Conversation-focused episodes are always in my top favorites!
“We haven’t even had a chance to talk this over” - Marco was one of the main reasons behind Jean’s character development, this whole conversation really hits hard!
“That’s enough… So you’re saying the guilt messed with your brain, right?” - I had the same thought while watching that episode of Marco dying. I remember being so angry at Reiner and his schizophrenic moment and wanting him dead… We have come a long way since then :pensive:
And now we buckle up for what's coming...
Well that was extremely sad :pensive::cry:
I understand the scouts’ frustration with Eren forcing them into this battle, however Marley was bound to wage war on Paradis regardless of what they did! At least, they got the War Hammer titan now. And Zeke! (All the hints were there!!)
That was brutal! I didn’t expect the conversation between Eren and Mikasa/Armin to take this turn. Eren did not hold his punches, and then to have Mikasa automatically hold down Armin when he lunged towards Eren was extremely heartbreaking.
Levi’s arc is also tragic, the guy is a badass, there is no doubt about that, but his previous breakdown and then being forced to kill all his comrades was cruel.
Floch is such an irritating character, I want to punch his face whenever he is on screen!
“You know… I wished I could stay cooped up in my room, ears shut… but… if I did that… those burned bones would never forgive me…” :broken_heart:
Can someone die out of sheer excitement?!?! What an episode!!
A perfect episode!!
I have hated Clay with all my heart and I have waited so long to see him die, but damn it, I got teary eyed during that scene! Everything was perfectly done. Ron Perlman is such a great actor.
It is funny how it didn't occur to me in the previous episode that the dead body would be Engin! Anyway, my theory is that Ceylin fired the gun once but didn’t actually hit him, and then someone hit her on the head and fired the next shot killing Engin. But who was it?
Ceylin has no clear recollection of the events that happened and I am sure that the last scene of her remembering that she fired the killing shot is just a result of her hearing all the evidence against her and her mind playing tricks on her. Pınar Deniz did a phenomenal job in this episode!
That female judge was so weird with her way of talking and her comment about how she gets goosebumps when hearing of a murder?! :unamused:
What an episode! Three epic heartbreaking scenes:
The coffee scenes with Sandy previously and now with Kath are lovely, the way he chokes mid-sentence while talking about Lisa gets me everytime  Also the bench scene in this episode is one of my favourites!
The Erguvan family scenes were absolutely phenomenal. From Gül’s reaction to Zafer’s death, to Ceylin thinking her mother was dead, everyone’s acting was on point. I also loved the way the camera panned out during that first scene after Ceylin breaks down the news of her father’s death.
Metin is drowning more and more with each action. I was surprised by his plan because I had totally forgotten about Yafuz. Although back in episode 8 I had commented that “Metin finding out about his previous boss’s kidnapping as the hands of Zafer is interesting… This might come in handy” and it actually did! Now I am not sure how I feel about all this. On one hand, sometimes I empathize with Metin and him wanting to save his family and how hard it is for him to go against his principles, that scene when he breaks down in the bathroom was very realistic. But on the other hand, although I understand his motives, nothing is right about this plan. From the start, I thought he made a mistake with covering up the crime, but now planting and stealing evidence seems like going too far, but then again he already went down this road so might as well do things “properly”. Although this is soon gonna bite him in the ass with Eren picking up on the small details. I can’t imagine what will happen once everything is out in the open!
Pars taking Eren shopping and Eren wanting to look his best for his daughter was so endearing!
Apart from Ceylin, the family is operating solely on emotions and it is somewhat understandable for them to behave as they did when they think the killer has been released because of his family’s name. Zafer is being pushed by Yekta and the mother to seek revenge and seeing that he already kidnapped someone who tarnished his name in the past, it is not surprising he would resort to killing the person he suspects of murdering his daughter. In a perfect scenario, he would take a step back and think about Ceylin and trust that she has a valid reason for not suspecting Çınar but again the family is presented as a very problematic one. They lack communication, they are all living together but it is like everyone is waiting for the other to mess up, each word is misinterpreted and each problem is exaggerated.
