Ocean's Eleven

This remake of Ocean's Eleven is the best heist film I have ever seen! Not only does it have a super cast and great acting, it also has an excellent plot as well. This film had smarts, great comedy, and serious attitude that mixed well. The cast all had great chemistry together especially Clooney and Pitt who seemed like they had a fun time working with each other. Ocean's Eleven is an instant classic that I'll never get tired of watching over and over again.

Unstoppable

Is it possible for Denzel Washington to be in a horrible movie? The man can act. Unstoppable is an excellent thriller. The plot in this film was amazing. The film - no matter how many times I watch it - every time during scenes involving saving attempts to stop the train grabs me in tightly and gets my heart pumping. From start to finish this film is a thrill ride. I enjoyed every minute of it.

Inside Man

Inside Man is an excellent witty heist film. The plot was brilliantly written and Washington and Owen's acting were both exceptional; in fact all the cast in this film were all phenomenal. Just after Clooney's Ocean's Eleven, Inside Man comes second as an all time favorite heist film on my list. This was a solid entertaining film from start to finish.

The Avengers

(This review was written when this film was first released.)

Honestly I couldn't ask for a better Avengers film! Everyone in the cast fit together nicely with each other and Mark Ruffalo did a great job as the new Hulk replacement. The action was top-notch and the story line mixed in with some comedy parts was perfect for the film. I saw this film in 3D at the midnight release in America and heard from some of the people overseas that the 3D wasn't that great, but I would have to disagree. I thought the 3D conversion was done very well compared to other films I've seen in 3D. The Avengers is by far my favorite superhero film off all time, in fact I'll even go as far as my personal favorite movie period. My only problem with this film is that Marvel now has set the bar pretty high and I hope future Marvel films don't suffer from it. As fresh as this film is I really can't comment on some of the good stuff without spoiling the film, but this film definitely lives up to the hype; it is a must see!

Chronicle

Chronicle took me off guard and blew me away. It is the best "found footage" movie in my opinion, more enjoyable then Cloverfield was. It is a little slow to pick up, but once you get to the point when they get their abilities it picks up. It was funny, dark, and thrilling. Some of the scenes when they are using their abilities are a lot better than most superhero films I have seen. All around it was a fun movie that I loved a lot. I highly recommend this film! Go see it!

Star Trek

I'm not a "Trekkie"; I was never a huge fan of the original television series or films but I must say I thought J.J. Abrams take on Star Trek was excellent. Star Trek had some great action and amazing special effects scenes and an awesome plot wrapped around it nicely. All the actors and actresses were perfectly cast for their roles. J.J. Abrams yet again does an amazing job. I have a feeling everything that man touches turns to gold. Even if you compare this film to others in its genre besides just past Star Trek films, it's still better than most I have seen.

Crank

Just like Chev Chelios who can't stop moving otherwise he'll die from the poison that was injected into him, this film is always on the move from the start of the movie to the credits rolling at the end. There is little down time in this film unlike most movies in its genre which slows down on the thrilling action to give time to develop the plot, but just because it doesn't whine down for the plot it does well intertwining the development of the plot with the action. Besides the thrilling entertainment you can get from this film, this film never takes itself seriously mixing in a few number of humorous scenes as well which were all funny making it a fun film to watch at least more than once.

Ocean's Thirteen

Ocean's Thirteen wasn't as great as the first one in the trilogy but it was a big step up to the second film. All the original cast is back again except for Roberts, which I was cool with the film should focus more on the core gang of thieves themselves. Once again the acting was great and the story line was a step up from Ocean's Twelve. It was an incredible and fun film to watch.

The Matrix Reloaded

While mostly others thought The Matrix Reloaded didn't live up to its predecessor I thought it did and exceeded it. Again like the first one the acting wasn't special but at the same time I thought the story line got a little better and the action in the film was ramped up to a new level compared to the first. Like others has said that chase scene was the best I've seen in an action movie that I can think of; which should have been a no-brainier because they built their own stretch of freeway to film it. Matrix Reloaded is an excellent sequel to The Matrix.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

Great movie. The battle at the end of the movie was very satisfying, and it was left open for the possibly for a forth movie.

