I never want to watch it again. Haunted me like Hereditary. One of the best horror-movies of the last 10 years.
A beautiful vibrant and real way to spend a quarter of an hour in early sixties Santiago, Cuba. You're keenly aware by the end of the immense loss of Sara Gómez at so young an age - after this and her feature film, what could have been ? A sad thought but this film throbs not with sadness but with life!
We're so lucky to have a restoration of this.
Surprisingly few (bloodless) kills and not really scary but great fun with friends/family. Probably boring for those who have already seen all chucky-movies or hundreds of horror movies, but a well made movie for everyone else.
This is a family-friendly film about children discovering that they have superhero-powers.
"Violent Night" is more fun that the critics would let you believe. There are many plot-holes (and not just the one with the "christmas-magic") and a few cringly-scenes, but overall the acting is pretty solid and the action and gore are great. This could become your new yearly christmas-flick. Just send the kids to bed before.
A few good laughs and ideas, but all in all pretty average. Okay with kids or if you like animated movies.
Way better than expected. Worth a watch. But at least watch the Original first.
One of the best anti-war movies of all time. I was shaking and had heart racing the whole run-time.
One of the most memorable cinema-experiences I ever had. After the credits rolled, no one made a move for two minutes. Everyone sat quietly and thought about what they had seen. At one point early in the movie almost everyone had also stopped eating their popcorn.
Watch it in Cinema if you can. Watch it in german if you can. Watch it in german with subtitles if you must. Or wait for it's Netflix-Release. But watch "All Quiet on the Western Front" no matter what. And learn from it.
One of the most intense movies you'll ever see.
Some say "Athena" has little substance in terms of Story. While this may be true, this didn't stop films like "The Raid" to be great either. Athena has strong imagery and an impressive 10 minute opening-"plan-séquence". Sadly it couldn't hold my attention the full runetime. Amazing camera-work too.
As good as movies get. A film for the ages. "Cinema Paradiso" is a love letter to Cinema. And one of it's greatest.
Wholesame, fun family-movie. Sadly not without (Story-)flaws. Along with "Catch Me If You Can" (2002) one of Spielbergs more friendlier movies he wanted to shoot after the Events of 9/11 to lift the mood in the country and the world.
The Story is loosely based/inspired by the real-life-events of Mehran Karimi Nasseri (and his book "The Terminal Man" from the same year as the movie), an Iranian refugee who lived at the departure lounge of the Charles de Gaulle Airport for 18 years, from 1988 until 2006.
Fast-paced John-Wick-esque Action-Movie. Great, mindless fun with many superb violence and action scenes. Too bad they don't make many Action-Movies like this anymore. Was great to see Christopher Lloyd as well.
One of the most powerful, well crafted, well acted and brutal movies ever made. A once in a lifetime experience. "The Passion of the Christ" will leave you speechless and crying.
Most fun I had with a Halloween Movie since the Original and Halloween III. I don't get the critics and ratings, I liked it even more than the previous movie. David Gordon Green just knows what Halloween and MM is all about. Great job.
I knew this movie was not well received, but this is something else...
What were they thinking? This is all they came up with after 10 years (since the first film and well... 6 years after Season 9)?
Avoid this movie, watch the first one and the Show and skip straight to Seasion 10.
It's just boring, pointless, cringe and has barely anything to do with the X-Files, except the Cast.
The Tribe, I mean Hollywood, is trying so hard to start a race war
Summary:
All Women = good, all men = bad
Pure fanservice, for all the others it might be just another Slasher Z Movie
"It is like a movie made by an alien, who has never seen a movie, but has had movies thoroughly explained to him."
Most depressing Zombie-Movie I've ever seen, nonetheless a first-class ride
Evolution of a Filipino Family was directed by the Filipino independent director Lav Diaz who is well know for making his films unwieldy long and Evolution of a Filipino Family, who was shot over a period of eleven years, makes no exception, in fact it is his longest movie to date and even the fourth longest of all time.
I just saw it in one sitting to get the most out of it and obiously it takes a lot of patience and willingness by the viewer. Diaz is one of the most well known "slow cinema"-directors, which means they are pretty minimalistic (black & white, lack of mentionable soundtrack etc. pp.) but at the same time monumental (640 minutes long). He tells his storys pretty slow, like they would appear in real life, for example we see people working on the fields which, of course, takes it's time, or when they are eating dinner in the evening in silence for ten minutes, then so it is. That's because Diaz wants to capture reality and make movies apart of Hollywood superhero-movies and sadly that is one reason why only few people know his works, apart from hardcore-cineasts.
