The greatest performer of this generation, and to me, personally, of all time. Beyoncé's a FORCE. But this documentary shows that she's human too and that made it all the more brilliant. No one compares.
This is a perfect movie. Simple as.
Im conflicted. Might need to come back and edit this comment later because this is one of those movies that you only figure out what you really thought of it after some distance. Right now, like i said, i'm conflicted, because the same things that made me like it, weirdly made me not love it? Which doesn't make a lot of sense but people seem to praise the mix of genres in this film but for me, although that makes this film unique, surprising and captivating, it also spreads it out a bit all over the place, so much so it stops feeling concise and starts verging on a big mess. It's walking somewhere in the line that separates a successful attempt and a disastrous one. But one thing that cannot be taken away from it is the boldness to even attempt to make such a movie, and definitely the originality of it. Right now i'll give it a "great", time and maybe a second watch will tell if it becomes a solid 8, if it goes down to 7 or even goes up to 9.
8/10
edit!!!! saw it again: definitely a 9 but still think the ending falls a bit short
Just wanted to update my comment that this is now one of my fave films of all time and gets better and better with every watch.
I'm definitely bias and haven't even watched that many concert films in my life, so I don't really know how to review them without focusing solely on how much I love or don't love the artist. Well, I love LOVE Taylor Swift. She's the most talented artist in pop music currently, and note that I say artist - not performer. There's definitely a difference. And as much as this film shows Taylor the performer, the moments that stuck most with me were the acoustic performances, that really is her element, that's when her songs truly shine through, as they should, for the masterpieces they are (All Too Well... i mean...) and that's what sets her apart from most acts in today's comercial music industry. That being said, the major, epic, choreography, special effects filled performances were still really enjoyable and had me singing as loud as I could. Every word in every song has a weight of its own and it's amazing to see how different the world Taylor creates around each one is from the one you create in your own mind when listening to her albums. I had already absolutely loved her 1989 tour film and this one wasn't any different. I hope one day I can live them in person and not just experience them through a screen.
10/10
Now what the fuck was the hype around this show all about? Awful characters, average theatrical action, and the plot is predictable and cowardly.
Just such incredible documentarian work done here. Not just the immense stock of footage they combed through and collected, but also the storytelling and story-mapping throughout the whole series. Very very well made. May every victim rest in perfect peace.
The show is definitely decreasing in quality and the new characters are pretty boring/stale but it's still one hell of a good time. Next season, they either bring in characters with Cayetana/Rebeka/Valerio's level or I think they're pretty doomed. But I will still tune in and give it a chance.
poorest season yet but i love these characters so much
this show is very very well written
This was definitely one of the most depressing things I've ever watched, but what an achievement in documentary film making.
hi, im only on ep 2 but this is already my favourite show of all time. bye.
honestly i love a good progressive show and i get that this is trying to reimagine hollywood but........ so. corny. god, second hand embarrassment was real. anyways the cast is amazing, and deserved a better script.
I loved the call backs to previous seasons all throughout this one but my shitty shittyyyyy memory and the long hiatuses simply do not work well enough to fully allow me to appreciate this season in all its glory. I truly believe that if i actually remembered the stuff that happened in the previous 5 seasons instead of just the bits and pieces I retained, this would be one of my absolute favourite seasons of the show. Every season is always hard to get into at first, because of how the first few eps are used to set stuff up and not much usually happens but as soon as u get to the second half of the season, every single time with this show, you get an amazing pay-off. I'm SO glad i caught up w it in time to enjoy the last ever season. i've been watching since s1 dropped, that's a LOT of years. I love these characters SO much and they are the only reason i'm still watching, because frankly i dont even attempt to understand anything that goes on anymore, it's way too complicated for my tiny bird brain hahahaha
The way this show's been made so far, from a cinematic point of view, is incredible. Some of the most inspired directional choices I've seen on tv lately, made even more interesting by the direct reference to the books and the way the show has excelled in the "show, don't tell" rule, even though it is based on a very introspective source material. They balanced Lenú's narration with simply showing us what she's thinking through visual cues, metaphors, camera angles, focus techniques, etc. It's excellent and super exciting to watch as a huge fan of the novels. The acting is phenomenal (I never even found any interest in Stefano in the books but what the actor did with the character here made him one of the most interesting ones to watch). Book two was my favourite in the series and season two was my favourite of the two so far as well. Let's see how season 3 fares with a more adult and political story to go off of.
I really really like this show. Season 3 actually has the potential to be its best yet, which makes me nervous cus shows are notorious for fucking up third seasons, especially when there's this much potential.
I have to agree with another comment on this page when it comes to the fact that this show thrives because of its amazingly built charismatic characters who also happen to be funny as hell. David and Alexis are two of my favourite characters ever. It's also amazing how the show never loses steam. I binged it pretty quickly and with each season it just got better and funnier. I'm gonna miss it so much but i'm sure i'll have a rewatch pretty soon.
