Just when this show couldn't sink any lower, they managed it by crossing it over with more garbage.

@taomyn Calling an episode with animation garbage....Kinda ironic from the guy with a puppet for an avatar.....

A show trying to be something it's not. It's empty and lacks a spirit.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

i just found a trailer here: https://www.imdb.com/video/vi2836448025?ref_=vp_rv_ap_0 This is no spoiler, because there is not the slightest hint on the plot in this trailer... Even the listed actors in trakt reveals few: Tyra, Oren are new characters without reference to the books of J.R.R. Tolkien (not even in "Silmarillion"). But i think it is pretty clear, that this movie takes place earlier than "The lord of the rings"

loading replies

@handykl It's not a Movie. Of course it takes place before LOTR it's about the forging of the rings.....

This show would be so much better without Butcher.

@joaomsneto Butcher is best thing about it, and he's British! Yay! Without him there is no show!

1883: 1x06 Boring The Devil

I guess I missed the scene where they came upon a salon and she got her roots done and her hair lightened even more. They forgot her brows though, oops. They go to such great lengths to make some look authentic and dirty and then some just stick out like sore thumbs with how clean and enhanced they are. I really like the show but details like that really take me out of it.

loading replies

@tesomayn Hard to say what is'authentic' with no one alive to tell you, and only scant accounts from actual people who lived it. They do far better than the movies and of the 50s and 60s! In Bonanza the Cartwrights wore the same clothes for 10years without dirt or a single patch! :-)

Seemed a bit out of character that he didn’t shoot that guy when he said he would., for a man that’s killed as much as him and that the man means nothing surely he would have killed him to send the message to the group., interesting though that he didn’t. I really think he’s doing the group a disservice though, he should gather them all together and give them a beginners guide, like watch out for snakes under trees, boil the water before drinking it, if you steal them you’re out; he’s kept a ton of useful lifesaving info under his hat and then when people die he says here’s the lesson! These people know nothing so TELL THEM you idiot. Otherwise, I like the show, they really shoulda stayed where they were though.

loading replies

He told them of snakes, water, etc via the German speaker at the meeting in the saloon before they set out.........

People keep voting without any episode is out, is kind of ignorant.

That said, I'm really happy about this and can't wait to see it. It's from Sheridan who's the mind behind Yellowstone, one of my favorite shows. The trailer looked good.

WandaVision: 1x02 Don't Touch That Dial

[7.7/10] Another really entertaining episode. This is more explicitly doing Bewitched and 1960s sitcoms, and there’s a lot of sheer entertainment to be had from a riff on tropes of odd couples trying to fit into their idyllic neighborhoods.

I also appreciate the recognition of classic sitcom tropes and how they’d evolved in the subsequent decades. That goes beyond just the different decor in Wanda and Vision’s home. We see them walk outside and go seemingly on location, beyond the confines of a single set. We also see many more people of color populating their white picket fence town. It’s small details, but they add up to show change.

The notion of Wanda trying to impress Dottie, the queen bee of the neighborhood (Emma Caufield, aka Anya from Buffy the Vampire Slayer), and Vision to get in good with the neighborhood watch, so as to further their joint initiative to fit in works as a great premise for the episode. There’s a lot of humor to be wrung from off-beat Wanda trying to fit in with the Stepford-esque ladies under Dottie’s purview, and awkward square Vision accidentally fitting in with the guys of the watch.

What’s more, the set piece of the two of them trying to pull off a magic act at the local talent show, where Vision is functionally drunk due to some literal gum in the works, and Wanda has to work to make people think it isn’t magic, is fantastic. There’s a great, frantic energy to the whole routine, and both Olsen and Bettany play it to the hilt.

This was also a great episode for stray lines. The running gag of people chanting “For The Children” in unison brought a lot of yuks. The poor mustached man from the prior episode going “That was my grandmother’s piano” when Wanda turns it into a wooden standee was a solid laugh. And one of the housewives in the audience asking “Is that how mirror’s work?” when Wanda uses them to try to explain Vision’s phasing hat trick had me rolling in the aisles.

But it’s not all laughs. There’s more horror at the edge of the frame that’s done quite well. The presence of an airplane that’s visibly Iron Man’s colors seems to shock Wanda as revealing that something’s wrong here. When Wanda assures Dottie that she doesn’t mean any harm, Dottie says “I don’t believe you,” in genuinely frightened tones, while a strange voice cuts through the radio, causing her to break a glass and bleed fluid that likewise breaks through the black and white color scheme. It’s another superbly done unnerving moment.

There’s also some interesting lines that have double meanings that are quickly glossed over, like their new friend saying “I don’t know why I’m here,” seemingly referring to the garden party, but also suggesting she’s been wrapped into this fantasy world somehow and doesn’t know why. There’s a lot of little bits of dialogue that work like that in this one, and it’s fascinating.

We also see and hear some loud thumping, played for laughs in the “move the beds together” scene (another wink toward classic TV changes), but also witness it used for legitimate scares. There’s some frightening imagery when the man emerges from the sewers in a beekeeper outfit and more “Who’s doing this to you, Wanda?” calls are heard, especially when Wanda uses the power to rewind the tape. The advent of a pregnancy is an interesting development, and the arrival of color with their kiss is some great effects worth.

