The Autopsy of Jane Doe meets The Thing. Practical effects at their best it looked amazing and realistic. Turned my stomach a few times. Great atmosphere, great story and an interesting character. Loved the outcome of the autopsy and what it turned out to be. Truly memorable! Best episode so far.
Watched it with my cat. I highly recommend if you're a cat person like me I learned a lot from this fun documentary. Cats are the best! Meow
"Those are... flamingos."
What in the nonplussed, haunting soliloquy was that?! Went in completely blind and that was the right choice. It felt like watching an M. Night Shyamalan movie. It's essentially a psychological drama comedy with a "mysterious event" happening in the background—a great mix! The characters are interesting, the drama works because of this and some well-placed sharp comedy. It's weird, creepy and the mystery is intriguing.
This was actually my first time seeing Julia Roberts in a movie and she was hilarious. Really good acting from everyone. Myha'la is a newfound favorite. Simple yet effective suspenceful score, artistic visuals, nice camerawork and editing. The back and forth between two suspenceful scenes technique is done really well here. Incredible how many themes this movie tackles, there's always something to disect on-screen.
Some weird nonsensical character decisions that are a bit frustrating at times. Too long of a runtime which would make a rewatch difficult, it was totally possible to trim down. Favorite moments are the boat scene and the Tesla scene—on the edge of my seat! I thought the ending was perfect. There are sooo many clues and hints dropped throughout the movie that there's no way it could feel unresolved at the end.
I've never watched Friends
Beautiful animation and great story! So much attention to detail on the tech and the gadgets it really fells like sci-fi. Loved the time jumps and everything they did with that making it multi-generational made it compelling and emotional. It has some Star Wars vibes at times. SOX the cat steals the show he was so funny. I would be open to a sequel or a Woody movie.
Guillermo del Toro brings the best Pinocchio yet in this carefully handcrafted stop-motion adaptation. It feels very del Toro and you can see the love and passion that was put into it. The stop-motion animation is some of the most beautiful i've seen it has a distinctive appearance and the movements are fluid I forgot it was animation at times. Such an impressive cast they all did amazing and Ewan McGregor as Jiminy Cricket (or should I say Sabastian J. Cricket) was absolute perfection. It deals with father son relationships, family, staying true to yourself, self-acceptance and more mature themes like death and what it means to be human. The story is rich and layered and it's easy to get an emotional attachment. One thing they did right this time is they added so much backstory and context to how Pinocchio was created it really immersed me into the character and the world. Guillermo's usual aesthetics are felt and they make this even better I loved the sea creature and the darker themes. My only criticism is the songs could of been better and they weren't memorable but at least we got Ewan McGregor to sing. Overall a beautiful film I would definitely revisit. Did we get another Pinocchio this year I can't remember?
The more ridiculous, the better!
If I had to criticise this on a technical level it would probably be a 5 or a 6 but with the Fast & Furious franchise is all about entertainment/fun, over-the-top absurdity and self-aware cheese—and so, it's an 8. By far the best experience i've had with any film in the franchise, I had so much fun and the 2h22 flew by. It's 2h22 of no script, a whole lot of action and a shit ton of FAMILY. Fast X not only has some of the best car action sequences we've seen in the franchise yet but it also has the most action out of all of them, it's non-stop!
Everything in Rome with the ball was one of, if not my favorite sequence in the franchise. The hand-to-hand fights were epic. I didn't like John Cena in F9 but in this one he was one of my favorites (even though he's playing a completely different character) and his sidequest with the kid was heartwarming and some of my favorite scenes. Jason Momoa is the star! He looks like he's having the time of his life playing this insanely over-the-top villain. Best villain in the franchise yet. Charlize Theon really shines in this one, Brie Larson was a good addition and I want more Statham.
Too many subplots happening at once (even though it kinda fits with the theme of going over-the-top in every aspect), the transition between scenes is so sudden/hyperactive, the acting is iffy, the dialogue is ridiculous and some character arcs feel barely touched upon. The tone feels like a kids cartoon and that's a quality. I had a blast, can't wait for the next two parts. Highly recommend watching it in IMAX.
"All art is propaganda."
