SEASON 13
2/10
Bring back the Legend
Which is Davis.
Movie was woke agenda garbage, demeaning of men, no thanks. not worth taking your children to watch this trash.
This movie has a complete lack of any kind of self-awareness or introspection.
Through direct exposition, I think directly to camera, we receive a monologue about society's unrealistic expectations for women's appearances. Meanwhile, it continues the Hollywood tradition of having an absolutely jacked and ripped and never-not-flexing Ryan Gosling walking around shirtless almost all the time.
We're treated to another long exposition in which one of the protagonists lists society's unfair expectations of how women should behave (be nice, but not too nice). I found this crazy. Most of these grievances are about things we all have to grapple with as human beings. Others... Who is society? Where are these expectations made? How do we change them? How do they compare to expectations placed on men to get jobs, go to work, learn plumbing, listen and provide feedback to women, but never explain anything? We never even consider. This movie literally lists "anxiety" as a women's issue. It's lack of ability to understand or interpret its own message is telling.
There's a segment in which men trick women to quit their jobs and take on the roles of supporting men (what!?) and women have to break each other out. At the same time, the men want nothing and do nothing except to drink beer and play guitar and ruin society and have wars because stereotyping is great as long as it's men.
There is some commentary (again, through direct exposition) about Ken's role in Barbieland, how he doesn't have a job or a purpose except to be a guy. We discover pretty quickly that we're supposed to interpret that as, "See? This is what it's like to be a woman [in the 1820s]." And what's the solution? No. No. Ken should continue to have no agency or purpose in Barbieland and that's a hilarious joke.
Every actor, though, is fully committed and doing great work.
This movie is bad. It never heard of, "show, don't tell", and instead has writers repeatedly monologuing directly to the audience. It's a ham-fisted delivery of a message that the movie doesn't itself understand, let alone interpret. The most memorable part, based on comments from women who walked out of the theater, was also the most joyous, a song and dance number starring only (ironically) men. Everyone seemed to like that part and wanted to talk about it, which is an indication of how poorly this movie communicates and entertains.
Starts off really strong and fun.
The sets look incredible and its immersive. They had a really great message about body positivity and unrealistic expectations on women & I was all the way behind it.... Then rapidly spirals into a pure man hate / Women supremacy. Its obvious the writers have a huge chip on their shoulders.. It's messaging is so heavy handed it completely took me out of the movie & brings it from enjoyable to a drab 2 hour rant by an angry twitter blue user who think's women's rights is still in the 1800's.
They have this unreal take that you're set for life if you're a man and just get instant success. They think everything's better if you're a man (Guess what, it doesn't work that way. I'm told every day how I'm a bad person because I'm a man, and for only that.... Just like this movie does)...
Being preached at about why being a man is so bad for 2 hours does not make for a fun viewing experience.
It shows the glaring double standards of the current mainstream talking points.
This movie blindly preaches that "the world would be better if the shoe was on the other foot" and it comes across as tone deaf.
Its BAD all one gender "rules the world" but if its women, its A-OK!... which defeats the purpose of feminism.
Women getting equality, not supremacy.
call this a hot take but I think men and women should be equal..... but this movie thinks men don't even deserve a seat on Barbie world's court - that's insane.
Why is Patriarchy bad but Matriarchy good....????
Its either all bad or none of it is, and this man hating director needs to make up her mind.
The movie's message is very hypocritical because it claims to promote feminism but actually promotes female supremacy (women ruling over men, not the equality message that feminists tend to preach). The barbies getting their world back from the Kens is seen as fair and equal even though it is literally a matriarchy where the men are just there to entertain the women and don't even have their own houses. They switch from patriarchy to matriarchy but never mention it.
I am a very liberal person and I am completely for equality, but not female supremacy. And besides, if it was just a few references it would have been fine even then, but the problem is it is the film's main plot. The whole point of the movie is to lecture to men why they shouldn't be the ones in charge and make them appear as buffoons, as morons who can't do anything right, that's what I despise about this movie. The women are never portrayed as idiots except when they are in a brainwashed state, yet the movie claims to promote equality. That's the problem with radical feminists like the film's director (Greta Gerwig).
I guess next time, before I pay for movie tickets, I am going to actually read the critic reviews and make sure that the filmmaker is not a radical moron before I make my decision. This time, I just foolishly picked the movie based on the eye candy I saw in the trailer. And yes, the eye candy was there throughout the entire movie, but that's the only good thing about the movie, everything else was horrible. Ryan Gosling is a great actor but in this, he is portrayed as a weak spineless man, and the few times where he is portrayed as strong, it is only in a stereotypical way to make fun of him. If the movie really preached equality, it wouldn't be so focused on making the men appear as idiots or promoting a female dominated society, it is because of that kind of stuff that plenty of people (including some women) are against feminism.
