I wanted to like this film, but it drags for most of the film, the dialogue is not interesting, and visually its not very strong. The ending was OK, even though it made no sense. The trailer sold this as a much more retro vibe!
I have such mixed feelings about this one. While it does attempt to improve on the original visually, I could care less about the characters and their awful acting.
This was a solid film. It's dumb and over the top, but not void of humour or wit. The CGI was actually pretty good in this one. I wasn't cringing in figured when a lot of CGI was in use. That being all said, there's something about this film that doesn't make it top tier entertainment. I'm not sure what it is but I don't understand the hate it receives.
Like a really long episode of Bob's burgers
A good old romp of a time
A good time, especially if you're a young white dude.
A classic. Shaped my childhood by the goriness that unfolds.
Hated it as a kid because it wasn't gory enough. Now I can appreciate it for what it is.
Still holds up. Still evokes an intensity appt of other horror films don't match.
The character development isn't as strong as the first one, but Jesus the visuals alone are bonkers.
Alot of heart and snow crazy animations and at design that made this a fun one to watch.
I don't even like super hero films but this to me is easily in the top 5 best super hero films. Granted it helps that I knew a good amount of the backstory, but otherwise a thrilling show.
Not nearly as good as the first one, but it's still watchable.
As cliche as allot of things may be, they execute it well to where youre along for the ride rather than rolling your eyes. Fun to watch even on multiple watches.
There's some spots that feel hokey and drawn out, but otherwise, a solid episodic show with an interesting concept.
I fucking HATE the character designs in this film. It's the main reason I give this film a lower rating than it deserves. When it comes to the story and pacing, this film is created masterfully. I went from being angry at looking at the characters to caring about them half way through.
Everyone I watch it, it still engages me. The visuals in several scenes are becoming dated, but the pacing and structure of the film still holds up.
I didn't love this movie as much as others, but I still recognize it's a solid film. The pacing is fantastic in this.
Honestly it's not that bad of a film. It's not necessary to watch, but it's entertaining enough. If course Robin Williams is an unhinged delight, even if it feels like an extended outtake. Biggest problem is it feels unimportant. The stakes aren't very high to me..
Great directing, a solid script, but somewhat of an average romantic story. The music is fairly cartoonish and typical of 20th century films. The costumes and set deisgn are marvelous. Its a shame this film is mired in the bad decision to be best picture, when Saving Private Ryan should have won.
I was resistant to watching this for a long time, but it actually was a well done movie. Some jokes don't agree well, but as a whole, it kept me engaged.
Even with all the brutality, Spielberg still manages to slip in his norman Rockwell charm on certain scenes, especially the ending. The first battle scene is iconic. The final battle scene was wonderful. The flow of the film is fairly balanced, although there were several moments that could have been trimmed down. Overall, the blueprint for modern war films
Such a unique look for it's time, while being dark and unsettling in its design. The story and character development here is almost non existent. Yet somehow this is also a musical?? Overall, it was worth watching, although I would pair it with something as it's fairly short.
Joon-Ho's directing is the star of the show. Some of the scenes were delightfully wild or unexpected. The beginning did feel like any other dystopian film though. My biggest gripe was there needed to be more character development. The CGI for the outside was pretty bad, but I forgive the quality since the inside scenes are almost all practicals. The ending does feel anti climatic, but maybe not?
This is where style and presentation makes a difference. Without breaking the fourth wall, using big stylized fonts for text messages, or even dream like formalistic shots, this would have been a forgettable film. It also transitioned from light humored comedy to full blown generational trauma film effortlessly. The script could have been tighter, but otherwise a good indie film.
Still a fun watch that holds up
My personal favorite from the Disney Renaissance
Gorgeous animations, a fairly dark story, with subpar songs
I didn't think I would like it, but this is a classic
What was this supposed to be? It's certainly not a ha-ha comedy. It's not a drama. It's not even a dramedy. It feels like an epic from the 50s, yet not grandiose in any way. Most of the scenes feel like an acting audition for a college play rather than a film. An interesting concept that doesn't do anything for me. Watchable only if youre stick on an airplane or at a doctor's office.
