Commenting ahead of time to avoid all the people that are jumping on the hate bandwagon. The seasons a slasher one inspired by 80s horror... stop acting like you are expecting The Shawshank Redemption. Or continue to nitpick and blend in with the rest of the generic comments.
Great, great and great. I was expecting a silly film but it turned out to be simple, fun and engaging. I loved all the characters, ironic and representative of the LGBT community
I'm seeing some negative reactions in here. Well, I quite liked it tbh. Had me glued to the screen the whole time. Maybe I don't remember the quality of seasons 1-5 or maybe I'm just happy with little, who knows. Everyone seems to hate this season and I have to say I'm not 100% happy with it. BUT. I really liked this episode. Anyway, what can I say.
I read all of the books in the series before the show premiered. After a couple of episodes, I was done with the show. The thought of repeating all of that horror and misery, only on the screen instead of the page, didn't seem worth it, production values be damned. Some months later, I happened to walk into a room where someone was watching one of the last episodes of the first season. It was a scene where Tywin Lannister sermonises to Jaime while butchering an animal. It was a scene not taken directly from the books, but made whole cloth for the TV show. I was mesmerised, and suddenly, all on board again.
To me, the appeal of Game of Thrones has never been in the way it brings the books alive, but in how it diverges. It's been in the way it's emphasised, through performance, the humanity of its characters (both for ill and good), thus giving me something I never got from Martin's writing. Where some have lamented the direction the show has taken since it started outpacing the source material, I've actually grown fonder of it. The farther away it's gotten from the cutting of those adaptational apron strings, the more I feel like it's grown into its own thing.
So, while I don't doubt that the remaining episodes of this final season will break my heart in lots of ways – and George R.R. Martin will find several more when he gets around to telling the "real" version of the same story – I thoroughly appreciate that Game of Thrones is the kind of the show that knows the importance of showing people coming together, huddling for warmth in the face of impending doom. I could still feel the claw in my gut, of the horror to come, but I'm glad that's not all the show is about.
The season 10 of Friends as a Marvel superhero movie. After all the hype, we knew it was going to be a let-down, we just didn't know it was going to be disappointing.
Compared to Avengers: Infinity War (and how can one not?), in which the multiple character angles were juggled with sufficient expertise, the different arcs were badly botched in Endgame. Minor characters chew up screen time and some characters we were led to believe were major appear so little their absence glows like a nuclear WTF.
And remember how we were warned there wouldn't be any moments to take a pee break? Oh my God, taking a leak isn't the concern, taking a nap is, because the real challenge the Avengers face through most of the film is staying awake.
The first two acts are overlong, with dialogue heavy, self-indulgent information dumps and its only in the tragically short climax that we get to see the sort of action that filled Infinity War from beginning to end.
The bottom line is that The Avengers: Endgame is not just worse than Infinity War, it's worse than Justice League. But of course it will make Disney buckets of money, which is what the studio wants, and fanboys will defend it tooth and nail, which is what they want, so the only ones left out in the cold are those of us who simply want to watch a halfway decent action flick.
Is not bad, but is not a good movie either. When I watched Infinity War I remember that I left the cinema pumped, gasping and almost crying, because I watched a great movie with a perfect script. Compared to the previous film, Endgame is kinda disappointing.
I think time travel was a very lazy solution, specially because is not something we ever saw in the MCU. Revisiting places and moments we already see in the MCU should be fun and emotional, but the way they did felt awkward and disrespectful to me.
The dialogues were poorly construct to the point that even the deaths of main characters didn't caused a big impact on me.
The decision to have Bruce Banner as Hulk for almost the entire movie was so lame, and Hulk's CGI face was irritating to look at.
The only memorable moment of the film for me was Captain America using Thor's hammer.
And the Captain Marvel, who was suppose to be a big deal on this movie, ended being more like a secondary character, used only as a plot device.
Anyway, I'm glad is over, and I'm glad I didn't had too much expectations about this movie.
this episode really got trakt transphobes out of their cages huh
Conservatives and rant against PC, name a more iconic duo eyeroll
Was an OK film but didn't lived up to expectations.
I was really looking forward to this movie, even though I am not the greatest Thor fan. However, the trailer looked interesting, I love the 80s style with the colours, it promised to be a wild movie with a great antagonist - I mean seriously - what could go wrong with Cate Blanchett, and even better in a dark gothic look?
