Not as solid as I hoped. It's confusing for sure, but they could have done so so much more with this concept and world. But they didn't. It has left us with a story that is interesting, yet unrelatable. Things move way too fast and I would have preferred a longer runtime because it is that intriguing. And while the ending is great, the way that Nolan tries to merge the two viewpoints isn't done well. Leaving me feeling like my dad when he watches Transformers (2007) and asks who is who.
It needed to be simplified a little more because everything else is amazing. The effects, the overarching story, the acting. The music, however, is terrible and overblown to give a sense of action when there isn't enough happening. The only part where it worked well was in the final fight, but even then it needed to be quieter.
The cinematography is good as always, but I feel it is lacking compared to Nolan's previous work.
When it comes to action and the draw to this movie, the reversal shots. They deliver, but they are too and far between. It gives us great scenes of reversal action, then one drawn-out segment at the end that doesn't feel rewarding as like I said before, it isn't merged well.
This movie may grow on me more after a second viewing, but it left me in a state that I don't wish to see it again any time soon. It is not fun enough to see again, it is not engaging enough to associate and learn from. Something that Nolan has done well at in the past is his ability to leave questions with the audience after they finish his films. Here, it just provides answers and left me unsatisfied in that regard.
7/10
Great, Landon the useless character is back.
Is it just me or is there some circlejerk going on at Disney where they keep using the same group of actors over and over again for their different brands? Just stop using Taika Waititi already.
The movie itself is pretty whatever.
It reminded me a lot of Onward; you could do a lot worse, but it probably won’t be remembered within the broader Pixar catalogue.
Not a lot of depth or subtext with this one, it’s a pretty straight forward adventure (which is also fine of course).
Some good animation (lots of visual ideas are being pulled from Star Wars), decent voice acting, fine characters, story’s alright.
It’s kinda inoffensive and doesn’t really warrant some of the extreme reactions it’s gotten.
The whole ‘woke’ label is baffling to me, it just seems like a smokescreen certain people use to cover up for their own homophobia, which only emphasizes how the word ‘woke’ carries little to no meaning nowadays.
Any regular person will be fine watching this, regardless of their political leaning.
Ffs, it’s mass entertainment after all.
5/10
"Salt, Zelda, salt. What is this, currency back in your country?"
Unrelated to the episode, but I just realized that Astrid is also Succession's Willa. Justine Lupe definitely deserves much more credit, she’s a great actress.
I mean, they're both doing horrible things to each other. But why do I only feel bad for Dan? :( His face when he saw his car was gut-wrenching.
If Eddie killing himself erases RevFlash from the timeline, then who went back in time and killed Barry's mum? Who rigged the particle accelerator to explode and make the Flash? What put Eddie in the position that he felt he had to kill himself just then? Cisco, you're Vibe now. Explain this with movie references, because it does not make sense.
"I analyzed the typing speed and patterns on the hard drive." You WHAT? I so hate meaningless technobabble.
This show basically only takes the base concept from the movie (drug makes you smart). All the themes from the movie (dangers of addiction, intelligence vs knowing things, ect) are basically gone to make way for what the show is.
This show is "What if J.D. from Scrubs was in a police procedural and was also The Mentalist half the time". Any worries about getting more of the drug is gone, they never really show the withdrawal he must go through each day, there are no long term damages from taking the drug. The show is really just another goofy genius fights crime show. Which is fine? It is still pretty good.
Not the movie, still fun-ish.
Pike saved Octavia more than once to try and redeem himself. Warrior Princess wannabe had to kill him anyway. She f'd one grounder so that makes her Xena ?
Solid episode nevertheless.
My guess is that Nate is the one who died. We'll see what happens.
Geez, this episode was a rollercoaster. I have so many thoughts and I’m not sure if I can express all of them properly, but I’ll try.
First of all, Mon-El is not bad, but he’s not particularly interesting either. I really hope he and Kara will stay friends and nothing more. His scenes with Winn were pretty great, though. And hungover Winn is absolutely hilarious.
Something about Lena Luthor’s accent has been bothering me since the season premiere, and I finally got around to looking up Katie McGrath. She’s Irish, as it turns out. My ears weren’t deceiving me. By the way, is Lena evil? Does she know Kara is Supergirl? Something about their conversation and the way she stared after Kara seemed shady. Frankly, I don’t care if she’s one of the good guys or a villain. I’m fine with either.
Miss Martian is a White Martian! I’m having an aneurysm! I didn’t see that one coming at all. What an awesome plot twist. I really enjoyed the relationship between her and J’onn in this episode and I can’t wait to see what will happen when J’onn finds out who she really is.
"- I offered to merge with her in the Martian way.
- But you guys just met."
I literally had to pause the episode because I was laughing too hard. Oh, Kara.
Dichen Lachman is always a win. Dichen Lachman playing a villain in a red dress with sick tattoos? Double win. I hope we’ll see Roulette again at some point.
Alex „Fight Me” Danvers, the same Alex Danvers who throws herself at aliens twice her size without hesitation, stutters and gets flustered when a pretty girl compliments her. What an awkward baby gay. I love her so much.
Why did Maggie take Alex’s hand? Don’t tell me it was for the mission because there was no need for them to hold hands. I’m pretty sure the writers only threw that in to give me (and Alex) a heart attack.
