Downton Abbey: A New Era

I swear I would watch this show until their future generations are in the year 3000, I am so invested.

Love the journey. The set. The wardrobe. The acting. The laughs. The absolutely heartbreak. I love it all.

Barbie

Put off seeing this movie because of all the hype. Then I bought it and have watched it several times since.

Hilarious. Poignant. Fanciful. Real.

Truly beyond my wildest expectations.

Daisy Jones & the Six

I really enjoyed the book (the audiobook was stellar). But man, this show. My heart is aching now that it’s over. I love the soundtrack. Sam and Riley - wow. I absolutely loved this entire journey and once I stop crying I’ll likely rewatch

TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR

Full disclosure: I am a Swiftie. One who didn’t want to spend all that money to be around all those screaming people in the stadiums (or the movie theater, to be honest), and didn’t watch the internet videos that people posted - so I’m only just now watching it on the comfort of my own couch.

This was better than I could have imagined. Yes, I loved the music but it was way more than that.

The sets - holy moly. In-freakin-credible. Whoever designed them is a genius. More than a show, this was an experience for sure.

Her back up dancer Kameron steals the show. I don’t even need to tell you who he is, you’ll know. He’s perfection in human form and he deserves all the success.

And finally - 3.5 hours?!?! But… how?!!! She did this every weekend!! I got tired just watching this.

Elf

My favorite Christmas movie. A must watch every season!

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Really great story line and I liked the different styles of animation. I am really looking forward to where the story goes from here. There are some parts that a nods at other spiderman movies - that was a lot of fun.

My husband couldn’t watch the animation because it triggered a headache, so be forewarned.

The Neighbors

Bingeing this show because it’s going off Hulu in a week. I LOVE it. I’m so sad it is only two seasons.

It’s so goofy. But it’s fantastic for belly laughs. Can it be cringe? Heck yeah. But it’s worth it.

Humans - TNLBTAFTW! (They never learn but they are fun to watch)

Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai

I have loved Gremlins since I was a little girl. I LOVE this show. The animation is weird but I adjusted to it quickly. This is a prequel, the backstory of how The Old Man got Gizmo. It’s weird and dark, and magical in ways that would not translate to live action. I will forever remain hopeful for a Gremlins 3, but for a prequel I cannot wait to see where this goes.

Also - this has an all star cast, Steven Spielberg produced, and written by the OG Gremlins writer.

10/10 totally recommend, especially for fellow Gremlins fans. It’s not what we grew up on, but it’s enough to keep that nostalgia alive.

Tetris

I’ve loved the game since I was little but was not expecting to love this movie. It was really fast paced and kept my attention. It was really a wild ride. I definitely recommend it, even if you don’t think you’d enjoy it.

The Lego Batman Movie

This movie was so funny! Laugh out loud, sometimes I couldn’t hide a snort, type of funny. Very clever and hilarious. Something for everyone. I cannot believe how much I enjoyed this (I am not the intended audience by far).

Anna and the Apocalypse

I LOVE this movie. Starts out like a Christmas high school musical movie. Then there are zombies. It’s perfect. I mean, it’s flawed and silly, but it’s in my top 3 favorite Christmas movies, HANDS DOWN.

Rosaline

This movie was excellent. It was exactly what I was looking for today - hilarious and fun. I laughed more than I thought. The acting was great, too. I highly recommend!

Space Jam: A New Legacy

With all the cameos and Easter eggs, I don’t understand the bad reviews. It was silly, but it was a LOONEY TUNES movie! It was laugh out loud funny. Was LeBron a good actor? Of course not, but be honest - was MJ? Don’t come into this thinking it’s a sequel or expecting it to bring you the same feelings it did when you watched the original when you were 7 years old. And don’t go into it thinking it is about coding (with Acme physics you’re questioning the fact the coding story line isn’t accurate, yeah ok). But definitely DEFINITELY look into the background and enjoy all those WB characters. This movie made me nostalgic. Not for the original space jam, but for cartoons and movies of my youth. 9/10, a fun escape.

Red, White & Royal Blue

Huge book fan here! But also, a realist when it comes to a book adaptions.

I love these adaption! Was it perfect? Heck no. Did they leave a lot out? You betcha. Was the book better? Times a billion. But they got a lot right - including at least capturing some of the butterflies the book gave me!

I don’t know how they did it, but the casting of Prince Henry was PERFECT for me. I don’t know this actor but he was exactly who I pictured when reading. I also liked Alex. They seemed to have good chemistry and were easy on the eyes.

But listen - the movie totally underutilized the side characters. It’s criminal how much they underutilized them. Please read the book and you’ll see what I mean. Go on, I’ll wait.

Beautiful movie for an absolutely brilliant and wonderful book.

Also did you see what book Alex was reading on the hammock? That’s another you should read (wondering if they’ll be adapting that next??)

Poor Things

I really loved this movie. Which surprised me because I expected to not like it. But I really did enjoy it.

The acting was really great. Emma Stone and William Defoe blew it out the water. She definitely deserved that Oscar.

The effects were interesting. I did enjoy the contrasts from black/white to vibrant color. I thought it was impressively well done.

The sex scenes were plentiful but they played a part in the plot. It wasn’t gratuitous. Well, maybe someone can argue it was at least a bit. But it was definitely a plot piece. And probably some social commentary but I just want to use movies as an escapism, so read another review for that.

All in all, a brilliant movie. Fantastic performances. Impressive. If you’re not a minor and not ashamed of the human body/natural impulses, give it a go.

