At Eternity's Gate

"Maybe God made me a painter for people who aren't born yet."

Visually, this is a very compelling film that drips vibrance and grit like one of Van Gogh's paint brushes. Yet, I was left without an emotional conclusion — some scenes which are supposed to carry weigh were short and then abruptly transitioned to the next event. As an ardent fan of the artist, this fell slightly short for me.

Wonderful casts tho.

Holy fuck. Literally 5 mins into the series and already in tears. This is rough.

For a moment that day, this film managed to pull me out of the dark place I was. I am eternally grateful for it.

The Captain—deep-stabbed by a blade—rose up like a zombie to continue his pursue of the enemy, only to get shot again by multiple arrows and later, trapped himself in a burning house. All that and he is still alive.

Didn't know I had it in me to accept such absurdity.

Update (11 Feb): Unbearable. Dropped.

♪ Toss a coin to yer witcher—

It's a pity that they didn't take advantage of it being a TV series to add a few more details to the world building and the characters' arcs. The storytelling was rocky, not very convincing. Although I didn't mind the timeline jumps, they could've been done better. The pacing felt a lil off and each character’s arcs were distinctly different in tone, significantly undermined the sense of cohesiveness.

Not horrible but definitely has plenty of room for improvement.

That said, bring on Season 2 because I'd still be interested to check it out.

Chernobyl

“When the truth offends, we lie and we lie until we can no longer remember it is even there. But it is still there."

Chernobyl was a gripping experience through and through. All the theatrical elements—the screenwriting, acting, cinematography, sound design, art direction—were masterly put together, allowing one to immerse in an unadulterated realism. To feel as if you were there. To feel the anxious pressure of impending doom, the hollow throb of death and the numb of hopeless devastation.

The phenomenal storytelling and the entire experience lifted this series above the rest for me. Every scene carries a weight and not a second is wasted in its run-time.

Don't remember what this show was even about anymore (pretty sure it was awesome). All I remember was crushing hard on Jessica Alba after like the first episode.