Of course Maggie has a girlfriend who conveniently showed up when Alex was trying to ask Maggie out. I hate it when they do that. We all know that the girlfriend is just a plot device created for the sole purpose of keeping Alex pining for Maggie for a little longer. They did basically the same thing with Kara, James and Lucy last season, except Lucy ended up actually getting some character development and being relevant to the plot. I’m willing to bet it won’t be the case here.
Shoutout to Chyler Leigh for her phenomenal work. She did an amazing job of showing Alex’s inner turmoil, sadness and disappointment with just her facial expressions as she watched Maggie leave. It was stunning to watch.
Can't believe they screwed Bonnie over again, the writers better have something big planned for her to make up for all the shit she has gone through.
UPDATE: I saw a movie so beautiful I started crying™
Stop rating movies before you even know they are in production!!!
Not allowed to do a review yet but I'll say this:
This is how you do a superhero movie.
This is how you do a war movie.
And the best comment of the night: "It was amazing, it made me believe I could become Wonder Woman." -6yo girl
I liked it. But, maybe it would have been better suited as a series. The universe seems to have a lot of unused potential.
This world sucks. What a crappy depressing place fill with nasty assholes.
It's fine but not as good as the first. There are not memorable songs like Let It Go. The story is ok. The animation looks great. Kids will love this too but adults will probably be bored.
This was so much fun, but doing all that great work setting up the reintroduction of Kingpin only to [pretend to] kill him off in his first episode back is some bullshit.
Ah, I love it when I genuinely have fun when watching a murder mystery! I hope they'll manage to write another extravagantly entertaining adventure for Benoit Blanc's third screen exploit!
Oh, by the way, with everything that's been going on with Twitter, was anyone else eerily reminded of the mercurial "Chief Twit"'s antics when witnessing Miles Bron's chaotic decisionmaking? I don't think this was originally intended, but that character now definitely feels like a parody of Elon Musk lol
My name is Barry Allen, and I am the dumbest Man Alive. To the Earth-2 people I am an ordinary speedster, but secretly with the help of Dr Wells I gave my speed to Zoom and became a normal guy. I hunted down the man who killed Jay Garrick, but in doing so, he took Caitlin as a prisoner and my speed was gone. And I am the only one dumb Enough to do it. I am the Dumb
One of the most shocking and poignant documentaries I have ever seen. The Averys' ability to remain hopeful and optimistic despite such extreme miscarriages of justice, is so incredibly admirable. I hope more than anything that something can be done to release these two men. Horrifying.
Alex' coming out was so pure/real and important fml. Yes straight ppl this is how you develop a gay character. That storyline is real as fuck IT HAPPENS IN THE FUCKING REAL LIFE so get over the "the writers just want to please the gays or can the writers stop writing stories that have nothing to do with their sexual preference?". We need/deserve this rep. And finally, i'm so glad the writers pulled this off i'm really looking forward to see maggie falling for alex ahhhhh fuck
Am I crying? Yes. Yes, I am. Damn it, Flash. You did it again. You managed to turn me into a sobbing mess.
First of all, what was Mark fucking Hamill doing there? I've never seen him in anything other than Star Wars, so my first thought was a horrified "L-Luke?". Amazing. It takes some serious balls to cast such an iconic actor and then have him appear in just one scene. I applaud the showrunners.
Yay, Wally got his suit. Maybe he will finally stop whining.
I can't decide if I like Julian or not. Sure, he's not a bad guy, but he can still be an asshole when he wants to be.
"One shall betray you. One shall fall. One will suffer fate far worse than death."
Fuck off, Savitar. Nobody messes with Team Flash. And stay away from Iris. We've already lost Laurel, I won't let another plant-named love interest/moral compass/badass die on my watch.
So, Caitlin can control her powers now? It would be so cool (no pun intended) if she could use them without fear of turning into Killer Frost.
Drunk H.R. is hilarious. And his little happy dance with Wally in the park was absolutely adorable.
The Flash sure knows how to do a Christmas episode. I don't get nearly as excited about Christmas as I used to, but even my cold, dead heart warmed up a little when I saw all those decorations and all the characters together and happy for once. I was afraid something would happen and the episode would end on a cliffhanger, but no. Instead we got Barry and Iris being cute and in love. Someone punch me in the face, I can't handle the feels.
So, I guess this is the mid-season finale? In that case, see you all in 2017! And early Merry Christmas wishes to all of you!
"My death comes without apology." But who is the one-eyed man who told them that Ragnar really is dead? Anyone?
I'm so in love with this series! I love viking history and mythology and this show was great in represent all this.
I really hope that gets more seasons!
Wow.
Just got back from the cinemas. I think the movie is great.
The mix of humor, action and darkness and some really good twists.
The last 10 minutes are also perfect. Everyone was shocked.
OK, so you want to tell me that the Russians went to invade Norway by using a giant armada consisting of hundreds of ships that are driven by bucket wheels for some reason. They also have landing crafs D-Day-style.. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME???
Please, History Channel, it's time do delete that "History" part from your brand name.
The Movie is great, but it seems like the only actor who gave a really good performance was Jack Nicholson.
If you missed the after credits go back and watch them !