I’m nursing a theory that this is all part of Wanda coping with the loss of Vision, feeling sick or afflicted and unwittingly creating this fantasy world out of some kind of grief, wrapping more and more people into it. Whatever the answer, color me appropriately intrigued by the mystery, charmed by the pastiche, and appropriately disturbed at the hints of something deeply wrong with all of this.

loading replies

@andrewbloom “Rolling in the isles?” “Frightening imagery?” “Horror at the edge of the frame?” I was confused by this review until I saw the comment “Airplane visibly in Iron Man’s colours” it’s not an airplane, it’s a helicopter. You are obviously not seeing this show clearly. It’s unfunny, un-scary, pretentious rubbish!

His Dark Materials

As someone who hasn't read the book(s) I get the feeling, that there is information missing.

There are reactions in certain scenes where I don't understand what gets the characters so excited. They act like its obvious, while it isn't for the unknowing viewer.
I have the suspicion, that there is a section in the book explaining the reaction which wasn't translated in the show sometimes.

I don't know if its true, but are the daemons all female? If so, I hope it gets explained why that is (unless I missed it).

Aside from that, great cast, great storytelling and great characters so far - Although I somehow love Marisa best so far, cunning and evil - my kind of woman :)

Strike Back: 7x08 Revolution: Episode 8

How does Ep 7x08 Have an air date before Episodes 7x04 - 7x07 ...? There is something screwy with the airdates of this season. If I knew where and how to properly report the issue I would.

loading replies

@phatboyj Trakt is listing air dates according to the U.K. Sky tv schedule. It is also aired in the US by Cinemax, which is ahead of the Sky shows. I too have just watched ep8 online via the Cinemax showing. Trakt should really list shows by the first air date, which would be the Cinemax broadcast, unfortunately they are going by the later Sky listing, which is messing up my “Up Next” and calendar for shows. Looks like I’m not the only one pissed off by this!

Alita: Battle Angel

Alita: Battle Angel is like inviting all the coolest people to a Sunday afternoon kid's party.

Because the cast is there, but they get stuck in the muddy story lines and overshadowed by the monumental effects, which is a pity, really, because it's quite a cast. Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Christoph Waltz, Ed Skrein... and a cameo by Spoiler Alert!? In a movie directed by Robert Rodriguez and produced by James Cameron!?

You'll go for the CGI but you'll stay for the CGI because that's really all there is. The story, as is often the case with Rodriguez films, is a little all over the place and the plot changes more often than a model in a cheap fashion show. Then, once he's finally decided on an ending, he has to rush to get there before the film ends so the last 20 minutes has to hold all of the plot developments before giving up and deciding to prepare for the worst and hope for a sequel.

PS [and minor spoiler alert]: I did have some questions concerning the human boy and his relationship with with the cyborg teen. Because we saw her naked enough to know that she's as anatomically incorrect as a Barbie Doll, so... she has no port into which he might insert his flesh drive?

@saint-pauly Perhaps her ‘port’ opens up when she requires it to, like her chest when she held out her heart!

Fleabag

May not be everyone's cup of tea, but it is very funny (and crude) - typical British humour. 9/10

loading replies

@speeddemon I see you are in Canada. As a Brit I always feel an affinity with Canadians, we do have the same Queen after all lol. I find Canadians ‘get’ the British sense of humour, whereas the US sometimes struggles with it! Glad you likes Fleabag! The writer, and star of the show also wrote the very good Killing Eve- packed with dry, and wry humour!

Strike Back: 7x01 Episode 1

Something wrong with this listing - The new series (7 - Revolution) started on CINEMAX in the US on the 25th January 2019. A start date for SKY|1 in the UK hasn't been announced yet. (Edited, removed; This is the first time it's aired elsewhere before it's UK premiere).

loading replies

@trevskie Well Trakt adapted an now lists Stike Back on my upcoming shows and up next to watch, which I am greatful for. Being in the UK, we do not always get the shows we want, or like, sometimes for months after the US, so I watch all of my shows online. Trakt is therefore invaluable in letting me know what’s on when, and syncing with my Kodi episode lists. It really bugs me when Sky, Netflix, Amazon etc trumpet another “Sky exclusive” and it’s been shown two months before in the US!

Sex Education

without sound, you would think it was american, but they all speak British. where is it supposed to be? Could'nt stand enough of it to find out! utter garbage, waste of Gillian Andersons talent....but I suppose the money was good. Would have to be, to appear in such crap!

loading replies

@kugi Of course I do not say it’s garbage because it’s British! (I am a Brit myself, and well aware of our wealth of talent) I think you misunderstand me. I was simply questioning its rather odd appearance. The high school, for example was pure Americana, so I was somewhat confused as to where it was supposed to be. Was it in an England that somehow looked like America, or in America where everyone in the town just happened to be British, or what? No, the garbage was about the total waste of time and money making such utter drivel, whoever made it-British or American! Netflix seem to spend a lot on the production of its series and films, get some big names to star in them, yet the actual plots, etc I find, are the weak point of what they do. Boring, uninteresting, and nothing to grab ones attention. Don’t get me wrong, they do produce some good things- Polar, for example, was very entertaining, but Io, Birdbox, and numerous others are very disappointing. They make more junk than gems, imho, and Sex Education definitely falls in the junk category.
