3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’:
Welcome back, Tim Burton and your wonderful wackiness!!! That’s how you double down on a classic, honor it, but give it new life and vibes in a new era. Bravo.
Catherine O’Hara continues to be an absolute scene-stealing queen.
Michael Keaton DIDN’T MISS A FRICKIN’ BEAT. Still Beetlejuice through and through.
Bonus Thought: Winona Ryder is such a treasure. To see her back as Lydia makes my soul so happy.
An enjoyable second helping of 'Beetlejuice'.
'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice' isn't far adrift the original, even if I'd still rank the first film higher. I gotta say those behind this did a good job with the teaser trailer, I hadn't even seen the 1988 flick but that got my interest. Speaking of trailers, I'm glad they changed that cringey pilates instructor line for Astrid - right call!
Michael Keaton remains the best cast member, though Winona Ryder and newcomer Jenna Ortega are not far off. Willem Dafoe doesn't feature much but naturally still manages to be one of movie's strong points. Justin Theroux's character didn't really do anything for me, while Monica Bellucci feels a little underused but perhaps not; what we get from her as Delores is still decent and arguably enough.
Sounds like Tim Burton doesn't want to another sequel, which is probably for the best but if the studio wanted to go behind his back I, I'm afraid, would have to allow it on this occasion strictly for the obvious title possibility. Though I guess the ritual has already occurred with the two titles combined. Fairs.
The musical scene using Dona Summer's MacArthur Park was awesome!!!
First of all, I didn’t read the book and only saw the trailer. Based on the trailer i thought it was gonna be a love story about two men in her life. And ofc she’s gonna end up the “good” guy. But the movie had more in store and I really loved that. More focus on generational trauma than just another 2024 version of movies like “The Notebook”.
But then again i think they’ve should made a short series instead of a movie. There were some parts shortened and felt sometimes a bit rushed or skipped. However for me, i still enjoyed it really well. The general feeling is still felt even with some of the rushed parts. I think Blake did a good job and was fitting for this movie.
A very rare case when a movie is better than its promotion
Really enjoyed the story that was told in the first half, but the second half just felt so rushed.
I hadn’t read the book prior to the movie, but kept hearing that it would be sad and left viewers crying. Now I’m a sucker for a sad movie that will make me ugly cry, but I think I had maybe one single tear unfortunately.
It’s clear Blake Lively is the main star, but Jenny Slate’s did such an incredible job. She was sweet, effortlessly funny, and so likeable.
It would be interesting to see what details they left out of the book, cause I feel that movie left out a few chapters worth of content
A pretty frivolous, campy, and goofy movie, but Shelly Long is absolutely delightful.
Seriously, if they'd cast someone who tried to play the part for laughs, it wouldn't have been as good as Shelly Long's approach as a serious actor playing a goofy character. Shelly is beautiful and bright and her smiling face and BIG EYES make her a joy to watch. The dance sequence alone is a standout scene; Shelly doing those dances, and committing to them, not trying to exaggerate awkwardness for laughs made me laugh out loud.
Some people here seem to have the attention span of a TikTok video
Wilford being involved and working for the bad guys seems perfectly reasonable in the kind of world we live in, I'm not even surprised. I was surprised at how quickly they got Big Alice back, I think they wasted a bit too much time in the first half of the episode and some editing might've fixed that. Wilford holding Liana at the end of the episode felt too super villain-y to me, but that was probably pay back for the team taking Big Alice back. And then the thing with Ben dying and Bess realising that he planned to sacrifice himself, MY HEART. I've always loved Ben, but it made sense, he carries the weight of the world and he wants to fix other people's mistakes. They didn't have Josie so this was their only option, he knew that. His little moment of "Come on Engineer!" as heart breaking.
This is easily the worst season and it’s unfortunate it had to be the final one. The huge lack of Melanie (again) and Layton’s behavior having all this domino effect. Ben dying (LIKE REALLY?? You had to touch Ben like that?), it’s the last straw for me.
This is nice feel good movie…. Don’t listen to any bad reviews. If you want to relax and watch a nice easy movie with some laughs and some tears…. This is a good one
Story won't set the world on fire, but it hit all the right notes from a cuteness factor.
Bonus points for Efron taking the piss out of celebrity culture and Joey being the snarky smartass we all know and love.
Well, at least it was better than Old...
In all seriousness, this is the first time I have appreciated Bautista as an actor. And the expectation of a Shyamalan twist actually helped the movie by keeping the tension going all the way until the end.
I just wish the emotional journey of the movie was handled a little more gracefully and a little less Shamalan-ly. But I suppose that's too much to expect.
Also, what was up with Leonard saying, "I didn't realize you were the only female in the family" or whatever? I thought that meant they were going to have to sacrifice a female. Though I'm glad that wasn't the case.
Not M. Night Shyamalan's best movie, but a satisfactory movie that succeeded in what it was trying to do. The tension was established quite early in the movie, and it never let up until the very end. I will say the end of the movie did leave with more to be desired, but I can't say the movie didn't keep me watching throughout.
is the plot that if two men get married and adopt an Asian child, they will cause the apocalypse? "what a twist"
8/10 might be overkill but man I had a fricking good time at the cinema. This movie delivered, it's what it says on the tin.
RPGs in a nutshell: "Thou shalt get sidetracked by bullshit every goddamn time."
Did not play the game, but does that injection stimpax heal anything?
“I’d offer you one of these cherry tomatoes, but you got a hole in ‘yo neck…”
Solid first episode, looking forward to the rest
Well, well, well. Why, is this an Amish production of The Count of Monte Cristo or just the weirdest circle jerk I've been invited to?
So Happy we are finally getting season 4
Better than expected period piece. I thought it would be less fun than watching clay dry. I was wrong.
Still think they are doing a decent job with this show. It could have been a complete dumpster fire, but overall I like it. The mix of old and new characters is well balanced and I think they match pretty good. It's light-hearted and goofy and just a fun watch.
I see no lie. Donna would make him cry.
Kinda messy plot-wise, but some prime The Boys bit in the expo and at the farm. Plus I hadn't expected to be this moved by Simon Pegg's story, easily his best performance alongside The World's End.
Just rewatched this AGAIN and I still get teary eyed at the end of the movie because of how amazing it is.
Jace and Baela have all my heart.
