Got a refund and left 5 mins in after hearing "don’t forget to laugh at all their jokes. white people love that shit". I don't support racial remarks of any kind.
Well, perhaps Marvel's animated universe finally has a chance when having to compete with the likes of this.
didn't know skinny, soft-spoken teashop-owner Colin Farrell was something I needed to watch until now
"In this office satire..." satire? This is supposed to be a satire?
There's a few chuckles in this, the rest is listening in on the voice over of a mentally ill person, making sstories up about the people around him. The entire rest of the cast is nothing more than noise to fill the room, pun not intended. I am not quite sure what the satire is supposed to be here. There's no structure, no focus, no clear goal. Is it that offices are dead ends? Every person is afraid of the boss of their floor? Striving to be better than anybody else to make someone else the money? Being replaceable despite being the best in your division? How mental disorders are viewed? I don't know. I don't find anything satirical about this, nor engaging for that matter.
This movie is not just very weird but cynical, cold, depressive and lacks any kind of focus and resolve.
It's definitely not a satire for that it lacks any kind of finesse and the story is not particularly clear in what it wants to tell.
A decent contemplative film on what it means to be alive and to have lived. Beautifully shot and the future world is realized and hinted at in a great way. My main nitpick is you kind of get it within the first hour and the film keeps hitting the same themes again and again.
Great story, great acting. Really good movie.
Exactly the kind of movie I needed today.
It’s a great movie. I’ve had this in my library for a long time and just came around to watching it now. I should have watched it as soon as I got it. It’s not just a story of heroism but also of a brotherhood. Great story-telling!
just watch the cartoon, this was a total mess!
Why even bother to keep humans around? We require food, we require nurture, and we are unable to overcome even our most basal instincts. We are a pestilence. AI is the natural successor to achieve what we can not.
It respects the original film and pays homage to it with many emotional moments. It still delivers an exiting new cast and it was fun to watch them work together keeping the quirky humour intact that we expect from a ghostbusters movie. Stay puft in your seat and watch!
Pretty well done, but not really my cup of tea. I thought it was sad and kind of depressing, not scary. And I can appreciate that the acting is very good, and the story interesting and pretty unique, but I wouldn't call it the best movie I've ever seen. I have questions about the plot though, like who insists that their 13-year-old go to a high school party? What person with a nut allergy eats food without asking if there are nuts in it? Why was Charlie not carrying an Epipen? Why did none of the characters feel like they were connected to each other? Why did there need to be a demonic element? Is Ari Aster okay? Also I wish they'd done more with the miniatures, because that shit is cool.
It's fair to say that the pilot episode for the Stargate TV show was nothing special, and doesn't really capture the adventure, sci-fi creativity or comedy that the show would become known for. The script doesn't do the characters much justice and the performances are kind of stilted. Michael Shanks does a spot on impression of James Spader and the only returning actor from the original film is Alexis Cruz as Skaara.
So I'm really glad that this "final cut" version of the pilot was made, because it improves things. The overall pacing is tightened up and a lot of silly dialogue is removed or altered (including some horribly sexist stuff). The unnecessary nudity is excised completely, allowing this to fit with the more family friendly nature of the rest of the show. There are updates to some visual effects and the soundtrack music is changed. And most of the film uses alternate takes and better line readings which result in more natural acting.
It's still difficult to recommend this as the beginning of one of my favourite TV franchises. There's a cheapness to the whole thing - those snake head serpent guards are terrible, especially compared to how cool their movie counterparts looked. The new bad guy isn't intimidating in the least and the tone is a bit too varied.
But the concepts here are great. I love the expansion of the mythology as we learn of a vast network of stargates across the galaxy. Similarly, the introduction of the Goa'uld and Jaffa works well with a nice creepy factor. And the main characters are wonderful even if they're not developed well at this point. Richard Dean Anderson lightens the mood in Kurt Russel's role and Amanda Tapping is the coolest, smartest most kickass astrophysicist/air force captain while also being just plain fun.
The one thing I really miss here is the removal of the little twist at the end with Kawalkski which was pretty much the best thing in the original pilot, and really drew me in to keep watching.
Stargate SG-1 is MUCH better than this pilot movie would have you believe, but I think nostalgia always helps for me. I was into this show from the very start and even collected it on VHS back when it became available. Maybe time to start a full rewatch?