I completely understand wanting to tear down the patriarchal aspects of society or calling them out, but by replacing them with ideas of female supremacy, it makes the movie's message lose its credibility, because feminism tends to be about equality, not trading patriarchy for matriarchy, which doesn't even work in the real world. All matriarchal societies are either failures or they are stuck in a very undeveloped state and never make any progress. Also, there is a reason why some jobs are more male dominated than others, very few women want to work in construction, because it is dirty, it is a lot of heavy lifting, and it can lead to broken nails and even serious injuries.
Season 3 = Star Trek the Next Generation Season 8! Wow this was an outstanding season, and a perfect cap to the STTNG fans out there, I loved it so much that I binged the entire season in a couple of evenings. My wife found out about the extension of STTNG and wanted to watch it with me, so I queued up all of the pertinent episodes from Next Generation as a lead into Picard season 3 as a perfect way to round everything out and it's a great experience.
Even though the Next Gen cast are all in their 70's+, you almost totally forget that in this season. Even Picard is more vibrant than he was in seasons 1 and 2 and Riker doesn't look like he's changed at all, with the exception of the gray.
And much to my surprise and pleasure, they didn't continue the 7 of 9 lesbian arc, I figured it might get most of the attention since they decided to go that route, but instead they did what they should always do: entertain and not preach their agenda. I could, literally, delete seasons 1 and 2 of Picard and just keep season 3 as a STTNG season 8.
If you are a next generation fan then you'll absolutely LOVE this season. It's got vibrant Picard, tough Riker, a toned down Troy, a silly chunky Data with a convenient excuse why an ageless android is old and fat now, a better Worf than the original, an over plasticized Crusher and BORG! It's a perfect ending.
Season 1 was a sheet of used toilet paper…
Season 2 was a whole roll of used toilet paper…
Season 3 a pure golden nugget, made for the true fans, filled with memories and fan service of the right kind…..
Good show all in all, but not as mind blowing as people make it out to be. And gosh, way to count the inconsistencies and loopholes.
It doesn’t measure up in cruelty and fucked-Upness with for example… Deadman Wonderland. Go watch / read that, that even has character development.
Squid games main character is obnoxious and selfish, who only gets out of his obnoxious role while playing the games, any other time he’s his useless, selfish self. Had there been some actual development with him I might have rooted for him, but in the end he’s still one worthless scumbag.
Boring, predictable and... goddamn awful. In what could have been an interesting episode despite the once again obvious parallels to what we once called "Real Life" this completely, but not unexpectedly, missed the ball.
A hole in one? Nope, not by a long shot Mister Peele. On the contrary... Cause like said in the episode "that's not how it works". You can't just make something "topical" and expect it to be good... There needs to be effort and talent. Again... the subliminal message in this show swings both sides but all I'm seeing is a preacher whose preaching to the choir even though he's being sucked off in the process. "Cause Jeebus he knows me, and he knows I'm right. I've been talking to Jeebus all my life."
I'm starting to think we are living in the Twilight Zone cause if this drek is considered good I don't see how it possibly can't be true.
Inside I feel a bit like I'm in the first few seconds of a moment when an anxiety attack occurs... It's not quite there yet, and it can go away but it's gonna hit if you don't stop thinking of it. The fear will overwhelm you and the dominoes will fall... I'm reading reviews and there are actually people who defend and like this stuff... Liking it to the best episodes Sterling ever made. Propaganda anno 2019. If it weren't just "entertainment" it'd be scary... Domino.
A graffic masterpiece. Totally hook me up
Let me first point out that I am a human being – a flawed human being with imperfections and biased opinions. I have never liked film noirs, jazz music, gangsters, the mafia, or anything to do with thugs. Furthermore, I find it difficult to enjoy a TV show if I cannot connect with the main character…or any other character at that. Luke Cage has all of that – which is why I considered it boring, and my least favorite of the three shows. I watched others talk about how great it was…how it is better than the other MCU Netflix shows, or even other recent Netflix shows like Stranger Things and for once, I’m out of the loop because I don’t get it. However, with this universe, it is pertinent to watch these shows for potential continuity.
