A comedy should be judged by if you laugh. A horror movie should be judged by if it is frightening. If this movie was judged by its ability to put an audience to sleep, it would be great. It's a horror movie, though, so a fail. I'm not saying I saw the end coming, but all the characters acted like they were just serving the plot instead of being actual people. Toni Collette's performance (or was it the script?) was incredibly uneven as she moved from unaffected to completely traumatized...sometimes within the same sequence. I actually liked the final story reveal and it was certainly built throughout. The problem is it took forever to get there and I hated every character so much, I couldn't care less if they lived or died. Garbage that every critic wanted to use "heightened" in a review will be lining up to kiss its ass. Here's the thing...my theater was full and never even a gasp. Did hear one dude snoring, though. See at your own risk.
Fun but it starts out better than it ends. The cast is perfect through-out though. Samara Weaving gives a fine wtf is going on performance while being pretty badass at the same time.
You might be disappointed if you were hoping for family members killed one by one sort of movie though. I expected the movie to be more like You’re Next for example.
"Come out to the coast, we'll get together, have a few laughs..."
This is just the right amount of weird with a good amount of humor. Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone all give fantastic performances. It's hard to say which one was the best because they all play so well off each other. Nicholas Hoult does a pretty good job too. The cinematography was great. I love the wide angle shots and the way the camera moves is wonderful. The score, the sets, the costumes are all top notch. This is definitely Yorgos Lanthimos's best movie so far and I think he is one of the more interesting directors working today. It's even better after a rewatch.
This is so unnecessarily over the top with everything and yet still boring.
There was a bit of hype surrounding this movie, and it's actually more a coming of age movie than a straight cannibal movie. However , there's one particular scene to make you uneasy for sure, and some others in much lesser degree (or so this horror hound speaks).. It reminded me a bit of Ginger Snaps but with another horror palette so to speak. This still means you should see this movie! Fingerlicking good....
Unnecessarily over the top action, too much macho man bullshit, and annoying editing; yeah this is a Michael Bay movie. I liked Martin Lawrence and Will Smith's chemistry but everything else is too much.
I swear this movie NEVER gets old! Right up there with The Goonies, in my opinion :)
I cant believe the low score on here, this is one of the best comedies of all time, Steve Martin at his peak. Really funny throughout, I watched it last night on blu ray, first time in years and to see a film I love looking so clear and pristine was great. Kathleen Turner is fantastic as Delores. If you love comedies please give this a try.
This movie was so bad, I didn't find even one aspect of the movie as good. Of course, there are a few moments that actually work as horror but all the other parts of the movie ruin your experience.
The movie stars so bad (soooooooo f***ing bad), especially the overused makeup, and then you realize it's a nightmare. But you don't know if it really happened two years ago or it just pure imagination (if you consider the original franchise you can guess it was Laurie's imagination but Rob Zombie changed a lot of information about the story throughout the whole story, so you still know nothing).
You know I can overlook Rob Zombie not taking what happened at the original franchise as facts, but I can't overlook when he just ignores what happened in the previous film in the new franchise (it happened also in the original franchise but at the original franchise every movie was directed by another director and not by the fucking same).
The previous movie in the new franchise was very good and interesting to new viewers and old viewers both because it didn't change anything about the story, it just added information and it didn't base on another movie+changes. Also, the amazing theme song that Jon Carpenter wrote so perfectly wasn't used in this movie.
Now let's talk about Michael, both in the original franchise and in the previous movie in the new franchise adult Michael Myers has never walked with out a mask intentionally, also in the previous movie from the new franchise Michael used homemade masks and there's no explanation why he uses (the one time he actually wears a mask) the old mask from the original franchise. Oh and also why the fuck did Rob Zombie make Michael look like a hobo?
I usually don't write comments but this movie was so bad and it annoyed me so much that I had to, by the way, it's the only movie so far that I rated 1/10.
It's not good but you should expect that if you saw the trailer (or even just the name). I still can't believe that this got a theatrical release. Everything about this movie screams straight to vod. Everything is mediocre (at best), the action, the effects, the story, the acting, nothing is special about this movie. So many things don't make sense but this isn't the type of movie I'm going to question. And it has some of the worst southern accents I've ever heard. Also we never heard Rock You Like a Hurricane by Scorpions and that the most disappointing thing about this movie.
Worth a watch at least once.
I remember being terrified by this movie back when i first saw it as a kid, especially the ending got me nightmares. Still fun to watch it now for the second time.
About a 9 on the tension scale, Rube.
I liked that, it was lovely and it was different, definitely drew me in from the start. I liked the idea behind it too.
It's wonderful to see how well this movie has held up, the cast is charming and the jokes are still funny.
Starts out really baller but cannot really keep it up. Still not bad (esp. considering how cheap the poster looks).
The main character is such a bumbling dingus it's hard to take seriously. It's really awkward and clunky when characters stand around for an uncomfortable amount of time saying the same line over and over.
This was just enjoyable to watch. The main character was insane and unpredictable. The pace was very fast. The violent events whilst exploitation in nature always seem a bit classier as they relate to character's nature really well. Silva's role isn't too big or small and his time on screen is perfect. I watched an English dubbed version and it was fine.
There are a few ok parts but for the most part not as funny as the original or Christmas.
Best movie ever,my go to all the time
Paperhouse is an amazing movie. I hope this to get a remake, even liking the simplicity of this film.
This was a surprisingly great movie.
I saw it when it was somewhat new. Back then, my brother and I would each get one rental. I picked action/spy movies, he went straight to the horror section. And Paperhouse was one he picked. Today I wouldn't call Paperhouse a horror movie, but back then it was a little scary in a couple places.
Then I got a chance to see it again, in HD as well. The first two thirds are mostly what I remember. After that was all new to me. Maybe I fell asleep the first time?
Either way, great movie. Watched it with my wife. She'd never seen it before, or heard of it. Both of us were impressed.
I want to rate it higher, but for what it was, an 8 is generous. It's more deserving of a 7 or 7.5. I guess it gets the extra point for such a unique and imaginative story.
The twist is absolutely nuts. So many wtfs were said while watching this. I can't believe this actually got made. How did this get two Oscar winners? This feels like a bad mix of The Truman Show, Black Mirror and a Lifetime movie. Plus it seems like Steven Knight doesn't know what a video game is. Still it's worth a watch.
It was close to being weirdly enjoyable st first, but th lack of interesting development let it down. It drags the longer it goes on. There was no atmosphere to enjoy. Joe Spinell was cheesy but good.
Shrug from the cop at the end sums this movie up.
Cool, often-forgotten slasher flick. I guess you can say it's kind of is like an American giallo, with the black gloved killer and interesting detectives on the case. Not much actually takes place at or around night school, so that was a bit of a let down, but it's an interesting enough horror movie.
This movie was pretty funny. I don't know why there are bad comments when it was all around a good movie. I didn't understand the very end with the guys in the hot tub and the drug dealing black guy (that looked a little like Mr. T from the A-Team) drove his truck through the storefront and the guys all run out... was there supoosed to be a sequel?
