I've been infatuated with Clint Eastwood from the time I saw his first spaghetti western when I was a teenager. I've seen all the movies he's starred in and directed. And I've seen his skills as a storyteller develop, mature and grow. Clint, I love you.
It's got a cool premise, but it's completely squandered with the lame first person gimmick. It gets old very quick, as I feel like I'm just watching a video game, replete with corny acting, and uninspired setpieces. You can't engage with the main character in this format, even when you have a good actor, like Stevens. So we should stop trying to make this style a thing...
A different kind of WWII movie showing some of the ugly events happening during the war. The special effects are crap but the story is solid.
A fascinating series of documentaries about intelligence gathering between the 1950s and 1990s. Interesting story telling. I give it an 8 (interesting) out of 10. I hope CNN does a series 2.
Hidden Figures is mostly elevated by its performances. The whole cast is really exceptional in this movie, but it is a typical biopic that we see multiple times ever year. Its a little clichéd but the acting and directing is enjoyable enough that it is still a good watch and the story itself is actually quite interesting.
Visually stunning. Humour doesn't fit. Story fucked up.
Not like this... I'm fan of the old Mummy movies with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz and I was expecting something similar but this movie is completely something else and to be honest nothing works in this movie. The relationship between main characters has no intensity, Mummy isn't scary at all and the plot is also weird. We can see another bad guy "original" escape. I don't know why film makers have to do the same mistakes over and over and make us suffer :( Average movie I will forget in 10 days. What a shame.
It's actually a sad story, how quality became quantity... Pretty sure the first burgers weren't rubbish like nowadays.
The first time I saw this movie, it felt all wrong. 15 years later, it still feels a lot is missing. It's still a nice flick to watch over while on the plane or catch it on late night cable, but not something I would spend money to buy.
It's nothing like the other movies in the series. Very mature, dark and brutal but also authentic in it's own way. The best movie in the X-men universe.
Eva Mendes is very annoying in this movie, but Kevin James and Will Smith save it.
Didn't enjoy it that much as i thought i will be. I remember it from my youth years with fond but it was pretty lame. Nothing happened in the movie, everything was so fast and without any plot. Bad for a b-movie as well.
Big HBO production. Slow gripping storyline following both humans and android/robot/replicant. Probably the best show of 2016.
[Edit 2020] After watching the second and third season, I would recommend NOT to watch the 2nd season and ignore completely the 3rd one, despite the fact that 3 more season are planned. The reason is whereas the 1st season is close to the original material, the interesting bits of the slow 2nd season are dropped in the 3rd one and replaced by a very boring simplistic story line. I would go as far as comparing it to Altered Carbon (another science fiction show that has more emphasis on action and CGI than actual character development and story) . I have therefore dropped the rating accordingly.
From movie to movie this series just gets worse. I was really disappointed even though I didn't even expect too much of this hopefully really last instalment. I enjoyed that some characters and scenes kind of returned but otherwise it was dreadful to watch this really cheesy and predictable movie…
It felt like the plot was all over the place and there was no real story. I liked the first one, the second one was meh and from the third one it got worse with every new movie. The ending leaves a plot open for another one but at this time unless they really do something different they should just leave it at this as far as i'm concerned.
So if a movie doesn´t have tons of explosions and hundreds of CGI shots it gets lower rates ? Otherwise I´m at a loss to explain why the average for this is so low (It was below 7 at the time of writing). Me, I could watch two hours of Cate Blanchett sitting on a chair. Beautifully made movie, enjoyed every second.
Michael Keaton steals the scene in this movie as he makes us progressively hate him while the story unfolds. Don't know the accuracy of facts, but it was certainly entertaining. Recommend it.
This was not very good. I guessed all the major plot points 10 mins in advance and I'm bad at guessing things. Worst being the first and major plot point of the movie where there was no reason for anyone to guess it!
Disappointment by Zemeckis not his finest work. Very mediocre with a story that dragged out and a finish that left no one with surprise.
I decided to watch this film after Stephen Fry mentioned it on the show QI. I was pleasantly suprised at how good it was, you do get the sense from the first half of the movie that they are just building up to something that really happened and you pretty much know what it is by reading the Synopsis, but the second half of the movie featuring the German Spy was very good at adding tension to the film and I found myself gripped that it could all be undone at any second. I'd recommend this film to anyone who is interested in the historical films about WW2 (even though there is a lot's added to the story for dramatic effect) and for those who like a good spy story.
Is this where I can admit that this is my favorite post-Cold War spy movie, and is maybe my favorite spy movie period? I know it's not for everyone, but some stuff about it just hit all the notes I want from a big sprawling one of these.
Different. Smart. Wried at times. Good script. Some good effects. I liked the cast and the kid did a good job on the narrating as well as the acting, his voice fitted for the film. Films that are done with narrating always come off good. XD
My father was a Corpsman (medic) like Doss and he has always yearned for a film to portray what they go through. What is most remarkable about this film is that they actually had to tame some of the heroics as they thought the truth would have been too unbelievable. My father said that if you were only ever going to see one war movie, this should be it.
Most of Second World War movies are inspired by the war in Europe, so you know the cruelty of the european side of war. With Hacksaw Ridge, prepare yourself for Okinawa.
I really love war movies, in fact I really love WW2 movies. I've watched a lot of them. And since Saving Private Ryan, none had made me feel like this movie. Powerful, inspiring... Really, really great!
Can't remember the last time a movie made me cry this much. Such a powerful movie, with great scenes, romance, laughter, tears through sadness and joy. I can't say I've seen a lot of war movies, but this one really opened my eyes, very well directed with great actors. I can't get over how strong this movie was, oh my god my face is still puffy and I feel so emotionally drained thinking about every person who has ever gone to war, either died fighting for what they thought was right or coming back and having to deal with losing so many friends and most having to live with PTSD. Wow, what a movie.
Meh. It's getting more and more ridiculous. But I should be honest, that as a movie it's quite entertaining. So... yeah.
So I just got back home from watching it and I have to admit that it was a total waste of time and money.
As soon as the baby was introduced and it was said that Dom needs to pick his name, I immediately told my friend that his name will be Brian, and it was.
The chase scene on the ice was so stupid that it ruined the entire movie for me. They are being chased and suddenly, out of nowhere, Hobbs's car rams a chaser's car head on from the side.
At the same scene Charlize Theron character says that the submarine is moving too slow and it won't make it before the cars, a second later the submarine goes up and somehow catches up with the cars and keeps up with them.
At the end Dom blew up a nuclear submarine, a stupid thing on it's own but then a massive fire wave from the exposition is blocked by 4 cars leaving Dom not even slightly scorched.
Yes, the movie has funny moments but comedy genre movies have more funny moment.
I have never rated a movie so low but the holes are just too stupid.
Gets into the heart and soul of what it means to be an actor in Star Trek. Shatner had fantastic talks with each of the captains, and talked about how the role affected them. I particularly loved the conversation he had with Patrick Stewart.
The first season is great but the writing gets worse by the season, with characters becoming incredibly stale and stories becoming increasingly repetitive.
Rather annoying, don't like these Drama + Comedy mixes. Misses longer plots.
