@ Chris Carter stop trying to make this weird Scully/Smoking Man thing happen. It is just disgusting and absolute nonsense retconning.
And what is with with this lazy backtracking of the mytharc plot. Season 10 opened with Mulder's epiphany that every alien interaction was really just the government using alien technology and now the entire finale of season 10 is inconsequential because it never actually happened.
I don't know what this show is doing anymore, but some progression (hey, maybe even a resolution!) would be nice.
Wow...that was intense! I knew Eva Green was good, but after this show I would say she is nothing less than great. Beside that I think what really worked here around her stellar performance is the excellent characters development of the other ones, I mean even if is she obviously stealing the scene, if you really look into the storytelling aspect are the other characters actions and how do they realate to her situations that make the Whole episode work so good.
I'm not sure about the Frankenstein bit, it seemes a bit patched up and somehow break the tension, though of course it reminding viewers about his own ungoing sub storyline it could have been skipped to keep a more tighten story. Beside that I have liked that "bro" moment in the shooting basement sequence between Victor and Ethan.
If this is good, guess I'm getting old. Terrible teenage drama.
1% story advancement, 99% filler. I expect this sort of padding from shows that have to fill 22 episodes a season, but that's not the case here. The show really had some momentum going, but then it slowed the pace last episode before slowing it even more with this one.
Didn't necessarily think they needed an episode from the parents perspective but glad they did in the end. Good world building this ep and really liked the scene with Molly and Gert at the end. It works well having them as sisters in this version.
I hope of all the changes they make they don't shy away from Karolina's sexuality though. It would be a shame to ignore a key part of her identity.
"Directed by Jonathan Frakes". Attaboy! You show 'em how it's done, Riker!
I actually like where this is heading, with all the Nazi-like humans. Sure, it's a cliché, an alternate universe where humans are a ruthless, merciless race, but it's still fun. Bonus: by having the story moved to an alternate universe, I can stop worrying that this doesn't feel like Star Trek, because it doesn't have to, now. That being said, I like where this sci-fi show is heading, it's definitely popcorn worthy.
Wow this was a confusing mess of an episode. Cmon X-Files' writers, you can do better.
This one has such an insane amount of exposition and info-dumping that it makes me wonder if the team behind it is even remotely familiar with the old "Show, don't tell" adage. Add in a lot of seriously clunky dialogue and you're left with a disappointing season premiere that couldn't even be saved by an interesting reveal at the end.
So it turns out that the Smoking man is William's father... Well, that's just disturbing and it kind of ruins the show for me... It was weak season premiere, I was expecting more...
⊗ At the end of last season's cliffhanger, I asked for a My Struggle III (or a 3rd movie). Two years later, they really gave us a My Struggle III, and there literally was some physical struggling.. Good save, Mulder, good save!
I'm so over these Chris Carter episodes. Very poorly written - clunky dialogue and way too many bland voice overs. And that car chase scene was awfully shot. I've never seen so many close ups on stepping on the gas pedal before. We even had a double tap once.
Carter should stop writing and directing. Just like last season, I fear his episodes will be the weakest ones.
Chris Carter should stop writing episodes. The season premiere, and this one, both written and directed by him, have easily been the worst of this season. Everything else, written by other people, was great. Also, Miller and Einstein are terrible - if they're being set up to become the main characters of future seasons, I'm out.
Since they only had a 6 episode season; I wish they would focus on the main story more. Like in the 2002 finale; the Cigarette Smoking Man said there would be an alien take over in 2012. Need to explain why that never happened. And how the Cigarette Smoking Man who was blown to bits is even back.
Hopefully they explain that in the finale but they can't cover all the answers in one episode. I always liked the filler episodes the most in the show.
But a filler about Mulder trying to communicate with a terrorist in a coma by taking schrooms ? Not the best writing the show has ever seen. At least Mulder on schrooms led to a very brief Lonegun men cameo and some laughs though.
One boring critic on rottentomatoes said Chris Carter clearly forgot how to do the X-Files. No season 8-9 and I Want to Believe is him forgetting how to do the X-Files.
Episodes like this is definitely the X-Files. Mulder trying to figure out technology of today like how to take pics on his phone of the monster; is good stuff.
Were-Monster reminds me of classic episodes like Bad Blood.
Only fully grown shows can afford a special episode like this. Only an audience with a mature mind can enjoy so much fun. It's like taking a very enjoyable vacation.