Well, I was absolutely disappointed. Seriously, what where they thinking when shooting/editing this movie? There is no plot, the story is totally random and has no meaning at all anymore. It's just like a bad 90s sitcom that is progressing from one joke to the next, and this time it didn't stop at anything - stupidity, slapstick, vulgarity, we have it all, and without any style or niveau. I mean seriously "Oh, I'm drunk, I will just fall down" (as an entrance of a new and important character), "oh, I just saw hulks penis", "now we'll have to fly into the anus", etc. What's the target audience of this movie, childish boys in their puberty? I think even for them this is rather embarrassing than funny....
Epic, dramatic fighting scenes, e.g. when Hela defeats Asgard are equaly destroyed by stupid jokes as are emotinal scenes. Someone died? Just make a joke. Haha, and let's go on. Due to this, this movie wasn't exciting to me at all, it wasn't emotional, it was just dull. This movie is so jokes-packed, that even after the first three minutes (and did they really just do the stupid rope-joke in the introduction three times?! It was hardly funny the first time, it was annoying the second time, and the third I was angered, because obviously the director must think I am stupid), I had enough. And that is somewhat sad, because in the mass of stupid jokes there are some moments that actually where pretty great and that would have functioned superb in isolation. Take Jeff Goldblums character that is refreshingly eccentric and funny. Or Korg - great humoristic character. But having a more than 2 hour sitcom, this doesn't work anymore, even if it's good.
I do believe the story had potential, I mean they had a great soundtrack, stunning visuals, perfect CGI, absolutely gorgeous colours and scenes, a really great cast, I already mentioned the great Jeff Goldblum, who I found ingenious. Cate Blanchett is always a win, and she could have brought so much to this movie. And Tessa Thompson also stuck out to me - great charisma, interesting character. But none of them gets enough chance to really portrait their character, none of them gets any dept. Especially Cate Blanchetts talent is totally wasted - she could have been absolutly evil, strong, powerful - the perfect villain. But she isn't - the antagonist is (as with so many comic movies these days) a joke and a total disaster. There is hardly any substance, much to short screen time for character develpment, for backgrounds, for some seriousness. Nothing.
Seriously, I wouldn't have been surprised if there was laughter from the off.....
4/10
After Spiderman now this ?!?! If this is the direction Marvel is going with its movies than this was the last one I watched. It is already the first I quit watching. Never got into it, bored after 15 min out after 15 more. Even Cate Blanchett, of whom I am an avid admirer, could not convince me to watch more. Way to much comedy and what's worse, comedy without niveau. I am not opposed to comedy but at the right amount and at the right time. If every second scene/sentence is a joke than basically your whole movie becomes one. As someone wrote: all that was missing was the laughter from the off.
I couldn't agree with flex more. was quite excited about this film due in part to the fantastic cast but equally the director.
Unfortunately I was left a little disappointed in the lack of any real depth to the story. I get the revenge genre (from Oldboy to I Spit on Your Grave to Lady Snowblood) but usually they have a half decent story driving them along. This just seemed a dumbed down version, only a notch above the torture-porn genre Hollywood has been checking out for some time.
This is definetely not a horror movie, and given its weak and predictable storyline, not a good thriller either. It is, however, a rather decent slasher/action film.
Also, despite being quite entertaining, the movie is extremely violent and overly long. The main story of vengeance gets diluted by the unnecessary scenes of killing and raping, to the point that the argument becomes an accessory rather than a guiding line, or point of reflection.
Do not expect much from it.
For the life of me I don't understand why this movie gets so many positive reviews. It made many critics' top ten lists for the year. And it is terrible. Just awful.
Yes, it is very different, weird, and creative... but that doesn't mean it's good or entertaining. Its a dystopian future that has absolutely no basis in any logic or coherence, the characters are totally unlikeable, and it's unnecessarily cruel.
Sometime I think people say they like weird, artsy movies just so they look like they get and appreciate artsy things, not because they actually enjoyed the movie.
Don't waste your time. One of the worst movies I have ever watched.
Entertaining because it's bizarre and silly but beyond that it's pretty bad. It's the same ideas recycled and a failure of any interesting development. The plot ideas are often mismatched with the atmosphere on screen or lack of it. It didn't have any impact and it wasn't funny enough to pull off the deadpan humour. It felt like it was written by an adolescent coming up with what he thought would be a cool idea then struggling to pad it out. The way the dialogue was spoken sometimes fails to make an impact as it tries to also be deadpan. The character existed and didnt live - very bland. Dialogue also bland. Started off hit and miss and then just a miss. Social commentary? Hardly. It lacks a human connection to make it relatable. It's more an examine of sci-fi societal laden rules to reflect our own with robotic human characters.
