Where is the 11th heart for this episode?
I was so tense when the x-wing appeared and I was holding my breath for the whole fight. When he pulls of the hood I couldn't help but crying.
Even if the show would stop right there I would be very happy. But I am also very eager to see what comes next.
It's going to be a long year.
And this, dear writers of contemporary Star Trek, is how you handle a topic like that.
I'm, sadly, not surprised about the rating (68 % at the time of writing) and some comments in regards to this episode. To each his own but I thouroghly enjoyed it.
It was past overdue that Klyden left the ship. I never liked him but there was no way after this he could have stayed. Don't think we've seen the last of him.
Bortus still hasn't performed "My Heart Will Go On"
Holy......what an episode. I had not expected such fireworks. The title is a spoiler in itself but we knew it would happen at some point anyway. If Fett would habe been half as good in the movies I'd cared about Mandalorians much earlier.
So, will a Jedi answer and if so who will ot be? Someone new or someone we know? Man, I hope this show will go on for many, many years.
On one episode of "Band of Brothers" I once wrote that no show or documentary can ever relate what it means to be in battle. But this episode was tense, it was frantic and you can get an idea what these men went through. And you really have to be amazed that they did it again and again.
The airbattle scenes in this show are through the roof. It's not all about the action, though. We are reaching a point now where losses are becoming more meaningful for the viewer.
Another tense and emotional episode. It's phantastic how they manage to keep the balance between the action sequences and the personal stories.
The air battles, already among the best I've ever seen, were once again great. The short slo-mo/time freeze was awesome. So was the fight between the Fort and these fighters. I don't know if something like this ever happened but it sure was a great sequence. But despite all that you never forget that those people were really in that. You flinch when the bullets rip through the fuselage, you wince when someone is hurt. And you feel kinda empty when they sit through the interrogation counting down the losses.
What can I say that I haven't already said about this show ? Every new episode grabs me like none do today. I have a lump in my throat everytime the end credits start to roll.
They made the right choice by not showing us extended action scenes at this point. We already covered that, we know what it's like up in the air. I found it very gripping to see what happened on base, with the new arrivals, when the planes come back, and what the pilots think about it at this point in time. It makes me shiver but it althought gives depth and scope.
This was a crucial time during the war. When the Mustang appeard the Luftwaffe's days were numbered. But like it's shown here it also meant a shift in strategy.
I have no doubt the final episodes will be great.
All things considered I am very satisfied with how the show stands. I am even a bit sad that it has ended. But it did so on it's own terms and gave us a worthy finale. I am even at peace with Ezra now. Aside from the fact, he had to either die or dissapear for the sake of continuity.
I was a bit taken on the wrong foot because I had this listed as a two parter and not a double length single episode which made me wonder while watching what could come after that. Stupid me.
There are some little elements I want to address.
Palpatine projecting himself in white and with a healthy look was a bit too much. Trying to portray the Good Samaritian who has only Ezras best interest at heart does not fit. At this point I'd rather expect him to force Ezra to open the portal.
And I'd like to know how Hondo's friend didn't die of the blaster shot. It seems it didn't effect him at all.
As much as I was very happy to see Ahsoka at the end, this meaning she'll survive to at least after the death of the Emperor, I don't think it was a good idea to peak into the future. Of course Ezra can't come back until, well, actually until after Rise of Skywalker. But we have now established that Ahsoka, Hera, Sabine and Rex will survive until after Endor. Meaning if they appear in other shows (and we already know some will) they can't die. And at least in the case of Ahsoka this presents somewhat of a continuity problem. If she was arround during the whole time of the Rebellion why had we never heard of her ? Given that she had become very powerful herself in the Force, should she not have sensed Luke, Anakins flesh and blood. The only somewhat satisfying answer would be she lay veerrryyyy low.
Since she's become such a popular character I am sure we'll know the answer at some point.
Probably the only time I agree with Ezra being Ezra. Even if it meant he ultimately led Maul to Kenobi. But it had to happen. I admit I was skeptical when Maul got raised from the dead. I liked him in Phantom but I did not see the possible potential he could have. I'll also admit that he brought a lot to the table during the course of Clone Wars and Rebels.
I am not sure if I am dissapointed or thrilled by the way Obi-Wan was able to finish Maul off. You could make an argument for both. There was a lot of anticipation on my side and the scene was building up strong. And if you'd blinked in the wrong moment you might miss it.
I read the other comments right now while writing this and ultimately have to agree it was the right way to do. We know wo wins this fight anyway so why stretch it out.
The final scene was again heartwarming for an old Star Wars fan (of course it could also be for any younger fan).
It's an interesting question that's been asked here. Could Ahsoka have prevented Anakin from turning to the dark side if she hadn't left the Jedi? Of course that was never a question until now because she was never part of the movies. In any case I think this is to be interpreted as her taking blame for what happened to him. She thinks she failed him, asks herself, or even is convinced, she could have stopped him. That of course means that she is now admitting that Anakin has indeed become Darth Vader.
