1.50 meter woman beats an army of men. This is where lesbian feminizm comes.
I'm not saying a woman cannot be an action hero. I am a huge fan of women action heroes like Ellen Ripley, Sarah Connor, The Bride. The actresses of those movies were believable. This movie doesn't have that kind of talent.

@borayeris She's been training since she's a little girl (as we can see the flashbacks), and doesn't defeat them in strength but in agility (thus smaller is better actually) and not just in a few hits but is struggling and only takes a on few at a time.
& She is a princess => well nourished and much better weapons & fighting men that probably live on bread alone. Those details should help with the "believable" issue lol.
+ who cares lol, a lot of movies are not believable but yet fun to watch.
One of his best recent movies. I loved how they switched roles in the movie with Sandler being the average american vs Rock who is the doctor. I probably laughed through this whole movie every scene there was something funny said or done. A definite refresher hope to get a number 2 with even funnier scenes.

Did we watch the same movie?
I went to a preview screening for this movie.
For the positives:
- there are some really good scores in this movie
- the title card flashes up in japanese which is a nice tribute
- the practical effects look amazing
- the casting is really good - at times the mother looks like she's on the verge of a mental breakdown
- some of the dialogue is really touching and heartbreaking
- strongly developed small-town cop feels
- some of the characters have really good backstories
- grief is a strong theme in this movieBut the negative...oh goodness. The idea of the curse...basically a police officer takes the curse back with her from Japan and it infects her house. Despite this being a movie with several main character police officers, there is no investigation. They do not actually investigate the curse at all, because a previous character did all of it before. You dont get to see any of the discovery, you dont even get to see anything in Japan.
This movie is not scary. You don't see any chasing or stalking, you don't see any deaths until the end of the movie. It is all jump scare/fade to black. The CGI does not look good. The cadavers spewing flies look very fake. The blood splatter scene where the mother stabs herself in the neck looks very fake. The blood particularly looks almost pixelated on the stained glass window. I just can't understand that there are no real chase /stalking or fighting the bad monster scenes. It feels like a tribute to The Grudge in that they couldn't show the monster because they couldn't afford it in the budget. The Grudge aspect in this film is more like vengeful spirit possession, less tied to the idea of a monster personifying a grudge brought on my death.
The tonal shifts are really confusing as is the direction the movie goes in. It feels like the director wanted to make a well-shot western film or something like There Will Be Blood, but only got a horror movie instead. Some character and story elements are really underused. The main character has a son but he's in like 10% of the movie. They have a dog but it isn't even in more than 3 scenes?
Overall I'm just really disappointed since I thought it started pretty strong.

@catsy Sorry, but the most of your "positive" comments about the film are drawn to the hair... there are not really good scores, not really amazing looking effects, not really good casting and not really dialogues that affect me and certainly not break my heart !!!
i am agree with your negative comments yes the movie is NOT SCARY.... not really any creepy scenes until the end. I would have been very annoyed to spend money on this film in the cinema... no offense, long live the streaming services:wink: bye
I haven't seen this yet. But can I say, just please stop remaking good Japanese horror movies? Why do Americans think that they can remake a classic japanese horror movie and actually make it better? NO. This has never happened. Even the movie poster sucks. geez

@mg_grey yes i am agree with you that the movie poster sucks because it reflects the lack of ideas in comparison with the whole poor movie! the poster only depict a scene of the first The Grudge of 2004, more specifically the shower scene with Sarah Michelle Gellar washing her head.
I have never been swept up by a movie before. While learning how they lived and Jack's perception of the world, I was enthralled. I was scared during get both the build up to, and the actual escape. The tears started flowing when Jack first saw the world and there was very little time after that where I wasn't crying.
I fell in love with both the characters and the portrayal of their story. Score: 9.5/10. Loses half a star for not showing more of the amazing female police officer who helped him when found.

@jodavies ... yes very emotional movie which reminded me a bit of 3096 Days of Natascha Kampus who was kidnapped as a little schoolgirl and grown up over 8 years in a room without a window and one day had had the opportunity to run through the garden into freedom... but this Jack never ever saw the open world before... great movie.
Forgettable is the right word alright. This movie is filled with cliches, not one original funny joke and the story is (as could be expected) very predictable. I thought I could have some laughs from this, but I was proven very wrong. Not recommended at all!

@kubricksmuse ... Maisie did an amazing job really for me enigma how to work with little children and big feelings
Personally I don't quite understand the bad reviews this movie has. Yes, it's a very long movie, which they probably could shorten a lot to tell the same story, but still it's a good one. The scenery was great, the acting and music was good (imo) and I thought it was a good story too. Kept me seated the whole 2,5 hours.
