"The Force is with me and I am one with the Force."
Chirrut and Baze were my favorites. This film made me think i want more stand alone films then a continuation of Episodes. As someone who has only jumped on to the Star Wars franchise over the past year, watching all the films over the past few months..this has to be my favorite next to the original film and what a fitting place. I can't wait to re-watch it back to back.
It most definitely made up for the Force Awakens which as a new viewer almost put me off. People more informed in film might be able to pin point what Rogue One has done better. That last battle to get the plans, i couldn't blink. Both the space and ground combat really conveyed how desperate the Rebels were.
The C3PO and R2D2 cameo took me out of the film for a moment but the rest of the film felt seamless and pulled me right in. I would of liked to have seen more of the relationship between Jyn and Saw but i am sure novels and television will take that on for us (or already have). So many emotions in those 2 and so hours and i can't wait to watch again, at the theater! Perfect cinema experience and worth the outing. By the way, what an ending! Vader never looked so dominant.
I can't say much that hasn't already been said about this film but it was fantastic to see it unravel the way it did.
That being said i have one issue with the way it ended and that is the dick move from Louise to Ian. Why she didn't have the decency to tell Ian about it their child's impending illness until years later. It was his kid too. Either tell him from the start or don't tell him at all. Clearly he got mad and found out that she knew which means she told him at some time that she knew all along. Who does she think she is? A child is two people.
Also from another comment "Also, it can be considered selfish as she is viewing time differently; she is able to relive moments with her daughter when she pleases and experience the joy she brought her constantly. Ian will spend the rest of his life feeling the despair of his deceased child and unable to relive that joy." Exactly. Really bums me out but the movie wasn't bad.
Outside of that Amy Adams played an incredible lead in this film and hope she is able to continue getting the roles she deserves. During those flash scenes with her daughter it reminded me so much of my mother it hurt a bit, in a good way. I honestly want to know more but i understand a sequel would defeat the purpose of this film. It gives hope for humanity in some way but of course it would take an alien visit for any progress to happen haha.
I actually had not planned on watching this movie, it was just beginning as i turned the TV on but i decided to see the start..three hours later and i could feel that time had gone. It definitely felt like a play to movie adaption (which i found out after). My one thought is how thankful i feel for my current life after watching this. I know one can comment on how human they felt even when huddled and hiding, how relatable even in a dire situation each, especially Anne was but especially towards the end as the suspense grew, all i felt was grateful. You go into the movie knowing everyone's fate already but it doesn't stop you from jumping and wanting to squeeze each time a siren rings or a door creaks in the night. Good classic film if you have the time to commit to watching it.
This quote at the end stood out as i am sure it will for others watching.
"I know it's terrible trying to have any faith when people are doing such horrible... But you know what I sometimes think? I think the world may be going through a phase, the way I was with mother. It'll pass. Maybe not hundreds of years, but someday. - I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are really good at heart"
I am not sure how to feel, i wish i could love this movie but i had the same feeling i had when i left Batman vs Superman. I enjoyed most of the characters but the movie they were in felt all over the place, confusion.
That being said the Suicide Squad themselves made it fun, the action, the banter, seeing them come to life was the blast of the night.
Standout was Diablo and Boomerang for me, along with the relationship between Harley and Joker which was fun and a taste of what is to come. We needed way more Joker as others have said.
Small, first thought complaints were that it had way too much actual music, it started to feel like an extended trailer in the first half of that movie nearly with how it jumped from song to song (trying to push that soundtrack) or maybe they just didn't mesh it well. Flagg was a little dull but i want to see more of him down the road but what didn't help was the forced relationship between him and Moon. They also suffered from a weak villain after an intriguing set up.
I want to learn more of Katana in the future. I actually hope to see everyone back in other movies or even a sequel if this universe continues to expand...just hopefully in a better movie because the actors and characters deserve it. I mean even with the cameos in this film they have already expanded the universe more, that it was The Flash bringing in Boomerang.
I never thought that Man of Steel would be my favourite movie still third movie into the universe, especially with their vision of what they wanted to create. Hopefully in some dark room extra footage exists with someone re-editing the movie. Not a good expectation to have when some fans will look for a new version but i wish it exists. That being said to end this lengthy initial afterthoughts i will say it is a step up but not a giant step from the last movie. I will watch it again when i can get it for home and WB need to start making great movies not "okay, cool" movies with great sprinkled in certain scenes or characters.
Hopefully Wonder Woman can pick up the ball and be great because i loved the first trailer.
"I tried your way, Charles.
I tried to be like them.
Live like them.
But it always ends the same way"
The abusive relationship between Professor X and Magneto continues to bring strong intrigue to when they will meet next and what they will be in the middle of.
At first my fear was Jean Grey had been miscast, instead following the "she has the same hair color it is fine" formula but after that steady start by the end of the film she came into her own and i am looking forward to seeing her again. Scott and Kodi i loved though, with Storm and Quicksilver moving in, i am looking forward to the next generation! With more Jubilee!
The only character i was really down on as most have also said, Mystique. Mystique's actions are fine but it is Jennifer's delivery that leave a lot to be desired. Especially in the scene where Quicksilver is revealing that secret to her. I think old high school friends in drama class could of made me more convinced in their reaction.
Those last few minutes gave my inner child a squeal. It might be seen as a step down but it is still as fun as the previous two and the strongest of the X-Men trilogies. Between X-Men, Deadpool and MCU. Marvel properties are hot. -sweeps Fantastic Four under the rug-
By the way, What kind of bullshit shot from the arrow was that to kill the mother and the daughter instantly and at the same time?! I suppose tragedy is drive for Magneto but i could of blinked