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol

If I had to sum up M:I IV in two words it would be "Mission: Accomplished", just like Ethan Hunt uttered towards the end of the film. Mission: Impossible IV Ghost Protocol was even more impressive then the last one, and the two before that; easily making it my favorite in the whole film franchise. Not only did it have a great story line plot, it was suspenseful, thrilling, and action packed. As with Mission: Impossible III you can definitely tell J.J. Abrams mark on the film; the dude knows how to make great movies.

The Dark Knight Rises

If there is only one little thing I'll nitpick about is that I wish there were more action scenes. They seemed to lack somewhat in this film, or they weren't as great as I was expecting them to be. The Dark Knight Rises is more character and story driven than the previous films which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Don't get me wrong besides that one little nitpick I thought the film was extremely excellent and Nolan continues to make great superhero films. As I said, The Dark Knight Rises has a great story line, all the cast were amazing, and above all else I loved the cameos and nods to all the previous films in the franchise. Without a doubt The Dark Knight Rises exceeds its predecessors and is the best in the trilogy (which is difficult for a third film in a trilogy to do) and it is a darn shame there will not be another film in the Nolan's Batman universe.

Act of Valor

Don't believe the bad reviews about this film. Act of Valor is an excellent movie through and through. I do agree with most of the other reviewers that the acting does suck most of the time, but you have to remember and keep in mind that these "actors" are real Navy SEALS. They didn't go and get an acting career. They joined the military. If you peel away the acting you are going to get a decent story and some of the best non-CGI action scenes. I haven't seen any non-CGI action scenes better than this; it was great and felt real. The action scenes were top-notch. On top of all that... Yes, this film was pretty much a feature length long recruitment video; but nonetheless, it was really entertaining.

Fast Five

With all of the main cast members from all previous four films joining together in Fast Five the fifth film in the franchise is top of the line pure epicness. With the addition of Dwayne Johnson Fast Five builds upon Fast & Furious format of less street racing and adds more car chases and now the element of a heist film. Fast Five continues to remain a little dark in its plot-line like its predecessor Fast & Furious but throws some extra comedy in the mix again like the earlier films in the franchise. Thus far Fast Five is my favorite in the series and if the trend continues hopefully the next film in the series will be even better.

Transformers

With a mix of action-comedy and things blowing up Transformers turned out to be an entertaining blockbuster to watch. Michael Bay did a really good job bringing the robots to life. They looked as real as a CGI robot could possibly be. Because this is a Michael Bay film you can expect the acting and story line to be subpar. Bay's true talent is making great action scenes and he delivers them well. Still five years later the action in this movie gives me thrills every time I watch it.

Battleship

I had a lot of fun watching this film; I don't understand why people hate on it so much. Battleship was an excellent popcorn flick through and through. Yeah the story line was light but the special effects and action scenes were amazing and I found myself cheering for us (the human race) a couple of times throughout the film. There is just one scene in the whole movie which mirrors the game this film is based off of, but besides that one small scene nothing else about the game Battleship is used in the movie except for the title of the film. Instead everything else about this film is your typical science fiction/alien attack movie. As far as the acting goes, you can't go wrong with Liam Neeson and Alexander Skarsgård; Rihanna should just stick with her music career, and Taylor Kitsch was just OK for the lead, but I felt like they should of got someone else for the part. All in all, Battleship is a solid entertaining summer popcorn flick.

Project X

Epic fun party movie; the best party movie I have ever seen. I want to go to a party like this at least once in my life. There isn't much of a plot to this movie; it is just about two friends trying to put together a massive party for their friend's birthday that is it. The real purpose of this movie is the out of control, fantasy, over the top, unbelievable, crazy, insane party - and what a party it was! I thought the movie was awesomely funny, and enjoyed most of it. By most of it, like others have said the movie has a slow start and doesn't really pick up until just after the party starts. Once the party starts, the movie starts getting fun, and some moments I felt like I was there. This movie isn't for everyone (like the critics), it is mindless fun. The people behind Project X promoted this movie as the best epic party movie of all time, they never once claimed that this movie had an in depth story.

American Pie 2

Very rarely does a sequel to a movie outperform the first, and in my opinion American Pie 2 does just that. The overall story and comedy was better than the classic hit of the first film and the acting got a lot better. This is my favorite film of the original trilogy.

Underworld: Awakening

Underworld: Awakening in my opinion wasn't the best in the series, but at the same time wasn't a bad film. It took a step back from the heavy mythology of the previous films and ramped up the action much more. I guess they are done telling the story of the history of Vampires and Werewolves and are starting to tell a different story of them in the present which I'm not against. I'll be looking forward to the next one.

