Nothing could have prepared me for episode 4. It is extremely dark and upsetting. That episode was hard to watch knowing that really happened to author in real life. Episode 4 left me emotionally drained. My brain needed a break.
I have to say up to this moment I was really frustrated with watching Donny making bad decisions with regards to the Martha situation, Donny’s insane lack of boundaries got on my nerves. But in this episode he finally admitted Martha was giving him the attention that he craved, as he said, “Martha saw me the way I wanted to be seen.”
Overhyped episode. Nothing new was said. This is like one of those reality reunion episode. I'm not a fan of the format.
It's so strange and breaking-the-fourth-wall-ish watching that final monologue knowing the actor who's preforming it is the one who wrote it and also the one who's been though the harrowing events in real life. I guess making the series was a healing journey? Idk.
Oh man.. that ending. So heavy, so sad.
I found the ending to be quite good. It successfully brought all the elements of the show together and provided a satisfying explanation for the title. Additionally, it shed light on Martha's traumatic childhood and the reasons behind her choice of 'baby reindeer' as a term of endearment.
Donny finally confessing to his parents, going back to see his abuser, the support from Keeley and her mom Liz. The fact it ended with him getting a free coke and vodka and that's how it started with Martha.
Fantastic episode!
The newly-revealed relationship with Teri, the "Tony" persona, the internalized transphobia, they all add nuance and complexity to Donny's character, showing how his low self-worth and unmet needs for acceptance and affection have allowed Martha to bulldoze his boundaries, with gradually escalating transgressions leading up to her sexual assault on him.
Martha shows signs of manic behavior, all consistent with bipolar disorder: the grandiose lies, the giddiness, the pressured speech, the persistent sexually inappropriate remarks, the disorganized home etc.
This show has a grip on me. During the first episode I already knew the story is true, but afterwards I discovered that the main character is portrayed by the real person, the man who lived the story. Watching this second episode, knowing Donny “is actually Donny”… This is undeniably a unique form of art I've never seen before.
This show utterly gutted me, but I'm glad I saw it.
I’m so damn proud of Wille for finally calling out his useless, disgusting parents.
However, it was really difficult to see Simon choose that exact moment to break Wille’s heart further by ending it between them. I understand things aren’t really working out with their relationship, and I truly feel like neither of them is at fault for that, but Simon definitely needed to just be there for Wille right now and discuss their break-up at a different time.
It’s just frustrating because I know Simon can be really soft and gentle and sweet sometimes, but he can also act really selfishly. I honestly just think Wilhelm has always loved Simon more than the other way around and it often shows in their actions…
P.S. I kind of hate myself for loving Sara and August as a couple, but I do. I should wish them nothing but heartache and loneliness after what they did, but I somehow still get sucked in because of August’s complete and utter devotion to her. He seems to love and adore her so much, I just can’t help but want them together.
"What's the catch?"
That was such a Harlem Shake moment :joy:
More everybody, and less Amerie, please. She is so annoying.
oh my god dude you arw PISSING ME OFF like i get it babes BUT GET SOME FUCKING HELP
I bet everyone who said Donny was unsympathetic and unlikable because he wasn't acting how they thought he should feels really fuckin' stupid right now. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I can’t believe nobody has bitch-slapped that slimy arsehole Vincent yet. I mean, just LOOK at that face, LOOK at that haircut: doesn’t he just scream “punch me”?
Watching MEAN GIRLS for the first time was just one "Oh, so that's where that comes from!" after another. #iunderstoodthatreference
If Maze and Linda are dating I will lose my shit.
Cheyenne is literally the worst in this episode.
One of the best episodes! Bluey and Bingo mirroring evolution of the species while ageing metaphorically, was brilliant!!
So they spend a lot of money filming Fighter and Tutor's trip so they need to show that not only for one full episode but two and because some viewers were mad (like me) for not seeing Zon and Saifah not even in a single scene they show us some parts we didn't get to see yet..... ok...
I can't believe Otis had the audacity of calling Eric selfish... Dude, it was his birthday, you were supposed to be celebrating it with him
Man I feel bad for Ruby she deserves better than Otis. Also, the Adam scene where he was smiling on a horse. YES!!!! Otis and Aimee are such a likable duo that I also wished they used more in the previous seasons.
Holy shit. What an absolutely shitty thing to do to a person and his family. I feel sorry for Drake and his father. His father sounded like such a good person. Huge respect for drake coming forward and telling his story, I can only imagine how hard it was.
Loving this season.
Rahim and Eric on the dance machine were just about the sweetest thing.
Jakob has started to annoy me. I don’t like when people act like they own someone else’s place. There’s a time for that, but I don’t feel that time has come yet.
Poor Aimee. It’s so typical. You think you’re the one inconveniencing everyone because well, it’s just a sneeze, but then you suddenly find yourself invaded and scared and triggered. Woop.
This ending was fine I guess. Ruby, Adam, and Michael ended up being the most interesting characters in the show these final two seasons. Wasn't really a fan of the new characters in this season. Seasons 1 and 2 were definitely far superior to 3 and 4, but they were all enjoyable enough. Good place to end it.
"He's very emotionally available... that's a red flag." Jessica 2020
You can smell Mark's desperation.
Jessica trying really hard to snake Amber's man out from under her.
The scene where Lucifer answers the door wearing that lovely sweater and is soon to be joined by his lovely companion was one of the best scenes of the whole show!
And Dan awkwardly trying to "sweet talk" Charlotte into having a threesome with Maze was hysterical!
This season sure took its time to warm up, but since the last episode it seems that Lucifer is finally back on its adorable devilish track.
Simply amazing. This is what the show really needs. I lost it at so many moments that's actually difficult to point out just one. After this messed up season, it seems like Lucifer's back on track and I couldn't be more glad.
If there's one thing this show's been lacking this season is more moments to remind us that Lucifer is not a mere human, but the Devil himself. The scene in the karaoke was the perfect example. That scene had me in stitches. Not only did he entered the karaoke saying "Drug dealers" in Korean but the background music in that fight scene is actually "Lucifer" by SHINee. I couldn't. I had to watch it again because I couldn't get over it.
Having Lucifer imitating Linda (glasses included) and trying therapy with Cain was gold. The whole undercover scene was just the cherry on the top, and Lucifer being a horrible neighbour was just perfect.
"Everybody has a kryptonite", I lost it. That Smallville reference.
Getting serious now, this episode has touched harsh topics such as suicide and loneliness in such a lighthearted way that they didn't seem that hard. I love when this show does that. They talked about suicide as if it were something trivial and we even got a "jump into a volcano". This show keeps on surprising me with its way of dealing with difficult and emotional topics that way.
