Jim Carrey is hilarious in his role as rubber-faced detective Tadek Ventura, in this laugh a minute farce that perfectly showcases his comedic tal...oh what am I saying. This is absolute twaddle - Carrey in a rare straight role is okay, but the film is dire. I don't mind films that are dark and gloomy, but this really is the worst. Dumb and Dumber To is no longer the worst film on Carrey's role sheet.
There's nothing here you haven't heard before, but the 60's footage was interesting, even when the narration covered familiar tropes about the time.
An entertainingly cathartic movie, but one with much resonance and power. A small triumph, not only for the cinema, but for #BlackLives Matter too.
Enjoyable black comedy. You might see the twist coming, but that's okay, because the interplay between the two leads is fun to watch.
Makes Porky's look like Citizen Kane! One of a slew of 80's t&a comedies that were popular in the VHS market, this is pretty much what you expect from the genre. Nudity aplenty, but not a lot of wit or anything approaching a coherent plot.
Enjoyable goofy fun; less than gripping when out of the car, but a bit of a thrill ride when behind the wheel.
Although Stevens and Hall are magnificent, as usual, the film has nothing new to say. Furthermore, the dialogue feels heavy-handed and forced, meaning we never quite buy into the relationship dramas that form the crux of the story.
A film with big aspirations but all with little consequence. Certainly not a comedy, but it's ill fitting within other genres. Drama? Romance? Sci-fi? A little bit of all, but nothing really rings true. I did enjoy the film, I realise it was trying to make political and ecological points, but I was a little underwhelmed. Alexander Payne has made some tremendous films, but this is small fry in comparison.
It was a decent film, had lots of good action, specially in the bed room.. that I can’t forget.. that I wish I never saw.. anyways.. I thought the plot could of had more detail, and the ending could of been better but that’s pretty much it..
Yes, it's a cute movie, and yes, it is a bit of a wish-fulfilment thing. But the catfishing thing does leave a nasty aftertaste, despite the Cyrano/Roxanne pretensions. Still, if you don't take it too seriously, you might enjoy it.
Bonkers kids film; not really a classic, but it has a certain charm if you're in the right mood.
The romantic angle doesn't quite work, the political strand was a little simplistic, but otherwise, this was a seasonally enjoyable comedy, with some great characters thrown into the festival mix.
Cute and quirky it may be, but it's also clumsy and misguided in its approach to mental illness. While Wood is a wonderful actress, she isn't helped by the unfocussed approach to her character, and Speedman isn't a strong enough actor to engage the heart.
Another enjoyable character-based drama from Holofcener, who seems to specialise in this kind of thing. Not life-changing, and not completely original, but it is worth your time.
A moving film, and a fascinating piece of film star history. I particularly loved the juxtaposition between Hollywood glamour and Liverpool life! Bening is wonderful, as she always is, and Bell and Walters are equally as fine. Film stars don't die in Liverpool, but they sure as heck leave their mark there.
Ironically, despite the title, this is a very slow moving film. While there is nothing wrong with that, I still found it difficult to warm to the characters within the story. While they are going through painful struggles, I still needed a little more development to engage me fully. Still, the performances are good, and it's worth a watch for the patient viewer.
A good film overall and a worthy tribute to the lives of the Granite Mountain Hotshots. Those expecting more action may be disappointed - this is more soap opera and family drama than firefighting thrills - but for those with patience, this is a heartbreaking tale.
I don't believe for a minute that the events in this film led to the writing of A Christmas Carol, but despite it being all a bit tinsel and glitter with no real substance, it is still an enjoyable and heartwarming tale. God bless you, everyone!
I love a good silent film and specially from these talented nutters ha
The first mess 20th Century Fox got the boys into! After leaving Hal Roach studios, L&H signed a contract with Fox, and it was to their detriment. With no creative control, they were shoehorned into a series of movies where their talents were wasted. You can clearly see this on screen - compare the comic timing of something like Way Out West with Great Guns - and you can see the steep drop in quality. Worse was yet to come, with the comic pairings enthusiasm for the roles they were given fading with each poor film they starred in.
According to imdb.com the DVD has 20 min of restored footage that wasn't included in the theatrical release. To be honest, they should have left it out. Because it lengthened the movie and leads to logical errors.
Still, as the first feature from Laurel and Hardy it is worth watching.
Slow going at times, but this is still a mildly affecting look at the trials and tribulations facing two young people in a small town community.
An abbreviated running time means the film never hits the emotional heights it should have. May have worked better as a tv miniseries or as a Netflix documentary. Still, despite the film's flaws and familiar feel, it's only right this true story came to the screen. Another reminder of the injustice prevalent in our police and justice system is never a bad thing.
Intriguing story, but sadly this is only a snapshot into what could have been a better film.
Absolute filth! Literally, this tale of sexual passion is set in the muddy domain of the Yorkshire dales. It's a familiar story, especially after Brokeback, but the two leads give it their all, both emotionally and sexually in this modest drama.
Once you attune yourself to screenwriter Daniel Clowes sense of humour (check out the graphic novel), you will enjoy this offbeat, occasionally very funny comedy a whole lot more.
*Fun fact: The film was originally going to be called 'Harrellson' with Owen Wilson in the lead, but a mixup in the Hollywood mailroom led to this film. I'm glad it did because Woody was great.
*Not a real fact, sorry.
Very good information, advice and insight on what we're eating in todays food and what the food was like years back and how It's changed and what it does to our health in the short term and long term.
After a literal rough night, I decided on watching this comedy as a light relief after the stresses of the evening. Sadly, the film didn't bolster my mood; the movie was light on laughs and anything remotely approaching a good script. Let's just hope tomorrow (and my movie choice) is a better one.
