Worth watching
Themes: first contact, Reed development, Enterprise development
Enterprise is making way for future human space exploration by deploying subspace amplifiers, which apparently draws attention from a ship that even T'Pol doesn't recognize. They don't respond at all and just go away after taking a look. They return later, causing ship wide power failure, docking their shuttle, getting all old school alien with probing incapacitated crewmen and escaping before the crew can do anything. This makes Archer realise they are ill equipped for dealing with something as alien as this and turns them around to Jupiter station so they can get their phase cannons mounted. Reed and Tucker are certain they can do it themselves but Archer is too shaken to approve their request. That doesn't stop them from giving their all to do it themselves, which is the decision that ultimately saves them as they encounter aliens one more time, where it's finally clear their intention is to capture Enterprise. Aliens themselves have a part in their own defeat as their monitoring device causes power surge that boosts power of the cannons at the expense of other systems, which is something they use to defeat aliens and once more reverse course and go further into space.
Now this is really good. We get character development with having a character in question barely in that storyline at all, which is actually brilliant way to show just how much of a private person Reed is. We get truly alien looking aliens, not just humans with a little prosthetic detail to make them different (and also some slick looking ships). This goes a long way to show us there are other warp capable species in the universe whose motives and intentions can't be understood by usual human logic. Mystery surrounding them really brings a dose of scariness that isn't that usual in ST universe, as they genuinely seem as a threat, which really brings home the point of Enterprise and its crew not really being prepared for anything galaxy throws at them. Moreover, it also gives an opportunity to show us what the crew is made of, as they work relentlessly to mount those cannons themselves. It's everything one would hope for out of a Star Trek episode.
Fun fact: we get to learn there are 81 humans, 1 denobulan and 1 vulcan onboard.
So, I'm watching this series in chronological order. By far, this is one of the best episodes in the 1st season so far. This episode is so thought provoking for the sci fi dreamers, an incredibly well written character focused episode, with massive implications. If you are not a Trekkie or don't have the time to check out all the episodes, check this one out for sure, you won't be disappointed.
This one was pretty interesting. Paulie is back around and making a stink again. Adrianna's well-meaning but half-baked plan to escape from the FBI's grasp by marrying Chris was a tidy, heartbreaking little storyline, especially Chris's shitbag response to finding out that she might be unable to have children.
The business with the HUD scam felt like something out of The Wire more than The Sopranos, but just because it was still pretty great and unnerving to see the buck passed and passed until terror rained down on the downtrodden folks in the crackhouse. It was in many ways the strongest part of the episode. (I especially liked Maurice, who was equally great in his role as Ben Urich on Netflix's Daredevil) That said, the related stuff with Tony and Zellman felt weaker. It's hard to say why, and maybe it's just a sign of Tony not being able to restrain himself with what he thinks it his, but it was still a little eh.
This episode makes sense on these corona days :)
Guard in the bank holds his gun and says "we are quarantined".
It is like covid. A virus is on way but it is disabled to spread to other people.
I could not understand why it cant make infected. To threaten those people to make plane come?
Where is real virus?
That plane could not get off and in the end scene, a plane was burning. They are same planes?
So, berlin is not so powerful as i saw. Even he cant get off.
And raymond was with liz in the park, around lots of agents. Noone is shooting or any guns those only to make blackout.
I gae 7 / 10. For a virus and quarantine and for raymond :)
Did Liz literally just try to save the criminal of this episode? Linus should've just shot her immediately.
for me this is the second worst episode so far. let me give you some spoilers: a centuries old (plural) virus dug up and weaponized by a radical environmelast. a special species of rat that is only sold by one company, and luckily there is only one client who can be a suspect... for Aram it only takes minutes to solve ANY case. I hated CSI, and I hate the CSI inspired dramaturg of this show. I only binge it because of.Spader and thus misterious hook, the relationship between liz and red. my guilty pleasure.
Really disappointed.
A disease dug up and used now?
Also, if it's so dangerous when and how did the vaccine was found/created so easily? When did they have the time to create it?
Hey, it's Mr. Homn! And he still doesn't really get to speak. (Carel Struycken is a very distinctive man, both in stature and in face. He's also known for playing Lurch in the three Addams Family films, and the Giant in Twin Peaks.)
This was a pretty gd episode, didn’t expect so much shit to go down on only the 5th episode
Stupid episode.
I mean, the idea maybe wasn't bad but it was clear the moment the Captain returned that it wasn't her. And they went too far with the Doctor almost replacing everyone. Plus, those ****head aliens weren't interesting when the appeared for the first time.
It is absolutely moronic that the Doctor choose this course of action and disobeying a direct order by the captain. Even the Doctor would understand that without a warp core ultimately they all die. That's just the author forcing his idea down our throats like so many times on this show. And, of course, no consequences at the end.