Wonka

I did not have high expectations. The OG movies terrified me as a child. And I am not obsessed with Timothee like the majority of people I know. Plus I have to be in the mood for musicals…

That being said, what a magical journey.

This movie was spectacular from start to finish. The music was great, but not overwhelmingly present. The story line fascinating. Absolutely enjoyed every minute. Perfect casting. I have l no complaints whatsoever.

I loved this movie. By far the best movie I’ve seen in 2024. I really hope they continue this series. I can’t wait to see how Timothee’s Willy becomes Gene Wilder’s Wonka.

Blue's Big City Adventure

I watched this for nostalgia purposes, and it did not disappoint. It was great to see Steve again. Absolutely a gem of a movie. Feel good message, silly fun, and unexpected cameos. If you’ve ever appreciated Blue’s Clues in any form, I recommend it.

Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers

Fantastic movie! More nostalgia than Space Jam offered but with a much, much MUCH better plot. Hilarious and heartwarming. My favorite part is they addressed all the weird parts… except one. And you’ll know what I’m talking about when you watch it… Regardless, this is a must see for all elder millennials.

School's Out!

I am a huge Degrassi TNG fan, and I’ve been making my way through the earlier franchises.

Fun fact: this movie is the first and second time the F-word was dropped on Canadian tv.

I loved this entire journey, including School’s Out. It’s very Joey heavy, but lots of the favorites are around, too.

All in all, this was a great send off to these characters (some we see in minor storylines in DNG!), and I enjoyed the early 90s of it so.

It did need more Zit Remedy, though…

Freaky Friday

I only watched this movie because I really enjoy the 2003 version. And I’m so glad I did! I liked it even more than the LiLo-Jamie Lee Curtis version.

Barbara Harris absolutely blew me away. Jodie Foster apparently has always been talented.

This was seriously laugh out loud funny. It’s corny as hell but in the best way. I am definitely going to watch this goofy movie again whenever I need a pick me up.

The Burial

The acting and casting was superb. I really enjoyed this movie! I didn’t google how much of the story was true because I’d like to believe it all was at least mostly accurate.

I usually avoid “based on a true story” movies because real life is such a drag. But I am so glad I took a chance on this.

Not to mention - that soundtrack is fantastic.

Totally Killer

I LOVED this movie. It’s okay, judge me. It was the perfect Halloweeny movie for me. Silly horror with a sci fi flavor. I thought it was hysterical. Also what a great cast. I’d definitely watch again and again.

Strange World

Fantastic movie. Visually very appealing. Likable characters. Great story line. Awesome message. I really loved it.

Disney has done a disservice not marketing this movie. I know that must be in direct relation to the main character being gay. But with that, I have to say, it’s about time! If you’re going to be a bigot, don’t see the movie. You’re only hurting yourself!

Mistletoe Mixup

Full disclosure: I would have loved this even if it was a pile of crap because of my deep seated love for the Lawrence brothers.

This was SO much fun. I laughed out loud a few times. Yes, I did cringe a bit (it gets a bit awkward, I mean read the synopsis!), but Matthew Lawrence makes up for it. There’s definite chemistry between him and Danielle C. Ryan. And the rest of the cast is so much fun (it’s the whole family!).

Andy did a great job directing. All in all, I really love this movie. The song in the credits (by Joey of course) is a Christmas bop!

Falling for Christmas

I love this cheesy ridiculously silly movie. It’s like a manic fever dream. There are no transitions, just bam bam bam. I love Ralph and Alejandra, they definitely steal the show. I really hoping this is the beginning of LILO’s redemption.

Don’t go into this expecting a masterpiece - you’ll be miserable. But if you go into this with low expectations and just hope for Christmas fun, you’ll enjoy the journey.

I hope they do a sequel. I hope it’s more cheesy, more ridiculous, and the silliest. The perfect Christmas escape.

If You Were the Last

This movie is super unrealistic with cheesy sets and goofy production.

And i LOVED it.

The acting was great and I believed the chemistry of the two main characters.

Full disclosure, my husband walked out on it half way through with clear instructions of “don’t tell me how it ends because I don’t care,” so it’s clearly not for everyone.

But the movie sure was for me!

The Hip Hop Nutcracker

I don’t know why this has such low ratings! This was such a fun way to spend 45 minutes. Exceptionally talented cast and I am so thankful with the increased representation. I haven’t seen The Nutcracker since I was a young kid, but I didn’t remember it being this entertaining.

My only complaint is the flashes of light in the movie gave me a bit of a headache. I’m sure there was a morning in the beginning but I must’ve missed it. Still worth it. This definitely will be added to my yearly holiday watch list!

Muppets Haunted Mansion

Very fun and easy watch. Quick muppets and haunted mansion fix. Lots of laughs and so much from the ride. I agree that kermit’s voice isn’t up to par, but I’ll add this to my Halloween yearly movie binge. A definite watch if you love the muppets and the Haunted Mansion ride. Enjoy!

Freaky Friday

I thought I had seen this movie, but maybe I thought I was too “cool” when this came out my senior year of high school. Because trust me when I say I woulda remembered CMM with that skater haircut!!!

Watching this now, I expected to roll my eyes. But I loved it. The music was great. It was nice to see LiLo in her first prime (rooting for her comeback). And you know that Jamie Lee Curtis knocked this out of the park. I also loved Mark Harmon (even though I am so uncomfortable that I found him attractive and the unbelievable fact I am currently closer to his age in this movie than I am to CMM).

All in all, this was fun. Great soundtrack. Glad I took the time to give it a shot. I’ll try the original one now!