Blown away. How can a superhero show about a 13 feet tall man become such a vessel at exposing capitalism and make you realize how grim the world is?! Not only that but the sci-fi fantasy elements are top notch. It essentially feels like The Boys where you have people with powers but every power the characters have felt like a political or social commentary of some sort, my favorite has to be Flora (Olivia Washington) being too fast for the world meant she had to slow down. Some really good humor throughout too, especially when Walton Goggins is around. The animated segments make South Park look like child's play. So stylish and creative with the world building and the visuals. The effects for Cootie are well-made they never really faltered. Felt very isolated and claustrophobic in the first episodes. Enjoyed every character. Awesome ending. I want more!
Boyoyoyoyoying
Brendan Fraser gives his all in this heartbreaking performance, a sublime control over his eyes with the ability to demonstrate pure kindness. I couldn't help it, I was immediately moved by his character and when Sadie Sink's character comes in it's where the magic happens. A clash between teen angst and fatherly love, The Whale explores themes of family, faith and honesty. A look at morbid obesity which felt crude and touching but I have to say some scenes felt purposefully comedic?? Every character interactions from the support cast felt meaningfull and elevated Charlie's character. Great performances, claustrophobic setting, peak father daughter drama and I swear I could smell that appartment. The ending might feel over-the-top for some but i'm on board with it. I got emotional in the last 15 minutes or so, felt cathartic and dug out my empathy.
"What's the worst thing you've ever experienced?"
Wow! What a great surprise I wasn't prepared for something so good and refreshing. This is a dark and gloomy crime mystery thriller with a touch of horror and sci-fi. It brings an array of interesting characters, well-built suspence and some highly emotional moments. I cried twice watching this which is a lot for me. The acting is great and so is the soundtrack that eerie music is simple but yet so effective. Brillant intro music and visuals also. The mystery is very engaging and makes the 6 episodes go by so fast. The last episode is pure acting masterclass!
The characters are so interesting and by far what I loved the most about the show. Jessica Raine and Peter Capaldi are at their best and every conversation their characters have together is almost poetic, stellar dialogue. Capaldi wasn't in the show as much as I wanted but his limited appearance makes you enjoy him all the more when he's there. Anytime he talks it's pure poetry, you just can't look away. Every good mystery show needs a cool detective character and we certainly get that Nikesh Patel as Det. Dhillon was truly great, the impersonnation of a good man I believe. My personal favorite is Isaac (Benjamin Chivers) the creepy kid. While child acting is always tricky to judge, every time he's on-screen I just can't look away. He doesn't show much facial expression but his look remains haunting and mysterious.
I would absolutely call this the best limited series of the year if Black Bird didn't also come out in the same year.
I'll be honest I wasn't aware Al Yankovic existed, never really heard a song from him. I have no idea if some of the events are true or an absolute parody of reality but the last third of the movie is clearly fiction. It's not from my generation but I had an absolute blast of a fun time with this!
Pretty much everyone is perfectly cast; Daniel Radcliffe's really got it! He's hilarious, weird and emotional when needed. There's so many fun cameos throughout and they're all well done and relevant to the story. The humor is well-written there's lots of funny and clever one-liners. There's probably a few jokes I didn't get but if you're someone who lived during the 70s-80s there's lots of in-jokes. I think it's actually a movie for all ages you don't really need to be familiar with Weird Al to enjoy it!
A significant improvement from the first! You really feel like you're in the cockpit with them and it keeps you on the edge of your seat. The third act is absolutely wild. I wish I had gone to see this on the big screen from what i've heard it's a completely different experience.
Heck yeah that's how you make a comeback! Things are going darker I love that they put more horror/gore. Already love Eddie he's such a good addition to the show. The new villain looks great I like the more humanoïd look makes him seem like he could be more intelligent and be more of a challenge for our gang.
Character study at it's finest. Very interesting dynamics between the members of the family and a script that creates a weird circumstance between Portman and Moore's characters that kept me glued to the screen. Strong themes of trauma and morality. May December poses interesting questions on age gap relationships(?) It has a lot to say and demands a second viewing to get all the symbolisms. I kinda didn't want it to end, that's how interesting I found it.
Filled with visually creative shots like the mirror scene at the beginning with Natalie Portman between two Julianne Moore's, one of my favorites. One of the best scores i've heard this year, nicely done lighting, atmospheric, lots of tension and three awesome performances (favorite was Natalie Portman, I watched that monologue three times). A weird tone for the subject matter that could totally be off-putting for some but for me... it works! I wanted more of a confrontation towards the end, something more memorable, but the character arcs and themes did come full circle and that's satisfying.
"Do you believe in monsters?"