So I watched the show, and I was ultimately bored with it. There were good episodes, but in general – I found it a lackluster experience from the get go. The best episode was the third, and some others came close as well. However, this show tried to do what Jessica Jones did – as his abilities are practically unstoppable, they introduced an emotional aspect to it that served as his vulnerabilities. The difference between the two comes down to if I can connect with the character – and for Luke Cage, I just couldn’t. As I pointed out before, I also didn’t like the music choices or even villains – the end fight was trying to be epic in a way, but it was so typical and blah-inducing – I’m having a hard time finding something in this show that can be considered a “wow” factor. I’m just glad I’m caught up and don’t have to worry about it anymore…I just know there’s going to be a second season…sigh.
I had a decision to make – how was I going to rate this…because I didn’t want my own personal objections to get in the way. So here’s what I came up with. Netflix had a specific goal in mind when they made this TV show, and a lot of people really do like it – so I have to say they did what they sought to do. However, I believe there is also an entirely different group of people that didn’t like it – and I feel like this rift between the two is more apparent than any other the other shows Netflix has done with Marvel. I’m not one to explain why that is – but I can tell it exists. So I’ll just say this – Luke Cage is a well-done show that positively achieves what it wanted to achieve – which told a story without worrying what an audience would think of it. If they loved it great, if they didn’t, oh well. However, when you take that kind of risk – you create something that is possibly not entertaining – which is what I experienced when I watched it.
Look. I’m not a genius, but when I’m struggling to get through a season and groaning at the idea of watching another one…I’m pretty sure they did something wrong. That being said, I can’t ignore where it did go right – so that’s how I came up with my score.
"I don't care how you do it. I don't care if it makes any sense. In fact, there's pretty much no way to give me what I want and have it make sense. Just make sure that these things happen in this week's script because we need to set the table quickly." -- Head writer to the poor sap who was tasked with scripting this soapy mess
Flash was so awesome in S1, now is just boring. The crazy thing is that Arrow is having a great season 5 and its currently better than Flash. The whole melodrama thing is what destroy shows. Take notes writers!
Dear Savitar. Please kill everyone, maybe except Caitlin and Cisco. Thank you.
What the hell? The past 2 seasons have not been very good, but this finale really did suck.
So, the Espheni had spaceships and stuff to invade the earth but were overpowered by spears?
And gg wp to Pope, was 80% dead, manage to get himself to DC just to die looking at his enemy.
Ignoring the 'one of the bloodiest battles' where we only see 2 guys dying and one of them kinda committed suicide, the woman that had a alien children and experienced hell died from a shrapnel? (np, was only dead for a couple of minutes) and not explaining what happened to Ben, everything Espheni died, Ben had the spikes but was just fine. It has an overall ok-ish show with an awful finale.
I don't even know where to start. I really was expecting a much better ending for a series that started good and went down the hills three seasons later, first, because somehow I had kept seeing it, and second, because I guess many people had kept seeing it, and for that they should've worked harder to give us a better finale. But this was awful, like they just write the whole finale an hour before they shooting it, with such a corny ending, with such ridiculous speech and the revive of a character, and Pope, and why is Ben alive?, and that was the Queen they were to be scared? a bloodsucking alien?. I can say too many more things but I don't wanna waste more time with this serie.
Awesome season finale. (via TVShow for WP)
This is how you end a story with style!
Let me start by saying I have been a Godzilla fan ever since I saw Godzilla vs Mothra back in the 80s. With that out of the way I really liked this movie. It is in no way like the 98' movie (which was terrible) but instead kinda takes the Clover field route by showing how the fighting of the monsters really impact human. In this movie it's very clear that human need to get the hell out of the way! While there is not an overly amount of scenes showing all out fighting with the monsters you still get a feel for the current situation with Godzilla. This also attempts to ground Godzilla the creature in reality but doesn't 100% succeed. Some of the explanations for why things are happening are not always believable. Still, I enjoyed seeing Godzilla take on these "enemies" and eventually kill them. One interesting twist, which I had never seen in a Godzilla movie was he used his radioactive breath. In the movie he uses it almost as a last resort, seemingly because it takes a lot of energy from him. While this is inconsistent with any Godzilla movie before it I rather liked the idea. It would probably take a great amount of energy to create that blast of power. This is best seen when Godzilla brutally kills the last creature with a prolonged blast of energy that knocked him out till the next day. So if you cam looking for a movie that showed nothing but Godzilla fighting all the way through or a "Man v Monster" movie...this may not be the movie for you. However, give it a shot...you may like it after all.