It was great to see Vader at the end. Personally I always thought he's not used enough., I could watch a whole series with him.
I always loved Star Wars. From the moment Leias ship appeared on screen and got hunted by Vaders destroyer I was hooked.
It is so great to see shows like Clone Wars and now Rebels who brought so much more depth to the SW universe. The storytelling is amazing and I found myself again being mesmerized by the events on screen now 40 years later.
The clash between Ahsoka and Vader was something I've been looking forward to and I was not dissapointed. Anakin caling her name through his broken mask is a moment to remember. Something other SW installments are sadly lacking. If you've followed both their journeys you can't help but feel pain for how they ended up facing each other. This was a fight neither could win no matter what the outcome would have been. Each of them would have lost.
This looks so amazing (which isn't enough comment so here is the rest).
Lots of goosbumps in this one. All those voices from the different eras - that was heartwarming.
I really like the idea of what's being introduced here but it had to be destroyed. This is too much of a huge thing to add to canon what would ultimately lead to tons of problems moving forward. This would ultimately enable Disney to re-write Star Wars much like JJ Abrams did with Star Trek. But as a story tool it worked well for the moment.
I guess that meant then that Vader initially really killed Ahsoka. Since it is the old Ezra who pulls her out it hadn't happened, yet. Right ? Time is a *****. Also great that he didn't brought Kanan back, too. Not only was it the right thing to do (pulling him out, like Ahsoka said, would have meant killing the rest of them and, ultimately, Ahsoka, too), it would have made his sacrifice null and void. Even if it was genuine because Kanan could never have known that Ezra will be there.
Supplemental:
What I would really like to know is if this came all out of Dave's mind or if he based this on something George had planned. I'm sure they talked about it anyway so I'll just assume there is something from GL in it as well.
I am not nearly as attached to those characters as I am to the ones from others shows/movies. Which is partly due to the fact I'am watching this for the first time. But Sabine was actually one I began to like. I am sure she will come back at some point, or the story will come back to her as I am sure this starts another sideplot.
Got a lump in my throat and some tears welling up at the end of this episode/show. Best series I've watched in years.
Sadly the show ended on a sour note.
With hopes of renewal they decided to go with the cliffhanger and the rest is history. In any case I always thought it would have been better to have Alf escape and close the show out that way. Even as a cliffhanger this was a bad idea. I mean, where would they have gone from here ?
I saw an interview with Anne Shedeen lately where she talked about the making of the show. How difficult it was for the actors. She said that Max Wright did exactly one take for the final scene and then went of the stage without another word and never looked back. He was very bitter at this point.
I hope he realized before he passed away how much we loved him and that the show wouldn't have been the same without him as Willie.
This is an eleven heart episode.
I really love it when the stories do have a personal touch to it. Makes you connect with the characters more. And you know that deep down inside Alf has a good heart.
I'm a grown man but I almost start crying when Ahsoka appears. I've nothing against Dawson but this is the Ahsoka I love. There, I said it.
And now, Vader also makes his entrance laying the path for so many oppertunities moving forward. And if you still think this is just a casual Star Wars show for kids/teens I don't know what will change your mind.
And can we take a moment to appreciate the beautiful animation of the Star Destroyers over Mustafa ? The characters might look a bit arkward (I do like them, though) I think especially the scenes in space are amazing.
When I watched this show the first time, this was the episode I thought: this isn't just an entertaining teen show. It's a powerful and emotional episode.
Both, Kanan (who definitely has a clouded past) and Ezra are afraid to fail the other among many things. And both get the guidance of none other then Master Yoda himself to face their fears and leave them behind. Goosebump moment hearing Yoda speak.
I think Ahsoka knows who Vader is. At least she suspects. If he can sense her she should sense him.
For me, Neal never worked. Which is probably the reason why he only appeared in five episodes. But you need other persons for Alf to interact with which is why they kept bringing them in I guess.
The pregnancy of Kate, and the resulting addition of baby Eric, was never a real favorite of mine. But Since Anne Schedeen got pregnant it was either writing it in or her out. And of those two I prefer the first.
There are scenes, even though you know they are coming, you can't help but burst into laughter. You don't know what scene I'm talking about ?
zut alors
Bill Daily was great in "Jeannie". And I like him here, too.
Alf's 229 years old and his phase comes every 75 years. Maybe there's a different measurement of time on Melmac ?
That was a really good arc.
Anne Meara was a great addition to the cast. The dynamic between Grandma and Alf is hilarious.
Max Wright was so amazing in this show. In hindsight I wonder if his rage against Alf was sometimes somewhat for real considering what you read about the mood on the set.
Without doubt one of the best ALF episodes.
This episode came way to early. You never believe for a second Alf's going to leave in episode seven. Plus, the family talking about his misdeeds with just so little time passed since his arrival felt of.
