I can say straight up this will not be a movie for everyone, but it really clicked for me. I would also say a blind watch is preferable in movies like this, I went in knowing almost nothing and if possible I think that's the way to watch the movie if possible.
For me it was incredibly immersive once established, with incredible sound design and score. The slow build of tension, unease and dread as things unfold. I'll admit, I've always been a fan of mediums that give the viewer the same amount of knowledge of whats going on as the characters have, and this nails that.
The premise has a whole has been done many times before, including this years Knock at the Cabin, but I've not seen that or read the book it was based on. But in relation to the other similar films, this takes the top spot for me.
While the ending itself is probably the weakest part of the movie for me personally because it answers just slightly too many questions a little bit too easily, the journey to get there was still worth the time and I think the ending might still work for others.
Watching this in a totally white audience was an experience. The little titters and nudges when 'make america great again' was mentioned, or about police officers shooting unarmed black people, or even one becoming president; to the we won mentality at the final phone call.
Then the deathly silence with the current footage being shown. I think quite a few people realised it's not just references.
These people still exist today.
They still have their rallies.
They still have their marches.
They still murder in uniform.
And they still hold these abhorrent views.
I think I even heard some people sniff away some tears right at the end once they saw the footage and heard the words of people who were there.
Enjoy the film; enjoy the jokes (it is a funny film) but make no doubt the characters shown still exist.
so im just supposed to go on with my life after this?????????
Amazing,Unpredictable! Watching it was a roller coaster of emotions, sometimes the movie is a dark comedy , after that a romantic comedy, the next minute a revenge thriller, It's tonal shifts made me laught, cry, angry, fearful, happy and eventually made me think a lot about the ending , i think it's going to be devisive between people. But for me it worked and when i play the movie in my head and what this character has been dealing with in her life i think it fits perfectly.I felt satisfied
The subject matter we're dealing with here is very challenging to adress in a movie and Emerald Fennell(writer and first time director) is not afraid of exposing all the parties involved when something like that happen and how everyone involved could deal with it , she knocked it out of the park.
Carey Mulligan gives what i think migt be the best performance of her career , i really hope she could snag an Oscar nomination
She killed it as Cassandra this young woman with a tragic past who's on a journey of her own trying avenge what happened to her , perfectly casted here and i wouldn't imagine someone else taking that role.
You don't really know how to feel about her like sometimes she's likable and funny , the next minute she goes dark and very serious and frightening , those shift personnalities were well executed! The cast was great too , everyone nailed their part really !
The movie does not answer eveything that happened , there a times you wonder what happened to that guy and what happened to that woman because they don't show you so you make your own image of the events or you trust Cassandra's word's which i very much liked, it leaves you making you own assumption for some parts.
Overall, the movie is well directed , the writing is so strong here and a screenplay oscar nomination is very plausible and it's just very a beautiful movie to watch , the colours the cinematography, the sets, it's like you're in a candy world , the soundtarck is great and the use of music was on point .
This movie is ambitious and important and i don't think it will be forgotten by people , it just needs time to grow .
"The Truman Show" dares to question the reality. It's original, complex, and philosophical. It manages to make you feel truly frustrated and claustrophobic.
Perhaps many of us can relate to Truman as we live in a time of routines. We often live our lives without giving a second thought to the simplicity and meaninglessness of life itself. Our limited perspectives keep us from seeing. The lies we are told keep us from the truth. If we could push the boundaries of our reality, what are the odds that we'd face what Truman faced in the end?
It was a joy to watch "Jim Carrey" as "Truman", it is yet another proof that Jim isn't just a comedian.
"Not everything is fleeting."
Indescribably beautiful in every way. Sciamma knows exactly when to linger and exactly when to let go. This is a film that is in complete control. It doesn’t just depict the longing, the love, the heartbreak; it gives the audience permission to experience these feelings with the film. It allows us into these moments in such delicate and masterful ways, that we are swept up into the romance along with Marianne and Héloïse.
Its interesting how many shots in this movie could exist in the latest artsy horror film released by A24. But in the context of this film, they don’t horrify the audience; they haunt us. They haunt us both despite and because of their beauty. They haunt us in the same way as Orpheus’ last goodbye to Eurydice.
"Turn around."
That Daily Mail "journalist" is utterly despicable and somehow wilfully ignorant of his role. Solid documentary.
It is enjoyable to watch the movie, and it moves fast so you won't be bored. It has good laughs and it discusses a good idea at the end so it is not just a waste of time.
Watch out star wars, the korean are in the space now:thumbsup:.
Good plot with some nice twists :heavy_check_mark:
Great acting :heavy_check_mark:
Decent space CGI:heavy_check_mark:
This is such a heartbreaking story... The healthcare system failed this beautiful family, they completely destroyed them.
This story is unforgettable, it's so haunting. Wow... It left me absolutely speechless...
HAROLD, THEY'RE LESBIANS!
This movie takes you on the edge of your seat from start to finish
A solid story that keeps you engaged the whole time with a great twist
Sarah Paulson is fantastic and Kiera Allen did a good job too , superb performances that hold the film together
An empowering thriller
I thought the movie was decent, but no where near great as everyone says. It's very predictable and yes the CGI is great but does that make the movie?