Yekta continues his toxic behavior with his son who clearly is in need of serious therapy. Engin, while being the one who committed the murder, does actually care about Ceylin and her family, his urges and mental issues got the best of him but he didn’t actually mean to cause them any grief (not that his issues justify the murder!). On the other hand, Yekta has no empathy towards anyone, he laughs when Engin informs him about Ceylin’s state, hoping this would help their case, and he also pushes Zafer to the edge fully knowing he is a loose cannon.
The mother is quite shaken by everything and I feel she might be the one to either slip up and accidentally reveal what happened or she would be the one to help Ceylin and testify against them in the end.
On the murder cover up front, Yekta has his eyes now set on a new person to frame for the murder and even went as far as setting up a new crime scene. I wonder to whom they will claim this house belong? The only person that comes to mind is Osman. After Zümrüt denied being with him that night, his alibi fell apart. So they might point the finger at him, or it could be someone new?
I love how the relationship between Metin and Çınar is slowly getting better however this also makes me nervous because what if they are setting up Çınar’s death? Zafer is pretty determined and I don’t see him backing down so maybe he will end up actually killing Çınar? Honestly, that was a pretty stupid move from Çınar to go after Serdar especially since he did not fully recover yet so he doesn’t have the strength to fight back!!
And now to that twist at the end which I did not see coming!! I kept thinking that Ilgaz would never lie so why was Ceylin so relaxed when walking to Pars’ office? I couldn’t think of a way out so I definitely did not expect them to get married!! That was quick and clever thinking because while Pars now is 100% sure that they are guilty, he has no way of proving it!
One final note, it is such a pleasure to watch Mehmet Yılmaz Ak. His delivery and mannerisms are perfect!
This was such a heartbreaking episode...
"Later on, if I visit you when I am doing better and if you are still single then please give me a chance."
“Are we all thinking the same thing now? He’s fuming mad, but that only makes him even more attractive”
“On my way back home, I couldn’t even breathe. I was worried I might have put her in trouble. If something happens to her, I’ll be living in hell until the day I die”
“Oh, it’s you.” - “Who were you expecting?”
“Even when you didn’t know it, you saved my life.”
- “You can date men and hang out with other people as if nothing had happened. But don’t be lonely again. Don’t ever think about disappearing at a scenic place. You have me.”
- “You won’t be by my side”
- “I won’t be by your side, but I will always hope that you won’t be lonely. Be happy until the end of your life. I would be grateful if you’d do that.”
“How could I forget about a woman who fell from the sky?”
Wow so not only did we get Olivia Colman in the first season as Nick's mom but now Thibault de Montalembert is his dad!!
Mehmet Yılmaz Ak broke my heart in his portrayal of Pars’ grief. What an incredible performance, I was crying the entire episode!
Ceylin is still the same old Ceylin. I really thought it was gonna take more than 1 episode for her to get on my nerves, but apparently not. Although I really appreciated her in the scene in Pars’ office. For a second there, I though she was coming back to fight him, but she proved me wrong, and it really speaks to the layers of her character as she is probably the best person to understands his situation.
Some other tidbits:
Brilliant episode! I did not expect to see Sal in this show :joy: I totally lost it when at some point Nadja becomes the interviewer
WTF was that ending?!?!
Ok so let’s recap:
I was putting off reading the manga until this season was over (which was initially after this episode) mainly because I wanted to be surprised by the anime. But now that we are getting a part 2 and the fact that it will be in 2022, that is such a long wait so I guess I will be starting the manga and hopefully can make myself stop before reaching the end (and avoid spoilers) just to leave some suspense for the anime.
FUCK YOU GEMMA!! FUCK YOU JUICE!! FUCK YOU UNSER!!
Update: Now that I had time to get over the initial shock and anger, a few notes on the episode:
