Jurassic World Dominion

I'm a bit torn on this one. The first half was just bad. Badly written, and needlessly long. The second half was better, even entertaining in some parts. But it's being carried by the old cast all the way.

Emergency Situation

Ok, this was fun. With how absurd the whole situation is and how totally stupid the characters are, you just have to laugh.

The Menu

Quite an original idea, really well made. The only thing I was really missing, was the motivation. Just why? Are they just crazy? There is no explanation or anything at all

The Pope's Exorcist

Not original or scary, but quite good. Especially the performance of Russel Crowe was great. I do hope there will be a sequel.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

Not bad, but could be better. Especially the first half is quite boring and slow. Around the halfway point it feels like the movie changes writers and it got better, even with some clever moments. I also presume one or multiple of the writers have a very fragile ego and he had to belittle or insult every male character in the movie. At least that also disappears in the second half.

The movie is being dragged down by many jokes that just don't land or don't fit the setting at all. Also, the overall randomness was bad. They just need something and something happens, or they find something, all the time. Crazy convenient.

As mentioned, once over the half, there are some really good moments and it was quite enjoyable in the end. But I was not interested in D&D before I saw this movie, and I'm still not interested at all after seeing it.

Invitation to a Murder

The mystery is ok, trying for something in the style of Agatha Christie. Not groundbreaking, but not really bad. But the whole movie feels cheap, like something made just for TV or straight to DVD (which this maybe is, not sure). The acting also just felt off most of the time.

Scream VI

I'm shocked. Another good horror (after watching Evil Dead Rise recently). Much better than the last one, which was really predictable. More blood and more action, but works quite well. It still has some of the stupid behaviors that are typical for this type of movie, and who knew that being stabbed equals a paper cut. But with a bit of suspension of disbelief, it works.

Also big thumbs up to Cortney Cox for not following the Botox trend of other older actresses, and still looking like a person, not a plastic mannequin.

Ghosted

A generic filler for a streaming service. It follows the same formula as many others mostly on Netflix. You have one or more know actors to get people interested, a bad generic story, an overly long runtime with a lot of filler, pointless cameos, a few bad jokes, and few action scenes. That's about it. Not the worst thing I ever saw, but forgettable.

There were a few moments I liked, but the overall movie just did not work. Especially from the casting. There is no chemistry here, and it's just not believable. Maybe if they did not cast a guy that has muscle definition without even flexing to play a weak guy and a girl that looks like she is still in high school to play a strong super spy. At least most fights were with guns.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

Compared to Knives out, this was much better. Quite a decent consistent mystery and it being restricted to a few characters was a good choice. And they even got the actors for the full movie this time. But I feel like they feared they can't keep the attention of the viewer, so they filled the movies with so much pointless stupid stuff, references, and cameos, that they completely destroyed what it could be. Remove that, give the detective a bit more seriousness, and this could have been a classic. But not like this.

Kisaragi Station

With this one, the first half is just the setup. And with the obvious lack of budget for the special effects and horrible post-processing in the first-person shots, it is quite hard to get through. But once you get through that, it gets much better, and I really enjoyed the whole Groundhog day aspect of the story and the ending. If you go to it expecting a low-budget horror/mystery you will not be disappointed.

Dosukoi! Love

I'm probably not the target audience here, but it was not bad. Quite a few funny moments. The actress playing Ayane was just funny and likable and pulled the whole movie. Everybody else was quite forgettable. But on the whole, it was entertaining enough. I partially expected that in the end, they will show that this was all just a dream and she was still in the coma. That would make a lot of sense, as she magically got all she wanted. But that would not make this a comedy anymore.

Knock at the Cabin

Would make for a decent Twilight zone episode if it was cut to half the length. I really liked that they just quickly got to the point, but then they completely killed the pace but pointless flashbacks that did not add to the story at all. Also, no real surprise at the end . Not bad, but nothing really special here.

Re/Member

I really, really, like time loop stories. Seeing how the characters try to solve the same situation over and over is what makes them great. But this one is a time loop story just in the description. It has minimal effect on the overall story, and you see something repeating only once. It's just there so they can kill off the characters while still having a happy end.. Some of the deaths were fine and you can say the story was somewhat original, but that's about it here. It was not even scray :/

The Hound of the Baskervilles: Sherlock the Movie

I'm a bit conflicted about this one. The beginning felt really rushed as if they were in a hurry to finish the movie. The scenes just needed more space to develop some of the characters. Some strange behaviors and not enough Sherlock "deducing" stuff also did not help. But then around the midpoint, the story kicks in and it gets so much better. Not sure how much the story is based on the book, as it's a really long time since I read it, but I enjoyed this much more as a mystery movie, than as a Sherlock movie.

The Labyrinth

Did I miss something? Is this a second part of some other movie? So many things come out of nowhere, without any introduction or explanation. Makes an otherwise simple story quite confusing to follow.

The Killer

A decent action movie, that is quite light on the story. Nothing new or unexpected here, but still entertaining for its runtime.

Project Wolf Hunting

If you don't like blood, really don't watch this. It's a literal blood bath. But overall not bad. Some nice action, fights, and ok characters. I like how the story would change part way through and would keep you guessing where it is going, and who is actually the main bad guy. Also, the absence of a plot armor was a surprise. . Would be better if they would have fewer cuts and not as many totally stupid characters, but it was not that bad.

Ghost Mansion

A decent horror anthology movie. Maybe too many jumps scares, but overall the stories were quite interesting. I especially liked the second one.

Usogui

Technically not bad, but quite uninspired. There are much better movies and shows with a "death game". Especially the games here are very simple and bland.

Inuyashiki

A good adaptation, and definitely better than most superhero movies that came out in the last years.

John Wick: Chapter 2

Good action, even though some of the fights dragged on a bit. But the story overall was just dull. I lost interest around the half-point.

The Legacy of Dr. Death: Black File

A decent crime drama. Enjoyable, but not really memorable. There are many that are similar, from whose it does not stand out in any way. Also, they changed the character of "Doctor Death" part way into the story. Like they had an ending in mind before writing the rest of the plot. Made for a strange tonal shift

Genius Detective Mitarai: Abstruse Case File

Interesting mystery, with quite a good ending, but with few actors not fitting their roles at all. Still entertaining enough.

Masquerade Night

Great movie, although I slightly prefer the first one, Masquerade Hotel. Takuya and Masami work great again together, the mystery is captivating and the style of Keigo Higashino, combining everything into a rewarding resolution, is here. I just miss the building of a relationship and trust between the main characters that was there in the first movie. Here they just jumped back into it, like there was no time between the stories at all.

One Missed Call

It's entertaining enough, though not that scary. Especially the second act is more of a comedy. But one thing they nailed perfectly. The ringtone. Simple, but creepy.

Manhunt

Some nice scenes, some good actors. The story is mostly straightforward, and I lost all interest towards the end. Not really bad, but generic. I also did not see the reason for switching languages all the time, as all characters clearly can speak Japanese.

Známi neznámi

6th or 7th version I have seen. It's ok, but should have added a bit of local flair, like some other versions. Still, the German is my favorite, followed by the original.

Angel's Egg

Intriguing with nice animation and art, but too abstract without any real information for the viewer.

True Lies

This movie is pure entertainment. It's fun, the action is good, the pacing is good, the actors are good, and all is as it should be.

Love on Repeat

I do like time loop movies, but not even that will save this one. Writing is just bad here, with shallow characters and a very predictable story.
