I can power through some awful sub 5min shows no problem but this one does not seem to be concerned to explain what it's whacky story concept was about and instead focuses on unfunny comedy normalizing zoophilia he gets turned on by a wiggly tail (target audience is probably in the furry realm..).
Taking on the subject matter of a local amok run but focusing primarly on the tragedy left behind is probably what holds the show back in the four episode setup. Some of the affected people develop a bit odd and we end with open questions and a general lack of knowledge of the perpetrator and his motifs (which is I guess partially intentional).
Being helmed by Sean Durkin (Martha Marcy May Marlene) and Tony Grisoni (Red Riding Trilogy) I expected it to be more consistent because it starts out quite good.
Wow... didn't expect this to be so bad. There are some beautiful backgrounds to look at here but that's about the praise this gets from me. Feels like Groening can't really progress as a writer. If maybe the leads had any chemistry then it would have been easier to get into it but as it stands I didn't even chuckle once and the jokes moreso were cringey given that fantasy setting this is supposed to takes place in.
I have never seen the old "Twilight Zone" but heard a lot about it so my expectations of a "modern" adaptation were quite high... and apparently way off. None of the episodes had a particularly interesting gimmick or explored that in any meaningful way. Instead the episodes end up being quite boring, sometimes goofy and just not very good... this also partly because in 2019 you have to include an important message in each episode, regardless of cost.
I was ready for a SyFy tier story and thus skipping it. Some decent ratings and early reviews led me to believe it might be just mediocre instead of bad.
It's a messy story with bad acting and dialogue to say the least - add to that being boring too. They also decided to go with the biggest BS they got to get people to ?vote? for more episodes of it. What you are going to get at the end of these too long episodes is not going to make you satisfied. "The most important project for mankind" (hahaha) is a waste of time.
Hibana is going to be the first "Netflix Original" (best-seller adaptation) produced in Japan and I'm curious to see how popular it's going to be. The first three episodes I've seen so far didn't really strike me as something that would appeal to the same market as the US productions though. They aren't bad by any means and have the same film-like approach like many modern shows but "foreign" movies aren't something people flock to in hordes. I'm looking forward to watch the rest anyways and that every director has two episodes spanning a time period of the main characters sounds cool too.
I watched up to episode 3 with the fitting name "Wasting Time" - Seriously, all those titles would reflect my opinion if I'd keep on watching :).
The show is just far too generic and doesn't excel at anything. It's saving grace is that most shows had their season finale when this one started. There are better ways to waste your time imho :)!
I feel like Archive 81 is a show the Netflix content algorithm would spew out. It's seemingly a collage of various interests and styles without really having something holding it together (we got podcasts, a guy alone in the woods inside a modernist house, the mysterious groundkeeper, big corporation coverups, secret research labs, two churches on the same grounds, secret cults, ominous sounds and voices, demons, medieval witchcraft, possessions, religion, alternate dimensions, reality bending and betcha the true crime sells). As to be expected the pace is quite slow thanks to the very gimmicky "found footage" tie in and not made more interesting by dull performances - the show really becomes way too meta in the video watching segments. I'll probably just read the spoilers rather than finishing it...
Dropped at three episodes. It's not the worst show you can pick but it hardly feels original... it's like a mashup of anime which were popular in the US in the 2000s coupled with some other stuff he did. Go back and watch those instead as they have a lot more character.
This show had a compromised production and was supposed to air quite some time ago... and while it doesn't look like anything is wrong with, there are noticeable gaps given it's shortened runtime. I'm not sure if I would have enjoyed this more if it was released as planned but as it stands there is a lot of focus on yuri and dragon tails which I frankly don't really care about.
Yeah this is terrible. Nauseating concept (which makes hardly any sense nor is consistent), unfunny humor, lame ecchi and certainly the worst main duo I've seen in a long time... and somehow this gets 2 cours?!
You know, I thought I'd give this a shot given it's "horror" roots and provided that it is already canceled (and possibly cannot go too superheroish) but I cannot get into a story when I have to scratch my head every few minutes; this plays out too illogical. Be it terrible scene flow or the fact that no one reacts or handles this setting in a believable way. Dropped.

What fanservice elements make up in female centered idol shows is here replaced by "we have jobs and hobbies because dudes". It's all a bit mundane for my tastes so I'll leave it at three episodes ;)... not that I should have started this show in the first place.
For the love of Johj! No way in hell can I watch this like that. One of the only good things about Terra Formars is it's gore which is blatantly censored in every scene. It isn't just a tiny bit: 2/3 of the screen is just black because of that! Since it all boils down to fighting cockroaches with animal powers this will be an issue throughout the show. With the current pace which leaves out pretty much everything even more so.
I might check back for the BDs but it seems like a doomed adaptation anyways.
Despite the season preview at the end of the pilot previewing some intriguing "witchy" scenes ahead I think I'm going to pass. Wasn't certain beforehand how YA oriented this will be but from what I've seen that is certainly the target audience (if I had known it would air on Freeform I wouldn't have bothered - just thought that this being at SXSW would mean something different..).
Lots of stuff gets skipped over or is handled superficially which is weird for a show declaring sisterhood/their squad to be something crucial.
Shockingly low effort adaptation... The manga panels are serving 1:1 as the screenplay with little animation on screen and lots of poorly drawn models and details. Might as well not have adapted this.
I have never really watched Star Trek (except the odd episode of DS9 and Voyager) but having watched every RLM episode about it I can only feel sorry for the die hard fans...

The promo art is quite deceptive as this is not at all a traditional looking anime... even more so it's an atrocious mess. While I'm not at all opposed to 3DCG shows this one is in no way up to today's standards. The models look bad and so is the rigging, backgrounds are ugly and low res, the frame rate is choppy and it doesn't even take advantage of stuff 3D would bring (like delivering great action choreography). Putting 2D characters next to 3D ones should be forbidden by law.
Whoever picks those Crunchyroll exclusives has some really fat fingers apparently but not that I'm surprised considering their first funded project wasn't even an anime to begin with.
I'm rating this after only watching the first episode. It's 2019 and I'm not ready for a Gonzo shitshow:
No thank you Netflix. If you know how long the source material is why don't you actually bother doing a proper adaptation... Not interested in continuing this.
I fear this has nothing to offer besides KVs by Yoshitoshi ABe..? The pre-release seems to be a good dump to get impatient people on it (seeing as CR also has production credits).

A Monster Life-Action adaptation on HBO? This could be good! I know that the anime isn't that popular but the manga is great. It can only be better than the three 20th Century Boys Life-Action films.
