It was cute. Didn’t like it at first but it grew on me. Charming.
This is pretty much 8 mile for on PC millenials. Has some funny parts and some dope rhymes. Ultimately it was a little too long. A tighter story would have made this more enjoyable.
I saw, what I did not know was, the ending of the film in a YouTube clip. Thought it looked good and I love Ben Foster so I decided to check it out.
I expected a completely different movie based on the clip. They could have made this thing much shorter. Would have thought it was better with a tighter script and someone else cast in the Mable role, cause she sucks.
I’m just going to say this…. If you’re trying to decide “should I watch this stoned or should I watch this sober?”; brother, I have to tell you that if you’re not smoking one out, don’t even watch it.

I've seen this twice. Once as a kid. It was ok but it wasn't Iconic for me. I was 17 and the demo for this is a little younger.
Second time I saw this was as a stoner adult. As I sit here and realize this was a stone flick all along....

We liked this one a lot. It's crying porn and schmaltzy at times but overall charming. Reminds me of a shorter version of The Romanoffs.
Could have great but the end was shite
Not only did I want to like it. I wanted to LOVE it. I saw the scene where Never Enough is performed before I saw the film and then from the opening scene, I thought the movie was going to thrill me, but it ultimately felt hollow to me. The modern music was really good, but it took me out of it a little. Also, I wanted it to be longer and a little darker at times. I felt like the freak show characters and the relationship between Barnum and the singer could have been fleshed out a lot more. This could have been a grand two and half hour epic. But instead, we got a really good hour and a half musical by way of Hollywood. Fun film, but ultimately too fluffy and empty.
The nerd in me loved the shit out of this movie. The movie lover in me saw the Swiss cheese plot holes.
I'm a large guy. I'm probably not AS large as Charlie. But I'm big enough that the difference is negligible because at some point you hit a weight where aspects of our story can be universal.
That being said, this was not a universal story of a big fat guy. This was overwrote with emotion. We don's sit around feeling sorry for ourselves at all times. We don't ALL stuff ourselves in a feverish attempt for suicide. We don't ALL sit around and do nothing and can't move on our own. It's bulls****. And while I understand that this is one story, when I heard about Brendan Frazier's performance, I was so ready to see this.
All things previously said, it doesn't mean that we don't have demons that we deal with. I had hoped/expected this movie to be a cathartic experience based on some pieces of truth to my life. But I couldn't find empathy for Charlie because he was a man that had just given up.
And the whole church kid angle was definitely weird and could have been done better. It's more than a bit stupid.

Decent romcom. I'm an Illiza fan, so I'm a little bias. I will say tho, the moral part of the story was a little shallow. It came across as "don't judge pretty people as vapid and disposable, they're actually human underneath, but if you meet a weirdo, they're probably a weirdo". Being that it's a movie about her life, the weirdo part is fine because it's part of her real story. But the schlocky scene where the two pretty blondes stop being fake to each other felt shoehorned in and counter to the main theme of the film.

I get all of the undertones that the film is presenting. It almost felt too obvious at times. I get that the acting is supposed to be great, even if I thought that Emma Stone was terrible playing the "child" version of the character at the very beginning. I did enjoy some of the dark humor. But the steampunk/Wes Anderson style didn't do anything for me and never has.
Not to get into pun territory here but this was a little too "high art" for my tastes. However, about half way through I said to my girlfriend (who did find the film interesting) "ya know, the weed just hit in a way that made this movie tolerable." So there's that...

This was not well done. I watched this because I listed to the podcast The Dropout. If you really want an in depth dive into this story, skip the movie and do the podcast.
Felt like an add-on episode to a show rather than a fully fleshed out movie.
There were funny moments but a couple of cringe moments as well.
Fun. at times, but ultimately disposable.

Did you ever wonder what it would be like if they took the movie Phone Booth and crossed it with Saw directed by a 70's Italian horror director? Whichever the answer is, that's what you're getting...

This is sort of a dark comedy. The comedy is dry tho. This is a message film and the changes in tone mesh but the comedy aspects don't really work because I found myself laughing at parts that were supposed to be "scary".
I think the most well done part is the parodying of 90s hip hop and R&B culture. The parts with music videos and Usher were fantastic and the best parts.
It has a similar concept to a 90s version of the Amazon show Them. Different stories but the same underlying story. Them is done much better tho.

Movie about a white kid that looks like Jack Harlow lite, fitting in with black people, and being accused as a snitch. Would have been better if the kid could act. I heard about this because of what a great performer this new kid was. He sucks.

As a fan of the original, The Foundation angle could be good on paper, but they made it absolutely stupid AF.
Good moments but does not live up to the original series.

This show was great. However it turned during episode 5 for us. At one point there are baby penguins that get attacked by rival older penguins and we couldn't handle that.
Although I understand and respect that that is part of the circle of life, it's not something I'm interested in watching. I also imagine it would be surprising and difficult for small children. Id advise parents to watch the episode before deciding on watching the show.

This should have been average horror reboot faire. It became a good bad movie when it kept getting so over the top and super non sensical writing. A waste of Brian Tyree Henry’s talent.

I love broad city and I love when actors make unexpected movie choices. So I threw this on immediately. It's definitely watchable and some interesting writing options but it's ultimately an average genre flick. The acting was ok but Iliana felt out of place. It was hard separating her from her comedy personality but if this were played more for laughs, it would have worked better. If she keeps acting she can improve, but I'd prefer to see her in comedies.

There are some really funny parts in between the mess. It's totally watchable though. I would just bring some edibles beforehand.

Was an ok spooky flick until the end. Not in a “bs ending” kind of way. It was just dumb and a likely attempt to start a franchise that they bailed on.

Nice action but this can be described in two words: Lady Punisher. The movie one, not the TV or the comic one.
It's melodramatic and syrupy sweet. At the same time, a lot of the themes are going to piss off MAGA fans of Dolly's.
Not the worst thing on TV but not great. Sort of Hallmark meets Lifetime meets After School Special. But some of the episodes are charming, in their own way.
Watching this one for the How Did This Get Made podcast. I was pleasantly surprised with how much better this was than expected. Sadly, I feel it could have been so much better. Most of the 6 stars I rated this belong to Ellen Barkin. She owned the screen. She was charismatic and charming and sexy and captivating and funny and gorgeous. Everyone else seemed lifeless compared to her performance. That said, it wasn't SO BAD as to be unwatchable. But with another actress, it might have been just that.

I went into this completely blind aside from the description and a cursory view of the trailer when it first came out.
Needless to say, I got a big surprise at the end of the first act.
Overall, this is a piece about our trauma and how we deal with it and how we bond with it. Some parts are actually funny, but a lot of it falls flat and the trauma bonding bit is a little too on the nose for my taste.
Oh and this is NOT a horror movie. It’s horror the same way Stranger Things or Gremlins is “horror” but not really.
