early in the series. At least this one wasn’t so bad, and Dick and Joanna make it go down easy.
This definitely feels more like the later seasons of Newhart.
Why does an inn in Vermont have a brochure/map for Texas on the registration desk?
The high point is Dick on the phone. It’s just nice rewatching this, like a warm blanket on a New England winter night.
Very much enjoyed this, and I was surprised at how well Armisen played Fester. I'm not an Armisen fan very much, but damn did he rock in his portrayal of Fester. Arguably better than Lloyd in channeling Coogan, if that's what either of them were going for. The main thing that still troubles me, though, is the idea of outcasts. I get that this is a different Addamsverse, but in either the series or the movies, the Addams Family never thought of themselves as outcasts, or that they in any way needed a safe space for monsters. They barely even thought of themselves as "non-traditional". The other thing that I'm still working to get past, and I feel I have to chalk it up to the youthfulness of the character, is Wednesday consistently falling for red herrings and getting focused on finding facts to support her jumping to conclusion after conclusion.
Nice wrap-up, although it has the same problem that so many series have of dispatching the Big Bad too easily. I would’ve liked a nice little Easter egg of the school doing the Vic Mizzy theme and opening.
I’m not a Fred Armisen fan, but wow, does he rock it as Fester.
The timing for this episode seems right. Wednesday gets her eyes opened a bit, but maybe just a bit.
One mystery down, several still to go. I do appreciate it when the writers don’t have too many ongoing threads at once.
Okay, back to Riverdale with a side of Carrie.
The slow burn is starting to get to me. It’s feeling less Riverdale and more Twin Peaks. Maybe if the episodes were a half hour instead.
There are just enough nods to classic Addams lore to keep me excited. It feels like a cross between the films and Riverdale, with just a dash of Harry Potter thrown in.
A bit gorier than I expected, but creepy, kooky, and spooky in good ways. And now I want to read the novels that Wedneday wrote. And Luis Guzmán is the perfect Gomez.
Better than most I’ve seen this season, all credit to Michael B Jordan for it.
The problem with multiple subplots is that neither get enough attention in the short runtime of the episode. They really could’ve extended the Dan and Jackie one and included some clips.
A bit of an improvement, although Adam’s subplot was the typical overreacting which will be tied up at the end.
Nice bookend to the pilot episode, but if it had been released weekly, it would’ve had more emotional impact.
Yay, Leo! I hope Tommy Chong is in more of the next season.
He’s right, he did look good in that jacket.
Aw, Sally Jesse Raphael reference! It’s so ‘90s!
Okay, I thought bringing in old characters was great, but really it was the Vista Cruiser was what I was waiting for.
They lost such an opportunity for Donna to find out who Leia has a crush on. I mean, come ON!
Okay, this one was maybe the funniest so far and Mace is channeling Ashton’s Kelso amazingly well.
Oh Fez. You were right there when I needed you. And damn, that’s Kelso and Jackie’s kid? I’m not buying it.
The first episode was definitely set up but it’s ramping up now. Having Leo again right away was a bit of a surprise, but it worked well.
The fact that this show got made means that society has been sitting in Eric’s basement getting high for the last few decades. The layers of a show about nostalgia coming back because of nostalgia. It’s layers upon layers, man. But how can I not watch Kitty and Red for another season?
James Marsters really does kick ass all over David Boreanaz in terms of characterization. Really upping the ante in terms of teen drama.
Let ye who is without relationship issues cast the first stake. Also, I love the idea that Faith watches old black and white movies when she’s alone.
If this episode aired today, what would the grown-ups be regressing into? Would it all be ‘80s and ‘90s stuff?