Trapped in a town with no way out (Under the Dome), with monsters that can kill your favorite characters anytime (The Walking Dead), having to solve an intriguing mystery (Lost).
A great balance of "getting your hopes up" and then crushing it with "dark, scary and gory". The characters are what's so good about From, they're very The Walking Dead-ish, easily and quickly loveable. The monsters are nightmare fuel, I had a couple nightmares of my own about them. They're humanoid and familiar but can either tear you to shreads in a split second or slowly torture you, and they do it with a smile. They always leave a trail of disturbing (but beautifully made) gore behind. The mystery gets me so invested and intrigued - i'm addicted!
Highly recommend!
More terrifying and a big improvement from the first! An absolute gore fest of brutality. Just like the first it has great comedy, killer style and a whole lot of amazing practical effects. The kill scenes, the set and the costumes look great. There's Halloween costumes and decorations all throughout the movie which makes it the perfect Halloween movie. 2h18min is a lot and I think a lot of it could have been cut out but I never felt bored. Watched it in one go.
Art the Clown is just as demented and violent as the first and we get to know him even better he feels more fleshed out. If he wasn't already a horror icon, he sure is now. He even gets a cool and intriguing sidekick which is a nice addition.
It sure has more story than the first and maybe that's why it had to be so long. The protagonist we get is cool and badass but sometimes she gets too much plot armor (bathroom scene). Her story is ok but it's not compelling enough to justify the overlong runtime. I do like the character though.
The supernatural elements thrown in are welcome and add layers to the universe. I just hope they know how to dose it. The bedroom scene was my favorite I think it lives up to THAT scene from the first. Also the intro scene at the laundry place was awesome. I'm absolutely confused about the mid-credit scene, what the hell is happening?!
So many great performances by the actors I can't quite pick a favorite they all deserve awards. The visuals and the setting look amazing and actors are covered in sweat and actually look like they're dying from the bad conditions. Episode 5 was the high point of the series it made me feel all sorts of emotions and not a lot of stuff can make me cry but I sure did for this. It lost some steam in the last 3 episodes and the investigation wasn't as compelling as the rest but i'm still happy with the end result. A must watch for anyone who enjoys real life disaster dramas!
Swarm is a hard look at toxic fandom, what obsession can lead to and a cautionary tale on fanaticism. It also has strong themes on grief. We take a road trip with Dre as she descends into madness and defends her idol at any cost. Anything goes, she will attack verbally, physically and socially to protect the hive. The series is dark, disturbing and sometimes repulsive but I couldn't help but binge it. The performances are what's so good about it, Dominique Fishback is phenomenal her character is unhinged and complex. Every episode features new interesting characters and performances. Billie Eilish was amazing and the episode she was in was my favorite. The violence is brutal and bloody, love the aspect ratio, beautiful aesthetics, cool music choices and I like the pacing every episode felt different and short. I'm not quite sure if this is really based on true events but "Queen B" is Beyoncé so Ni'Jah could be an analogy for her.
A love letter to Nick Cage fans! The chemistry with Pedro Pascal is flawless and I laughed a lot.
I watched this about a year ago and didn't get it at all. Couldn't connect to any of the emotionless characters and didn't find it psychological enough. On a second watch I realize you're not meant to form any attachments to these characters, the robotic stone cold acting, out of place dialogue and social awkwardness make sure of that. It's unsettling to watch. It makes sense that none of them are attaching sinse both sides of the battle are antagonistic.
An interesting take on the God complex as a whole. The wide camera shots remind us of how small these God complex characters really are which is a nice touch from Lanthimos. Ultimately, The Killing of a Sacred Deer is a cautionary tale on pride (Steven) and vengeance (Martin). What happens when a proud man with a God complex meets true divinity? All the other characters are basically choosing sides and desperately grasping for their life.
Without knowing this, it's a very tough and confusing watch though. The complete lack of exposition is something to praise. Great performances, creepy score and perfect camera angles that always fits with the allegorical meaning. I like how this turned into a horror movie in the third act. The ending is simple, expected, underwhelming perhaps, but satisfying in a way because the themes of justice come full circle.
"Such a pretty mask. Why don't we take it off... and find out who you really are."⠀ -Devil
This is my fourth watch, it's a Halloween classic by now! Goes really well in a double feature with Hell Fest. If you watched Hell Fest first though, you'll notice Haunt is much better quality. Acting is much better, the set is simple but every room is unique, the characters are likable, nicely done practical effects and cool kills. It has atmosphere, suspence and it's actually scary (at least for me).