By the way, have you notice the inscription on the tombstone? It's Kim Manners, former producer of X-Files. (https://www.tvinsider.com/70160/touching-x-files-tribute-to-kim-manners-legacy/ )
The moment of "I just killed three generations of one family" really wrecked me. I can't even imagine a soldier trying to cope with that.
A great ending to the first season of the surprise show of the year (well, for me, at least).
Messing around with the Prime Directive was always fun in Star Trek and, as expected, it was fun in The Orville, too. Though this episode does borrow a lot from a few specific Star Trek episodes, I don't see it as something bad or as some sort of cop-out, but as a tribute done right. The Orville is like a covers album of Star Trek, but one done with care, love and respect. Long gone is the satire show everyone was expecting ("Family Guy in space", as I thought of it myself, at the beginning of the season). What we got, instead, was something that easily fits the Star Trek lore. The Orville will never be part of Star Trek (though I'm still waiting/praying for Patrick Stewart to show up as Jean-Luc Picard in some weird quasi-crossover), but as I watch each episode I actually keep forgetting that this is not Star Trek. Thats "mission accomplished" in my book.
Well done, Seth! Looking forward to the second season, it cannot come soon enough!
Man, this Madani chick is really stupid... Or should I say she's written stupid?
Saw that one coming from a mile away...Question is, when will Frank see it?
Superb! This was Star Trek - sorry - The Orville at its finest!
The Orville already had a couple of episodes lingering around moral dilemmas, à la Star Trek, and now there's this great space exploration episode, also akin to the good old Star Trek style.
This show has exceeded all expectations, I truly hope it gets renewed for a second season.
I actually loved this episode, Still taking some getting used to though, I have to keep reminding myself, It's not Star Trek. I would very much like to see another season of The Orville and has one commenter said, it'll be the making or breaking of the show,... I'm hoping it'll be the making, to be honest, I love anything Sci-Fi related that helps me escape from this Backwater Rock of a Planet, even if its just for a short time. Get Writing Seth!
Excellent episode. I loved the focus on Grayson. A while ago I was sad that Adrianne Palicki left Agents of Shield, but now I see it as a blessing in disguise! She is fantastic as Kelly Grayson and I can’t inagine anyone else in this part.
The ending was literally a deus ex machina ending, which is not a bad thing. It wrapped up the episode in a decent fashion.
This is the season finale and I am sad that it’s going away for a while, I can’t wait until season two.
Catch-come!
Frustrating that there's Misty again with all her questions. She's really annoying. Either kill her off or make her useful.
Tons of action in this one after all her annoying interrogations though.
As if he wanted to prove it to us, Danny shows us that he really is the most stupid character of the Defenders universe.
Of course that fucker Bakuto is alive. I hate him so much. He's an awfully weak villain and the actor who plays him definitely didn't go in the right direction with his performance. It's like he was aiming for the Charismatic Bad Guy, only he's yet to show any actual charisma. I want to roll my eyes whenever this guy is on screen.
So we got all the people that the Defenders care about in one room and they didn't interact with each other? That's bullshit.
I don't like how the others ganged up on Matt because of Elektra. Tone down that holier-than-thou attitude. You all have your secrets. And it's not like any of you would've acted differently if you were in his situation.
The overhead shot of Elektra curling up on Matt's bed surrounded by gray with her red costume spilling out from underneath her coat looked like some kind of a baroque painting. I would totally frame it and hang it on a wall in my living room. It was exquisite.
Misty is useless, now is in Jessica's way like she was Luke's in their show. Positives is better writing for Danny and a cool fight with Luke. I like that Danny isn't telling every single person he meets "I am the Iron Fist!"
Glad that is over with. Super hero? Super wussy rather. Christ, spare me more of these whining self loathing useless "super heroes" and give me some real kick ass ones instead.
Does not leave you with the wish to see the second season. It was not bad, it was simply an average tv show.
I'm pretty sure there was something at k'un lun that prevented mental growth, because Danny is still acting like a 10 year old throwing tantrums when things don't go his way. I even know 10 year olds that are far more mature him. I don't know which is worse, the casting of Danny or the writing of the character itself. I guess both are equally terrible. Sorry, Finn, but you were not meant to play this role. I can't believe this unstable child is presented to be the greatest warrior of all time. When even fighting a DRUNK he struggles.