And, I have to get this of my chest, althought it pains me to say it. The Doctor referring to humans as "organics" could be percieved as racist. He even states his own superiority over humans. It is not intentional but it is disturbing nonetheless.
This is a perfect example of how stupid they write Archer to be. Archer never should have taken Porthos down to the planet. And if he really has diplomatic training, he sure doesn't show it. Archer is doesn't prioritize anything properly in this episode, whether it be his dog vs. ship, or getting sleep in his quarters vs. hiding behind a curtain in sick-bay where he and Porthos can't even see each other.
The interaction between Archer and T'Pol was just childishly written. So dumb.
Archer is just a complete tool in this episode.
This episode is about 40 minutes too long...
We already knew that the Quincies were the douchebags of the Bleach universe. It is surprising it took so long for someone to actually say they are the enemy.
A poor continuation of the original series. It is very rushed with very little of what made the original series so good. I love seeing the characters again, but this arc seems like they are just rushing to cash in on a few episodes instead of doing the final arc justice.
Why is there a recap and why is it so long? So dumb.
What a lazy way to eat up 15% of the episode.
Then the episode is way too rushed. This should have been several episodes.
Are they getting paid to not produce episodes?
Pretty solid episode. Finally, some story.
Jesse and Charlie's accent switching bit had be howling :joy: and also the
"- running a business is so easy
- yeah, sound about white "
I just wanna know how tf they built that bridge in the dark.
The new intro is the best thing about these Mirror episodes, everything else is just... NOPE.
Money money money. The title says it all, this is an episode about repaying debts, whether it's Junior's debts to his lawyers, the capos' debts to their boss, Tony's debt to his family, or even Chris's different kind of debt to his mother and father.
It's also about the downturn. Carmella says this all has to come to an end, and there's the pall from that sentiment hanging over the episode. Things aren't looking so good for once, and there's a sense that the grasshoppers and ladybugs should start storing food for winter.
I'll admit I didn't love the episode. There was a lot of set up for things that I expect will come later. But it was an interesting salvo for the fourth season.
WOW!! This episode was so intense!! I wanna see John meeting his daughter again now that she know who he is. And Morgan being supportive and saying those nice things to her about John was also really sweet.
And now to think that the A team is taken and they need help.
I so need to see Morgan, Devon and Ellie saving Team Bartowski!! It's going to be awesome!
Felt really sorry about Chuck's dad! :( And poor Ellie and Chuck had to watch it
Quite a weak story here I thought. Even in the 24th century women seem to be all too easily swept off their feet by a guy with a nice smile
Really interesting episode. It seems like the first time the very clearly had a choice to violate the prime directive with emotion. I can't see HQ overlooking what was a clear violation but at the same time the Enterprise ships have always had some extra leeway.
I thought it's impossible to beam stuff out of the holodeck.. Weird that it worked with the tents. ;)
Correct order: Episode 1
It was nice to watch, I enjoyed it, given it was 2002 back then, so it is a 9/10 XD
I honestly don't understand why the writers always make Liz go back and forth when it comes to Raymond only for her to keep changing her mind. And Megan's acting always makes it worse every time. It's like they purposely cast her to play Liz because she and her acting as the character make Liz so annoying. Or they had her act the character to be annoying. Either way, it's stupid.
The overall episode was good, until the last 5 minutes when apparently a new incompetent writer took over...
Just kill the zombie! It was obvious B'Elanna couldn't talk him down, but now was the time she decided to try diplomacy?
And they didn't even get the freighter into the star, so it was all for naught. The magnetic field of the corona isn't going to contain an explosion that would affect an volume 3 lightyears across. It would have had to stay together until it was inside the star, maybe...
Callum's progress in magic and Soren's recovery are way too easy. Claudia is the only one with an interesting character arc honestly.
[5.4/10] Big “meh” to this one. I don’t mind a little gross out humor, but between Frank’s deteriorating health, the farts and “butt smell” of the chair in the office, and the literal buckets of blood involved, this was just all grossness without any real cleverness of humor to it.
The rest of the episode was no great shakes either. Mac being too dumb to understand how to “play both side” is a solid enough gag but was delivered in an on the nose fashion. Dee being “arch” was good for a quick laugh but pretty minor in the episode. And I’m kind of tired of Dennis’s diabolical plotting, “Franquito” or no “Franquito”.
Overall, this episode feels like a wasted opportunity. The gang jostling for power seems like a solid premise for an episode, but this one devolves into a bunch of lame gross out humor without much else to show for it.
Overall very enjoyable, but what idiot thinks there is any gravity on a comet? There is no possible way to fall and injure yourself. The real danger is launching yourself into orbit with a sneeze...