I just didn't think it worked.
For a film with a fine cast and a very interesting idea that is trying desperately to say something about the modern world and attitudes to relationships, sacrifice, love, fitting in and some other stuff I didn’t get this film is a disappointment.
As usual like an awful lot of films it is at least half-an-hour too long although the story appears to be good and slightly different, it starts off with good pace and is reasonable funny, different and interesting and then somehow loses its way and becomes turgid and eventually collapses in on itself and ends with a ‘you decide’ finale by which time you are either not watching or no longer invested in the story or characters.
Colin Farrell plays against type and delivers a performance two steps away for Ardal O’Hanlon in Father Ted but only because he and the rest of the top notch cast have been directed to deliver their lines like an emotionless read-through. It’s funny and different for a while and then gets tiring, trite and boring. The humour, particularly in the first ‘hotel’ part of the film is dark but it is funny and makes you laugh but once we get to the woods the film is just darker and the creepy, menacing feeling from the first half of the film changes to ‘unpleasant’ for the rest of the running time. Perhaps this is what the writers and director wanted but it did not sit well with me.
I’ve no doubt that the creators will point at the message they are trying to portray in their wacky way but I can’t help feeling that The Lobster like many weird and wonderful films fails due to the fact so many people will have no real idea what is going on or worse still will fail to care before the conclusion.
It's like Fargo on sci-fi. Apparently the entire point was, "Duh..."!
Deus me livre, eu ir nesse hospital e ser atendido pela Cristina kkk ela é muito fria, preferiria o George ou o Alex, que são mais carismáticos e ajudaria mais eu a melhorar.
Suspiria is more over the top than a precariously perched guillotine. It is a violent clash of bright colors where the sound is so brash that the noise is a character and it overacts. The film is a vicious symphony of kitsch, and gripped in it's heavy-handed style is a bloody axe.
If Suspiria were a serial killer it would be a chainsaw massacre on roller skates coming right in your face and cutting off your head with brutish precision.
Don't watch Suspiria to be frightened, watch it to be overwhelmed by the volume of its guts and the volume of its volume.
I just re-watched this, and as stunning as I think Argento's visuals and music are, I'm glad they're doing a remake. This suffers from being too disjointed and fakey, and the acting blows. I could accept it as a B movie, but it's too gorgeous for a B movie, and too dumb for a good movie. If the remake can take the best parts of Argento and bring some good writing and acting, it could really have something.
Slighty worse than the first two. I know they intentionally made it a post apocalyptic movie in the style of Mad Max but I think it´s to much of a copycat at times. And I´m not a huge fan of the Hitchcock homage as I would call it. But I like how they develope the plot. Althought not very deep, it´s not meant to, it´s a logigical conclusion of it´s predecessors. Action is good, getting a bit tired of the dogs now for the third time.
Dull, obvious and a plot with more holes than a tramp's socks; a real snooze, literally! I fell asleep twice.
It's funny how avoiding trailers can make your experience with movies better.
If you have read the book, the movie was shit compared to the book. If you compare tv show to the book, it's shit again. Approach this as something new, dont compare it to the book. It has a potential, lets see how well it goes.
When you have nothing else to watch this could be a fun movie to watch. The only thing I really hated is that the trailer is not that bad. The trailer of this movie is actually interesting to see how this movie could have been. Sadly 50% of the trailer does not make it into the movie, and it's the good half of the trailer that got cut out of the movie. Disapointed..? yes.
Not what I expected. Too dark to notice the details. Too much screaming and not that scary. Overall, watchable, but nothing special.
The Purge: Election Year is the second best of the series with the best premise of all three. This film, like the previous, took to the streets, but it also introduced (while only slight) a wider variety of crimes. Above the rest, it has a full-circle concept and a ton of action.
The thing I didn't like came down to the fact that it merely FELT like the same movie as its predecessor, that is... Not believable. The idea is, but the execution is a little over the top and feels too much like an amateur production. It's still a fun movie to think about, and I'm glad the trilogy has come to an end
I've seen Batman Begins yesterday for the first time and I didn't like it that much. i rated it 5/10. thought this one might be better but it didn't. i've watched the first hour then jumped right into the last 20 minutes or so. I just couldn't watch more. clearly, it wasn't made for me.
i absolutel loved this series. The setting is beautiful, the lighting is great, the music is hauntingly beautiful. The story does take a while to get going and in the beginning you dislike the main character, but once you understand the reasons behind her actions you almost feel guilty for ever disliking her.
