Going into this movie, I thought that Victor would end up with Emily. I was pretty sad that it didn't end with them together, but I understood Emily's reason for not being able to go through with it. That scene honestly almost made me tear up.
Mumblecore art-house psychological horror your jam? Not sure many will raise their hand, but if you did this should be a go-to. For a 90 minute film, it unfortunately dragged in a few spots, but there were some great moments of contemplative beauty, dark humor, and existential dread. I'd caution against watching this unless you are specifically looking for something really out there, because it's a unique experience that may come across as unwatchable to some.
Enter the Void. This is definitely one of the most original movies I've ever seen. The entire movie is like one giant trip.
You experience the world through the eyes of drug dealer who gets killed, and after he dies, you wander the Earth as his soul, watching the drama unfold between the characters whose lives were affected by this tragedy. The actinng from the main character and Paz de la Huerta were great as well as many of the supporting actors.
The cinematography was fantastic with many shots that made me think "How in the hell did they accomplish that?" Time and effort was definitely put into this movie to make it as fluid and trippy as possible. I have to of course talk about the use of colors in this movie. The director did a great job to use color as much as possible to not only contrast the situation the characters were in but to also match with the emotions being felt and the create a sort of ethereal vibe to the entire movie. Each choice the director made for color was meaningful and very welcomed on my part.
It also has one of the best opening credits of any movie ever. This is a must see.
Easily one of the best movies ever made! Have watched over 6 times and still cant say no to watch it again!
As good as movies get. A film for the ages. "Cinema Paradiso" is a love letter to Cinema. And one of it's greatest.
The last 10 minutes made me cry (real tears coming down my face and cheeks) this is such a beautiful piece of Cinema, it made my heart melt..
and Ennio Moricone's music made it 10 times better
The rating should at least be in the 90s for sure! Very inspiring movie for me personally. If you have an idea you are trying to get off the ground, watch this movie, then you will start working on it immediately after. Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross do an amazing job with the soundtrack. Interesting note that approximately 83% of trakt has been coded while listening to this soundtrack :)
Phenomenal. A must see film before you die :relaxed:
Total classic! An emotional rollercoaster (intrigued by Jack Nicholson, angry at the nurse, excited about the escape, laughing at the boat trip, sad about some patients, amazed by the Chief etc etc) that very few movies can match. Great acting, great story, great filming, great setting, great everything; it just all comes together in this film. Everyone should see this at least once! At least!
An epic tale of courage and heart, Mel Gibson at it's best.
Wholesame, fun family-movie. Sadly not without (Story-)flaws. Along with "Catch Me If You Can" (2002) one of Spielbergs more friendlier movies he wanted to shoot after the Events of 9/11 to lift the mood in the country and the world.
The Story is loosely based/inspired by the real-life-events of Mehran Karimi Nasseri (and his book "The Terminal Man" from the same year as the movie), an Iranian refugee who lived at the departure lounge of the Charles de Gaulle Airport for 18 years, from 1988 until 2006.
Fast-paced John-Wick-esque Action-Movie. Great, mindless fun with many superb violence and action scenes. Too bad they don't make many Action-Movies like this anymore. Was great to see Christopher Lloyd as well.
Michael Keaton's character is a low lying manipulative sack of human shit that deserves to die in the worst possible way. Burger King forever.
I will never go Mcdonalds.
It's actually a sad story, how quality became quantity... Pretty sure the first burgers weren't rubbish like nowadays.
Young Christian Bale is still a pretty great actor and looks exactly the same. The movie starts strong but drags a little after they get to the camp. It seemed a little unfocused about what exactly it wanted to be. Still I enjoyed it.
Movies should be rated highly if they succeed in being what they want to be, not what you want them to be. Sky Sharks wanted to be a CGI heavy, tongue in cheek, over the top, ridiculous, WTF-y B-Movie and it succeeded gloriously.
A cross between Kung Fury and Dead Snow, this movie is so far over the top you won't be able to breathe from lack of oxygen. Sky Sharks is buoyed by a lofty soundtrack of metal and country rock, though held down by some uneven acting. Fortunately, we so rarely see the actors beneath the cartoon levels of CGI that the lack of talent is barely noticeable.
I'm not crazy about conceptual/abstract art in general. My problem with that is that it always feels like what you'd be doing for yourself, not the audience, so you can make sure the story is told in a new and interesting way. But every once in a while something like that really works, and here is one of them.
The weird jumps for characters in this actually helps tell the story like what you might go through in that death phase. Your mind is not controlled by logic and physical limitations all the time. If you think about it like a dream, this is very similar. You never question how you suddenly got to some totally different location. You just go with it and live the moment you're in.
That's why I love this movie. As a depiction of what going through death might be like, this film does it so well. I'll admit, the beginning starts just ok, but I love the second half a lot. That's where we see differences in embracing our 'main' character.
Certainly check it out if you haven't seen it, but just make sure you're in the right mood. I don't think this is a 'chill out after a hard day's work' movie.
One of the most powerful, well crafted, well acted and brutal movies ever made. A once in a lifetime experience. "The Passion of the Christ" will leave you speechless and crying.
Mel Gibson delivers a raw and uncompromising vision of the Crucifixion in The Passion of the Christ that takes it out of mythology and makes it an experience that cannot be forgotten. The film forces the audience to go through the suffering and death of Jesus of Nazareth on a visceral level unlike anything that has been done before. It’s extraordinarily emotionally draining, drawing the audience in so as to feel every whiplash and every nail of the cross. The imagery is haunting and is assisted by the use of the Aramaic language to create a completely immersive experience that transcends film. The Passion of the Christ isn’t entertainment, not by any stretch of the imagination, but instead acts as a Rorschach test that challenges the audience.
Brutal and tough to watch... Whether you believe or not doesn't matter...there is no denying that Jesus Christ was the fuckin mannn...he took an ass whoopin for what he believed in... coulda rolled over and died like a punk, and just gave up but they tortured his ass to death and he not only didn't give in, he forgave too? He's a stronger man than I...I woulda asked my father to rain down hellfire and brimstone and that sequel would be 'hot' as hell bahahaha
A master piece to show us what Christ suffered for our sins, for the salvation of the entire world.
Fucking hell, this guy is such an artist. His talent is unlimited, and that's kinda scary ... for him. I hope he stays strong. For his sake.
I watch this once a year on average. It keeps me motivated for the gym.
These guys had the best physiques in bodybuilding history. Now they look like freaks, then they were 'super men'.
Arnold's charisma is evident. I feel sorry for the portrayal given to Lou Ferrigno. It's sad that Frank Zane didn't wish to partake more in this as he was in unbelievable shape. I didn't appreciate the Mike Katz 'invented storyline'.
And to see Franco Columbu in his prime was poignant this year. RIP Franco.
7/10 - seminal work, but it's a cheap 70s documentary about bodybuilding so that's as high as it can go really!
I just wonder what the hell was in their minds to accept filming a movie like this. Terrible.
This was horrible. Not even coming close to being funny at any time during the "movie". Save yourself the torture of watching this one.
When the most hated sonic design becomes his own character and becomes the best part of a movie that isn't even his.
A great film for all the generations. So many nods, throwbacks and references for every generation of film. From old Rescue Rangers (like myself) and new ones alike. I had genuine laughs from modern day references as well as some great fun spotting older things
The plot may be a bit overused but the film knows this and doesn't take itself so seriously, which really adds to the quality
This film was great fun. My inner child and outer adult loved it.
Long live the Rescue Rangers!