Ghost, Devil, Witch, Clown, Vampire and Zombie make such a wicked creepy team. They're all so mysterious and I wanted more of their story and why they decided to look like that. Awesome designs. The reveal of their faces is so iconic and transforms the movie into something great. Love the ending.
A negative would be what happened to Bailey, dressing her up like one of the killers felt cheap and didn't really do much in the end.
Great sci-fi show with great acting, story and characters. The sci-fi technology elements are good and the use of CGI at moments looks very neat. I want to learn more about the aliens and their technology I hope they announce a season 2 soon!
So much chemistry between the two leads! The relationships between all characters were so well crafted and flawless. It's so much more than a simple love story it also tackles family. I especially loved the bond between the two brothers and the mother-son moments. Cooper Raiff is equally talented as both director and actor he has so much charisma. Dakota Johnson is great as always!
A silent live action cartoon in black and white. I didn't expect to like this as much as I did, i'm not even sure if i've ever watched a silent movie before but this was genius. Slapstick comedy at it's best! The comedy is a mix of lightheartedness and mildly disturbing, love the mix and the contrast. I think this will appeal to horror fans in a way (especially those last 20 minutes). I was somehow invested in the story and characters throughout the 2h runtime which is a great exploit for a silent film.
Everything is done on a low budget including the sets and costumes and effects but the look of everything is just perfect, it's charming and plays well with the comedy. All the drawings, little animations, puppets, collage, fast motion, and the visuals with the black and white are so creative. Very fitting musical choices. Great over-the-top physical acting. The whole movie was peak but my favorite parts were the scenes with the rabbits (so funny) and the whole third act was fun as hell I was glued to the screen.
So refreshing, I want more movies like this please!
"Who cares about some fucking dream guy, okay? That psycho in a hockey mask was real."
If you like both franchises, this is pure fanservice. This one's a teen slasher, totally camp and lots of dumb fun once again. Not much of a story but it's everything you're here for; pure entertainment throughout, lots of fun bloody kills and the right amount of Freddy and Jason presence.
The teen characters are empty shells but they're at least comical and entertaining. Very bad acting, dialogue and horrible special effects at times though. Except for that the movie looks freakin good in general. Great dream sequences and kills visuals.
Freddy's face makeup/mask looks like one of those strawberry grid pastries and the parts where he's talking to himself were really cringey. Jason got the best kills overall and the best moments, he was litterally on fire! Those fire scenes with Jason were my favorite parts of the movie until the absolutely epic Freddy vs. Jason X-Men fight(s). It was everything I hoped for and more. So much fun and laughs! And they somehow managed to incorporate the humans without them getting in the way. Awesome ending.
I've only seen the first Friday the 13th very long ago so I can't really compare the franchise with this movie but after binging the whole A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise... i'm sorry but Freddy vs. Jason is superior to every one of those movies!
Indy: "Wear your jewels to bed princess?"
Willie: "Yeah... and nothing else. Shock you?"
Indy: "Nothing shocks me. I'm a scientist."
The first 20-30 minutes of this are non-stop well-thought out action, it just doesn't let up. One event leads to another which leads to another. Temple of Doom for me, beats Raiders of the Lost Ark to a pulp... the kebab kill, the plane crash, the weirdly disgusting dinner, the bugs, the more macabre themes, the wagon chase, the bridge scene, the father son-ish synergy with Short Round and what a unique tone—it goes from silly to more serious to creepy to straight out comedy but I never felt like it was too much, it just gives you a bit of everything. Short Round is a great addition he's the perfect squire. Willie is incredibly annoying at times but she made me laugh more than once. Some of the sets actually look creepy with the voodoo shit, the skulls and the fire. Brillant cinematography. Incredible score. Perfect pacing. What an adventure!
I too would have passed out at the monkey brains part. Yuck!
So. Much. Blood.
One of the best remakes if you ask me! Probably an unpopular opinion but this is better than the 1981 original. Now, there's the obvious elephant in the room that this is a very expensive remake to a very low budget original and that creates a conflict as you should praise the one that was done with less money and revolutionary for it's time. It's not original by any means but let's be real, the execution is much better. It takes elements from both The Evil Dead and Evil Dead II a lot but still manages to create something different and fresh, adding lots of new lore and doing something completely different in the second half.