But what is it about? We follow the storys from a three-generation family over the period of 16 years who have to deal with such things as dictatorship, poverty, crime or dealing with people with a disability. Evolution of a Filipino Family shows political circumstances and changes in the Philippines from the 70s and 80s, so a little common knowledge especially about Ferdinand Marcos is helpful, but not necessary.
I'm highly interested in "lost media" and Big and Little Wong Tin Bar, notable for being Jackie Chan's film debut, was lost or at least incomplete for a really long time until a few months ago the full movie was uploaded on Youtube.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__1xiVlz2Yg (black & white and without watermarks, sadly it still needs to be subbed)
David Lynch's movies are not easy to review, in fact I think words can not describe Surrealist "movies" generally speaking. Yeah I put that by purpose in brackets because they are not like ordinary movies where you expect a clear storyline, character development, an appropriate soundtrack and so on, but here you really have to feel them and be in the correct mood, have enough concentration and be open minded and patient.
You can ask ten people what Eraserhead is about and you'll get ten different answers, so there is no really 'get it' or right or wrong rather a lot room for interpretation and conjecture.
Anyway Eraserhead is David Lynch's first feature-length film after a row of short movies which are exactly what you think they are, really Lynch-like. We find ourselfs trapped in a black and white, dystopian world at an unkown time and follow the Story of Henry Spencer (Jack Nance) who impregnates his girlfriend and she gives birth to a malformed baby. overchallenged and desperate by that situation she leaves Henry with the baby alone.
That's basically the main storyline and everything that is obvious and clear, adding more to that would be kind of a spoiler and is open to everyone's imagination anyhow.
The Invisible Man filmed by James Whale two years after Frankenstein was way ahead of it's time, I was really blown away by the special affects who easily still hold up even over 80 years later!
The Story follows the young and intelligent Dr. Griffins (played by Claude Rains in his American Film Debut), so to say the 'Monster' of this film, who discovered the secret of invisibility and tested it on himself. The Problem is that he don't know how to reverse the power, so he abalienate himself to an faraway tavern, his face swathed in bandages and his eyes obscured by dark goggles, to exeperiment. His appearence naturally arrest attention and slowly the byeffect of his self-attempt become clear: he gets evil and superior, killing more and more people and sees him eventually getting chased by the police and villagers...
To be honest I watch a lot of older movies and they mostly haven't aged very well or can't be viewed by 'casual' movie watchers today, like others movie classics of that era (for example "The Mummy" or even "Dracula") but this easily holds up and is a lot of fun even today. Like I said the special effects really stand out and are really impressive. Besides that is the atmosphere, camera, excessive characters, slapstick, story and even action very well done, definitely one of the best movies of 1933.
Holy shit, what a trip. Way better than I thought after reading all those reviews.
Tanks, Choppers, Cyborgs, Telekinesis, Flamethrowers, Boobs, Awesome Choreography, Gore, All kinds of weapons and good music, now that's what I call a Action-Movie.
Truly a unique experience which we never have seen before in this kind (and probably won't will in a long time).
One of the few movies, where I really want to see a sequel.
Listed as one of the 1001 Movies you have to see before you die and this movies is actually pretty hard to find, this is the only source I found (previous youtube uploads were all deleted) https://vk.com/video-17894528_163037444
Just comment here, if it's deleted in the future and I will re-upload it somewere else asap
Great opening and cast, but the rest of the movie is rather dull except for a few single scenes. I'd rather watch "Heat" (1995) again instead of this.
They tried too hard at the end, the last 15 minutes feel like they belong to an completely different film. But besides that "10 Cloverfield Lane" is a decent and mysterious sequel to a surprisingly good film.
(And like others mentioned here before, it's better to watch it without knowing anything about; e.g. trailers, but actually that should count for every movie...right?)
Damn it, Tarantino did it again. Shortest three hours of my life. And at the end I was like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAryFIuRxmQ
One of the most controversial movies of all time due to it's anti-black racism and the fact that this film inspired the formation of the 2nd Ku Klux Klan in the same year, but it's also a very innovative film from the early years of cinema, as seen in it's running time of 190 minutes (it was the longest movie until then), the impressive battle scenes of the American Civil War, many technical improvements like tracking shots, movie shots at night (thanks to magnesium flares) and the immense production costs at it's time of $100.000.
So, obviously this film isn't for everyone, but I recommend it to people who are interested in the history of film, likes silent movies or simply want a deeper look in the events about the Civil War/Reconstruction Era or the founding of the KKK.
