Star Trek: Picard: 3x08 Surrender

It's all about reunion, nothing else.
Embedded in a predictable, simple-minded and obscure framework they call 'story'.

Always liked Laris and hoped to see her more, so they did at least something right.

I don't exaggerate when I consider Michael emotionally instable. It's no surprise that she acted irrational this time, considering the circumstances, so I absolutely don't get why her superiors would give her the opportunity to cause severe damages. Again.

Not to mention that pinning her mom made no sense anyway. They couldn't keep her permanently anyway and she shared the information she was willed to share. So what exactly could the Starfleet gain by ignoring her request to let her leave? Correct, absolutely nothing.

This season's plot is just bad. Really bad.

Generic build up in the first half, lacklustre escalation afterwards.

And the villains are just clowns, you couldn't possibly take them serious. Resulting in a movie that you can't take serious.

The only positive aspect is the ship. But that's enough.

Doctor Who: 3x10 Blink

Doctor Who doesn't get any better than this episode. Forget the Daleks and anything else that you might consider 'scary', this is the real stuff. And such a clever writing. Incredible. Episodes as this, are what defines Doctor Who's cult status.

  • Invite everyone to Kilgrave's cell
  • Leave others alone with Kilgrave, even the untrustworthy.
  • Send his parents in his cell
  • Don't check anyone for weapons nor if the shock mechanism is intact
  • Trish takes the 10% chance of stopping Kilgrave, with the 100% risk to set him free

I simply don't like stories that are primarily exciting because everyone seems to go crazy. This episode was terrible.

Vikings: Season 6

People complained so much about the final season of GoT.
In my humble opinion the final season of Vikings is the actual disaster.
I have no idea why I endured it till the very end, I knew that I wouldn't get rewarded.

The Burial

Likeable characters, good acting.

But oh my, the US justice system is a complete joke. Pretty much nothing that they debated at court was about the actual case aka deal/handshake.

The movie just keeps digging out unrelated cases of racism on both sides and the end result is an absurd amount of money, that has nothing to do with the damages caused to the plaintiff.

For All Mankind: 2x03 Rules of Engagement

I remember how I was judging Karen Baldwin early in season 1. And see where she is now, reasonable and empathetic.
And Tracy experienced exactly the opposite development.

Star Trek: Picard: 2x06 Two of One

Some classic wise sentences, the rest is a waste of time.

Zack Snyder's Justice League

Yes, there are some (few) relevant changes. But none of them makes this an essentially better movie. Far too many flaws and issues remain.

And most of all, it still doesn't provide much joy or entertainment, especially considering its extreme length now.
The final 15-20 minutes even managed to make this a worse experience. The value of all these tiny bits of previews and introductions didn't surpass generic trailers.

WandaVision: 1x07 Breaking the Fourth Wall

With this episode Wandavision finally has the same issue as the Mandalorian.
The exciting element isn't a developing plot, it's about (well known) characters making their appearance.
The main difference is that Wandavision required almost a full season for the introduction of two new characters with super powers. Besides this, not too much really happened since episode 1.

The Mandalorian: 2x06 Chapter 14: The Tragedy

Very short episode, with barely any events. This series generally seems to be more about iconic characters being included, played by fan favorite actors and actresses.
It's not bad, but it could be a lot more than this "meme generator".

The Expanse: Season 4

Another great season, but with mixed feelings about several character.
Drummer gets better and better, probably my favorite character by now.
Avasarala isn't flawless, which makes her even better. Stellar acting too.
Amos is becoming more and more likable, without making him a sweetheart.Good job!
Bobbie got plenty of screen time and an interesting story arc. But I hope she reunites with the rest soon.

Nagata and Holden bug me with their lasting individual irrational tendencies though. The greatest disappointment though is that there is absolutely no development or story arc for Alex Kamal. He is always there to make some helpful comments, but he pretty much doesn't exist beyond that.

Danny Rand meets Misty Knight. The pinnacle of dumb and annoying.