American Reunion

In my opinion American Reunion is the second best in the American Pie series just below the second film; better than the rest. Seeing the entire original cast back even if some of them were only on the screen for no more than minute felt very nostalgic, and American Reunion did a wonderful job playing off of it. If you are a fan of the series then you will love this film. This film was hilarious, and had a lot of good heart. As mostly others are saying, American Reunion is a very satisfying conclusion to the American Pie series.

Fast & Furious

Ever since The Fast and the Furious came out in 2001, Fast & Furious was the sequel I was hoping for. With four of the main cast members from the original film back Fast & Furious was just as entertaining as the first and better than 2 Fast 2 Furious and Tokyo Drift. Fast & Furious geared down on the usual street racing the franchise was built on and instead focused on a darker and compelling story line than previous films in the series. The lack of racing in involved in this film sucked but overall I can appreciate the change in format. The acting was stepped up a bit and while there were less street racing involved, there were plenty of action to go around. This shift in format brought new life for future sequels in the franchise to come.

Getaway

I don't know why this film is getting a ton of bad reviews, but I loved it! Sure it is 90 minutes of just car chase scenes with few breaks, but that is what I loved most about the film. Was it the greatest movie of the year? No, but was it also the worst movie of the year? Heck no! I could name a dozen other films that was way more worst than this.

Live Free or Die Hard

This movie was great! The best I've seen this year alone. Tons of action, and it was also humorous through out the movie. It might not have that same feeling as the old movies because of it's PG-13 rating, but it was still great to watch.

The Bourne Ultimatum

This movie has got to be my favorite out of the three. I really enjoyed how well they've blended the first two films with the 3rd one. The only thing I didn't like about the movie was the fact it took Bourne just over half the movie to get to New York. Everything else was just perfect.

Batman Begins

If Sam Raimi set the bar for what a superhero film needs to be in his Spider-Man films, Christopher Nolan took that bar and smashed it and then replaced it with his own bar set even higher than the one set by Raimi. Nolan took the Batman franchise to new heights. Batman Begins is the best superhero origin film that is out there (still to this date in the year 2012). The acting was great with an excellent cast and the darker story line (compared to other superhero films which is more light) was amazing. After watching Bale as Batman, I thought he was born to play the role. Also some of the action scenes weren't bad at all. I enjoyed how Nolan wanted to make the film as real as a fantasy film could be by changing the look of the Batmobile and what the future Batcave could look like as a couple of examples; the film turned out better for it.

Ocean's Twelve

Ocean's Eleven's sequel didn't have the same spark I thought that its predecessor had. The cast and acting are still amazing and some of the wit and smarts shows, but the story line wasn't as interesting to me this time around which made it less fun to watch compared to the other two films in the trilogy. Ocean's Twelve is still an entertaining film to watch through and through but it's my least favorite of the trilogy and a film I usually skip sometimes if I want to watch Ocean's Eleven and Ocean's Thirteen.

Serenity

Sadly when people reference Whedon's previous work they say either (pre-Avengers) Buffy or Angel or both hardly does Firefly gets dropped. Serenity is a continuation of that television show which was a diamond in the rough. Even though this film was based off a television show that only ran 11 episodes on FOX before it was pulled, Serenity is actually a decent entertaining film that can rival most other Sci-Fi films out there. This film was humorous and thrilling at the same time. The plot of the film which helped tie lose ends of the television series was original and entertaining to follow and the cast were all excellent. Fillion is the best!

The Matrix

The Matrix raised the bar and pioneered in crazy special effects and action scenes for any future action movie to try to achieve for years to come. This film was a masterpiece. The acting was subpar and story line wasn't half bad, but the real gem was all the action this film packed. It was extremely fun to watch. The Wachowski brothers did an amazing job creating something special here.

loading replies
The Matrix Revolutions

The Matrix trilogy lost some of its fire in the last film. The story line felt boring most times and most of the action I felt that was great in the first two films wasn't in the last. I feel like this was a side effect of The Wachowski brothers trying to focus more on the real world and Zion than the Matrix which let's be honest the best action scenes were of that inside the Matrix. In the end Matrix Revolutions turned out to be a disappointing conclusion to the trilogy. Still despite its flaws, Matrix Revolutions shouldn't be skipped if you haven't seen the whole trilogy as it was still somewhat "just a little" bit entertaining to watch.
