A fitting end to the series with every major arc come to a close. Could it have been better? Yes, almost definitely. But it still lived up to the standards that Fairy Tail has always gone with.
The only way to describe the movie: a fantastical journey of imagination. The writing and the characters were all perfectly created. I wasn’t a huge fan of the music at first, but even that slowly won me over. Roald Dahl would be proud.
A very touching movie. The story was built upon with a perfectly paced climax. There were absolutely flaws throughout the movie, but overall, I enjoyed the parable-esque nature of the film.
Wow!! That movie was entirely captivating, there were so few moments where I felt I could even look away. As a lover of all sorts and varieties of music, I could feel the beat of the movie reverberating through my mind all the way through.
One of the best Slice of Life Anime I’ve seen in awhile. The build up of friendship and worldly experiences between the two main characters was perfect. Not to mention the witty dialogue was excellent through most of the season. The emphasis on art and animation (with a little Hina doll history too) was wonderfully represented.
After making it through a rather slow and uninteresting start, the prison arc and the closing episode really made for a solid entry into the Star Wars universe. However, it wasn’t the best it could’ve been. I wasn’t a huge fan of the speed in which the first arc was handled, there was a bit too much setup without defining the characters importance or details in a succinct way. There were also a bunch of random episodes that were very much filler, without many events at all with just barely enough action to pass as an episode at all. In the end, the slow start and filler held down what could’ve been outstanding.
The graphics for this Anime are typical of a 2000s Anime, but the story and the character development are really where this Anime takes the cake. I’ve always been a sucker for Tsundere character development, and Aoba Tsukishima has just reached one of the top spots. I couldn’t imagine a better story arc with it’s complex relationships and progression over time. Man this Anime really takes you for a ride. It’s probably less of a Sports Anime, and more along the lines of RomCom / Slice of Life — but without the cheesy Shoujo romance stuff. Highly recommended.
Having watched the original fullmetal alchemist first, I can easily say that this series was far superior. The graphics were just a slight bit better, the pacing was a little bit faster, and most importantly, the ending wasn't some incredibly rushed, hot garbage.
I'd go as far as to say, you only really need to watch FA: Brotherhood. But when I say that, know that I mean, you absolutely need to watch this Anime. It has incredibly cool world-building and the plot is ever-twisting and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
This prologue episode is a must, the plot setup, sword-fighting and animation is just too good to pass up.
"For real? This is happening in modern day Tokyo?!" I wholeheartedly agree with that sentiment.
This movie was trippy as hell. With a well-deserved R rating worth of violence. Still was a really entertaining film, even though I figured out the big trick a little earlier than when it was revealed.
Yup, that's definitely the way Cinderella was meant to be.
The sexual innuendo humor is top notch.
Definitely a good series, that much I can tell after the first season. For slice of life fans who also enjoy a little crazy drama, romance, and heartbreaking scenes that will leave you sobbing.
All jokes aside, the start felt kind of strange/slow to me. Granted, that was partially because I have seen "Sixth Sense" and I spent the first episode thinking Nagisa was the ghost of a girl who died that the students were gossiping about. Looks like I jumped the gun on that one, but she was being described as "invisible" and everyone ignored her. I was swearing she was the ghost up until the point Tomoya met her parents.
This Anime fits right in there with the best other rom/coms. I enjoyed the development of the characters throughout the story and while I guessed the general idea of what was going on, there was plenty of twists along the way that I didn't fully expect. If you want some serious who-loves-who drama, this Anime is perfect for you.
A fitting end to the series with every major arc come to a close. Could it have been better? Yes, almost definitely. But it still lived up to the standards that Fairy Tail has always gone with.
Wow I can't believe a show with so much sex appeal and fan service could actually have a decent story and great action scenes.
I think this film had a bit of a "slow burn" to it. You could feel the tension and the sadness building in Takaki as the story progressed. All the way up until the ending where he finally sets himself free from wishing about "what could've been." It feels almost painfully slow at times because that's what it felt like to Takaki.
The animation, art, and music was phenomenal; as we come to expect from Shinkai. It was a worthwhile film to watch, and while it doesn't leave me in awe of it's power, it still shared its emotion with me.
It was a really good movie, it was filled all the usual timey-wimey shenanigans that you have come to expect of Haruhi Suzumiya. The metaphors and concept behind the movie is truly admirable and I've never wanted to appreciate the "weird" in my life so much. This was a much better feeling to leave off on than the Endless Eight (which I still think was well imagined, just poorly executed). The character development throughout the entire piece is truly central to enjoyment of this movie, you need to understand the tiniest changes in Kyon's behavior and thinking as he comes to terms with how much he loves his life (and Haruhi) as well as Nagato evolving from a humanoid interface to more something a little more human with emotion. It's still not the most moving film I've ever watched, and it certainly required an awful lot of backstory from the series to understand, but if you enjoyed the series even the tiniest bit, you'll be happy with your decision to watch this too.