My Sassy Girl

The final minutes managed to appease me, for the most parts of the movie I'd have given a rating of 5 or even 4/10. It's just too often too absurd, wasting time without providing much or anything.

Star Trek: Discovery: 3x07 Unification III

The T'Kal-in-ket event in this episode sums up the series perfectly.

It's initiated to convince with science and reason.
And ends up being all about drama and emotions.
And about Michael Burnham, of course.

Star Trek: Discovery: 2x06 The Sound of Thunder

I'm not really fond of this episode. The history and relation between Kelpians and Ba’ul was very predictable. I had imagined that the Ba'ul could also be the Kelpians after their transformation, as the only alternative.

The Starfleet on the other hand acted pretty much nothing like they were supposed to. How they ignored the Prime Directive for some lame excuse was actually one of the lesser sins and is almost Star Trek standard.
But to transform a complete race without their knowledge or consent, ignoring the risks that those might face from the Ba'ul, with either a genocide or war as the result? Absurd.

Star Trek: Discovery: 2x12 Through the Valley of Shadows

I never would have considered this possible but I actually wouldn't mind if a Star Trek series gets canceled.
There is barely any logic in STD season 2, either in minor or huge events.

Star Trek: Discovery: 3x11 Su'Kal

So this time it was Saru and Stamets, needing reminders about what the logical next step and not to mention their duty is, while becoming too emotional. Very innovativ, these writers. They simply can't stop repeating the very same boring pattern in every single episode, so at least it wasn't Michael again!

And as usual the crew is a sad joke. Besides getting their shields up again, they did exactly nothing to prepare for their combat?
But hey, even while they spent so much time to radio "Hello?" again and again, instead of sealing the ship's commandos they just decide to wait. And then wait some more. Only after the bridge is taken, it's time for a futile attempt!

Sorry, this most incompetent crew ever is supposed to have saved the galaxy multiple times? :joy:

Star Trek: Picard: 1x05 Stardust City Rag

I begin to wonder if @startrekcbs has lost all knowledge about scripts and pacing.

Where Discovery breathlessly rushed through plots for complete seasons within few episodes, Picard just keeps stumbling forward providing little of value.
In this episode we learned minimally about the background of Agnes, Seven of Nine and Raffi. While the men Picard, Elnor and Rios behaved like clowns, providing exactly nothing.
The greater story arc? Nothing new, Maddox came and left. The crew is simply forwarded to their next destination. The end.

Star Trek: Discovery: 2x13 Such Sweet Sorrow (1)

Well, @balazs955 inspired me to leave a comment that this episode is just another disappointment. >70% of this episode was full of pathos and preceding weeping, terribly written and acted as (almost) always when STD gets emotional. What makes this even more absurd is that half of the weeping was pointless, as most of the crew decides to join the mission at the end.

Star Trek: Discovery: 3x10 Terra Firma (2)

Better than the first part, but there really is no other plot or progress in the series, but emotional breakdowns.
Earth: Abandoned all their values because of emotions.
The Vulkans in their T'Kal-in-ket: Emotions over facts
And now they also broke "The Imperator" from the mirror universe, the anti-emotional bulwark.

I can't wait for them to bend scientific laws next, with their emotions.

Star Trek: Picard: 2x05 Fly Me to the Moon

Agnes is once again leading the most irrational character ranking, in this season. Raffi and Rios really must try harder.
Agnes also beats Raffi in the most unlikable character competition, though that is a tighter race.

Can't say much more about the rest of this episode, as they just keep shifting parts of the puzzle around without the plot getting any deeper or inspirational.

Marvel's Jessica Jones: 1x11 AKA I've Got the Blues

I rather enjoyed the show, till the last 3 episodes, which all have been cluster**** of crazy people making crazy decisions.
The only good left in this episode is the chemistry between Trish and Jessica and the flashbacks. Pretty much everything else belongs in the bin of terrible writing.