I don't know what to say...the matter is pretty serious, sexual abuse is the worst thing and when it's about kids there is not a word bad enough to describe it.. If anything even close to what is narrated is really happened, respect to the woman who grew up, managed to leave all behind her. Point is the while watching this and hear the story they tell, you can't avoid to think that any adult can't be so naive and dumb...period. No excuse. I can believe a kid might be easy to manipulate...but to let a grown up man to sleep with your daughter in her bed...really???? Come on...seriously? Those two are as guilty as the one who took advantage of them all.
The story is so unbelievable that it was hard to pay attention to it...guess i reached a point when it was too much..
If i think about it as fiction, it would be too stupid.
If i think about it as a documentary telling a real story, it just makes you mad to think humans can be so dumb.
Somehow I hadn't seen this until last weekend. I should not have waited this long, because this is a great film. Mia Farrow is great in this, and you really feel like you're in her shoes the whole way. Great cinematography as well. The shots down the hall of people on the phone are wonderful. You fell like the character, trying to peak around the corner and understand what is happening.
So that is all I can talk about without spoilers. Stop now if you haven't seen it.
If I had only seen half of this, I'd have been pretty disappointed. Some of the acting is bad, plot holes are jumping out, the story arc is predictable, etc. And then I get to the end and every single thing leading to this was perfect.
That bad acting was bad acting by the character, not the actor. You realize that everyone around her that is in on the Satanism is faking what they want Rosemary to think. The people not in on this are acting well. Her friends comfort her and seem real because they actually tell her the truth of what they think.
I love the fact that when you're going through it, you're wondering if she is crazy or if this is real. I wasn't sure how it would end, but close to the last scene I thought she'd grab that antichrist and dive out a window. I suppose that is still a possibility, but the film just cuts out beforehand. Instead of deciding for you, it is up to the viewer to predict what side she's on going forward.
I thought I'd give a 4.5 at first, but then the more I thought the more I realized that I really wanted to watch again to learn more about everything. That is absolutely a 5.
I love this cheesy ridiculously silly movie. It’s like a manic fever dream. There are no transitions, just bam bam bam. I love Ralph and Alejandra, they definitely steal the show. I really hoping this is the beginning of LILO’s redemption.
Don’t go into this expecting a masterpiece - you’ll be miserable. But if you go into this with low expectations and just hope for Christmas fun, you’ll enjoy the journey.
I hope they do a sequel. I hope it’s more cheesy, more ridiculous, and the silliest. The perfect Christmas escape.
Men getting what they deserve, and a happy ending for the lesbians? Couldn't ask for more.
Oh boy this is really gonna piss off all the preppy rapists of society, I forecast many downvotes and hate posts.
Just like a werewolf is two entities in the same person, Good Manners is two films in one (and if that was done on purpose, then respect).
The first half of the film is the beast during the day and is easily the better film (at 2 hours and 15 minutes, I wasn't kidding: this film really is 2 films in 1). It's subtle, keeps us guessing and is marvelously performed. The second part/film is the animal half and, while the CGI is above par and there is more action, it never really escapes from the chains of cliche that hold it down. It's entertaining to be sure, but it leaves us hungry for the finesse we had at the beginning. (If you see this film, my advice would be to leave when Clara is with the 'package' at the side of the river.)
Overall, Good Manners succeeds most when it eschews genre, but is definitely worth a watch.
...People had more than they needed. We had no idea what was precious and what wasn't. We threw away things people kill each other for now...
Excellent movie - Shows a realistic portrayal of how intelligence services works (by the Cubans). Of course, I'm sympathetic to the mainland Cuban plight, being bullied by the 'Land of the Free'. Probably why this movie has received a low rating is the disapproval by the mindless zombies in America.
Predictable but fun. Enjoyed getting to see these actors cast together!
This movie kept my interest, but if it were set in the US I'm not sure that it would have. The ending kind of made me question what the ~moral~ of the movie was: that people are all the same and that misogyny is just a coincidence, just a flip of a coin? That women somehow deserve it because of the state of things in another world?? I'm really not sure. It was also kind of unsatisfying as a story -- I wanted to see Damien have a "wow I'm a good guy now!!" moment in our world.
Random aside: As a girl with a big nose, it was nice to see lots of men and women with similar noses in this movie. My people! ♥
Saw this movie yesterday and absolutely loved it. I don't really think it's suitable for small children though, the humor is dark from time to time. Reminded me of Tim Burton's work mixed in with some 'a series of unfortunate events' vibes. Fun, heartwarming and a little dark.
This is not a documentary about another mysterious disappearance or a crime that raises many questions, but a film showing how great evil can happen for years before it's brought to justice.
This has major Rogue One vibes blended with Firefly, Star Trek, and a good solid dose of Bebop. Very enjoyable, and I can’t wait to see if we get anything else in this universe.
Tatiana Maslany can fit hours of complex emotions into 20 minutes and you feel every beat. This short film is a real tease, it makes you long for more of the story. Great job. I give this film an 8.5 (great) out of 10. [Drama]

I can't believe what I just watched and heard. This is one of the craziest and sick stories I have ever watched. I feel for the family but some of the choices these parents made blew my mind. I kept thinking to myself I really need to talk to my daughter. This is the kind of show that everyone should watch so they know that their are people out there that can really manipulate you to do anything. When she called after being taken the second time to talk to her sister and father, it got to me. Oh and to top it off that the young girl who was kidnapped is an well known actress just blew my mind!!
Enjoyable movie, Korean directors need more appreciation. Only thing I didn't like about the film was what was going on with James Sullivan? Confused in regards to what was going on with his character.