Honestly, this movie was pretty good. The story and visuals were engaging and there was plenty of action to keep things going. My biggest complaint is really just the ending. There was so much left unexplained and didn't quite make sense. If I were the producer of this, I would've looked at the script and said: "This needs to be a series, not a movie." That way there would be more sufficient character development and truly satisfying ending.
Wow, the level of "darkness" that the Season 1 of Made in Abyss wasn't even enough to prepare me for this ride. This is truly one of the darkest Anime I've seen (without delving into the ones that exists purely for meaningless blood and gore). It ranks close to that of the Fate/Stay Night Heaven's Feel arc.
The visuals were striking and the music suitable. The concepts and ideas that drive this series is truly the most interesting of all. The Made in Abyss Anime truly understands what it it means to feel humanity and then strives to strip it away bit by bit until the viewer is revolted by the very willingness of humans to continue pushing forward. The movie had a few flaws here and there, one of my biggest distastes was the complete willingness to murder half a dozen of the Umbra Hands, including Bondrewd (the supposed father of their friend). There was incredibly little hesitation and emotion before and after their homicidal actions. Killing a bad guy might make it easier, but in no way is it something they should be emotionally okay with doing without some serious emotional turmoil. (The manga/LN might've handled it better than the movie, I haven't read any of it.) And just the general handling of the main characters internal thought, emotions, and conflicts could've been handled a little cleaner.
The movie was not quite as powerful as the first season (perhaps the first season took the edge of the series a bit for me), but still came with horrific and enticing plot lines that kept me thoroughly invested.
A pretty chill, low-stress RPG anime. The graphics were nice and there were plenty of "cute anime girls doing cute things" to keep you entertained while there weren't any big battles. I personally found the second half of S1 to be a lot more fast paced with all the battling and events but "to each their own" with this one. And how maple manages to do so much damage without any MP or AD, that's totally beyond me, something something game design, I guess
I'd argue that this show has actually aged quite well. It has the world building and narrative power to hold its own against the other phenomenal series that are out there. However, the simple fact is I could tell where the series diverged from the Manga simply because it felt different and in a way that was not nearly as perfect as the start of the series.
In addition, the graphics are a little choppy and they do show their age, especially when compared to something like Demon Slayer that turns the visuals of an Anime into a beautiful art form. Don't get me wrong, for the time period the animation is quite good, I'm just spoiled by having seen the magical works of art that come from decades more experience.
For primarily these reasons, I think I'm going to move onto Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood in the hopes that it takes such an incredible work of narrative art and makes it better to withstand the passing of time. I don't regret watching this series first, but I just know that Brotherhood can be everything this show was and more.
This side-series certainly has its merits. While not quite as good as the original Steins;Gate, there were still moments in this series where it had me giggling hysterically, Hououin Kyouma style.
I watched this after fully completing the original Steins;Gate + movie, and I think it was the right call. After all the high-octane action of the episodes leading towards the original Steins;Gate conclusion, I think this series would have slowed down to fast and there would have been a greater chance I wouldn't complete the original series which would have been criminal.
Crazy to think that after completing this series, you are in fact traveling back through time to make possible the way that the original series ended. It's just absolutely the coolest way to make a side-series.
Very similar to the Anime series (which is quite good), the animation and soundtrack is great quality. The story was sweet. Not the best Anime movie I've ever seen, but if you enjoyed the series, you'll likely enjoy this as well.
I enjoyed this series a good deal but it was much too short. The premise was interesting despite a bit of a slow feeling start. It just took awhile for the characters to properly explain the mechanics of the world they were in.
The animations and music were well done, not jaw-dropping but good. The story itself had some good points and I didn’t expect the final twist in the last episode. However, the story still felt rushed and I think I would probably enjoy the story better if I read through Key’s visual novel of this story. If I had to guess, the story is probably more fleshed out and better paced.
Might be a hot take: but I think the show did pretty good work on the source material. I’m sure there are some differences and the timeline is likely askew. If anything, my largest complaint with the show is simply that it’s put in a show form. The first couple episodes were quite boring as they tried to set everything up, but after it got going, and I started to see the connections as each storyline got under way, the show did an excellent job weaving a complex narrative. The cutoffs for each episode were rather off at times, which unfortunately made it difficult to watch on a weekly basis as it felt designed more like it should have been a trilogy of lengthy ~3hr movies instead of a bunch of hour long episodes.
But all in all, I was contented by the series. The graphics were gorgeous of course given the shows massive budget.
For all the cliché filled plot, this was still a pretty entertaining movie. Ryan reynolds and walker scobell played off each other perfectly for a crazy comedic duo. And there were a handful of funny references and futuristic action scenes to keep things interesting.
Season 1 was a phenomenal hook into the series, and while there were some really good moments in season 2, there was also a lot of really slow paced filler / plot development episodes where nothing really happened until the very last minute of the episode to act as a cliffhanger into the next episode where the process repeats.
The animation and music were about average for an Anime of the genre, but the Ending theme was phenomenal so that was a definite plus. This show definitely could've been something really special with gorgeous animation and scenic views, action scenes that build character development and plot at the same time, and more. But instead what we got was a decent Anime that was still worth the watch.
Recommended, but not the Anime of the century, let alone the decade.