Obviously money helped in every department: Gallons of blood, loads of gore, practical effects that look amazing, brutal body horror and the makeup for the Deadites have never looked so good. Some intense and thrilling sequences and the tone is much darker and less comedic than the original. The one-liners are really nasty, caught me by surprise how rude they were it's really believable that it's coming from a demon. The book looks so creepy and detailed, I want one (for display, of course). The brother sister bond became annoying at some point and it made the brother look like an absolute idiot but if I were to rewatch it knowing how it ends it probably doesn't have the same effect. The characters are it's biggest flaw, even more so compared to the original. Nice twist I didn't see coming and the third act is all kinds of wild and epic.
Winston: "What do you need?"
John Wick: "Guns. Lots of guns."
Underdevelopped story for sure but Parabellum certainly delivers on the action... So much action that it might feel repetitive for some but I won't complain about too much action in an action movie. They keep upping the action sequences and the choreography is just amazing, an improvement from the first two on that. Beautiful sets, my favorite was the glass part of the Continental. The knife fight at the beginning and the one with the dogs were the best. A lot of the action is physical comedy and it works great. I definitely felt the runtime and i'm getting a little tired of Wick being invincible, can't at least one person beat him in a combat? I hope we get to see Halle Berry and Common's character (which wasn't in this one sadly) again in another sequel. The final act sure builds Chapter 4 to be epic, so many possibilities of where this goes and who sides with who.
The best type of revenge
Easily one of my favorite action flicks. The concept and story is very straightforward, the action choreography is amazing, the violence is brutal and Keanu Reeves is born for this role. The beginning of the movie with his dog still gets to me, what an emotional moment. The cement breaking and the night-club sequence are my favorites. The supporting characters are intriguing and the villains are the ones who are afraid which is interesting. Some nice music choices and score. Pacing was perfect, it's always entertaining and never feels slow. Third act and final fight was the weakest part but still enjoyable. A must-watch for action lovers and animal lovers.
Let this be a warning to everyone, my cat is off limits!
An improvement from the first! A visual masterpiece that absolutely blew me away, the underwater scenes are enchanting and every shot looked perfect. The high frame rate takes a while to get used to but once you're settled the experience is highly immersive. It took a while to get going at the beginning it felt like it was trying too hard to find it's footing. The story is still very straightforward and simple and they recycled a lot of elements from the first. I felt the overlong runtime towards the middle but once the last third starts I wasn't feeling it anymore. Still, they could of cut out a lot of unnecessary scenes and that would of helped greatly.
For a lot of the movie I wasn't into these Na'vi kids and the teen drama mixed with some corny dialogue... but by the end of the movie they were the most fleshed out characters and I was rooting for them. What really helped is the core of the movie: family. It's what really brings these characters together and makes it work. It doesn't go without saying that some characters still feel too simple and not nuanced enough, i'm thinking of Jake Sully he wasn't fleshed out in the first but in this one he's a father protecting his children and that's certainly an upgrade character wise. It was very cliché and easy to bring back the same villain as the first but Stephen Lang really does a good villain once again and overall i'm happy they went with that. I can't speak on the voice acting yet sinse I watched this dubbed in french but I can't wait to rewatch it in english.
The world building and the creatures are otherworldly. Although I was rolling my eyes and chuckling at the talking whales, that was overdone and cringey. The action is top quality epic it kept me on the edge of my seat for the whole last third of the movie. The third act was so long but it was an absolute spectacle, so much action. I got emotional during the movie but it was for the visuals, not for the sad parts. Then again, I don't think i've ever gotten emotional during an action movie it's just so much adrenaline there's no time to get emotional.
Overall a sequel 13 years in the making that I believe was worth the wait. There was certainly a lot of heart put into it and it's one of the most beautiful experiences you can have in a theater. Needs to be watched in IMAX 3D.
Evan Peters plays the sick and evil Jeffrey Dahmer in this disturbing, terrifying and morbid docu-series. I found it difficult to binge watch sinse it's so heavy and after an episode or two you get exhausted and knowing it's real is not helping. I was afraid they would humanize him too much and they did a little towards the middle but by the end it's made absolutely clear how demented he is. Evan Peters is on another level he's almost too good as Dahmer it's like he was born for that role I truly hope he gets an award. This had to be mentally exhausting for him I hope he's doing alright. The supporting cast was great Niecy Nash is the heart and soul of the show. Such a devastating story my heart goes out to all the families that suffered.