Hands down the best (horror/thriller) movie I've watched this year. I love Kevin Bacon and I'm into everything he does, but this was a great story and exceptional acting (also by the kid).
watch the original 1980s Movie with Unicron in it it was much better than this.
things I can think off that were bad/annoying about this movie
-too many cheesy lines
-not enough of Unicron destroying planets
-where was Galvatron?
-no Decepticons
-no Rodimus?
-why not use the Matrix to destroy Unicron?
-soundtrack was rubbish (Could have used at least some of the originals like)

This is a movie about Rocco The Star & Rocco The Human Being. I really appreciate this movie because it seems to be truthful about him and his own fight with life ! Photography & Filmmaking are pretty good, and it shows you another manner to look porn picture. Indeed there is no XXX pictures in this movie because of the picture frame who hide constantly sex parts, but you can see the result of a porn scene on the other parts of the actor's body ... Interesting way of watching ... Good Film
This was a good film, though i was nearly always on mother's side.
Really one of the only ethical problems was the whole her killing the children that were "imperfect" though we don't get any clarification.
What if she was killing children who had inoperable brain defects which would make them murderously violent in later life. And now that the human girl will allow any child to live, that may happen. Even if mother may later tell her that will happen, daughter won't do anything and let it happen or keep the person contained in later life, i guess. I don't know.
But yeah it's most likely she was killing children who weren't perfect in other ways, which of course is wrong and mother should have known it was wrong for logical reasons, but the writer wanted the story or this aspect to be more against mother's side, so it's written this way.
So if you take away mother killing the imperfect children, you don't have much reason to be against mother's plan.
Restarting humanity as a utopia. With the best education and resources. And even if the mines were real, it would be full of flawed humanity and they may all starve to death or destroy each-other. Plus, in the facility, they would have the technology to one day research maybe how to destroy the droids (if mother was actually just an independant care droid).
So i was nearly always on mother's side as the movie progressed. The final twist didn't alter much.
The line of dialogue "I saw them (the droids) torturing babies" doesn't make sense given mother's plan and personality. Especially given it's supposed to be one consciousness, or something.
I kinda liked that mother planned for that woman to arrive at the facility. That cleared up a contrivance that the woman just happened to arrive at the facility at that specific time.
Mother's plan was a bit convoluted. But still, it was alright. I don't fully buy the independance angle at the end, from daughter's or mother's side, but i'll roll with it. I still think humanity would be better guided by mother, and as humanity grew she would take on a more advisory role, or something.
I don't think I've seen a psychological horror with a vibe as deliberately goofy as this one (especially considering the subject matter), and the soundtrack really heightens the goofiness, but it pulls it off much better than James Wan's 'Malignant' did. I appreciated the fake TV shows inserted throughout, based on 'Doctor Who' and the other wacky sitcoms (as this movie is inspired by that 'Max Headroom' signal highjacking incident).
The main issue I have is the sloppy editing - sometimes cutting between locations or skipping ahead in time, without establishing that we've jumped forward a few hours or switched to a new character - it's mildly disorienting. Meanwhile the sound design was great, a lot of subtle and gradual changes that made me question the film's reality. The main character, James, is also either a bad actor or acting bad, I can't tell which but it's off-putting how emotionless his emotions come through. 'Broadcast Signal Intrusion' is a fun, quaint, little mystery to follow as it unravels.
Early screening. This was really great and lots of fun. Recommended!
Great to watch once, too sad for me to watch again. Very touching.
Marketed as a horror movie judging by the trailer. Ended up being a noir mystery type movie with horror themes. I wouldnt mind the misleading marketing at all if this still ended up being good. Alas, this ended up being a very bland dull movie. Melodramatic, hammy, and uninspired, even down to the generic mystery movie music style soundtrack. I will say though the horror imagery (what little there is, anyways) was truly unsettling and well executed.
I don’t really understand how this has gotten such a good overall rating. The only good bit throughout was when the little girl hilariously lost her head.
There's a thin line that separates a movie from becoming a parody . This movie crossed that line.
don't worry; is only smells
Mystery driven horror film with compelling story that stays interesting all the way through, haunting imagery that gets under your skin, and excellent performance from lead character.
