I am really enjoying The Orville . Tonight’s story was both timely and timeless with a good sprinkling of laugh out loud moments. Also, Liam Nesson’s completely random and unexpected cameo was a treat.
How a gory, cliche filled, fascist dream can be so entertaining is beyond me, but entertaining it is...
This sci-fi romp is HIGHLY underrated. Highly entertaining and actually thought-provoking in its own way, Starship Troopers delivers a couple of hours of entertainment you'll not soon forget.
The script is loosely based on a book by renowned, sometimes controversial, sci-fi author Robert A. Heinlein, but deviates a lot from the book. If you have read it, you might be disappointed, but I doubt it...
Recommended to anyone with even the slightest interest in sci-fi.
In comparison with the earlier years The Simpsons became model citizens. In the lastest seasons i miss that spark like when Homer finds his lost brother and designs a ridiculous that ends his brothers career. Or where homer quits his job to take a dream-job at a bowling alley but has to take back his old job when Maggie is born.
Was that a happy ending??! I can't believe it! THAT WAS A HAPPY ENDING!!! Very nostalgic and entertaining...
Sadly this is the last episode of this phenomenal production. I will miss it a lot but at the same time I am happy for what they have done to the story in closing a gap that has been there for decades.
Star Trek Continues
Always.
This is not star trek. It's a soap opera that follows around Michael while many of the crew, helmswoman etc barely say a peep. Too much sex, no exploration. Gene Roddenberry would be rolling in his grave at that sight of this. I'm truly saddened by this is where Star trek ended up.. No moral of the story, just a developing timeline. I miss when each episode was by itself and also contributed... Now.. I don't know what this is. A travesty perhaps.
This was one crazy episode but in a good way. A lot of changes are coming as this feels completely different than the first half of the season. The best part of this episodes was definitely Captain Killy!
I will try to keep this pretty vague with minimal spoilers if any. NO PLOT-RELATED SPOILERS.
This was not a bad episode or a bad performance on behalf of Jodie Whittaker for the premiere of the new doctor. However, the pacing was especially slow, even for a premiere/pilot. There were times when scenes were placed awkwardly apart from each other, and when they continued on with some of the parts I found myself remembering, oh yeah, that happened in this episode (but it literally felt like it was hours ago) This was a longer episode than usual though, but it felt like it could have been done in 45-50 minutes without cutting anything important.
Several times throughout the episode I felt like I was watching a movie with all the plot development parts cut out and only the character parts left in. It seemed like not much was happening in the moment but then in hindsight it was like a lot less time had passed than what had actually happened, but it felt like hours had gone by.
There was not a lot of humour or charm either apart from the initial character introductions. I'm still not sure how I feel about the new doctor, but it's only been 1 episode, so hopefully the new characters will grow and improve in future episodes. There were parts of the episode that felt like the writers thought the audience would care more about certain characters at least more than I cared about them this early on.
The episode was not as good as I had hoped for, but not as bad as I had feared it could have been. But it was still a slow start with some serious pacing issues, even for a premiere/pilot.
Overall I would probably give this episode a 6.5/10.
The sophomore season of The Orville has aged well. The cast feels comfortable to a point where it has a strong Cheers vibes to it -- the Orville is a spaceship where everybody knows your name.
One of the major misconceptions of the first season was that The Orville is a comedy, owing much to its creator, Seth MacFarlane. While the show is occasionally very funny, it is sci-fi above and all. It has stronger Star Trek vibe than Star Trek: Discovery that is airing on the same night.
Seth MacFarlane continues to demonstrate his deep respect for science, and his surprising humanist side. Many episodes are thoughtful, respectfully presenting both sides of the coin without being preachy.
While the series lacks cinematic depth of Star Trek: Discovery, it looks and feels just as expensive. And I think the decision is entirely intentional. Just tune in, sit back, and enjoy the stress free hour of great sci-fi.
The show gets deeper and deeper with each episode.
Asking questions I never thought possible.
I had high hopes for this season... key operating word being, "had". I was hoping this season would be better but it's somehow gotten even worse than last season. I truly feel sorry for Jodie Whittaker, it really feels like the writers are setting her up to fail.
Craptastic storytelling/ supporting actors (The New Master) has made an avid Who fan not want to watch the show anymore. And the ignorant are going to say "because they made The Doctor a woman!" When it lies solely on the writers, directors, and producers not Jodie in the slightest.
3rd most likeable version of The Doctor (imo) yet the last 2 seasons are the most disliked seasons I've ever watched and I've watched every episode of the New Who at least 4x, these last two seasons are single watch only if that...
"Directed by Jonathan Frakes". Guest stars aren't always in front of the camera :)
Also, Charlize Theron <3
Up next, Natalie Portman? Besides the episode itself, guest stars are becoming something to look forward in "The Orville".
This show has turned up to be quite a pleasant surprise, it's undeniably very "Star Trek" at heart. It feels odd to admit that, as a Star Trek fan, I'm actually enjoying this more than "Star Trek: Discovery".
It‘s good sci-fi. It‘s not Star Trek. Almost funny how Seth McFarlane‘s Orville is at its core closer to the values and themes of the original Star Trek than Discovery.
